Took a crew of 5 to eat here the other day and I was embarrassed at the quality of the food and service after talking up this place to my friends. The Pork Gyro was dry and not very tasty. What the heck happened here people? That was not the worse of it though. Our server was inattentive which was quite annoying. Additionally, he waited until we were ready to pay to let us know that the credit card machine was down. I know this is a common thing among waiters who want their tip right away instead of waiting and he was lucky that (1) I had cash to cover the dinner and (2) I did not listen to my friends who suggested that I should not tip him. I left him an 18% tip instead of the customary 20-25%! I might have to find me another Gyro joint as this was not a memorable experience for me with guests to boot. read more

BANGIN!!!!!! I vouch for the beef kabob platter with fries, souvlaki chicken platter with rice, and falafel being SO GOOD. The first time I tried this place, I thought it was very good, this was three years ago and I have been coming back ever since. I knew one rack was chicken but forgot the other rack wasn't beef/lamb. I was reminded of it, this past Sunday. It's either from the Pork rack or the Chicken rack. They do serve lamb but it's as kebobs. BZ Grill is on the top of my list of tastiest gyros around. The reason I consider this place one of the best is because the whole gyro comes together very well. The rack is piled on with hundreds of slabs of meat to make that cylinder. It's not the beef/lamb cones. Each slab has it's edge sticking out, so the edges get toasted to make for crisp pieces of meat when cut into the gyro. All places do it like that but BZ just makes the toasted pieces better. Their gyro is kinda different, I'm not use to a pork gyro, I'm use to lamb/beef gyros. I never tried the chicken. But the pork is ridiculously good. Each piece is tender and some pieces come with a little fat to them making for that perfect moist and soft meat. The flavor is not over spiced, it has the perfect flavor, not null nor overwhelming. -The pita that wraps the gyro is also done well: soft and also toasted for a crispy thin piece of soft shell that holds it all together. And this is a well held together gyro; I hate gyros that have pieces falling out or not holding properly, what a mess, but not at BZ. -The tzatziki sauce holds the gyro well because it is thick and they put a good amount in the gyro. It is tangy and actually has that yogurt FLAVOR. Other places make it like they put a table spoon of milk in their gyros because the tzatziki sauce is like liquid and you can't even taste that which SHOULD compliment the meat. -The lettuce didn't bombard the gyro like other places that seem to throw in lettuce as filler, tomatoes sliced thin and just a bit of onion (not much at all) to add a little zing. Bring a breathe mint. --Gyros are $6.45 --Platters with pork or chicken, salad, fries and can of soda go for $10.00 (large portions) --My Blue Moon, Stella Artois and Pork gyro cost about $13.00 (Good price on the beers) --Other Greek specialties available also -The place like the gyros are small but they pack alot into the gyro and seating is aplenty. With wine on display and either a plastic or porcelain pig in the decor, seating is comfy. Tables for family or groups and the single/couples. Good lighting, clean with paintings and I recall seeing a flower somewhere, lol, makes for a good brunch, lunch or dinner for the family or just a big guy craving meat. Wow. I've been here a few times and today really impressed me. The food has always been extremely tasty, but today I received a mound of food rivaled only by Mt. Everest (see picture). Even with this abundance of meat, it was still delicious. My only regret with BZ Grill is not reviewing before. Today I had the chicken gyro (meat rotated on a stick, cut off and then browned on a grill). It was moist and mouth watering. My wife had the pork souvlaki (pork on a wooden skewer). I stole a piece and enjoyed it as well. The BZ sauce was a great accompaniment to the meat. I will continue to patronize BZ Grill whenever I'm in the area. read more

How have I never written a review for BZ Grill after so many years of grabbing lunch or dinner there? This place is the real deal. Excellent food! This is the closest you're gonna get to an authentic Greek gyro from Greece. The pork gyro is delicious. The Greek fries are banging. Their bacon chicken wrapped souvlakia great. I got my coworkers hooked on this place too. They love it! Service is great, can be a little slow at times because it can get insanely busy and the place isn't that big, but they try to be as accommodating as possible. I would have given this place 5 stars, but knocked a star off because the last couple of times I've been there they didn't fully cook the bacon on the bacon wrap skewers and the bacon was pretty fatty. So although still very tasty paired with their BZ grill sauce, I just couldn't stomach all that fat. read more

