So happy to be one of the first yelpers of this amazing new establishment! My brother and I both work from home, and are so pumped that Mosaic has another new spot that is perfect for remote workers. We were already excited that Caboose was coming to the area, but when we saw that the new location is also a coffee shop our excitement skyrocketed! So smart of the owners to do this. We're just sitting down to our first beverages here, but here are our initial thoughts: SERVICE: Everyone here is very nice and informative. We had questions about the new spot and menu, and they were happy to take time to chat with us. Love that this will soon be a cash free establishment as well! Makes payment easy and fast using the spiffy iPad system. AMBIENCE: This is the brewery / coffee shop of dreams. Edison bulbs strung across the outside patio and indoor space, high ceilings to make it feel airy and fresh, SO MANY tables and seating options, huge open windows during warm weather, and succulents on many tables. There is a huge window into the brewery so you can watch the beer brewing process. There is also wifi for us remote workers. OFFERINGS: We came on day 1, so the menu was limited, but the friendly staff told us that they will be adding food and drink options in the coming days. On day 1, they had a bunch of espresso drinks (with your choice of milk - almond, etc.), various tea options, etc. We'll definitely be back time and time again - at night, for early morning coffees, for dinner, for everything! Amazing food, service and ambiance! I would highly recommend this to all family and friends

I can see this place really working. Great location on the edge of mosaic district, somewhat limited direct parking mitigated by a quick hop to many garages. Inside the space is still in its early phases it seems, overly spartan and not very inviting. Up stairs is kind of fun but packs up quickly. The food is good enough to keep you going for a few rounds. When we were there they ran out of a few of the nice sounding items on tap, so they can run out of things you are looking to try pretty easily it seems, which can be a buzz kill on a first full time through. Good sign for their business though as they figure out what sells and what stock they need to retain. Outside is a lot like indoors, pretty uninspired design and struggles with the sun are in your future in the evenings. Some games are outside to keep your group interested. Nice little spot near Merrifield for some drinks and food. They have a nice selection of food (wings, burgers, nachos, salads, etc.) and a lot of drinks to choose from - beer and ciders of course but also cocktails, sangrias, coffees, teas, etc. The building is pretty large w/ 3 floors and an open layout throughout. There is also a nice sized outdoor patio w/ plenty of shade. They have plenty of stuff for kids with corn hole sets, life size chess board, sidewalk chalk, and other games. Finally had a chance to go there today. Nothing special. Food was over marinated with hot sauce. The chicken sandwich close to $20.00 was so spicy hot that it belonged in a Thai restaurant. Caboose Commons has everything I want in life. It's a fun place to meet people and have a conversation, they have fast, free internet. It's bright and airy with huge windows. There's indoor and outdoor seating. They have all day coffee, really delicious food (it's a food destination for me), and fantastic beer. Oh and there are games and entertainment, all in a very casual atmosphere. You can sit at high top tables, low top tables, picnic tables, coffee tables, on sofas, stools or chairs. I mean, seriously, it has it all...except a large parking lot. The parking lot does fill up, a minor inconvenience. For food I usually get a Buddha bowl or the poke bowl. The poke is my fave, though. It's just so tasty! Oh and the burgers are not to be missed, and they come with crunchy fries. Oh man, I'm excited just thinking about how great all this food is! Caboose Commons is a great place for meetings, and many of the tables have people meeting at them. They host events sometimes. With three levels of space, it's incredible how many "rooms" there are to meet in. I don't mean rooms in the traditional sense but as meeting areas. The most common patron of Caboose Commons during the day are the telework campers. They occupy most of the upstairs, while the downstairs tables are for the outside-office work meetings. The middle level is a mix. Service is spectacular, but it's a NO CASH establishment, cards only. They recently installed ordering stations that allow you to just walk up and place orders on an ipad, but I have never experienced much of a line. The friendly staff are always ready to help me out, or just give me a smile of encouragement as I chase my kids up the stairs for the 1-billionth time. I don't know what else to say, this is such a chill place that you can come here for almost any occasion. Went here for the first time, on the first truly beautiful night of March. It really is a neat place - from the huge outdoor seating area, the super kid and dog friendly atmosphere and the amazing food. The lights hanging make the outdoor area ambiance totally kicked up a notch. The inside has three levels of seating. There are plenty of ordering lanes which makes even long lines move fairly quickly. They bring your food to you whether you sit inside or out. You can order your drinks from your table with a cool QR code. You simply open your camera and then a link pops up to safari. It's a bummer that you can't order food from outside. They have a really great kids menu and high chairs. Caboose is truly a family-friendly environment which I think is really awesome. There is parking including parking for electric cars. It is located in mosaic district so you could park in one of the garages and walk over as well. Caboose also serves breakfast, has coffee and WiFi, so this is on the list for visiting during the day to get some work **UPDATE!! Went for daytime coffee and work and it was great! The coffee was yummy and they have so many housemate syrups to get. I got maple and it was super yummy! Plus, their chocolate croissant gets two thumbs up! I went to Caboose Commons for the first time today! It was so nice to walk in and see the lights and open setting. I came here fo me an event to promote women owned businesses and women's history. I'm giving this spot 4 stars because of its environment mostly. It seems like the perfect place to grab a coffee, wine, and good conversation. That's exactly what I did...for hours and I would do it again any day of the week. I did not try their food, so I cannot comment on that. It's nice they have so many options for drinks from alcoholic, caffeinated, and not. There is definitely something for everyone here. I was slightly discouraged that a lot of what I was looking for they did not have but "usually would" example: a sour beer that usually is guest tap but was no longer available, or a different ale that was also unavailable but usually available. Not sure if it's because of the time I came in or what but I always like more options. My rose was enjoyable and not too sweet, my friend got the Prosecco and enjoyed its sweetness. I was worried about parking due to some reviews but right next door there is a lot with a good amount of space that I was able to park in! Phew! One of my new favorite places to go. I'm not a beer person but I am a cool atmosphere, great food, fun to place to bring your laptop to get work done type person and Caboose is all that. I love going in the mornings when the light is coming through the windows. Great atmosphere and the staff is always super cool. As far as food: it's one of those places that you can't order anything bad. Last time I was there I had the poke bowl. My only regret was not ordering another one cuz it was so good. Came here for Mothers Day . Really not happy with food and service . Ordered hamburgers . They were ordinary and tasteless with French fries . Cocktails were awful . Only thing good was the pork bowl . Among all the food we ordered Avocado toast , cheese toast two orders of hamburgers and two orders of the pork bowl . That's the only one good . They never gave us cutlery . We had to go down and get it . Nor did they serve any water . Never going there again . Waste of money . read more

