I am really sad to update my review, because Mark is a very kind gentleman. However, based on the events of the last few weeks, I do feel that we were misled and that our new transmission was set up to fail. As you can see from my prior review, I replaced the CVT transmission in our Nissan about a year and a half ago. Imagine my surprise when my fiance called me from about an hour and a half away from home to tell me our car suddenly lost power. No prior symptoms, no issues... Just dead on the freeway. I immediately suspected that the transmission had failed, so I called Mark at C&M, who told me it "probably" was the transmission again but he couldnt see it for about a week. I asked him how that makes sense when we have only put 25,000 miles on the car but he didn't have an answer. Because we couldn't wait a week due to our work schedules, I towed the car to my trusted mechanic. They told us that they couldn't replace the transmission at their shop, but it was apparent that it did not have enough fluid in it and there was no leak. They said it was almost half empty of fluid and that the shop that installed it likely did not check the fluid levels. I then towed it to the dealership at the recommendation of the shop I went to, where they asked me why I didn't just get the transmission from them since it's the same cost with triple the warranty. I had no idea that the warranty is lessened when another shop installs the transmission, and I am frustrated that this information was withheld from us to make a sale. Ultimately, the Nissan mechanic was also confident that the transmission was installed without an adequate amount of fluid. We are devastated that the transmission from C&M, which ran us $5500, only lasted a quarter of the time they are expected to; ultimately, this has become a massive financial hardship for us. All of this to say that when I can trust a dealership more than a mechanic, that mechanic will no longer have my business. read more

Just dropped off a 1955 belair with Mark yesterday, and recieved a call to let me know that the leak it was having was just a dipstick issue and nothing else he could see. I have to say, he is a very honest guy and could have easily said it was much worse than it was. It's tough to find honest shops and reliable. My husbands transmission went out in his 2012 Nissan Frontier. Nissan wanted to charge approximately 6,300 for a rebuild transmission. Mark did it for a few thousand less. Highly recommend. I had been to C & M transmission about a year ago and the reason for this review a year later was because of the warranty on the rebuilt transmission was 12 months or 12,000 miles on my 2004 ford f-150 and wanted to post a review based on the quality of the repair. It is one thing to have a nice interaction with the business at first but the real test is time. Especially when it comes to your vehicle that you depend on a daily basis. As a woman I feel like every time I walk into a mechanic's shop I enter with a giant target on my forehead. I'll admit that I know how to fill the tank, check the air in the tires, read an oil stick... and that's about it. I feel like these guys see me coming and they start to plan their next family vacation. I presented Mark with my embarrassing impressions of the sounds that were coming from my car and like a Grease Wizard he was able to diagnose my problem. Where others had suggested these sounds were an indication of a ca-put transmission, Mark assured me it was an easy fix. Wait. Instead of bending me over and reaming me for a new or rebuilt transmission you report you can fix it? Honesty, at a garage? Is this new? He could have easily convinced me a new tranny was the only option and I would have whipped out a credit card and cried myself to sleep. He didn't do that. I went in on a Wed. and the shop was busy so Mark told me he could check out my car next week. The following Tuesday I called to confirm I was bringing my vehicle in for the check up. Mark told me he was already booked for the week and couldn't help me. He proceeded to say, he never told me to bring it in the following week when it was exactly what he said. He was not truthful! I owned a perfectly restored 1957 Ford Thunderbird that is the source of much enjoyment. I recently began to experience transmission slippage. I did my research and checked for reference and the name C & M Transmissions came up frequently. I contacted the owner/operator Mark Newland. When I met with Mark in person it only took a few minutes to conclude that I had arrived at the right place. Mark is an extremely knowable transmission specialist and it is obvious in conversing with him. He also is a person that I immediately felt comfortable with for his sense of values and ethics. I went into his garage thinking I would need a $4000.00 plus trans overhaul, but Mark subsequently identified an internal component failure that got me back on the road for less than 10% of the cost. Well. I don't know about these other reviewers on here and they seem to not be regulars on yelp with limited reviews!!!!!! So here goes. I took in my classic Buick had leaks. They fixed it well (to be determined). No leaks so far on garage floor!!!! During the process I got a call for a new overhaul of my transmission due to shavings noted. Quote I believe was over $2100.00 so I differed it till the baby blows. Let's see how long I can go. The car only has 55k on it transmission sounds and drives fine ! So trust is an issue! read more

Thanks Mark! I did my research before going to a trans shop and C & M was highly recommended. Got my Jeep up and running which was shifting hard and slipping pretty bad. Mark diagnosed a bad transmission pressure sensor and after the repair was made he got it running smooth again. My Jeep has 170k on it so I'm not under the illusion that this fixed it 100% but it gives me some time to save for a rebuild. Mark is a very affordable and a very competent technician that you can trust. Wanted to add one thing. I am a tech in a different field but I do troubleshooting and I know with electrical/mechanical issues there are a lot of things to consider especially when there hasn't been an outright failure. I may make a recommendation to have work done and the part may not fail immediately but it shows all the signs of an issue and it's just a matter of time. This is what Mark does so when he recommended a trans rebuild I know that I am on borrowed time and appreciate the forewarning and look at it as a heads up not a sales tactic. We purchased an older camper van. Not sure about the transmission. Our neighbor suggested C&M Transmission. Said they have been around a long time and they were honest. Mark said to give him an hour. Figured I would wait around. They checked out the transmission, the alternator, battery, etc. Mark said the transmission is fine and what I was experiencing was the cooling fan which was doing what it was supposed to do. He told me what to keep my eye on. There was no charge and I was out within 40 minutes. I know women are always concerned about being ripped off by automotive shops. These guys are honest! This is a mechanic you can trust. Mark is one of the most honest mechanics I have ever met. My jeep is a Frankenstein yet he treats it with such care and love. He actually sent my transfer case through the parts washer three times to make sure it was clean - before he did the transfer case rebuild. He also did a maintenance on my transmission. Every time I visit, he is personally driving each and every car to make sure that the work was done correctly. He spends the time to talk to you about what's going on, what he finds, and what he's doing. I've never seen a mechanic take such personal pride in his work. He's talented, honest, on time and VERY reasonable...he fixed the clunking noise coming out of our transmission that AAMCO probably would have charged us $1400 for, for only $45.00.
