Highly recommend E&J! My check engine light came on in my Audi. I called the dealer and a few other places, but when I called here, they said it was likely a simple fix based on the code we found. I had to work at the hospital overnight, so they were able to fit me in right away. Thankfully, it was the simple issue, and they took care of it in less than an hour. They noticed that I needed to get my emissions test, so they told me to drive it on the highway for a few days and then to bring it in to get rechecked so that I wouldn't fail the emissions test. They told me to come back and rerun the diagnostics (which they did for free!), and my car passed immediately! So grateful for the wonderful service. read more

If you are looking for an honest mechanic with lots of integrity then this is the place!!! I will be bringing my Audi here for repairs going forward. I called 2 days ago to get a quote on scoping my cars engine due to the fact I recently found out it is burning oil and wanted to see if it had caused any engine damage. I had taken it to the dealer and was quoted an outrageous price to diagnose the problem so I decided to start looking for an independent foreign car repair specialist to get their opinion. I should have asked the persons name that answered the phone but I want to say it was Luther because he just sounded like the owner. Anyway, I proceeded to explain the problem and I was not prepared for just how helpful he was over the phone giving me great advice on how to take care of the problem. Wow, I can't remember the last time I have spoken to a mechanic with such honesty and integrity, not trying to just make as much money as they can off the situation. I'm really grateful I found this place and they have earned my business going forward. No more dealer repairs for me. He even wished me a Happy Thanksgiving at the end of the call and I was left speechless. Getting your "baby" serviced for the first time, outside of a dealership can be scarey....bc who do you take her to?? The options are plentiful. That's why I am glad to have found this place. I went to 3 different places looking for someone to take a look at my car that was making a weird sound and it was troublesome, l went to a place where this Muslim guy seem to have an attitute and basically told me he did not had the time. (It was Friday) 2 other places also seem to not be interested in my small problem, so finally l called Lu. Upon arrival he knew who l was and was incredibly nice. I left the car and he did a through search for all things wrong. Found the problem, fix the problem and the car is running great $1100 later. I've had German cars for over 40 years and in four different states, and I have been blessed with some exceptional private shops to work on them...but these guys are the absolute best by a very large margin. From the first intro call: fair, professional, friendly, honest, and exceptional at their craft. They work hard to find the best option for you and actively seek to save you money and solve your problem. I came to them with multiple issues on my 2008/168k mile GL450...and they were amazing at fixing the problem with high value solutions. Quick too. Found the problem, called me to discuss, and fixed it...all within eight hours. I've had VWs, Audi's, BMWs, and Mercedes' from northern Indiana to St. Louis, Louisville, Evansville and Chicago--and nobody has been better than E&J. I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

E&J is great. Absolutely the best in the business. We first tried E&J after a string of dissapointments at Fletcher-Jones Mercedes, one of the worst in the business. These guys aren't bad guys but I would not bring my BMW back to these guys. They are ok for most repairs but I would not recommend these guys to do differential work on your BMW. My car was fine and they recommended I change the differential fluid so I did. Unfortunately they put in the wrong fluid and my car started making a horrible noise in the back. I took it back two more times then they finally swapped out the correct fluid (at my expense)and the noise went away. But when I got home I noticed my car started spotting on my driveway differential fluid. I gave up on going back to these guys and just took it to the dealer. I had to pay the dealer almost $900 to repair the leak and swap out new differential fluid. I hate to write bad reviews on anyone but had I known they would have messed up my differential I would never had set foot in this place. The other stuff like oil change and filters were fine (that is what I went in for) but I can not recommend these guys for differential repair. read more

Old fashion customer service with excellent technical capabilities! I brought in my Mercedes E550 to repair a broken front strut. This is not an easy part to find so my broken strut was shipped to Florida for repair. These guys kept my car for 3 days and didn't charge me any per diem. They called me within a few hours of receiving the repaired part letting me know I could pick up my car. They kept their word on the estimated price too. These guys are honest and excellent with high end luxury cars. Not to mention they are keen on constant communication with the customer. Great experience. I'd highly recommend! read more