Cool relatively new brewery - think coffee and beer in the Mosaic District. There is a large indoor space and an outdoor beer garden. Inside is Spartan and loud with the high ceilings. There is also order to what appears to chaos as you enter. First look at the menu board, decide what you want, go to one of the cashiers, order and wait until they call your name to pick it up. The kitchen specializes in southern bar food, like mac and cheese, fried pickles, burgers, chicken wings. Everything was pretty good. The beers are well crafted in numerous styles. If you like craft beer, there are plenty to choose from. Parking can be problematic as their lot is small -- there are few legal options anywhere close by. read more

Caboose commons adds a much needed spot to relax, have fun, study, whatever you please in a casual environment in Mosaic. I've been a fan of the brewery for a while, and was so happy to hear that they were opening this spot even closer to me than before. When first hearing the format of the place I initially thought it would be a weird Frankenstein of a restaurant searching for its identity, but the brewery/cafe concept seems to work well here. I've been looking for a place nearby to get some work done while having a drink - I didn't feel out of place in Caboose Commons at all. There are plenty of seating areas, and the upper level adds a nice distance between the action for those who want to study or work. The music is a bit loud in the evenings, but with headphones it shouldn't be a problem. Not a place to take a business call though. I absolutely love the Hobo vanilla stout - it's everything I want in a beer on a cold night. I have to say, the food is pretty good too. I love the brussel sprouts and was glad to see they made it back onto the menu at the new location. The avocado toast was also very nice. The butternut squash soup has a surprising but pleasant curry flavor. Not sure why the negative comments of a limited menu - it's true that it fits on one page but better that than a book of food that is cooked subpar and without attention, in my opinion. read more

