Historically, I've preferred traditional barbershops, but now I've discovered this place and made Aldo my barber. This place is amazing. Not only was I NOT judged for not looking like a pin up rockabilly chick with a full sleeve, or extremely uncomfortable in a room full of 20 year old girls with fake lashes, perfectly contoured make up, and hair extensions, but I was so comfortable, I was able to talk about 80's movies without feeling old, and my children's attitude problems. If you are a 30 and up kind of person who is usually on the go, knows what you want, and doesn't enjoy sticking out like a sore thumb in certain places, YOU HAVE FOUND YOUR SPOT! Dustin was fantastic. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. It was nice to connect with someone who gets it and down to earth. Plus he knew exactly what I wanted and made my hair look more fabulous then the picture I showed him. Talk about confidence boost! Also, I decided to get my nails done with a mani/pedi. The nail tech, Monique, was so nice, so comfortable to talk too, and so easy to relax with. Plus, she did a killer job! My nails look great! I got a gel polish, (which is still fresh and not chipped) the colors are beautiful and well matched with my skin tone, and her lotion smelled so good it was to die for. Prices are affordable. Great professional service. Appointments are on time. Clean, friendly, fun and comfortable environment. I plan on taking advantage of all the services they have to offer and I'll be happy to spread the word. If you can't enjoy at least some of the services, then at least go for a glass of wine and fabulous harbor view. Keep up the great work! read more

I've been coming to Clarissa at Cabelos for years and I won't let anyone else touch my hair! The salon itself is very open and inviting, it's very easy to feel relaxed there. Clarissa is hands down the best colorist I've ever met. I have very fine, thin hair and she always makes sure she gives me amazing color without damaging my hair. She also never overdoes my trims/cuts and always makes sure she know what I want or will be honest if she thinks it won't turn out right and always talks over what she's going to do. I'm new to the area & the salon I originally went to for a simple highlight & trim, didnt do a good job, so I came here nearly in tears begging them to fix it!! I first called here asking if they could put a small section of purple extensions in my hair, & I was told "yes- stop in tomorrow at 2:00 so we can take a look at your hair length & order in the extensions". The girl that took my call quoted me a price of $7-$10 max. I was also told they could have the extensions in & my appointment could be in 2 days max. The next day when I stopped in, I pulled up on my beach cruiser, I could see two employees at the front desk. They obviously noticed me- as I heard the female say to the male "Wow- take a look at this"!!!!! And they both began to laugh. When I walked into the salon, they both were giggling. And I laughed with them & said " I know- its pretty bad right"?!! Aldo politely smiled & said "Girl- What happened?!" I explained that Hot Choppers DESTROYED my hair & I called yesterday & was told to come in today at 2pm for someone to take a look at this disaster caused by Hot Choppers Salon. I spoke to Aldo at length & explained that I called yesterday & was told to come in at 2pm so somebody could take a look at the length of my hair, show me the color swatches, & order in my extensions that Hot Choppers never put in. We discussed the condition of my hair- & joked about how I saw him pointing out & laughing about how bad my hair looks! He chuckled & admitted that he saw me through the window & agreed with me that my hair was "really bright"! We both had a good laugh & then discussed in detail that I need the haircut & color fixed, that I could not go around scarring people with this disaster hair do!!! It had already been a week since Hot Choppers DESTROYED my hair (shame on them) but my hair was still really obnoxious! Aldo assured me he would fix my bad hair cut & do the best he could to soften the color. He then told me that the extensions would be in until next week. To my surprise, 2 days later, Aldo called to tell me my extensions came in & I immediately scheduled my appointment for the following day with Aldo. I admit I had an uncomfortable feeling about having him do my hair- especially after he told me he has only been in the business for 4 years!!! I was already nervous because of what the other salon did to my hair! At my appointment, he took away any fear or discomfort I had! In fact- he is years beyond his youth & is an amazing stylist!! I again explained that I needed him to fix my cut & color- The salon that did my hair last week absolutely ruined my hair- they cut off 5-6 inches, & didn't do anything I asked! I asked for full head of foils & they instead applied color "free-style", & never gave me a stylish cut, didn't wax my eye brows or put in the purple extensions! Aldo assured me that he would fix it. We went into a long discussion of what I hated about my hair, (& he agreed- Lol) especially that they already cut off 5-6 inches & I was way too bright blonde & brassy. Aldo worked his magic for nearly 2 hours.....& it was MAGICAL!!! He put in my extensions & then he fixed the bad cut Hot Choppers did by adding in random layers & texturing my hair- giving it volume & style! He didn't do anything to my color because Hot Choppers had already damaged it beyond repair- It was bleached and over processed! He gave me some tips and we are going to fix my disaster over time! The way it lays down and how to style your hair but I was wrong. I didnt really ask for a crazy haircut just a nice simple texture haircut for me to slick back and short on the sides blended to my top. I went to Cabelos yesterday for a haircut. It was Natalie who cut my hair. I told her I want something different .And when it's done I still have the same old style of haircut. It's not worth it for $45.00 for a haircut plus tip. Don't go to the place that is pricy and you can get it a simple cheap same hairstyle cut. Think first before you go. read more

