I had a sausage and pepper pizza on Saturday that was basically an edible. I don't know what the flavor was but it was very strange. This is disappointing because CJ has been around forever and I've had their pizza before with no complaint. I know cook change but recipes never should. This was terrible. read more

Our waitress was great! The bathrooms are nice and clean. Unfortunately the food was unenjoyable for lack of better words. My chicken parm sandwich tasted like it was made with cheap frozen chicken patty's, sauce was okay. I didn't finished it and still got a bad stomach ache after. Wouldn't recommend the food. The food is excellent here! Such a good experience at this restaurant. The staff is friendly and they do not ignore you and they check on you throughout the meal. How well the staff works together- you can see it. We were there on a busy night and you'd never know it service wise or waiting wise. Price is as expected, but they still include things like bread and salad or soup. Incredible! Mostly, the flavor of the food was exceptional. The sauce is the best we've ever had. We stopped here for a quick dinner with the kiddos and was pleasantly surprised by the value and quality of the food we got. Our waitress was Kristine and she was nice and quick. We were seated right away and the restaurant is kid friendly with a doodle sheet and kids menu. We were served with bread and soft butter for the table shortly after seating. The kids menu came with a drink and ice cream and prices ranged between $4-8. We ordered Mac n cheese and speghetti and meatballs for the kids. The apple juice that came with the meal was a nice size cup, not those small kids cups. The dishes were also big enough to have leftovers. The Mac n cheese is ziti with a white cream sauce, not the Craft box Mac n cheese. My kid liked it. As for the speghetti and meatballs, the meatballs were the big size meatballs, so it was plenty for my daughter. For entrees, we ordered White clam sauce with fettuccine and calamari with spicy marinara sauce. They came with soup or salad. The food was decent, but nothing to rave about... 3 stars for the food, but overall experience and value earned this place another star. It was very quiet! I hate restaurants that blare music. This quiet ambience allowed us to hear the man at the table next to us talking in graphic detail about his ingrown toenail and upcoming treatment. If I were writing a review for this customer, I would suggest that he maybe discuss his medical issues in private at a later date, but I appreciate that the restaurant was quiet enough I could hear this. To be honest, I was too busy thinking about what the doctor was going to do to this man's toe to notice the food, but I am sure it was excellent. And the service was good too. I have ordered delivery many times when there was a driver which is never now a days! So tonight me and my husband went and sat down I ordered a caesar salad which had more cucumbers than anything else which I didn't expect nor do they belong in a Caesar salad! My meatball parm sub with fries was not good! There were at most less than a hand full of fries that smelled horrible like the fryer oil hadn't been changed in a long time, and the meatball sub had 2 meatballs total cut in half for the whole sub! Our waitress asked my husband if he wanted another iced tea and took his glass and we Never Saw Her Again even for the check. Some guy who was not dressed to be in a dining room was offering drink refills and we had to ask him for the check! Our waitress never came back after dropping the food off ever! Never asked if everything was ok never brought another iced tea and we paid the guy and left! My husband used a card and said don't I have to sign and the guy said no bye! For the over $70 we spent I came home hungry and angry that no one cared! It is a local place to me and have had nothing but good things till now I don't know what happened but our money will be spent elsewhere going forward! read more

My buddy and I walk weekly at a local state park then have lunch at CJ's. The food has really never been great but we enjoyed the waitresses who worked there. The last three times we were there the experience was horrible. The place is being run very poorly. The very last time we were there they had no waitress and the food was barely mediocre. Not recommended at all. We just went to Pete's Famous and had an outstanding lunch for comparable price. read more

My husband and I stopped at CJ's. To have some dinner, I ordered the baked ziti. And he had lasagna, we also had onion soup, the soup was very weak, and the ziti for me was that it was over cooked. The sauce was great the next time I go there I think I'll just get a Pizza. read more

