If I was just rating food, it would be a 4.5. The food was incredible. When we first arrived, it seemed very disorganized. I feel like the hostess must have unexpectedly been out because the folks managing seating and reservations seemed a little lost. This was our first time here and I was pretty concerned about what the rest of our experience would be. We got to our table and then sat there for 10 minutes without any kind of greeting. Following the disorganization of getting seated, we weren't sure what was happening and almost left. I'm so glad we stayed. Once our server greeted us, it was smooth the rest of the evening. We ordered drinks (Old Fashioned and wine), both were excellent. Someone brought delicious soft rolls with olive oil and balsamic vinegar-excellent. We stuck with tapas and the portions were bigger than expected. We had a whole lineup of items we wanted, but filled up after three. We ordered a charcuterie plate that was an off menu special. Iberico and a truffle manchego cheese and a rosemary manchego cheese served with toasted baguette and grapes. It was delicious! We also ordered the Gambas Al ajillo salsa Roja (shrimp in a red sauce) and the Pulpo à la gallega (octopus). The shrimp were incredible. I could have eaten the sauce with a spoon. Okay, I DID eat the sauce with a spoon and then asked for more bread to sop it up. The octopus was a surprise. My husband ordered it and I was prepared to try a small bite. It was fantastic. The octopus was nicely chewy without being rubbery at all. And it was served with potatoes in a thin sauce that tasted like olive oil and paprika and onion. So good. We looked at the desserts and my heart said yes while my full stomach said no. I almost ordered the crème brûlée cake to go, but decided to come back another day. Our server (Zack) was great! I really think something happened with the hostess because the rest of the evening was so smooth. Very interesting interior. We had previously been here came here for an anniversary dinner and really enjoyed the food, so we were excited to come back. My parents had made reservations for an extended family dinner to celebrate some family birthdays. We hadn't seen my brother and sister-in-law for over 3 months, so I was REALLY looking forward to spending the evening with them. The food was good, although my son was disappointed that they didn't have the full charcuterie board that we had ordered back in the summer. My steak was cooked perfectly, but the au gratin potatoes were incredibly unevenly salty. Like so salty in a few spots, I actually nearly gagged. After a few bites, I gave up and left them on the plate. While we were finishing our entrees, our server came and said that she had noticed we brought gifts and told us that we might want to start opening them because they had a party of 25 coming and needed our table. I thought that was rather rude because several of us were still eating. But those who had finished their entrees started opening gifts. And our server is trying to quickly clear the table and knocked over my husband's glass of Coke which spilled onto his lap. She brought out a wet towel for him to use to clean up, but instead of politely handing it to him, she threw it across the table for him to catch. Soon she came back with the check, and I asked her, "Don't we get to have dessert?" To which she replied, "You can if you know what you want or decide really quickly because we have that party of 25 coming." Look, we were not a huge party, but we had seven people and it was a BIRTHDAY celebration. We should be allowed to have enough time to have appetizers, entrees, AND dessert. We should also have time for presents and time to enjoy conversation without repeated reminders of another party who needs the table we are using. The rushed feeling, the spilled drinks, and the repeated reminders of this other party who was coming (because obviously they were more important and we had to get out of the restaurant quickly so they could have our table) ruined the mood and the celebration and left a really bad taste in my mouth. Especially when one of our party mentioned it to the manager and all he said was "I'm sorry, I hope you'll come again." Ha! Not likely. Not after being treated like that. I'm not going to give them an opportunity for a repeat performance of such crappy treatment. read more

This darling restaurant looks like it was plucked from a fairy garden somewhere and dropped in Holliday. The grounds are beautiful and the vibe is exquisite. I attended a private wine tasting event here and we had a room toward the back the restaurant dedicated to the group. The servers were attentive and careful to not interrupt the educational moments, although they were very excited to move out plates before we were finished. I enjoyed the pollo marsala and am already craving that dish again. The combination of flavors and textures was perfection and I can't wait to go back and get it again. read more

