I had an absolutely horrible experience with Route 66 Towing LLC in Pontiac. We called them Sunday…read moremorning after I accidentally locked my keys in my car at Walmart. We had no spare key or way home, so we paid $156 over the phone for a lockout service. When the employee arrived, he used an air wedge and long-reach tool to try to unlock the car. He was having difficulty getting it open and was pulling hard on the inside driver's door handle with the tool. While doing this, the soft rubber protector on the end of the tool flew off onto my driver's seat, and the exposed tool slapped back with heavy force into the upper driver's-side area of my windshield. We then noticed a large crack coming from the same area where the tool had hit. I immediately pointed it out to my boyfriend while the employee was still there. My windshield was completely intact before this service. I also have multiple timestamped photos, including pictures from about a week beforehand, clearly showing the windshield undamaged. We called Route 66 within about 30 to 45 minutes afterward and explained what happened. The owner immediately argued that it wasn't possible for the windshield to have been damaged that way. After speaking with her employee, she called us back and said he denied damaging it. She agreed to meet us at their shop the following morning. She was late, and when she arrived, the interaction became extremely unprofessional. She raised her voice, repeatedly talked over us, accused us of potentially lying, and kept insisting there was nothing we could prove because we didn't have a video showing the exact second the windshield cracked. My boyfriend repeatedly tried to explain that we understand accidents happen and that we weren't trying to get anything for free. We were perfectly willing to pay the $156 because they did unlock the car. We simply wanted the windshield returned to the condition it was in before their service. Her only proposed "compromise" was refunding the $156 lockout fee instead of addressing the windshield. During the conversation, she told us we must be mentally incapable of understanding her and even told my boyfriend that if one of her guys were there, they would beat him up. We eventually stopped arguing and asked for their insurance information so the insurance company could investigate. She initially wouldn't provide it and repeatedly told us our claim would be denied. She eventually gave us the name of an insurance agency and agent rather than the actual insurer. We later obtained the correct insurance information ourselves, and a claim is now open. As we were leaving, she even made an irrelevant comment about us "probably being liberals." The entire interaction was bizarre and incredibly unprofessional. Accidents happen. My biggest issue is how this was handled afterward. My windshield was intact beforehand, we noticed the damage during their service, and we simply wanted them to professionally address it and allow their insurance company to investigate. Instead, we were accused of lying, insulted, threatened, and had to push just to obtain insurance information. I have timestamped before-and-after photos and will be providing everything to their insurance company. Based on my experience, I would not use Route 66 Towing again and would not recommend them.

I was looking for an suv & one of them in my price range he had my test drive. I did, loved it & put $500 down to hold it until my husband could see it. After money was exchanged Kyle then mentioned that this vehicle was a "buy back" so lemon lawed. I came back with my husband to test drive the vehicle & we asked Kyle to send the title to our credit union to see if we could even get financing on that title. He said he would & our credit union said they would let us know as soon as they heard from hellers on the title. We had the vehicle 45 minutes waiting to hear something. We heard nothing so we went back & Kyle never sent the title. Said to us, "I'm not sure what they need to see it for". Uh, financing. We told Kyle that day they wouldn't finance the vehicle because it was a buy back & I asked about how our $500 would be given back, he said he would send it back right away. Fast forward a month later, the $500 hadn't hit our account yet. We showed up to hellers this morning & asked where the money was. He told us it was weird, NEVER looked to see if they had tried to send the money to us, took my card & had one of the managers put it back in our account. When we mentioned it had been a month, Kyle stated that they tried but it was a "bad card number." I NEVER once received a phone call or a text. He had my phone number. Had blown up my phone multiple times. This felt very intentional considering we didn't work with him. So moral of the story, Kyle is a slime ball & I wouldn't EVER recommend working with him.

It was listed as a great deal on CG and from the pictures it looked really nice. Pontiac is about a two hour trip one way from where we live but I contacted Ryan and from the get go we received unbelievable customer service. We drove down there on a Saturday and took it for a test drive and the car was impeccable. It was clean, Ryan provided the Carfax equivalent and gave us the background on the vehicle. We spent about 15 mins negotiating and agreed on a price out the door. We were there for a total of 35 mins that Saturday. We would have to come back the following weekend as we needed a week to get the finances in order. The following weekend we drove and did all the paperwork with Cathy and she gave us the run down on the vehicle and showed us how things worked. All in all, only another 35 mins. So 8 hours of round trip driving to the dealership and only 1 hour 10 mins at the dealership. Unbelievable!! It's usually the other way around. Fraher is a 3rd generation family owned dealership that provided us with the easiest car buying experience I have ever had in my 40 yrs of buying cars. I first met Vance when my truck decided to turn itself off and not start. Heller motors said they would tow it in to take a look at it. Vance miller showed up, was able to pick me up, and My Truck/Me to Heller Motors to have it looked at. It started right up for Heller Motors. They worked on it for over two hours but couldn't figure out what the issue was. They didn't find the problem and didn't fix it. They said I would just have to "let them know." I'm thinking, great, this will be a nice surprise for me to look forward to. Well today the big surprise happened. I was about a mile and a half north of Towanda heading back to Pontiac from Bloomington. Finding myself dead on the side of the freeway Vance was the first person that came to mind. I called and without hesitation Vance headed my way to rescue me from the sweatbox that my truck was becoming sitting out in that sun. Vance not only picked me and my truck up to drop off at Sam Lemon Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram in Bloomington but he took me to Enterprise rent a car up the road. They had nothing without reservation so he took me to the airport to check out Hertz, Avis, and National. No reservation, no cars. Vance then drove me back to Pontiac and dropped me off at my motel. You see, I am from out of town and that makes issues like this even harder because I am unfamiliar with the surroundings. Honestly, I wish I would have never met Vance because that would mean that my truck was in Tip-Top running order. However, I am glad that I met Vance because he was someone that not only picked me up and took my truck to where it needed to be but he was a local that I could bounce ideas off of and someone that could provide suggestions. As far as I'm concerned he went above and beyond the duties of a tow truck driver. In the end he didn't feel the need to stick it to me when it came to the bill. I hope that when somebody is in the need of a tow truck driver they go to Yelp to find their answer. Look no farther than Bernie's Towing and cross your fingers that Vance Miller is the person that picks you up.
