He had three leashes and three very large dogs, and when I ran around the camper to find what the commotion was, I found him standing with his three big dogs who were attacking my 9-pound Havapoo. Her entire leg is bruised. I learned my lesson. Never assumed that people will control their dogs. This man shouted at me with the F word while he stood and watched his three large-breed dogs attack my little dog. Nobody should take three dogs on a leash if they are not capable of keeping the dogs from doing harm. Never again will I make that mistake. Lucy will stay in the truck during set up. I'll never stay there again.

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed with how clean and well-maintained the campground was. Our site was spacious and had full hookups, and the campground offers a nice variety of amenities, including hiking trails, a visitor center, showers, laundry facilities, and even a game room. The setting is one of the best things about this campground. We were tucked right at the foot of Cheyenne Mountain and had a beautiful view of the city from our site. We also had several visits from mule deer during our stay, which was a fun bonus. And then there was my first-ever sighting of a scorpion! I wasn't necessarily hoping for that particular wildlife encounter, but it certainly made for a memorable camping experience. We enjoyed exploring the hiking trails, and I appreciated that the campground clearly identifies which trails are dog-friendly. Some trails allow dogs and others don't, but the information is clearly shown on the trail map and on the trail signage, so there was no guesswork involved. There is one thing I wish we had known before arriving. If you're visiting from out of state, there is an additional Colorado State Parks pass fee on top of your camping fee, ranging from $10-$17 per day. We weren't expecting that extra charge, so a little more communication about the pass requirement during the reservation process would have been helpful. We made our reservations many months ago, and from what I understand the park pass fee took effect in May of this year, so that might have been the issue. A "heads-up" email from the Parks system would have been appreciated. We also didn't realize that an annual Colorado State Parks pass was an option. Since we had another six-night reservation at a different Colorado State Park during our trip, purchasing the annual pass would have saved us money. That's definitely something I would recommend checking into if you're planning to visit multiple state parks. Overall, we had a wonderful five-night stay. The clean campground, spacious sites, great amenities, beautiful mountain setting, wildlife, and convenient hiking trails made this a favorite stop on our Colorado trip. We would definitely stay here again!

The facilities were so clean and well maintained. Since we had these spots all day, we had a hike in the morning for people attending the wedding as well as the actual wedding in the evening. Most of our guests explored the facilities and hiked most of the morning. I know many of them will return soon because it was great. The amphitheater had electrical connection on the center circle. We didn't need it because the acoustics of the amphitheater were amazing. We had a harpist and the music carried beautifully. Their voices were clearly heard throughout the amphitheater. Our rainy day plan was the pavillion, which is lovely and amazingly well planned. This is a gorgeous place for a wedding. I can't believe I didn't mention the staff. They were so communicative and helpful. They were such a joy.

Couple of issues -road noise M-F from 7:00-4:00 as large trucks haul gravel from the quarry to town. The 2 lane road runs on the whole side of the resort. AND, we reached out to the advertised Colorado RV services to get some work done on our RV. They came by 2 times to meet with us but never gave us an estimate or touched base to schedule the work. We followed up numerous times. Our initial conversation was 7 weeks prior to our scheduled departure. This left a very bad taste in our mouths. Very bad customer service and follow up. We traveled in a 36 foot, class A.

We came to say we were coming to tent camp for a month, they said fine. But then when they misplaced their own paperwork, they claimed we didnt pay for the 1st 2 nights and we paid cash. So, theres that. They never gave us a receipt and, God forbid, I'd ask for one. I guess I ASSUMED they were good hearted and honest. THEYRE NOT. SOOOOOOO, The people who actually built this place aren't allowed to.p stay in it anymore. Talk about discrimination and prejudice to THE fullest!! What an extremely sad sad disappointing experience. However, overall, they're rude, biased and overcharge. Go somewhere else. It's a pit stop, not a recreational camp. No one here, I mean, no one, not even the other campers are friendly. It sucks!!! I was in the mood for a moderate hike that…read moreshowed off all the Aspen foliage as we put September behind us and this trail was everything I set out for it to be and more. Once you make that left from US-64 you have about a 3 mile drive up a dirt road and from there you will see the parking lot to the right. The trailhead is easily marked making it almost impossible to miss (#664). The parking lot is fairly small and heavily trafficked so I'd recommend arriving earlier the better. 5 miles down and back. The first mile is mainly switchbacks but smoothes out the remainder of the hike. The aspens showed off their vibrant yellow colors which made the hike that much more enjoyable. The weather can change drastically especially when you make it to the top. It was raining and pretty windy when i got up there so a jacket is highly recommended. As well as good hiking boots as you experience different types of terrain, particularly at the top where it's mainly rocks. There are bathrooms at the trailhead parking lot which is extremely convenient. Especially for my hour drive trek back home to Colorado Springs. Give this hike a go!

It should probably get another five stars for being open year-round and through the deep snow months. Folks on the 25-mile trek appreciate all that it is.