Pro tip: if you find that you're here but you haven't ordered paella (since you need to order ahead of time because it takes awhile to make) just order the Fidegua. My friend and I had a pleasure of dining there for the second time. It exceeded my expectations. The restaurant busy on a Saturday night, but we were still attended to well by our server Briza, a young college student working on her way through college. Diego served our bottle of Spanish wine and was a very knowledgeable sommelier. For the appetizers, we had the pulpo and queso and jamón Serrano. Both very good especially the pulpo. For an entrée, I had a very large serving of freshly caught Atlantic salmon with vegetables. Delicious. My friend had the lobster bisque. You will have a nice evening out at Madrid. It won't be your best meal ever, but the ambiance and service are very, very good. It is warm, inviting and chic elegant from the front door to the dining are. Great for a nigjt out with friends or a date nigjt both. The service was very good, particularly Diego, who completely knew every wine and entre, pairings, and was sensitive to price. The food was the only let down. We had dates (the best of the tapas), sprouts that were good but not great, and a light for $22 charcuterie. My wife and I had the strip which was basically flattop cooked and presented with good potato's. With just a little more flavor and attention to presentation, it would have been worth the $46. I had a lobster bisque with a shrimp and potato's in it. When I asked where the lobster was our server said it was flavored in the bisque. The gravy-like bisque. A big miss. The salmon was excellent and the scallops were tasty and a heavy dish. With just a few enhancements from the kitchen, Madrid could be a consistent 5 stars. It just wasn't quite there. Food was great, but the service was too slow for comfort. I went here during lunch; I even made a reservation. When I arrived, there were lots of empty tables but it took about 10 minutes to seat me. Took a while to finally get my order taken, then another while for my food to come out. I got the Mediterranean Salad with salmon and subbed out the dressing for the orange chocolate vinaigrette. The salad was filled with fresh fruit, which was amazing. The salmon was kind of bland. Also, I ordered the cup of their famous chicken soup - it was SOOO YUMMY! Very flavorful and definitely not like any other chicken noodle soup I've tasted. I highly recommend it. The bacci bread roll it came with was cold and dry. The ambiance was nice. It definitely had a European feel, but floors were kinda dirty. If I ever do return, I need to ensure that I have plenty of time in case the service is slow again. read more

This was by far the worst dining experience I've ever had. I was a server for 10+ years and I consider myself VERY understanding and gracious, especially on a busy holiday night. But this was a 0/10 experience and I am so disappointed. The restaurant is BEAUTIFUL, but every single staff member seemed so inexperienced, frazzled, and rushed, yet somehow it was the slowest service I've ever experienced. We had reservations for Valentine's Day at 8:45. We were seated, then sat with no greeting, no water, no nothing until almost 9:30. Our waitress finally came by and took our drink order. TEN minutes later we received waters and bread (with no butter or oil/vinegar), but not the drink I ordered. She finally brought my drink about 10 minutes later, and THEN took our food order. By this time we had been at the restaurant for a full hour, which is insane. It was a PRETTY pricy prefixed holiday menu, which we were not expecting, but just rolled with it. For the tapas course, my husband's brussel sprouts were tasty, but my calamari was very bland and was nothing special. The caprese salad was... SO SAD. The tomatoes had no color or flavor, and there was barely a sprinkle of super wilted basil on top. We never received our sorbet palette cleanser course. Our waters sat empty for quite some time, and were not refilled when our entrees were dropped off, but they dropped our plates off and rushed away too fast to even ask for more water. My husband got the ossobuco for his entree, which was a generous portion and decent, but not phenomenal. I ordered the lobster tail which came with a laughably small portion of the most bland mashed potatoes I've ever tasted (boxed mashed potatoes probably would have tasted better), 2 shrimp, and 3 spears of asparagus.... Nothing was seasoned or even salted, and my lobster was overcooked and rubbery. Not one person stopped by to check on us or even ask "how is everything tasting?" Or "can I get you another drink?" The only time we saw staff was when they hurriedly bussed our plates or dropped off our next course and bolted away. For $119 a person, this was a complete rip off. The food quality and service was SO BAD. Everyone was nice, but no one seemed to know how to work in a restaurant. We finally got a different server's attention (thank you Delaney. She was the only staff member who seemed calm, collected and professional. I wish she would have been our server.) and asked for more water, our check, and our desserts to go because we had been there for over 2 hours already, and couldn't stand sitting around any longer. I was SO excited to try this place, but unfortunately we will not be back. read more

