Adequately aesthetically pleasing from the outside, inside too. Like most places in big cities, making reservations for these kind of restaurants is best to avoid disappointment. The downstairs is more cafe style, for patisseries and coffee, and extremely cramped at that. The restaurant is located upstairs and they have access via lift too for wheelchairs and pushchairs, which the staff help you to use. The upstairs was nothing majorly special, the downstairs interior was more chic and had a lot more character. Now the best seating to get in this restaurant is the side seating with a lot more room and views of outside / not the cramped seating. Not sure why the tables and chairs were so close together? As for the food, we ordered brunch salmon poached eggs, and salmon bagel, amongst a few other things. We also got the cafe mocha latte in iced and hot versions. The coffee was nothing to write home about, but just know that I immediately had to get coffee from elsewhere as theirs was not cutting it. The poached egg meal itself was very tasty, enjoyed it. The menu selection is not large but it doesn't need to be. The dress code says smart casual but most people dress pretty casually. During my visit to DC I had the opportunity to explore and visit some nice restaurants. Café du Parc was one of those restaurants. On my way to the National Museum of art and other Museums in the area I decided to stop by for some breakfast. It's located in the Willard Intercontinental hotel and you don't have to have a room to eat there. Inside there's a opportunity to dine in but they also have an area where you can order coffee and beverages along with muffins and quick food to go. It was a bit chilly outside so I knew I was dining it. It didn't take long for me to be seated nor did it take long to be greeted and for me to order. I glanced over the breakfast menu since it's only one page and went with the buttermilk pancakes (3 pancakes) , country sausage (3 links), and home fries (small fried potatoes). It took maybe 5-7 minutes before the waiter was bringing me my order. Everything came out hot and fresh. The pancakes were big, fluffy, and topped with powdered sugar and fresh berries. The sausage links were good and you could tell they were fresh and recently cooked. The home fries were fresh and hot but plain which means you have to add your own salt and or pepper. I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast and the pancakes really got me full. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to dine in for breakfast in the downtown DC area. read more

I had lunch once I checked in with some friends. I honestly thought it would be your usual "hotel expected quality" meal - but I was happily mistaken. There is lovely outdoor seating in a park setting was so relaxing. The lunch was amazing! French bread buttered and grilled for their version of a turkey BLT accompanied by shoe string fries - sensational. The day I checked out I again ate there with friends and had breakfast only to be surprised again! The omelet was delicious and to have asparagus spears added to your plate was a very nice touch. Meeting a friend here for lunch during Restaurant Week. The place is part of the venerable Willard hotel but with direct success from the street. There is a small dining room on the second floor (counter service cafe on first) and a greenery enclosed and umbrella shaded outdoor section on the broad sidewalk (the other hotel restaurant, the Occidental Grill, has a much larger outdoor area on the other side). The dining room is a much better place to be on this hot day - rows of 2 tops (although relatively well spaced not my favorite layout) and a few very comfortable booths. There is an open kitchen and the dining room divided into two parts by the staircase. Windows looking out on trees and bright with natural light. Atmosphere is relaxed with a casual elegance and doesn't feel like a typical hotel restaurant. Sound level is good - possible for quiet conversations. The RW week menu is brief but excellent with good quality offerings. Even the bread basket came with an assortment (!) of yummy breads. We had the scallop salad (with three large seared scallops) and salmon entree with a most tasty sauce, and tried the creme brûlée and chocolate pot de creme desserts. Every single dish was delicious. The presentation was exquisite, portions just right, although if you are a light eater like me they'd leave you pretty stuffed. Glad to have finally tried this place (it took me a while as I'd always dismissed it as a mere "hotel restaurant" so it always got pushed to the back of the list) but am happy to report that I've found it to be a wonderful place suitable for just about all occasions. read more

Second, we sat out side to eat, and were later told we had to move to another table, because this table was for restaurant service. Okay, no problem. So we moved to another table, and then decided to order lunch. We could not get any one to help us. We finally got menus, but no one would bother to take our orders. So my friend went inside to get sandwiches from the counter. Third, the sandwiches were the caprese salad, and we both thought they were terrible. Very dry, no taste, tough chewy bread, a single leaf of lettuce and one very thin slice of tomato. The cheese was actually good, but I don't know how you can screw up such a simple sandwich. And that meal cost, with fries, over $40. The only thing nice is that fries were good, and you can sit outdoors in a pleasant atmosphere. Traveled into D.C. to have a cup of tea with Joe, but he was a little busy, so my niece