Honest and decent price. I took my husband's truck in for a brake inspection, just knowing we needed new brakes. Last time they were inspected (somewhere else) we were told we could squeeze a little more out of them but would definitely need new brakes next time, including turning the rotors. Cindy asked me why I thought we needed new brakes and I told her. They could have easily charged us for new brakes but to my surprise, I got a call and she said, our brakes were fine at 7mm and should be replaced at 2mm. They also didn't charge us the fee to chisel off the locks from our wheels. (Our key for the locks was stolen when someone broke into our truck.) Plus gave us a10% discount on our total bill for a "new customer" discount. Very fair prices. read more

Randy strikes me as an honest owner--communication is always pleasant and helpful--who doesn't push unneeded services or extras. His prices are also very competitive (other shops tend to gouge a bit when it comes to non-Asian cars). Went to Cabot on recommendation from another auto mechanic for starter replacement. The other mechanic said he "trusted him" and this is the highest type of compliment they can give. The price was much less than quoted somewhere else, both the part and labor, and done within the time quoted. Gary explained everything to me in great detail, is extremely nice and I was blown away by the price. He is a Master Mechanic so he has had extensive training. I have seen all different makes being worked on there. The business, including the auto bays is very clean and ladies that includes the restroom. 5 STARS, 2 THUMBS UP!!! Gary and his wife, Tina, rock! I called for last minute afternoon A/C service repair last Thursday during the hottest days of the summer (end of August). Not only did Gary look at my car that same day, but he was able to order the parts (my car manufacturer is out of business so it isn't easy) that afternoon for next day delivery. 24 hours later, I was back in business. It's not just the honesty that others have mentioned, but the family atmosphere/ hometown service. Called and Gary said to bring my truck in as the check engine light was on. Came in the next day and Gary went out to my truck and diagnosed the issue as a vacuum leak some where in the fuel system. He adjusted my gas cap and then hooked up the computer to reset the engine light to see if it would stay off while I drove it for a day or two. It did. He charged me nothing. I recently had my water pump replaced because Firestone had told me that was the reason my car was overheating. I'm really bummed because 2 weeks later I drove to LA, and low and behold....STILL OVERHEATING!!...anyways, cabot auto service is a "new place", however, talk to the owner Gary, and he has to be the most genuine mechanic I've ever met..personally. He told me the REAL reason my car was overheating was that I had a faulty thermostat, and that it wasn't letting water into the motor to cool it down. He fixed it for 125 bucks, and he didn't try to sell me on a bunch of crap'. I'm stoked this guys here, and ill definitely be referring anybody who wants a good mechanic. read more

This is the first time I have ever felt the need to write a review for a company, but I was so impressed by the honesty of integrity of Gary that I was compelled to do so. I brought my car in after believing that I needed new brakes. Gary inspected the vehicle thoroughly, and told me that a new brake job was unnecessary and that I could drive on them for awhile. He did not even charge me for taking a look at the vehicle and taking it for a drive to test the brakes. There are many shops that would have replaced the brakes, and then suggested a litany of over repairs that had to be done. Gary and his wife, are personable and take the time to interact with you which is nice. The owner, Gary, is as knowledgable as they get. I brought my 2002 Honda Civic in for a noise in the front end. I had taken it to two other shops and spent over $800 trying to remedy the problem. After a two minute description on the "clunk" Gary knew exactly what the problem was, showed me the bushing that was bad and replaced it that day. I've been looking for an honest, high quality auto repair shop in Laguna Hills and finally found it! The day before I took my car in, I talked with Gary and told him that I needed a front brake job. I gave him my car information and he ordered the parts. The next day I took my car in and he completed the front brake job in only a couple of hours. He was also extremely busy that day but managed to get my car done pretty quickly. A short time later, I received a call from his very nice wife Tina letting me know my car was finished and ready to be picked up. The service was incredible and the price was great also. Wonderful! My car was at about 60,000 so I was ready for the 60k service and expected to pay a few hundred for maintenance. Much to my surprise, Gary and staff checked everything and the only thing that needed to be done was the oil change!! My car is doing well and will need some basic repairs like tires and struts but I have been given the heads up so that I can start saving and wasn't pushed to get it replaced right then and there. I called numerous times to make an appointment early Friday and was told I would get a call back. I did not get a call so I called back before close and no answer. They decided to close doors on Saturday so I showed up Monday morning. They said they were booked and it was a big stretch for them to get me scheduled in for the day after that. I showed up bright and early the day I was "scheduled" and was told "to go somewhere else because they don't have time to do the job today". There seemed to be a miscommunication between the husband and wife with scheduling; either way you do not talk to your customers like such. I have been loyal to this business for years and could not believe the disrespect and run-around. I took my car problem down the street and got the job done within 45 minutes... something I should have done in the beginning but I thought loyalty might be something they would like to build, as most mechanics or businesses do. read more

Very nice people but way too expensive.Went here to replace a $40(quoted from actual dealer for OEM part) thermostat. He confirmed that's what it was. He quoted $300 to replace. Thermostat literally takes 15 minutes to install and is readily accessible. He quoted $59 as part cost. It's $40 at the dealershi p and $27 at autozone. I just watched the YouTube video in full at 14.5 minutes total. 2 bolts as it's a full enclosed unit. Easy to bleed as unit also has bleeder screw on top. He would have been more expensive if I didn't have my own OEM radiator fluid too($30). He told me he charges $110 to diagnose any problems . He adds that as part of the total job. Most people don't charge you to diagnose if you do the work with them. Most people are about $60 in my experience . Nice guy but too expensive for me. I'm gonna do this one myself and is still gonna be cheaper even though I had to pay him $110 to walk away. Good luck. read more

Every 5 Star review you have read below is absolutely true. If you are like me and do a lot of research before giving your business to anyone then you can stop right now. You will not find a better, more honest mechanic than Gary. I started going to Cabot about 3 years ago and have since referred all of my friends and family to them and they all say the same thing "They are best" They will tell you what is necessary and what can wait, there is no hard selling and they will always look for the most cost effective way to fix the issue and will do it right every time. Their customer service is beyond excellent, I once had a blinker light go out and was close by the shop so i thought I would stop in to see if they had time to fix it. I could tell they were busy so I thought I would just come back another day. As I drove by the service bays Gary saw my truck and waved at me, he came out of the bay to see what was wrong. I told him about the blinker and said I would come back as I knew they were busy. Gary smiled at me, told me to pop the hood and after about 3 minutes he had replaced the light. When I started to open my door to go inside to pay for the light he told me not to worry about it, he said we could settle up the next time I came in. Try doing that at Jiffy Lube. read more
