This is a hard review for me to write. I went to Salt + Mane to see Becca - I've known her and trusted her for years. I work as a model and actor and am often asked to change my hair at the request of my agents, and she has never let me down. Until now. Over the months of September to October, I visited her about 4 times to slowly work my way from long dark brown hair to a light brown/blondish blunt bob. Somehow, after that process, I have ended up with an orange, striped, uneven, choppy layered bob. I could go into detail, but truthfully, I don't understand how it ended up this way. I blame myself for maybe not explaining well enough? But my hair looks nothing like any of the inspiration photos I've shown her. Not to mention, my hair seems way thinner than it has ever been and I'm wondering if she may have thinned it with shears as well. I've now been to another stylist who informed me that the haircut was not only uneven and poorly done, but the color is not blended and there is a band of old red color still lingering on the top of my head. Because of this, I'm going to have to spend more money to redo the color, and lose out on modeling & acting work while I wait for my hair to grow - which could take years. I really loved her and trusted her, that's why this is so hard to write. However, I just can't deny how awful this turned out and the toll it's taken on my mental health and my career. She issued a refund for the cut, which I am grateful for; however, it's still hard for me to fathom the amount of money I spent on the color as well for it to end up this way. I went to Ashton Arca at Salt & Stone for a brunette gloss (a basic, rich medium brown color I've had time and time again my whole life ) and left with BLACK and PURPLE-hued hair. It was the worst color I've ever had. I told her my hair was fine, fragile, and grabs color quickly. She glossed me TWICE without adjusting anything or using a porosity treatment (something I now know is a major no no). I even said in the chair that the tone looked off, and she ignored me. My scalp stung when she applied the root color and it was ultimately burned all over and dyed a purple hue as well. It is still stinging the next day. I mentioned it and she said it was normal for some mild stinging when applying the root color. This has never ever happened to me before and I've been going to salons for 25 years. And in the biggest breach of trust, we discussed only doing a demi-permanent color on my roots to be gentle and I found out after the fact she used harsh PERMANENT color directly against my consent. This is malpractice and completely unethical. I really can't believe it. After the appointment, I asked for a full refund multiple times. She refused and only returned the cost of the gloss and tip, even though the problem affected the entire service. She kept the charges for the root color and blow dry, even though I had to go home and immediately wash my hair with clarifying shampoo to try and fix the result. That didn't work, and the color still looked awful. She admitted in writing that she made a mistake and that the color was never supposed to turn out black and purple, yet still wouldn't refund me in full. I didn't feel safe going back to someone who let me walk out looking like that and refused to take full responsibility, not to mention burned my scalp and went directly against my wishes for the root color type. My family and friends were shocked, and even my former stylist couldn't believe how badly a simple gloss had gone. I've now booked a full correction with a professional at my own expense. I would not recommend Ashton to anyone who expects professional color work or basic accountability. read more

I had called Juliet for a wash, hair dry, and straightening. When I got there she recommend getting a TRIM for my dead ends, I said yes because I didn't mind a little trim, next thing I know she has taken off 3 inches. When I went in my hair was past the middle of my back and now it is to my shoulder blades straight and I have very curly hair which she knew and stated it will shrink up. I am very disappointed. I have debated posting this but I am a teenager and I have saved my money for this and I am very disappointed and sad with how short and how my hair turned out. It is rare for me to write negative reviews. I try to compliment employees' work. I will start with the positive. My hairdresser was pleasant during the whole process. However, after my haircut, I was billed $123.05 (including tip) just for a wash and a simple cut. This simple procedure at this price was outrageously expensive. I wish the hairdresser was upfront about the prices, and I wish the prices were on their website. $123.05 is much too expensive for a haircut, to get my hair washed, and towel-dried/blow-dried. I went in asking for a haircut and they charged me for a wash even though I did not ask for it. This is very deceptive customer service. The outrageous price was not worth the service provided. I wish I could have received a refund. read more

I was visiting my hometown last weekend and needed a cut and high/low lights. Which is risky, since I don't live in the area and don't know the reputation of any stylists other than YELP reviews. It was a last minute booking which makes it even more challenging. I searched different salons on YELP. I found Salt and Mane and accepted the first stylist who was available, who was Tenley. She didn't expect someone with short hair since I requested highlights. She asked many questions about high/lowlights and my preferred type of cut. She also made suggestions and explained the suggestions. I'm glad I went with her suggestion of using low lights that blend with the natural color of my hair. What I loved about Tenley is she worked as if my hair was a piece of art, which reflects the words used on the website. Tenley took the time throughout the process to make sure I was going to be satisfied with the cut and color. I give big props to Tenley for asking questions, making suggestions and paying attention to details of how and which instrument to use to create her art. Megan is the best!!! She did my moms hair after a absolute hair catastrophe done by another stylist at another salon. My moms hair was partially melted together and she had to wait a year for it to be fixed. Megan worked with my mom to give her a very natural blonde bob. This review is long overdue. If you're looking for a salon full of talented hairstylists who really know what they are doing and provide excellent customer service then is the one. I'm so happy to have finally found a salon I can count on. First time I went, Ashton did my hair. She's the owner of this beautiful Salon and you can immediately tell she really cares about her business. She explained everything she was doing all throughout the hair process and even showed me how to wave my hair with the curling iron so I can recreate the look which I really appreciated. The second time I went, I didn't see Ashton on the website so I looked through the stylists IG's and found the haircut I wanted on Morgan's page. She did an excellent job and did exactly what I wanted. I love my haircut so much and I even bought the Kevin Murphy hair products she used on me because my hair felt so soft and hydrated.