My wife took my 12 year old son in to get a haircut after reading some good reviews here on yelp. My son wanted a particular hair style and had a picture of it. My wife showed the picture to the hairstylist and ask if he was capable of doing it and of course the stylist said yes. That's where the problem is. My sons hair looks nothing like what he wanted. If asked if you can do a certain hairstyle and you are unsure if you can do it, you should say so. My son now has one of worst haircuts I have ever seen. He went from having beautiful long hair to a hack job. My wife was very unhappy with the job, but did not want to make a big deal about it. The place looks nice and the people are friendly. I wish the experience would have gone better and I could have written a good review. I can't say nothing bad about the other stylist there, but Aldo was a disappointment. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he shouldn't be judged on just one cut, we all have bad days. Its a good thing hair grows back. read more

If you are looking to get the Brazilian wax done at Cabelos, beware, the woman who gives them does not know what she is doing and can be very "touchy." Unfortunately for me, I had the WORST EXPERIENCE while at Cabelos for my Brazilian Wax. I am never going there to get that done that's for sure. read more

I went in for a Brazilian wax with grace and it was one of the best experiences I've had. She made me feel very comfortable and her work area was very clean and well organized. Love my experience here! Lupe is fantastic. I showed her a picture of a cut and color I loved and she made it 10x better. She took as much of the photo as she could and tweaked it to make it perfect for my face and skin color. I have been in this salon a few times and I love the atmosphere. Very mellow and easy going. Had esthetician services and have not been disappointed. Had a fabulous back facial by Dana, she was awesome. Later came back and had her do an anti-aging facial. She was so relaxing and explained everything she was doing along with the product. I only give it two stars because I can see the potential of this establishment. However, when I came to receive a pedicure, manicure, facial and haircut all totaling around $200. But when I was waiting to check in at the front was talking to a cosmetology rep from some company. The woman at the front said " Sir, have a seat" politely, under her breath she CLEARLY mumbled "I hate when people do that. So I sat down and tried to take in what had just happened. When the rude women walked to the back another women politely again asked if I needed to be helped. So I then began to unfold the event that had just occurred. So I laughed and received an apologetic one so I thank you for that. However I may have served in combat but I'm not that deaf!!! You almost scored on a chunk of my military retirement pay. I've always had an amazing experience at Cabelos Salon! The atmosphere is super welcoming and the large windows in the back of the salon provide great natural lighting. I have gone to Clarissa for several haircuts and have recently got a Brazilian Hair Straightening treatment from her. It is amazing!!! My hair feels so soft and is WAY less frizzy than it was before the treatment. She also recommended shampoo and conditioner to help keep the treatment longer and it has helped so far :). I just moved to the Area and needed to find a new stylist. I checked Yelp and this is close to my house and so I thought I would give it a try. I called and asked for Natalie as I read great reviews about her. We made an appointment for today and I have to say, it was a great experience!!!! I told her what my "issues" are with my hair and she totally "got me" and did not try to chop all my hair off --it is short already by the way but still enough to play with and very thick. She agreed we needed to grow sections of it out to ultimately get the style/cut I wanted. So, for the first time in ages, I have a plan of attack to get what I need. In the meantime, she did cut it enough to feel better and gave it some style until it grows out some more. She is also fun and cheerful and sooooo easy to talk to!!! You won't regret going to her. Sad because I went here a few times for wash and blow dry and really liked the people. However, then I met " __________" a female stylist here. She was SO nice I let her cut my hair which I had not let anyone do for years due to a bad experience in the past. She asked if I had ever thought about a BOB. I said No! I am old enough to know what works on me and what doesn't. She then asked if I had ever thought about bangs. No! I said. I have a round face and bangs look horrible. I told her I need the length at my face to offset the roundness. I only wanted a trim of the ends. I also told her how slow my hair grows and that I liked the length it was. After I said she could trim a little off since my hair hadn't been trimmed in a long time, she proceeds to cutting. Of course, I can't see the back. When she is done, she flips the chair around pulling a piece of hair from the back up in the air and says " here is your length". At first I didn't get it. Since my hair is naturally curly/wavy/frizzy and I get it blown out straight most the time, it looked ok-ish. Once I got home, I saw how short it was. IT WAS A BOB!! She hacked off most the front and sides leaving an odd piece of length in the back. It looks like at least 2 entirely different hair cuts. Also, she layered my hair which can be a disaster for frizzy hair. I had explained my hair had lots of product on it and the actual texture of my hair. After she cut and dried it she said " wow your hair really IS different". Wasn't that what I had been telling her? She should have listened or seen the texture before hacking at it. She ruined my hair and it will take a long time to grow back. A stylist should NEVER cut someone's hair in a way they don't want. I had specifically told her I did not want this, yet she did it anyway. WHO DOES THAT? I don't care how cute she thought it would look on me. Now I am stuck with a ridiculous cut. I can't ever just let my hair air dry as I often did because the layers and the very short sides. The sides are far too short and stick out like bozo. I have tons and tons of frizz now due to the layers I did not want. I have to blow my hair straight all the time now and I can't possible style it myself blowing out the layers in the back to smooth them out, so I am paying for it to be done. $$$$ Also, now I will need to cut '"THE LENGTH" off so it's not a stair-step haircut. It's 4 inches shorter on the sides then just drops to the length in the back. No fading or gradual slant, just blunt cut at ends. I have never seen anything like it. I hope the stylist read this and never ever does this to anyone again. Let people decide how they like their hair. Give advice, but don't do whatever you want. read more
