When I asked to meet him at the police station after he did unauthorized work on my laptop he ignored my request and dropped it off to a random person walking outside my house. I contacted this company to get a quote around 7:00am on Friday. Everything seemed very smooth and easy as far as their responses by text. However, my questions at one point weren't being answered such as what type of payment they receive. Also, I let them know when I will be home in order to meet them with my laptop. After several hours, I didn't hear back from them. Eventually, I called and left a message. Someone contacted me over an hour later by text around 6:50pm, to tell me that someone will be at my home in about two hours. Then around 9 PM, I received a text stating that they will be here around 9:45 PM. By that time, I did not feel comfortable. So, I canceled it. First of all, there is no way that I would meet someone at almost 10 PM at night to take my laptop, much less meet someone I've never known or met. Even just the mention of "they "will be at my home that late at night, made me incredibly uncomfortable . I would be a fool to allow myself to be that vulnerable. I don't know if they have a second job or what, but you don't keep people waiting that long to do business. I just found this very unprofessional. My computer was running out of storage, but currently, I am unable to purchase a new computer, so I purchased additional storage to add to my existing storage. I installed everything, but all I got after rebooting was the BIOS screen :-( I knew there was an issue, so I needed help, and I needed it fast. I am so glad I found Steven, he was super responsive, listened to my issue, and offered to pick up my laptop that night. I handed him the laptop, the 'old' storage, and my charger, and off he went. WARNING: If you purchase a laptop screen replacement from Steven, it is only covered by a 3 month warranty. He uses cheap and faulty screens and then expects you to replace your screen in 5-6 months. He is a scam artist. Initially, Steven reached out to me when I asked for quotes on Yelp for my cracked screen. He was fast and polite in his reply and quoted me a fair amount. I drove all the way to his shop on 7212 1/2 S Broadway Los Angeles, CA 90003. Which was quite the drive, but he seemed trustworthy enough. The repair was done quickly and he even dropped the laptop off at my residence when it was repaired. So far, it was an excellent experience and I was very pleased with his professionalism. He assured me that he installed a high quality screen in my computer. However, now 5 months after the repair, the bottom of my screen has what are called "stage lights", caused by a faulty cable attached to the screen. After consulting with other repairmen, they confirmed it was due to cheap wiring and a cheap screen. They also said it should have been covered by at least a 6 month warranty. I texted Steven today with my screen problem. He first offered to replace my screen with a new screen for $289 (5 months later). I then explained that it should be covered under warranty. He then attempted to gaslight me into thinking it was another issue, which I didn't fall for. He then simply stated that the screen only had a 90 day warranty. He refused to fix the problem. This review is way overdue, but I wanted to share my experience. My computer screen had a crack in it, and I called several places before I found Steven. Best Buy couldn't fix my screen, and the other places that I called either said no, or their fee was really high. Finally, Steven answered my message on Yelp, and he was able to help me. He gave me an estimate of cost and time to repair. He also came and picked up my computer. The estimate was cheaper than any other places that I had called. Steven told me that if a place told me that they could fix my computer in a couple of days they were probably lying because the computer screen for my particular computer needed to be ordered. I am so glad he gave me that information because one of the places that I called told they could have my computer fixed in two days. I'm glad that I did not go with that company because, of course. It only took a few days for Steven to fix my computer screen. He even brought it up to my job. That's going above and beyond, and it helped me out a lot timewise. I texted him LIKE HE ASKED ME TO, and had several questions to help me very figure out whether I wanted to get the part myself or let him handle (because I needed the service ASAP and he was talking up to 5 days just to order the part). I reached out to fix my computer screen after having an good experience buying it from this place in April. I was told I had a warranty on the computer at the time of purchase but after bringing this up, he said that this was considered "accidental damage" and would have to pay. Not being tech savvy, I explained that I hadn't stepped on or dropped my computer so I could not understand why I opened it one morning and half the screen was white. Added: the bottom line is he was hired to fix my iMac. Even after all the "extra" work done, it doesn't even turn on. I contacted Steven in July, 2020 to see if a 2009 iMac could be repaired. It did not turn on. After a test was ran, I was told the logicboard was