and I decided to check out the pretty tree out in front of his 'White House', but security had the area around the tree shut down for about an hour (pretty sure Joe was meeting with the dude in red since it was 12/24). The first level is more of a cafe (pastries/coffee) with outdoor seating, and the second floor is more of a restaurant experience. Since we had a stroller and a toddler, we didn't want to take a chance on the second floor. We ordered mochas and croissants. She got the almond and I got the chocolate. I was pretty excited about my mocha because they have a machine dedicated to stirring up the hot chocolate (yummy). I wish I could say that it was a wonderful spot, but it just fell short on many levels. We sat down with our food and I had to get up and ask for plates, napkins, and utensils. The young lady in charge of this was doing absolutely nothing and could have offered plateware for us to use. The mocha was really lacking in both chocolate and espresso flavor... just a bit, meh! The croissants were dry and tasted like they were a day or two old. In my 'chocolate' croissant, there was a small amount of chocolate at the bottom of it - almost like a skinny tootsie roll. I loved the experience here. The setting is very polished and you can grab and go in the cafe at the first floor. We got a sit down brunch on the second floor and ordered two soups and a croque monsieur to split between the two. The French onion soup and lobster bisque was to die for. But, the broccolini, carrots, green beans, cauliflower, and asparagus were tasty. The beef Bourguignon was good, except it had chunks of what I think was pork belly. The paper menu seems like it should be easy to update but several dishes and wines by the glass shown were not actually available. I ordered sorbet for dessert and it took more than 20 minutes to arrive. It seems unlikely that they were making it to order. However, when it finally arrived it was a large portion: three scoops. The brunch plate came with eggs, biscuits, sausage, and potatoes. Potatoes were crunchy and eggs were cooked just right. The smoked salmon and beet salad was a bit off because the smoked salmon had too much of a mushy feel to it. Portion was done right though. The scrambled tofu was kind of like a salad served in a bowl. I wasn't a fan of it. On the other hand, there's complimentary bread of all sorts to start off your meal. We ordered the lobster bisque, escargot, flounder, beef bourguignon, mussels and steak frites. The mussels were definitely the best, and came with SO many mussels. The flounder was mediocre. Everything else was pretty tasty. The bread is not complimentary. The bathroom situation wasn't great -- only 3 single stalls, one for men, one for women, and one for unisex. When there's a line, it's painful. The bathrooms were also not clean (women's room pictured) and the men's room did not have paper towels or a functioning hand dryer. The experience was terrible and I wish I could forget it. We sat upstairs on a Sunday at 5pm. First time in DC. There were two or three other tables seated upstairs. Long story short: I made the wrong order of a Tuna Niçoise and asked to change it. Our waiter, said his name was Tony, was only attentive to the other two tables. He didn't ask us if things were ok, or give us more water. Just, bad service. However, the LOUSY move was this: When my mother asked for the bill, he returned within 20 seconds and shoves a card machine in her face to pay. He didn't print the check. He didn't give her a moment. Getting the check was the fastest move he made during our meal. Afterward, my mother said she didn't want to add the tip on the machine but it didn't give her that option. The lowest option was 18%. It was wholly unprofessional - making my mother "pay up" so abrupt. And, frankly, just a really lousy thing to do. After payment, the waiter said nothing, ignored us as we left, and was back talking to the other two tables. Maybe he treated them better because they had higher checks and he saw more $$$ potential?? Who knows. Overall, I expected more from a pretty well-known place. Picture it... A beautiful sunlit day, surrounded by great company, eating delicious food - with HORRIBLE service; that's Café du Parc. We all started out ordering drinks and appetizers, only to have to literally beg for water. I had the caesar salad and the Moscow mule. The salad was quite tasty, and even though I hate when the restaurant brings a salad with uncapped anchovies - I enjoyed it, work and all. The others in my party enjoyed the French onion soup - which was quite rich; and the crab cake, that was surprisingly full of crab and not too much filler. The entree's were quite tasty as well. I got the burger and fries. This is definitely one of the best burgers I've had in DC. I added the peppered bacon to really make it pop. There was another burger and a turkey club at the table. The club was probably the most impressive dish there - the bread was perfectly toasted and the smoked turkey was moist and tasty. The food being well prepared is where all things positive about my visit to Café du Parc - END. The staff is inattentive, and borderline incompetent. Having to ask for water, straws, or our waiter multiple times is really beneath what a restaurant at the Willard Hotel should be offering. I also count not help but notice the way that the waitstaff literally ran around and coordinated to keep the tables for the white patrons clean and clear of empty cups and plates, and how my friends and I ate an entire meal without anyone ever even asking if we were done or needed anything else.