I came here because my friend recommended it. It was a Thursday around 8pm when I came for after dinner drinks, and the place was still packed and happening! Very casual, and very friendly. You go up to the cashier to order your food and drinks. You go to the bar and get your drink and your food is dropped off at your table. Prices are reasonable at $11 for a drink and food was pretty decent too. The sign for happy hour said 3-6pm, and was only $1 off beer, which I think is really early for it to end too. The place has a nice outdoor seating area, which has a nice view of the sunset from Mosaic. The indoor seating area has 3 levels, and it was jam packed. The place was loud. Seemed kid-friendly too. Might I suggest moving the kids gaming area to the other side of the restaurant?? Seems a bit dangerous to have it so near the main road like that. I walked there from Mosaic, but I assume there's parking nearby. The fried pickles are too die for!!! Thin and crispy, almost like potato chips! The pretzel bites were a bit overly done, and dry. I have been a fan of Caboose's Vienna location and had to check out their new, additional location in the Mosaic District. The new location is much larger and has expanded selection relative the Vienna location. The parking access is much better also. There's a large outdoor area that I suspect will be active when the weather improves. They open early in the morning and offer coffee drinks. Downstairs you order at the counter and get whatever items are ready at that time. We sat upstairs and noticed that each table had a sticker with a QR code that the sticker said could be used to order. When it was time for another beer, I used the QR code. It opened a browser to a menu page, I selected a beer, entered my payment, and a short while later the drink was delivered to my table. This place is so great. They just opened up and you can go any time of day and still have a good time. Grabbing coffee in the morning? This place has some fantastic lattes. I got mine today with vanilla, and it was arguably one of the best vanilla lattes I've ever had, 12 oz and very reasonably priced. Going out on a date, or with a group? Indoors or outdoors, you'll find plenty of room and lots of neat little pockets to sit down. The beers are great, and they have ciders, wine in a few varieties. They accommodate any and all tastes. The casual, comfortable environment I really think is good for almost any occasion. They're open early and late, and it's an impressive amount of space. Odd place. I stopped in to try the beer. Thinking that I could walk in and just order a beer, I was surprised when I discovered that it required a cell phone, a text message, credit card, and 10 minutes of answering questions on a web site. Nachos sounded good until I read that it had pickled onions and radishes in it! Coming from Texas, this is not nachos! Finally, they added a "fair wage fee" to my tab. If they want fair wages, pay fair wages and price accordingly. Don't expect the customers to be fooled by prices and then hit with another charge, Normally, I would tip 20-25%. The beer was OK, even if it cost over $9. The place has promise, but a better menu and simpler service is needed. read more

Been there a few times, it's a perfect casual spot in my opinion for family/friends meet up and I even saw a few groups of people working. Beer we got was Mango Tajin , Rasberry and Tangerine gose (all so good but especially the Mango Tajin!) For food we ordered the fried pickles which are so good, Buddha bowl was fresh and very filling, wings and Mac&cheese with chicken. I love how family friendly it was we had our baby with us and saw about 4 others sitting upstairs with us. I've been here a few times, and it's been great. I'll say upfront that my least favorite things are the beers. I prefer bready, unfiltered Bavarian style brews, if which they offer none. The coffee and tea selection more than makes up for it though, imo. The seating is plentiful and the atmosphere is on point. On one Sunday, a group of friends and I enjoyed live music. I don't know if that's every Sunday or not, but he was a good performer and it added nicely to the vibe. The food here is nothing to sneeze at either. They have an interesting take on traditional avocado toast that I'd recommend. The mac'n'cheese was also tasty. Lastly, at least in the upper most seating area, you're able to order by phone. I frequent this brewery often. The beer and food are delicious! I got the Mexican Bowl and it was fantastic! It looked so good that I forgot to take a picture before inhaling it. I loved the cauliflower rice in place of real rice. The meat was so tender and flavorful. I would get the bowl again! My go to beer there is the Sidetrack Saison. I wanted to love this place (I actually know one of the founders of Caboose Brewery). This is my second time visiting the Fairfax/Merrifield location. First time was underwhelming (we just picked up [bad] coffee and left) and they had just opened, so I refrained from reviewing until I gave it a real visit. I was meeting a friend on a Saturday afternoon. Ordered a large almond milk single shot latte. Was given a medium. When I pointed it out, he apologized and remade it quickly. It was awful. Barely above room temperature and espresso was burned. Went to find a place to sit. Tables were hard to find because so many of them were dirty. Found a nice set of guys who let me take half their table to make a spot. Had to bus it myself (just added it to the pile of dishes on the table next to me. Floors were a mess, I didn't want to put my bag down (see picture). Had a chat with the tables next to me. They were surprised at the state of the place. Maybe it was a bad day for Caboose. They didn't look understaffed... I'm not sure what went wrong. Side note: super hard to tell who is staff and not. They wear plain clothes, so it's near impossible to ask for help on the upper floors. read more

This place is overrated. The interior is just as cool as advertised, for sure, and plenty of outdoor patio space as well. But beyond that...it's not worth it. Because of its architecture, the space really carries and amplifies sound. It wasn't even too full inside from what I could see, but still my friend and I were shouting to each other through our meal. The meal itself was such a let down. A burger and fries for $17, and for the burger to be so over cooked and chewy and just SO BLAND. The fries were meh. I ordered a cider, which I hated the taste of, but because this place doesn't have servers, I couldn't ask to have it taken off the bill, so that was another $12 down the drain. I then ordered a glass of Rose which was $11 for a measly 5 ounces! I couldn't believe how expensive this place was. For a very unsatisfactory meal and a tip, I dropped close to $50. The place also had such a weird smell. The second I walked in, all I could small was marijuana. Each time someone who worked there walked past, that's what I smelled. Most likely it wasn't weed, I know, but whatever it was stuck on the workers and it was nauseating. I would say that I'd come by to try their coffee one day, but I think my wallet needs a break! read more