corrupted, memory would be replaced, and the thermal paste was low so needed replacing. It took about a month to get it back. It immediately ran very hot doing minimal web searches. I was told that the new hard drive they installed is not compatible with the existing temperature cable so it will not measure the correct temperature. The explanation was the CPU is causing the fans to run. I asked him to look at again since the computer was hot to the touch when just checking email or surfing the web. I was told because of the age of the iMac, it will just run hot. Which was not the case when it was working as new. Thermal paste was added and did not pass the test so ceramic thermal paste was ordered and added. By this time, it was October. From Stevens texts: "It will get hot and fans will spin most of the time". "the cable that connects to the old hard drive is not connected to the new one. Why? Because that cable was for old drives so the sensor it's(sic) marking high because no connected to anything because the drive we installed is newer edition" So I am not sure why incompatible parts were installed that resulted in the fans running 100% of the time. I installed a third party monitor to keep track of the fans and temperature and yup, they will just run and run and run no matter how little work the iMac is doing. In February 2021, a solid state drive was installed in order to regulate the fans. It was around this time, 7 months later, it was "discovered" the temperature gauge (Steven called it the "measure) was failing. Why this was not diagnosed before, is a mystery. Also, he told me they found a lot of dust. Isn't this a basic check? Hmm, it's a 2009 computer. I am not sure why it's was so shocked there was dust. On March 13, the iMac was "ready". When I initially contacted Steven, I wanted to get the iMac up and running. Period. But apparently checking fans and dust to see if those are part of the problem are not standard operating procedure. I got it back and nothing had changed. It still ran hot and the fans were constantly on. "we fixed a problem that we were not hired for" Frustrated, I did not use the iMac for a few months. On May 7, it did not turn on at all. Steven suggested a new power supply. I bought one. Nothing. I asked for a refund. Nope. "We spent time and hours over our budget" "No, Refund at all. Never ever". I would have appreciated some honesty on day one, that this was an impossible task for him. If he could not fix it, why spend so much time doing things that resulted in absolutely nothing working. So after 10 months, I have a 27" paper weight and paid $284 to have an iMac in exactly the same non-working condition Steven was hired to fix. Maybe later model computers are more in his wheelhouse. The one star is for the 2015 MacBook he was able to upgrade the logicborad, storage and Ram. That cost $748. But it's working so hurray for that. ---------------------------- Edited after business reply: The initial request was to get the iMac to turn on and work. I was upsold to add the storage and SSD, being told it would make the computer work better and faster. If the computer does not work before adding all the upgrades, why would I bother upgrading? I wanted a computer to access the web and check emails. Period. At no point, was it able to do this with out the computer running very hot and the fans running fast and constantly. This is not normal even for an older model. You say you were not hired to replace fans. Correct. You were hired to try and get the computer operational. Do computers need fans to operate? I am not an engineer, but I believe so. Was I suppose to give you a checklist for each and every part to diagnose to fix my computer? That is why I hired a "professional". There was never an issue with the power supply. Not once. Not twice. When the computer would not turn on, you recommend I buy a new one. I did and the computer still would not turn on. If you could not fix it, honesty would have saved you and me a lot of time. And your prices are incorrect. This is what I paid: iMac: $35 diagnostic fee+ $249 labor and parts= $284 macbook: $449 Ram+$299 1TB SSD= $784 Edit2 Steven I posted the original message sent via Yelp. It clearly stated the issue is "computer not turning on". There was no power supply issue. Is this proof enough? I don't know why you say you we're hired because it was "running slow". It was not running at all. You keep saying that you gave me such a discount. Fantastic. If the computer was fixed. The computer does not even turn on now. Not even to the start up screen. Took my laptop here after what appeared to be a motherboard problem. After being told they would have the info for me by the end of that day, it ended up taking 3 days! They also kept referring to the motherboard as a logic board. A logic board is in a Mac and can be very expensive, the motherboard for my laptop cost around $300. After running the diagnostic they claimed it would cost over $400 to repair and that they where doing me a favor since it 'would' cost $1400. Just running a big ole scam here. read more