So here I was in Chicago for work when the check engine light came on in my Jaguar, along with a lurching anytime the rpm's would get close to 3000. My heart seized with panic after the nice folks at Auto Zone informed me that there were several error codes on the computer. I knew that not only would I have to find a mechanic in Chicago, but that the repairs were probably going to drain my wallet. I went on to the trusty Yelp site to try and find a mechanic that had good reviews, since I've been taken to the cleaners before with my my 1996 Saturn (may it rest in peace). I called one location that was close to where my store is in Wicker Park, but alas, while they didn't service Jaguars, they did refer me to E&J and I couldn't be more grateful! I arrived at the shop around 1pm and spoke with Lou, I think. He patiently listened to what I was describing the problem to be and took a look at the error codes. He called one of the mechanics in to talk to me as well, and had them go on a ride with me so that I could try and replicate the issue I was having. We got back to the shop, and since I had a conference call shortly after, he directed me to several local places where I could sit and take the call. At 5pm they called me to let me know that they had fixed the problem and asked me where I was so they could send someone to pick me up. WOW! What they did was have one of the mechanics pick me up in my car so that I could drive it back to the shop and see if it was driving better, which it totally was! When we arrived back at the shop, they showed me what had happened, which turned out to be a hole in the intake hose. Not only did they replace the hose, but they cleaned out the intake. I really appreciate it when someone takes the time to show and explain to me what the issue is. Not only did they fix the issue, but they gave the car a nice bath so it was totally shiny when it was returned to me. They even called me the next day to make sure that the car was still running properly! Talk about excellent customer service! Personal attention, friendly staff, prompt service, and a clean car came to be less than $300. My wallet wasn't going to suffer! Being a female, I have a hard time trusting mechanics, but E & J fixed my Jag promptly, didn't find any other "issues", and were affordable. It's too bad I live in Milwaukee, or they would be my regular mechanics. But if you live in the Chicago area, do yourself a favor and make these guys your regular mechanics- you won't be sorry! read more

These guys are the best. They've worked on our last 5 cars and I hold cars longer and don't want cars under dealer warranty so Lou and the guys can service our vehicles. They go out of their way to make sure the customer is happy with their work, their prices are reasonable, and if they find something truly wrong, will call to give you a chance to see the issue before they take it apart. I have never found a more reliable and trustworthy car place in my life. I have a 2005 Jaguar S Type. I had been taking it to the dealer until the last two years, when I discovered E & J. My red light went off in the car. Being pro-active, I took to Howard Orloff who informed me it would cost $15,000.00 just to take the engine apart to find out the cause. I took it to E & J, who checked it out, and said they could find nothing wrong with the car. Two years later, the light never came on again, and I have had no problems with the car. Recently, I took to E & J for an oil change. The trunk was no longer able to open without using the key. They repaired it, and now I can open the trunk again without using the key. Howard Orloff told me I needed a new motor. My car runs like a brand new car. Mint condition. I would highly recommend them. Incredible!!! read more

Not only was the cost of his service competitive, but the level of customer service I received was top-notch. In addition to European cars, the E&J team also does a great job with other vehicles. I recently had some issues with a Jeep and had to drop it off after-hours, without notice. I left them a message and my problems were fixed by lunchtime the next day. I've been taking my 1974 VW Standard Beetle here since last year. I've taken her in twice for work. The last time I took in ole' Clementine she needed a new axel beam (completed rusted out), new brakes, new shocks, and some TLC. The guys at E&J are always very nice and they call when I can come in and see her up on the lift. They are very informative. The price for labor is high, but well worth their expertise. Mike worked on the original Wienermobile in Austria. The last time I brought her in for problems with the breaks, so Mike took me and my boyfriend for a test drive around the block to get a better idea. Lou is the guy who takes us into the shop to look at the car and explain what needs to be done vs. what parts basically can still hold up. He goes through all the charges. They detailed the car after all was said and done. I feel like a lot of their clients are wealthy, but that could just be my perception, so I always just make sure to remind them I'm not super rich and just need the car to run and be safe. All the mechanics and tech guys are super friendly, too. It's a great all around experience and I recommend E&J to anyone with a VW, Porsche, Saab, or other foreign car. read more

Came here to see if they could check the coolant levels on my VW Atlas after getting an error that it was too low. The dealership couldn't get me in for a few days and suggested not driving my car until then. E&J took a look right away and added enough coolant to get me through to my appointment. In short, E & J and Lou are now on my contact list for whenever I need a repair for my ML or BMW. Just returned with my Mercedes after E & J tossed on a trans pan which saved me approximately $600 bucks short of what my dealership wanted to charge me. I had plans to throw on these parts myself and when I discovered there would be a couple difficulties in attempting this as a DIY job I found E & J on Yelp and he not only agreed to do the job but, was able to do the job with my parts. These guys did everything right including airing up my tires and reminding me my registration sticker was to expire, what shop does that for their customers today. We have a very old BMW x5. With 14 years and less than 100k miles on it, it's still going - but not going as strongly as it used to. At least once every 6 months we bring it in to E&J for an issue. And every time, it leaves the place repaired and working well again. The team here is great. They're always polite, always friendly, have offered to come jump the car when it doesn't start, clean up the car while it's getting fixed, and generally do a great job. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I have a car that perhaps no one in their right mind should own as a daily driver: a 1994 Mercedes E320 Cabriolet. In fact, this is my second. And they've reliably hauled me from Chicago to Florida and Wisconsin and back several times, without a problem--often at speeds far exceeding the recommended limit (these old W124s seem to like 80 mph). And the reason for this is E&J, and Lou, Mike, JT and their great team. I'd say they treat my car like they'd treat their own, but it's actually better than that.
