    Cachapa (l) and patacon (r)
    Janet H.

Alex and I have a record of eating at mediocre places. Add this one to that list. We ordered the chicken empanada, shredded beef cachapa and chicken patacon. No matter how much I drowned them in their "special sauce" and mayo ketchup, the meats were dry. The bottom of my patacon was soggy. The dried side didn't taste fresh, as if it's been sitting out there for awhile that it was missing the crunch I yearn for. Lemonade tasted like sour-sugar water. The restaurant is super tiny, about 350 sq ft if I eyeball it. I wouldn't suggest eating in. More like a take out spot. The wall has a countertop with 4 bar stools. With the heavy rain outside and no other customers there, we decided to "dine in." Alex had a great view of snot hanging off the wall in front of his cachapa. Again, I wouldn't suggest dining in. So what are the pros? 1. The Dominican lady at the encounter was super sweet and gave us prompt service. 2. Huge portions + cheap price 3. Delivery is available via Uber eats

This place was ok. Better than what you would expect around this are, but some of the food is either saturated with sauce or really oily. Their sauces are really good. The passion fruit juice was as most reviews said, not over sweetened. I was glad I tried it, but I've definitely have had better.

I wanted cachapas but didn't want to head all the way to the heights for it. I checked on yelp and found this place. Now the last place I had a cachapa from was from the Arepa Factory which was really good but now pales in comparison to this place. Not that it isn't still good but this place blows it out of the water. A cachapa is a Venezuelan Sandwich that is made with a sweet corn cake. The other place I went to made the Cachapa out of the arepa which I am sure can be done too. The sandwich is filled with meat, vegetables and a special sauce. The price ranges from place to place. Here, mine cost me $9 which I originally thought was going to be too much. Boy was I wrong. I also got me a Chinola (Passion Fruit) Juice for $3. The service was very quick. I liked being able to see them put my meal together. I saw them prep the Cachapa, put the cheese, the chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and their sauces. The gentleman behind the counter was kind enough to bring my food over to me at my table. I had no idea what to expect because it looked nothing like the one I had before. The chicken meat was tender. It was shredded and full of flavor. Underneath it was a blanket of mozzarella cheese. Then came the toppings I mentioned above. The special sauces took this sandwich to another level. One sauce tasted like a ketchup mayo which is common in spanish cuisine. The other was a creamy chimichurri type of sauce that I absolutely loved! It was herby and garlicky without being too overpowering. The cachapa itself was big enough for 2 people to eat but I was hungry...$12 was actually reasonable. I have a full video on my blog. You check it out there. Otherwise, go visit this place.

Lol got a gift of chicken empanadas as first timer customers. Owners are friendly and service is super nice. Definitely been craving patacon for forever + looking forward to ordering delivery at my office in the Hub :) Ordered a patacon with pulled pork + everything already bathing in this sauceeeeeeeeeee. Be brave and try the hot sauce. Also, was on a roll and ordered a cachapa with chicken. Just, just eat here. Come before Insider Food finds this place!

I frequent this area so much and didn't know this place existed until last week. I ordered a chicken cachapa and chinola online for pickup since I was meeting a friend nearby. I arrived within 10 min and the owner, I assume, said the online order will be a few more minutes. After about 10 min he hands me a bag but wasn't mine so I deducted a star. I should have specified more than just saying ordered online but he could have asked which pickup order, since he had more than 1. The food and drink were so good that I have to look past that little hiccup since I got my food a few minutes, 10-15 but I didn't have to be anywhere for another 2 hrs, and he gave my friends and I a sample of chicken empanada while we waited too. The chicken empanada was small for $1.50 but very tasty. I'm used to getting the crunchy Domican empanadas from delis that are big enough to be a real snack. The cachapa was not only delicious but actually contained different flavors and was satisfying. I haven't gone to another Venezuelan restaurant to know the pricing difference but I will be sure to try. This cuisine is now on my list thanks to this place.

This is a super small place with 1 table and a wall shelf with 2 barstools. But don't let that fool you. The food is authentic, fresh, and made to order. We were lucky to grab the table to eat. We munched on an empanada and a cheese stick while were waiting for the main courses. I had the Cachapa which is a sweet corn cake filled with lettuce, tomato, and a creamy garlic sauce. I opted for the grilled chicken version. Each bite is the perfect balance of sweet and savory. My fiancé decided on the Yaroa. This is a dish smothered in different sauces, and melted cheese over mashed plantains. My fiancé got the shredded chicken for this dish. He enjoyed it, but I wasn't crazy about it. I think the plantains needed more flavor. It just seemed too mushy to me. It needed more texture. There is an option to switch out the plantains for fries and I think that would make all the difference because that garlic sauce is sooooooo good! This place is opened late for some great late night eats. Definitely a place to check out, whether you want an all natural shake or juice, or just some food. If it's busy just take it to go!

I am in luck to find this place so close to home . Usually I have to go all the way to the height and fight cross bronx traffic but this is a block and a half away the food here is delicious and fresh . Everyone who works here is friendly and inviting . The owner let us sample some empanaditas with his special garlic sauce . Great new place to eat in the BX try it out , thank me later

    Reasonable prices.

My friends and I arrived at Sho J Oregano's Crescent Avenue location at approximately 9:45 PM. The restaurant's posted closing time was 10:00 PM, yet we were told they would not seat us. Disappointed but willing to give them another chance, we paid for a taxi to their White Plains Road location, which was listed as being open until 11:00 PM. We arrived around 10:00 PM only to be told that they were also closed and would not serve us. The result? We wasted time, money on transportation, and an entire evening chasing a meal at a restaurant that was supposedly open. What made the experience even more disappointing was the response after I shared my review. Rather than acknowledging the inconvenience or apologizing for the confusion, the restaurant chose to challenge my account. I have no reason to misrepresent what happened. My review reflects exactly what my group experienced that evening. This isn't about expecting to be served after closing. It's about arriving during the posted business hours at two separate locations and being turned away both times. If the kitchen closes early or there is a last-seating policy, that information should be clearly posted online and at the restaurant. Customers shouldn't have to guess whether "open" actually means the business is still serving guests. For a restaurant that has received so much praise, I expected far better customer service and accountability. Great food can earn awards, but honesty, consistency, and respect for customers are what earn loyalty. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend making a special trip here unless you're prepared for the possibility that the posted hours may not reflect when they'll actually serve customers.

The crispy octopus easily rivals anything I've had in Manhattan, super tender with just the right crisp. The cassava hash browns were so good I was almost annoyed by how simple they were. Paired with a rich, meaty sauce and a fresh fennel crunch, the whole dish was incredibly balanced. The wings were the most straightforward item on the menu (in the best way), lightly spiced, slightly sweet, and great for picky eaters. Someone needs to give the bartenders a raise. I ordered three drinks just to test consistency--every single one was balanced, spirit-forward, and not overly sweet. The presentation was different on each one and felt intentional without being gimmicky. I've seen some of the lower Yelp ratings and they mostly call out price, but this is very much a you get what you pay for situation. The quality of the food, the portion sizes (especially for this level of execution), and the overall intentionality behind the menu justify it in my opinion. Service was excellent. They squeezed me in last minute, and my waiter, Dionicio, handled my coconut allergy (not easy at a Dominican spot) with real care and ease. The space itself is worth mentioning - moody, mushroom/mossy interiors. Super cute, very well thought out, and definitely a place I'll be coming back to.