They picked up my laptop to repair water damage. Though they worked hard to repair it there are something I wish I knew ahead of time. The main being that I wouldn't be able to get my original laptop back. Initially they told me that they'd be giving me a standard laptop back when the one I sent for repair was a flex 3 in 1. They told me I'd need to pay a few hundred more to get a flex screen back. They ended up working it out and gave me a 3 in 1 completely different one I had. It has some upgrades to my old one but overall I prefer my old laptop and the functions it had. And it has some issues. I'm happy to recommend Steven for basic stuff. They replaced my keyboard and did a great job, putting a lot of extra time into it and doing a very thorough piece of work. On the other hand I did explain how I was about to leave the country for a while and we also discussed him putting in a new hard drive. When I arrived abroad it wasn't working properly. He gave me lots of hours to try and get it fixed, but it wasn't fixed. I had to keep going to the next door and finally they just wanted his work. Steven then refused to give me a refund. I feel like I've wasted a lot of time and also $180. It was worth paying the initial $200 for the keyboard replacement but in retrospect I regret hiring him for the computer upgrade. I needed help with a complex problem involving the BIOS chip on a laptop I had purchased from Offer-Up that was priced dirt cheap and the catch was it had a locked "Power-On password." I fried my motherboard trying to desolder the chip so I could reflash it, which is the only way around the issue. It had been 6 months since I purchased the laptop and I had explored various avenues but none of them led anywhere. I finally gave in and decided to purchase a new motherboard but it just so happened my model's motherboard wasn't on sale ANYWHERE. It was either back-ordered or simply out of stock. I began to feel I had purchased a curse. My absolute last resort was to hire a technician. I had been turned down by several technicians that I found on a Google search. Then I submitted a request on here. I got about 6 responses, the first response was from Steven. Right away, he stood out from the bunch. He seemed eager to help and didn't express even a hint of hesitation or negativity about my laptop problems. Apart from that, I got a general good vibe from him. He was trustworthy. I decided to go for the $35 diagnostic. He offered to pick it up, which was convenient and he was on time. A few days later, I became curious about the diagnostic so I contacted him. He responded right away with the results of the diagnostic, the work that would have to be done, the amount of time it would take, and the price estimate. Considering the extensive work that would be done, the price was reasonable @ $449. He even texted a short video that showed a sample of the work that would be performed. Although the price was reasonable, I decided to keep looking around. I went to ebay to do a search for that elusive motherboard one last time before checking out some of the other businesses that had responded to my request on here. To my shock, there it was on ebay...that impossible to find motherboard and it was on sale for $199. I purchased it without hesitation. I informed Steven of my decision and he said I could pick up my laptop the following Monday. Unfortunately, conflict arose over pick-up times and it did get quite heated (though we remained civil). I can go into detail about what happened but this review is long enough and it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. What matters is that we both began to dial it down and reestablish peace the moment we both realized it was getting out of hand. If you need a laptop repair, BRING IT HERE over any other third party repair place (honestly, even over Apple). I'm a USC student and when my laptop screen stopped working, it seemed like the end of the world when the genius bar had no appointments for a week but Steven was my HERO - incredibly accommodating to my schedule, transparent, responsive, and everything is working flawlessly now. Initially, I brought it to the Apple Doc store at the USC Village, and after barely taking a look at my computer, they told me it would cost $700 to replace my screen, and they were rather arrogant so I was hesitant to fork over nearly 1k with barely an explanation. Steven responded almost immediately to my inquiry at 7pm and was able to pick up my laptop from me a few hours later at 10pm (what?! service?!). The next day, they sent me a comprehensive diagnostic and explained that just replacing the screen wasn't enough, and that they would have to repair other parts of the computer to increase the longevity of it by at least 5 years. Contrary to what the other place I went to told me, repairing the screen only would only be a temporary solution. The cost was significantly lower than the other place, especially considering they were repairing much more than just the screen. They even delivered me a loaner laptop for me to use while they were fixing my computer! They ended up having to replace much more than what they initially expected to, and had spent $300 more than what I paid in just the parts but they didn't charge me anything extra!! When I received my laptop, it was sparkling clean and they had replaced the entire top half of the laptop -- it feels brand new! I can't recommend this place enough.
