Outstanding experience with Crazy Charlie and the crew. Brought my car initially to the dealership for an oil change and they said I had a leaking head gasket and i needed a $5k engine reseal. Decided that sounded a bit off for a Subaru Forester with 5 years and only 66k miles on it, and no evidence to me that I'd ever had a leak, so I brought it to Charlie. He did a really thorough diagnostic workup, found it was a PCV valve, and replaced just that, saving me thousands. They're also kind, personable, communicative, and realistic about when they can get work done and they then meet those promises. Going to C&C is a hike for me but I won't take my car anywhere else for any real work I need in the future. C&C is the best! read more

I got my car towed over to C and C based on good reviews and recommendations. I spoke with Carol and then Mary over the phone and they said they would take a look. I mentioned that I thought it was probably an engine misfire, which I had spoken to several friends about and who agreed. Everything sounded great at that point. Fast forward to six hours later, and I get a call that my car is ready and a bill for about $657. They never called and got my approval to do any work on my car. What did C and C do? They offered to let me have a "payment plan". No discount, no compromise. They were charging me the highest possible price for the parts (you can get a complete kit for $65 online) and $300 of "diagnostic and labor" for a problem that takes about 10 minutes to figure out and about 30 minutes to replace. So they put my old parts back on and then, after Mary assuring me they "aren't that kind of people" who would charge me for the lack of service, charged me $120 to get my car back. So I'm out $120, but at least it wasn't $657. Have a nice day and take your business elsewhere. read more

I brought my vehicle in for an oil change. I had purposed earlier that day to get a state inspection at the same time. By the time I got my vehicle in for oil change I had forgotten to ask for the inspection, but as I was waiting, the mechanic looked at my registration and asked me if I wanted him to do an inspection too. Crazy Charlie is totally recommended! I have a old 2002 Focus and I needed to fix several things to be able to commute from Durham to Greensboro every weekday for 3 months. 1. He fixed everything for almost half price AAA wanted me to pay. 2. He was very attentive with me during the whole process. Very handsome and you can see he taking care of his business and customers with all responsibility and proud. You can tell when someone loves what he does 3. He was comprehensive when I had to ask 3 big favors, even not knowing me: first, to hold the payment for almost 20 days. Second: to leave my car parked there for 20 days and, finally, to negotiate the dates of payment. Seriously, I got my car yesterday and couldn't believe the results. I'm a young female and I felt they took advantage of that. I brought my vehicle in and they sent back a long list of things that needed to be fixed with an estimate way over my budget as a college student, it was multiple months rent!! I consulted other technicians and reliable friends and they said the cost should be 1/2 or 1/3 the quota they gave me. I declined both jobs and said I would pick up the car. They then proceeded to tell me I would have to get it towed off the lot because they couldn't or wouldn't put it back together. They next offered to knock off 10% of the total because they supposed that wasn't necessary. I had to call my father to bother them with technicalities and legalities just to get my car back in one piece. When I went to pick it up the lady at the front desk dismissively referred to my vehicle as "that thing" So disappointed to be treated this way as these are my first few years as starting to be independent. I have taken my car here several times and am very pleased with their service. You may be able to find a mechanic that will do whatever work you need a little cheaper but as far as I have come to see when it comes to your mechanic you generally get what you pay for. As far as mechanics go Charlie and his team are some of, if not, the best in the area. I have always found his prices fair and his work outstanding. I have a custom F-150 1996 pickup I do my best to keep in great running shape. My A/C unit was giving me a headache with summer coming I had to get it fixed! I moved to Durham with a few concerns as to finding the right mechanic. Charlie was right by my office and after reading reviews I thought I would give him a try. Folks he is without a doubt the best and most HONEST mechanic I have EVER dealt with. He will explain the problem to you and give you options that will FIT YOUR BUDGET not fill his pockets. If the car is not worth the fix he will tell you (my car can vote it's so old) not do a bunch of repairs. He is there to make LIFE LONG customers and with me he as one. We were driving through Durham, NC on our way back to Massachusetts when the car started to make a funny noise. C & C was the nearest auto repair shop so I called, they said to come in, and I drove over. Charlie made the time to take a look right away, took the car for a drive and identified the problem - a piece of metal I had driven over was wedged into the tire. He refused to take any money, even though it took him over half an hour to deal with us. Everyone in his office was friendly and helpful. Just got my car back from them -- paid $200 less than I was quoted elsewhere. They are off the beaten path a bit but I was referred to them by a different auto shop that wasn't able to help me with my car's issue. Charlie and his team were creative in their solution and also happy to walk me through the details. Crazy Charlie is amazing!! There are few people in this world you can trust, Charlie is definitely one of them!! He is always helpful and will do everything he can to not just fix the problem but fix the cause of the problem. I had a car that needed a new Catalytic converter, while another shop wanted to get the cheapest one and throw it on, Charlie gave me the option of a cheaper one that will probably not last very long, or a better one that will last a lot longer, but he also knew that if I didn't change the sensors, it was just gonna destroy whatever he put on it. The other shop didn't care enough to find out why the converter was ruined. No matter the issue, Charlie is the man to see!!! read more
