A different, trusted mechanic knew that my car needed only a small segment of the exhaust replaced, not the entire exhaust system. This should take, at most, 2 hours of labor + tubing. As the original mechanic did not have the specific tools needed to do this work, I looked into Byron's Auto as an alternative. I called Byron's Auto and clearly explained the situation, and they assured me that they were capable of doing this type of work. They told me to drop the car off for an 8:30am appointment later in the week. Many hours go by after dropping off the car without even so much as an initial quote. Again, this was surprising because I was NOT a walk-in, and the entire job should have taken less than 2 hours. After contacting them myself to check on the car - not the customer's responsibility - Byron's Auto tried to scam me into replacing the entire exhaust system! After again explaining to them that I knew with certainty that this was not necessary, Byron's Auto finally admits that actually they just do not have the tools to do the minor work needed. And so, rather than tell me that upfront, they were going to charge me to replace an entire exhaust system which was entirely unnecessary. Byron's did ultimately come clean about this deception and recommended a shop that has the specific tool needed to do this minor work. Which makes you wonder - why did they not tell me upfront that they could not do this work when I first made the appointment? Because they were hoping to rip off a young student in the midst of a modern-day plague COVID-19. All of this could have been overlooked, but the final straw was when it came time to pick up my vehicle. I am not accustomed to having my beautiful Lexus mishandled. I found it parked in a literal ditch on the "alley" side of their building a few yards from a busy main road. My Lexus was left with the windows wide open, doors unlocked, and keys in plain sight on the front seat. No respect for the vehicle, owner, or personal property within. I will not return to Byron's Auto under any circumstance and would recommend that you also find a different place to service your vehicle. read more

my wife got into an accident and it was brought to moodys collision. After moodys replaced the front end parts they sent it to Byron's for them to do the alignment. When I got the vehicle back the steering wheel was cocked at a 45 degree angle. Moodys and Byron's both knew this and refused to fix it. Byron's tried telling me that the steering rack which had just been replaced at a good garage was not installed properly (which was a lie). The knuckle had to replaced and they didn't want to do it Eventually it got replaced and shocking the wheel was fine after the alignment. They also secured the black cover underneath to the bumper and it broke. read more

I had originally took my car to jiffy lube to get an inspection, to which they told me I needed new brakes. I then took my car to Byron's Auto for a second opinion, thinking the first place may have been trying to scam me. Bryon's said NOTHING about my brakes, but said that I needed 4 new ball-joints. This was going to cost about double then what just brakes would cost. This was concerning because I now had two different opinions on my car. I then took my car into Massachusetts to a long time friend/mechanic who agreed with jiffy lube (saying that I actually needed new brakes) and that my ball joints were basically like new. I am a young female who doesn't know much about cars. I think this is apparent and Byron's was trying to take advantage of that in order to scam me out of more money. What was also very concerning is that they didn't even mention my brakes, which could actually be a danger! Long story short - do NOT take your car here, they will try to scam you! read more

This shop used to be great. Now I can never get anyone on the phone or even a call back. I am kind of aware there was a change of ownership and its very clear that change was not for the better. The woman on the phone seems to have an attitude like it's a bother to deal with customers. Also the new schedule is kind of ridiculous. As a business owner, I would never just close on Fridays or completely shut down an hour per day. This shop wont last and that is a shame. It was a much better place to do business a year or so ago. I have never left a bad review for any business. I hope that gives you perspective on my frustration with Byron's. They are not honestly. Period. An honest business admits they don't have the tools or knowledge to fix your vehicle instead of stringing you along just for profit and putting your safety at risk. My car broke down in the middle of the road late May of this year (in Maine). I trusted the recommendations to take it to Byron's because they seemed like a trustworthy business. At the beginning they were accommodating and seemed kind. I told them exactly what happened (the car stopped twice on the road, had smoke/steam from the hood, etc) and basically implored them to check it thoroughly because I was moving states soon and needed it to be safe. They "checked" it, told me the water pump was leaking and an ignition coil was failing and needed replacement. I trusted them, paid in full and picked up my car. They reassured me multiple times it was safe to drive I broke down within days. I took it to them a 2nd time. This time they told me two more coils were failing and needed replacement. I asked them again to check it again for other issues. They reassured me multiple times that they had and it was the only issue. I paid again and picked up my car. It broke down AGAIN. By this time I was beyond frustrated, had spent close to a thousand dollars in repairs, and had less than a week before I had to move states. I took it to them a third time because nothing made sense. This time when they checked they said the problems were arising due to a plastic t connector that melted due to the heat. When I asked them why this hadn't been found from the beginning (since radiator problems are so common and the car had overheated when it first stopped) they told me it would have been "impossible" to see it and that "car diagnostics are not accurate". Any mechanic that utters that last statement and thinks hooking up a car to a computer and not checking manually as well is enough to diagnose what's wrong is either incompetent or thinks doing a mediocre job is fine as long as the customer is desperate enough. Recently the car broke down once again (in the middle of a packed New Jersey freeway) despite all their "fixing" and empty words. If they didn't know what was wrong with my car they should have been honest and said so from the beginning. If they thought the car was beyond salvation (which it isn't) then they should have said so from the beginning. Instead they refused to acknowledge their services were inadequate (they have yet to respond to my email), and had the audacity to gaslight me and say the multiple visits were my fault because I "didn't bring it in sooner". Just had a wonderful experience with Byron's. I live in MA and my 13 year old car failed it's state inspection due to a leaking exhaust. I was quoted over $3k by the shop that did the inspection, which seemed excessive. I didn't have the time to shop around for other estimates in MA as I was traveling to Maine for the Thanksgiving holiday. I found Byron's online and called them up. They were able to see me the next day and were able to fix the leak for a FRACTION of the cost of that original quote - and they did it while I waited. As long as I live in southern Maine, I won't take any of our cars anywhere else for probably any reason (and honestly would probably drive an hour to come here if I moved, since reputable and honest shops are so hard to find). Byron's has very fair pricing, is always able to get me in (and out) either the same day or the next day, has very friendly staff, does great work, and has a comfortable waiting area with a cool room for kids as well. I recommend Byron's to literally ANYONE for ANYTHING auto repair related at all. He'll give you a fair price for an estimate (and sometimes even come in under the estimate - who else can you say does that?). They do whatever they can to make and keep their customers happy.