First off, I'm NOT Greek. I do not know how the real, original gyro is supposed to taste. But I do remember from Europe that gyro was NOT a slab of "something" with a ton of spices mixed in - as I usually find it in NYC. It would be a tower of slices of meat - and that's exactly what I found at BZ Grill. It's the real deal here. I'm guessing it's pork butt, perfectly (not over-) seasoned and with just enough fat to keep the meat moist while grilled. I ordered the sandwich which came as a rolled up pita with A LOT of meat, a couple of slices of tomato and onion and some white sauce in it (I don't think it was tzatziki as i didn't taste any garlic nor cucumber; not that I care - again, I don't even know if it should be tzatziki. Well it might be the best chicken gyro I've ever had this side of some doner kebabs in Munich. The chicken was just so well seasoned and so crispy. Most chicken gyro/shawarma you get doesn't really have any crispy bits and BZ's is like all crispy bits. Also, I super approve of how they put the tzaziki in between the pita and the chicken and not on top of the whole thing (or just on top on the unwrapped side like the worst offenders). I've driven past BZ Grill a million times and never thought twice about it. And then I viewed their menu on Seamless. Now, as a vegetarian, there's not a ton for me to choose from. That said, they had the right things for me. Their eggplant salad is perfect. It's a little on the oily side, but is great when paired with their feta dip. Their tzatziki is also super solid. Now...on to the falafel. I'm not a fried food goer, but man oh man, this was like Israeli quality falafel. Moist and crisp - and the perfect balance of both. I came here for a late night bite on a Tuesday after an event at the neighboring Astoria Manor. They were closing so the only available options were the pork shawarma sandwich or the pork shawarma platter. I opted for the platter. The meat was very crispy which I liked. Having pork shawarma was very different from chicken or lamb. I liked the unique experience; however, I personally prefer the texture and flavor of chicken or lamb to pork. The other ingredients were excellent and would have paired well with any meat. The sauce was delicious and veggies were abundant. Stopped in for a quick falafel and it was gooood! Fresh and hot plus they use the cushy kind of bread not pita or lavash. (I have no idea what the bread is called but it's my favorite. You wrap it around the falafel - don't put the falafel inside like pita.) I also tried the Greek beer (Pilsner) which was a good beer to pair with food. Best Greek Fries in NYC. I found this out when I ate at a burger place in Brooklyn, which served Greek fries..They were good, but they were not up to par with BZ Grill! The feta is melted on top of oregano coated perfection. So delightful!! When I first came here, I had the chicken wrapped in bacon. It was too dry! However, I discovered, that they serve excellent pork here with their dips. So delicious! It is a small place and it is very hard to park in the area, but if you're around, it is worth the visit. After many failed attempts from nearby Astorian Greek restaurants (a lot of which were surprisingly gyro-less on their menus), I have found the perfectly stuffed pita with the most delectable gyro meat. I've had their gyros delivered many times, and even ate in once. Although the service is slightly slow, the staff is extremely friendly. My friend and I drank a few beers and nibbled on the Greek fries, so we didn't mind the wait at all. Also, don't forget to try the platters! Once my boyfriend and I ordered the mix for two, and I don't think words can describe how delicious everything was (not to mention how huge the portion was). Yeah, you fellow Yelpers know your eats when you taste it. Man oh man, I had one of the finest prepared gyros of my life tonight! Shame on me, but I've been going to BZ Grill for a little over 2 years now, but I hadn't made it there since the beginning of this year, and what a reunion it was! It was like hooking up with an old flame and rekindling the magic you once had for one another! There's bound to be fireworks! They let me have it for the lack of recent visits by laying a super stuffed pork gyro on my plate to devour! What a heavenly treat it was! This place boasts of whipping up the best gyros in NYC and although I haven't combed all the great gyro spots that inhabit the city, these guys here can hang with the best! Put them in a gyro contest and they certainly would hold their own! Don't sleep on their chicken gyros either. But really, the pork ones take the cake by far! The homemade sausages are wonderful along with the Greek cheeseburger. If you are really hungry, get the mixed grill for 2 and sample all the wonderful meats this place creates. Great gyro spot! I got the chicken gyro and it was everything I thought it would be and then some. The chicken was fresh, the pita was fluffy, the sauce was not too heavy, it had the perfect amount of spices, and the tomatoes were fresh. The Greek fries were pretty good, I'm not a huge fan of the olive oil they used, since Italian Olive Oil is king, sorry not sorry! I also got the house white wine it was pretty good, I think it was a pinot, but not too sure. The restaurant is small so seating is limited and there is no parking lot and street parking is limited, so just plan for it. I recommend BZ if you're in the mood for a killer gyro! I've eaten at many of the Greek places in the area and this is so far from good, it's nasty. The chicken in the gyro tasted old, and spoiled, had a strong smell that it definitely shouldn't have had, and the Feta on the Greek fries tasted more like moth balls then feta. This is the neighborhood gyro joint and it does not disappoint for a good, quick meal. From what I understand and from what my bf tells me, the owners are two friends, one is Albanian (who grew up in Greece and speaks Greek) and the other is Greek. I know this because my lovely bf acts as my Albanian translator. Note that the gyro meat is pork although you can also order chicken. The gyro meat is very good and fresh but it is kinda greasy with bits of fat. But hey, the fat makes it tasty right? Their pita is nice and crispy as are their fries. I used To go there all the time with my family and friends , but today was the worst experience there, the guys had attitude , they kept talking talking to each other and to customers and took over 20 mins for fries alone for a child , imagine to take the order , not to mention people kept coming after us getting the food and leaving.
