We went back after our first debacle here soon after they opened. Talk about a turnaround, OMG!! This place now is amazing! The ambience is awesome! Beautiful surroundings, great stage setup. This place is a party waiting to happen! And the food is sooooooo good! I had the barbecue wings. Crunchy and delicious! You don't need anything to dip them in, but it comes with them. I also had a sirloin, cooked beautifully. So tender you could cut it with a fork! My only tiny complaint might be that it had a bit too much salt. And the salad bar to start is the bomb! My wife had the fried shrimp that were a nice size and cooked beautifully! We also tried the delicious spinach artichoke dip with chips. So,so good! Now the service. Just amazing! read more

First of hopefully many reviews. I always love to try new places, but kinks are inevitable. These are the things that are suggested for Cactus Jack's management: 1. The salad bar; get spoons & have a set person assigned to it to stock/clean it. Get some bread- either at the table or at least with the salad bar. 2. Gravy comes on mashed potatoes. It should always be an option, and not one that cost $2.50 more. 3. Make sure the cooks know the difference between steak temperatures. If steaks are one of the main items, they should have this down pat. 4. Get a lot less peppery on the gravy & chicken-fried steak. Let the other flavors shine though! 5. Kid's meals; they don't need to be the size of an adult meal, but shouldn't be the size of McDonalds either. Or people will just start going there for less $! 6. ALWAYS have waitstaff inform tables when gratuity is added. This is should be a given, but was not. We visited Cactus Jacks on Christmas Eve. Ambiance is great. I had expected it to be loud, and although there was music on (not live), we were able to have a conversation which was a nice surprise. We were seated quickly for a table of 8. Our server greeted us right away and took our drink order. We asked for recommendations and chicken-fried steak their steaks were both recommended. Both of these come with one side and the salad bar. I went to look at the salad bar. There was a good selection, but quite a few containers needed refilled. I ordered the sirloin & mashed potatoes. Others ordered the chicken-fried steak, salmon, kids pizza & chicken nuggets. It had been about 15 minutes since I first looked at the salad bar. Items were still not stocked, even with a steady line. Most of the items had tongs for serving. The line moved slowly because is was impossible to use to them for hardboiled egg pieces, grapes, etc. The area was very messy since half the stuff fell off the tongs before you got it to your plate. They had cheese like Taste of Texas, which is amazing. But, no rolls or bread. Cottage cheese would have also been nice. Salad bar rating was 6/10 due to difficulty getting the items, empty containers, messiness and no bread options. Our waitress was attentive at first, but we realized we had to flag her down for drink refills. There were also things on the menu that she said were unavailable. The food came out in a timely manner, but delivered by someone else so we had to ask for a couple sides/refills. My husband asked for extra gravy for his CFS. After tasting my mashed potatoes, and realizing they were plain mashed potatoes (good, but no garlic or other flavors to enhance it), I too requested a side of gravy. Those two sides took quite a bit of time to get. Unfortunately, my steak was almost gone and half our table was done by the time they were brought to us. Once again, there was no rolls to accompany any of the meals. My steak was ordered med-rare, but although it had good flavor, was definitely med-well. Rating for the sirloin was 6/10, once again room for improvement. The people who ordered the chicken fried steak were unimpressed. There was so much black pepper in both the breading and gravy, that it overpowered the taste of the CFS. Rating for it was 5/10. The salmon was decent, but a bit dry. The kids meals were both very small. The pizza was the size of a saucer, although good. The chicken nuggets were like McDonalds, only 4 of them were on the plate, with a handful of fries. Incredibly small for $7. When our waitress came to bring our check, she gave us each our total on the Toast app. I always like the fact that we can pay right there from the device, but dislike that there is no explanation of the bill. She gave me my total, and it was quite a bit more then I anticipated. When questioned, she insisted that it was corrected, once again without further explanation. I paid and asked her for a receipt. She brought back the receipt, which is when I realized that gratuity had already been added. Everyone of us had added this on as if there was no gratuity added. I also realized that we were charged almost $5 for our two sides of gravy, without ever being told there would be a charge for it. Gravy should be standard for mashed potatoes. And if I had known there was that much of a charge for it (almost the amount of a side), I would not have got it. All in all, I was leaving her an over 50% tip for mediocre service at best. She has already disappeared, so I requested to speak to a manager on our way out. Carl was very nice and apologized for us not being aware that gratuity was added. I did not bring up the gravy at that point. It was Christmas Eve and although I was wanted to be generous, I just couldn't leave a $35 tip for a $60 meal. The rest of our party (the additional gratuity was only $5 or less), didn't bring it up. He refunded me the portion that I asked and we went on our way. Has become a family favorite with their menu options. My wife and I go with the Choice Angus Filet Mignon and Cowboy Ribeye. Our son loves the hearty Country Fried Steak and our daughter loves the classic Fajitas. They have a salad bar option available while you wait for you food. The Staff has been first class attentive and friendly. We get the 32 oz Cactus Jack beer with the Boot Mug. Great atmosphere with televisions and live music at times. High Recommended!! read more

We went for lunch or so I thought. We had a very sweet young lady that waited on us. We ordered spinach dip as an appetizer and I ordered a brisket potato. My spouse ordered salad and sandwich. I had to ask to replace my silverware as the first and second one I received was dirty. I was told by waitstaff that the bbq was running behind so I patiently waited. My spouse received his food while I continued to wait. The first potato was cold. The butter would not melt. The second one they brought was also cold and had ingredients that I did not order. The third potato I ordered to go as my spouse had already finished eating. We spent 68.00 and change. I would have thought they would offer some type of discount for all the issues. They did not. I wasn't expecting a free meal. The waitress ask if we wanted a desert being there was no discount on the food. We declined considering what had already transpired. The manager Nate came by the table to let us know it was not the servers fault. He didn't want what happened to affect her tip I guess. I never blamed her and we left her a nice tip. Needless to say the first time we visited we had similar problems. We wanted to give them a second chance. I don't believe we will go back considering all the issues. The aesthetic is great but service and food could use improvement. Shrimp were not de-veined, and kids Mac is similar to Kraft Mac n cheese. For the prices, I did expect better. There was a large wait staff presence, and the few we interacted with were kind but also seemed distracted amongst each other- most were standing around blocking multiple walkways and loitering during the entire time we were there while tables were not set for whole sections where people were already being seated. Again, the aesthetic is very fun and unique; the kids play area is totally fenced in, and wide enough for bigger kids to have space to run while littles could play and crawl.
