So, now I am a year out from my service done here and my car still runs so...here we go…read more Less than a week after a major, very expensive repair at a different shop, my check engine light came on. Again. Not sure that my car would make it nearly 100 miles back to the problematic shop in question (it would not have), I called the warranty company which supposedly covered the repair to find a place in town to have it looked at and potentially fixed....again. UNFORTUNATELY....the warranty, which I was sold as coverage of the entire engine replacement done at Southside Auto in Lexington, Kentucky (which...you should avoid like the plague! WARNING do not go to Southside Auto in Lex...) didn't actually cover, you know, ENGINES. But they were able to recommend some local shops which I could take my car to. The first one I went to simply cleared the code which caused the engine light to come on....not looking at anything or doing any work. So, less than a day later, when the light came back on...I went to the second shop on the list: Bemudo. Bemudo is a little tricky to find. But, the service provided is worth the finding. A very small operation but, in my experience, dedicated to accurate and honest work and good customer service. I told Uche the whole story so far up to the point of my getting to him. And he was mad on my behalf. Then, after checking out my car, he was even more mad on my behalf and very apologetic about finding out that my car was STILL leaking oil. We discussed our options, his first recommendation was to bring the car back to the original repair shop and make them fix it...but in all honesty, safely getting the car towed back to the other city would probably have cost at least half as much as the coming repair, with no guarantee that the other shop would admit fault and fix it. So we decided to move forward with the repair at Bemudo, and with documentation from Uche, I would try and get some kind of compensation from the other shop. The repair didn't go quickly, but it was also days before Christmas and I was heading out of town for 8 days, so there wasn't a terrible rush. The folks are Bemudo were in reliably constant contact with me about what needed to be done and what it would cost, as well as giving me the information I needed to argue my situation with the other shop. So it has been a little over a year since it all went diggity-down and my car has remained running. The work gets done and it apparently seems to get done well. Uche and any other staff at Bemudo gave me the impression that they cared about me and my situation. I don't want to have to go back to them....but if something were to happen to my automobile, Bemudo would be my first choice of repair shops.

And I live in the neighborhood. Hate to have to go somewhere else that is inconvenient but can't stand the treatment from this shop any longer. And the drain it puts on my bank account with any small problem. Just bite the bullet and take your car to the dealer. At least it will get fixed correctly.

When I picked up the vehicle, my total came to $1,806.92 -- about $500 more than the original quote. I was never contacted to approve any additional repairs or charges. After reviewing the invoice, I noticed I was charged for a part that was never installed. It took five days of contacting the owner to get $135 refunded for that item. I also noticed I was billed $300 for a part that costs around $145 at Advance Auto Parts. When I asked for clarification about the additional $500 beyond the original quote, I was told to speak with the shop manager. The manager is the one who authorized the charges in question, and I never received a clear explanation. The repair involved a timing chain and camshaft gear -- a common issue on this vehicle. While the car is now running properly, the lack of communication, additional unapproved charges, and billing for a part that wasn't installed made this a frustrating experience. I don't mind paying for quality work. I do mind being charged more than agreed without authorization and having to chase down a refund for something that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Left with a quote that read like they were prepping my car for a space launch -- and I was footing the bill for the rocket fuel, the launchpad, and the emotional labor. They wanted to charge $137 to change a cabin air filter -- which, for context, is a job so easy you could teach a possum to do it with a YouTube video and half a chicken nugget. Spark plugs? $44 each. You'd think they were hand-sculpted from meteorite and blessed by a monk. And the alignment was nearly $300, which is double what any reputable shop charges unless the tech is using golden lasers and whispering affirmations into the steering rack. When I asked if I could provide my own HKS plugs (pre-gapped and ready), I got a hesitant maybe -- because God forbid a customer bring their own parts. Wouldn't want to interrupt the sacred ceremony of upselling with something practical. To be fair: they did complete the oil change. For that, I am grateful, if not also slightly concerned I'll find a "convenience fee" added to my next paycheck. TL;DR: Come here if you enjoy being charged for the ambiance. Otherwise, shop around. There are better places that won't treat your wallet like a suggestion box.

They looked over my car first thing and gave me a call to discuss their recommendations. They started with the easiest and least expensive option to troubleshoot my problem, and did not try to sell me on thousands of dollars of things that might be the issue up front. It turns out, thankfully, the easiest solution worked, and I was able to pick up my car the same day. Few places, in my experience, provide this kind of conscientious service any more in the automotive industry. I am really grateful to have found them.

Since Steve sold the business a year or more ago, I was a little apprehensive to say the least because the service had been exceptional. Steve assured me I would get the same service from Nate, the new owner. There's been a huge turnover in the last year due to retirements, health issues etc. However, I still take my vehicles there because the service hasn't changed. Just as promised. The main replacement personnel are just as good or better. Honestly, integrity found there. They warrant their work! The two negative 1 Star reviews should be ignored. There must have been some miscommunication going on there in both those cases.

We had AC issues with water in the floorboards. We were initially told it would be a quick repair and they would only need it a day or so. They called and told use it was a seal and that it would cost between $500-750 to repair. Three days later they still haven't repaired the car and now say there might be other issues with the AC. I told them to put it back together and do not repair it and we wanted the car back. They were angry but I felt something was not right about the entire thing. We searched for months afterwards and came across Smith's Imported Car Service. Arranged a day to drop it off. Four hours after dropping it off they call and tell us it's ready and it will be $80 which included them replacing the battery in the key fob! Don't get ripped of or treated badly.....simply go to Smith's Imported Car Service and save yourself time and money!!!!!! We will be back there for all our service needs!

Dropped my car off with Rod and then remembered two hours later that I needed my windshield washer fluid reservoir looked at for a hole or crack. The mechanic there looked at both issues and fixed them within a day for a very reasonable price I will absolutely be returning to Rods for future car repair needs..