Poorly run restaurant. My wife and I have been regular customers for over 8 years and are known by many of the servers. We go on quite times, usually on Thursday when they are open until 9pm, and there are 3 or 4 tables in use in the nice open room. Twice in a row, the servers tried to put us into the claustrophobic area near the kitchen next to a table of loud people with lights in our faces. After asking to sit in the big room (10ft away), we were treated as unwelcomed. My wife refuses to go back. Here's an idea!!! If restricting the service area on a slow night... put little teepee signs on the left 'this area closed' while having a row of tables along the windows on the right available???Recently I got a takeout 'thick and chewy crust' pizza with extra cheese as I've been getting for years, it was nether. Just a plain cheese pizza for $22. Never again... now checking out other area restaurants. read more

I honestly don't understand the low reviews here. I've been coming to Cj's since I was a kid myself and now I enjoy taking my own kids here. You don't get glitz, glam or fancy foods. What you do get is great food at a reasonable price in a non stuff atmosphere, cold beer and we've always had very personable servers! We came to CJ's for pizza based on the recommendation of our friend we were with. He told us they had some of the best pies (aka pizza) in town, and it did not disappoint. We picked up a large spicy buffalo chicken and a veggie lovers. The buffalo chicken had little morsels of spiced buffalo chicken sprinkled all throughout the pizza. It was the better between the two. The veggie pizza had broccoli, onions, tomato and green peppers. The sauce to cheese ratio was a little scant for my taste but it was sweet and yummy. The real winner was the crust of the pizza. It was crispy and withstood its texture throughout the night we nibbled on it. Overall, the pizza was $18 and there was ample parking in front of the place. Will definitely be returning to get a pie from CJ's. read more

We've been a few times now and we love it. Our food has always been great and the service is great as well. Keep in mind this is not a fast in and out place. I love it because when you order an appetizer you can enjoy it without having your meal brought out two minutes after the appetizer arrives. This reminds of going out to eat with my folks when I was younger. It's not a herd you in and herd you out kind of place. You can actually sit and enjoy your meal and the company your with. Unfortunately this dining experience did not meet any of my expectations. We had a reservation since we were a bigger group, but felt like they were not really prepared. The seating was a little awkward because one table was in a different angle so 6of us was kinda off from the rest of the table. The waitresses were super helpful and kind but they were the only positivity in the service. Some of my main issues: - The drinks came in big pitchers- I guess it is easier if more people orders the same but! after the refill I wasnt sure if it was diet or regular coke anymore. - Some food came earlier than others and I dont talk about appetizers and mains or different cooking times, pizzas with the same topping were 40minutes apart, so basically by the time half of the table were ready to go, the last 2 orders of pizza just came out of the kitchen. -My food was far far away from good, I had the shrimp basket with fries with a side of broccoli.I also ordered the bbq wings what was the star of the meal. The shrimps were tiny with a 1inch thick panko crust, the fries were crispy and basically the best on that plate. The wings were crunchy and delicious I would recommend that. My broccoli came after 50minutes with the steak orders and after I asked twice about it. Obviously there was no food to eat it with anymore so the side dish lost its purpose not to mention that it was only 2 broccoli florets. I tasted my husband choice what was the medium steak. After 45minutes he recieved an alive cow, still mooing.It was black and blue, really raw and underseasoned. They need a lot of improvement foodwise for sure but the cocktails are spot on! Don't order delivery! Had company and was told the food would be delivered between 45 minutes to an hour. We called after an hour and the woman who took the order told us that the food would be another 20 minutes, that the delivery had not left and they we would be called when it left. We decided to cancel the order and called right back. The supervisor got on the phone and was incredibly aggressive, said delivery had already been out for 20 minutes. This was in direct conflict with what the order taker told us 2 minutes previously. Then the supervisor hung up on us. We're disputing the charge. read more

