Well...it's been quite a few years since my last review. I stand by my last review. Since Carlos worked on that Mercedes, he's worked on my 2008 Audi A4, 2009 Honda Odyssey, 2014 Audi Allroad and 2015 Porsche Macan. I'm very happy with the work. For warranty purposes, I had the Allroad in for service this week. Fletcher-Jones hourly rate of $289 is just over $100 more expensive than Carlos who I believe is at $180. So, don't let anyone tell you he's expensive. Aging cars need repairs. Even when you "take care of them". I can't assess any other rater's car problem. But I am confident that Carlos is an honest and very, very clever mechanic. It is a small shop. So, if you are looking for something quick because you need a car for work with immediate turnaround, it might not be your first choice. But, if you own an old Mercedes - my last visit in there he was working on a '56 190 and a '59 sedan - or if you're just someone who likes to keep them running, Carlos is someone you should talk to. read more

Stay away from this place!!! This auto repair place is the worst place I have ever taken any of my cars to. I ended up paying $350 and I had to get my car towed out of there, it didn't even get fixed. Carlos is a very dishonest and unethical individual, he originally started saying that it would cost me $4,000 to change batteries and some sensors and then when we told him we couldn't afford it, he said that it would only be $1,174. Every time we would talk to him he would give us a different price. He finally said it would be $500 just for labor to "check the car" and $259 for the battery, which the battery only cost $169 at Napa Auto Parts. His math never added up and he didn't even fix my car!! Car is still not working and he took the battery that he installed off my car because u refused to pay him the $500 for just "checking my car"!! He charges as much as my lawyer and he didn't even fix my car!! Please beware before you take your car here!! read more

Carlos is amazing!!! He is very detailed and patient with his customers. He explained and showed me what was wrong with my car. I have a Toyota highlander. I went to a few places to get my car fixed. They told me something was wrong with my muffler and I even got my muffler replaced . I spent a lot of money trying to get this problem resolved and found out it was something else. Carlos is honest and he cares lot about his work. I appreciate his attention to detail and for explaining things to me prior to doing the job! The service here is great. Carlos fixes everything right the first time for me. He's great about communicating throughout the service process and explaining what exactly the problem is and how it's affecting the car. He's always very accommodating when picking up and dropping off. I would also especially recommend him for electrical problems. I am very pleased with the work that was done on my 2012 Mercedes GLK 350. I've been driving it a lot and as the miles accumulated I noticed little things that appeared to be in need of adjustment that a simple tune-up couldn't fix. I was in over a year ago for some major work on my 1989 Miata ... worked with me to priortize what had to be done versus what could be postponed (based on my budget)! Put everything in writing, faxed to me for my approval. (I did ask him to do that.) I've been bringing my '68 MB 280SE and 93 MB 600 to Carlos for a few years now and his work has always been excellent. He knows how to diagnosis and he knows how to correct the problem. Is it inexpensive? Not always but better than the dealer. Is it done quickly? Depends on the car and the parts needed. Is it done right? Always. And that is the most important question that has to be asked. If you fit my profile-an owner of 2 older and one very high end model-then you must know maintenance and upkeep come with a premium called expense. Further, if you own older modelMercedes, you must maintain them. If you're looking for the cheap side of ownership, don't blame the mechanic. If you own a Mercedes and are on a budget-sell it. You'd be better off with a well researched and documented Toyota or Honda. Carlos is up front and doesn't try and up sell-like the dealers. Carlos will tell you what needs to be done now, what should be done soon and what could wait. He knows his cars and he knows how to make them run like they should. read more

I highly recommend this auto repair shop. I initially brought my car here for a general inspection. I found Carlos to be trustworthy and upfront about the service needed. While C&H may not be the cheapest auto service shop, I believe the costs are fair and I am confident that the work will be of high quality. Regarding his honesty, upon inspecting my car further, Carlos found that certain work did not need to be done -- he called me to say that the parts looked good and that he was not going to replace them and that the cost for the service would be lower. Honest? EXPENSIVE! It started out with a tic tic (lifters) noise in the old Mercedes engine. Took the car to C&H, The initial estimate was around $1200. After they took the car apart, they told me that is going be a lot more than that the original estimate. New estimate was around $5000 to fix the car. Ok - I still decided to proceed with the job at C&H. This estimate was with me ordering the parts myself and bringing it to the shop (~ $1800). At the end of the day, when I took the car home, I paid an additional $3000 on top of the second estimate ($5000) and the parts that I ordered ($3000). This is the last time I will step foot at C&H. I have had Carlos work on my Audi and a Mercedes at least 5 or 6 times. My overall assessment is that the shop is way too expensive and very old school. Messy paper work. If you go to this shop, you have to believe everything the shop tells you. The problem is - whatever they tell you is too expensive. Lessons learned: 1. Shop around 2. Research everything including prices for parts 3. Document everything and make sure you approve any additional work 4. If you decide to go, bring an additional check I will say this one last time the get off my soapbox. Overall, I would say C&H is three to four times more expensive than other other shops. read more

I have had a reoccuring issue with my car. After taking it to 3 mechanics over the course of the year, with no luck at finding the issue, Carlos was able to spot it immediately. My mother took her car to Carlos in Jan 2014 to fix an issue she had with her car not starting in the winter season. For some reason the car had a short and it would drain the battery. He put on a cut off switch in the car, changed battery, serpentine belt and & tension pulley. He charged her $922.00 which is very expensive for an elderly woman on a fixed income. We assumed the car was fixed. She brought the car home and the next day she prepared to go to work and the car did not start again. She called him about the issue he sent his mechanic to jump the car and I had to drive the car to the shop. He called her and said he needed to change a new module on the car and it would cost an additional $340 which is ridiculous!!! But she needed the car to go to work so she would try to drive it until he changed the part. He said he would try to find a used one so it would be a little less expensive and get back with her. After 3 days he never called her back. To this day he has never tried to call her. She proceeded to file a complaint with the Chicago BBB and in his response he has continuously been dishonest about everything. Now he is saying he will fix it all for free and that he tried calling her several times but was not able to reach her. Which is not true!!! He should have given her have the money back so she could take it to someone who knows how to fix this issue. Several people have indicated that him adding a cut off switch was not the answer as that was not the real issue. The ethical thing to do was to say " hey not sure why the car is still not working, let me return some of your money and I am sorry that I was unable to help you and I don't have the right equipment to find the problem. He is very old school, you cant understand his writing on any paperwork & he is very messy. People beware where you take your car, this is the reason people don't trust mechanics in Chicago. Two days later, he calls to tell me that he has installed a $70 part, and that it'll be $600. Didn't even call to get my authorization for the work. Go somewhere else. read more

He has serviced several of my Mercedes for 20 years and I am always confident that he will do the best job and will be honest and fair.