What a dissappointment! Went there last night for take-out, to eat at the Rhinebeck Arts Center. The portobello mushroom with blue cheese crumble was about a 4 of 5, but was a small portion for the price. The caesar salad had fresh lettuce and lots of it but the dressing was definitely out of a bottle, and that salad had never been near an anchovy. Croutons were just ok. So a 2.5 of 5 on the salad. The "Margarita" pizza was nonsense! It was a regular pie with thick tart tomato paste, not the thin sweet sauce on a Margarita. It has a few tomotoes but they were chopped not sliced thin, and the mozzarella, well, it surely didn't appear or taste to be fresh. Worst was that all we tasted was ground black pepper, despite that there was quite a bit of fresh basil on it (again, chopped much, not the large pieces on a Margarita). So the pizza was a 2. The young woman at the register was very nice, but I'm amazed that people eat fairly poor pizza at an upscale pizzeria like this. A place like this should have great pizza and a really good caesar salad, really. Doubt that we'll be back. For the money spent, we could have and should have had better food. I think of the same amount spent at Curry House in Red Hook, with custom-prepared, exquisite dishes. Ditto for Village Pizza and many places we'll likely find soon within the area. They have good reviews on other sites, not so much on yelp. Yelp is the best site for the real scoop. read more

While staying at the Fernciff, I took a chance and ordered their boneless rib eye dinner, with pasta. OMG! It was so slamming, I ordered it three more times in a row. The steak was so juicy and tender. I ordered it medium and that's exactly what I got (Most places don't know how to cook a good piece of meat; you end up chewing on a shoe). The pasta with sauce and veggies were outstanding. Even the mini Italian bread loaf was nice and soft. If you appreciate eating a nice piece of beef, CJ's is your place. read more

CJ's is one of those truly tragic places that doesn't know what words mean. It's like they have a passing knowledge of food and how it's made, but only gathered from glimpsing cartoons and Internet memes. "Boneless wings" are not, under any circumstances, or in any reality, "chicken cutlets with sauce". Allow me to repeat, CJ's : a WING is not a CUTLET. And a cutlet is not any weird hunk of chicken you have lying around, either. Our full-size order had four "boneless wings" : all cutlets in weird, odd sizes. Nothing uniform. Nothing worth eating. The pizza gave me stomach cramps for 24 hours and had a truly paltry amount of toppings for the money we dropped on it... but the wing fiasco is unforgivable. I have a lot of disgusting ideas about what "CJ" stands for, but I'm polite and won't post those words here. read more

Cj's has lost this customer for good this time. I understand how things aren't perfect every time. I get it. This was however the last straw. I have had issues with CJ's in the past, and always give them the benefit of the doubt. However, I will no longer give them my money when clearly they really don't care what they send out to people. Last night I ordered a french dip sandwhich which was really good. I also ordered a tuna sandwich on rye bread for the next day as I am working 16 hours. Well I just opened my to go container to find a sandwich that was not cut in half. Okay not a HUGE deal, but it just looks bad/lazy. I then opened the sandwich to find a small smear of mayo on one side and what looks like someone just turned a can of tuna upside down in the middle of the bread and called it a day. Large chunks of dark meat tuna ( the menu CLEARLY states white meat only) . It didn't even look like they tried to break up the tuna with a fork or anything. I have never seen anything like this. I now am spending more money having to order food from somewhere else since I'm stuck at work. I don't eat dark meat tuna. Such a waste of money. Do better CJ's! I grew up in Buffalo and don't mess around when it comes to wings. Those breaded, fatty hunks of disappointment they serve around here are an affront to a sacred childhood institution. I get really worked up about wings. I realize I probably need hobbies other than writing about wings on Yelp, but I am who I am. We were at CJ's for a party recently. I had some fire wings, wiped my mouth on my napkin, and then wiped my nose with my napkin. Rookie mistake, but it sucked spending the night with fire nose. Also, if they knew back in Buffalo I had to wipe my nose after having fire wings I'd be laughed out clear to Nova Scotia. That's why I have to post my wing snob reviews under an alias.