Yummy! This place is classy! You can totally dress up and come bougie and extra. The food is so yummy! I think the serving size was just right as I ate the whole thing but didn't feel sickly full or leftover hungry. The eggs were super runny which they didn't ask about my preference. So if you hate runny eggs be sure to say something as they may not ask. Our waiter was so nice, however my drink wasn't always full which is always one of my biggest bothers at restaurants. I like this place cause it feels super classy but doesn't break the bank. It's not cheap like dennys tho but it is still under $20 a plate if you want it to be. More expensive options are also available. Bathrooms were clean. Plenty of parking. There was no host at the front of the restaurant. I had to wait 5-10 min before a server saw me and took the time to help seat me. That was kinda weird but it's such a small intimate restaurant it might just run that way I guess. We had a wonderful experience at Café Madrid for my birthday brunch. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was excellent, and the food was truly impeccable. We ordered the croquetas con pollo, the eggs Benedict with chorizo, and an order of French toast -- all beautifully prepared with rich, well-developed flavors and great texture. Had a lovely brunch with friends. The hostess was lovely. Great service and great food. The coffee was wonderful as was the hot chocolate. They were unfortunately out of my go to Mediterranean Salad so I opted for the Eggs Benedict. One of the best hollandaise sauces in town. The crepes were perfect. The fruit added a perfect balance to the Nutella. This is one of our favorite brunch and lunch places. I have to say the most difficult part of coming to this restaurant for us is deciding what to get because we love everything on this menu. All of our friends that we have taken here for brunch have absolutely loved it as well. I'm very excited to see their decorations for the Holiday season. I have yet to have something on the menu that I have not liked. Excited to return for lunch soon so I can get my Mediterranean salad. I feel horrible for posting this review but we just finished our dinner that we spent close to 300.00 for. We make this our annual Christmas dinner with our daughters and we decided after this experience that this will be the last time we come here for this tradition. First off, we made a reservation for 530 a week ago for 4 of us. We get to the restaurant, and they took a while to find the reservation. When they finally found it, they took us to the 4 top table right next to the kitchen. The booths were empty. To clarify, the booths and table were in the same room. So I asked if we could sit in one of the empty booths. You would think I had just asked for a gold fork. They made us feel embarrassed for asking this question. They finally sat us at a booth that was empty, all the other booths were empty too except for the couple who were sat after us (not part of a private party). Then the hostess came by and said we needed to be out by 7pm. Food was good. Server was fine. We will not be coming here again for Christmas. Just some advice, if you make a reservation for around Christmas, request a booth and keep in mind you only have 90 minutes to enjoy your 300. dinner. Cafe Madrid doesn't care about your experience they just want the money. I would have been treated way better somewhere else. So embarrassing! Save yourself the embarrassment and go somewhere else. Cafe Madrid responded back to my google review that the booths were in a private room that was reserved for 7:15. Which is a big, humongous lie. The table we were originally sat at was in the same exact room as the booths so what they are saying doesn't add up. Nothing like being disrespected then gaslit. Also, there was a couple that was sat behind us in the booths about 15 minutes after us (they were not part of a huge private party). Don't worry about trying to make any room for my friends or family again for Christmas. We will not be coming back. Next time, try and resolve things better for your customers. Stop using excuses and being defensive. I appreciate your time. read more

The ladies and I have started a monthly ish night out. Cafe Madrid was our pick this month. Honestly it's super welcoming. It's in an home that is large and has been converted. The ambiance feels just like you are in a cozy living room. We ordered the paella ahead of time and had one seafood and one meat. It was good but honestly we loved all the tapas more. We tried the sausage in the fig sauce. The shrimp wrapped in bacon, Meatballs and don't sleep on those Brussels- they were so crispy! Also we were able to bring our own wine so that was nice. Ebony was our server and she was fantastic! Very accommodating, knowledgeable and honestly we just took her recommendations on what tapas to add with our paella. Overall great experience. read more

The food was good but experience was totally spoiled by the overly loud live music. To be fair, I was warned that there would be live music when I made the reservation, so I asked for a table furthest from the music, but it was still so loud that we couldn't talk. The musician was good, but way too loud, especially when he switched to karaoke mode, singing along to very loud recorded music. Also, the service was not good. The server was not friendly and they started clearing the table before everyone was finished. And the place wasn't even busy so they didn't need to get rid of us! Server was pleasant but wasn't very familiar with the menu. Asked for various recommendations or descriptions and responses were like I'd love to try it sometime to just pointing to the most expensive alternate with no validation. Waited about 30 min for drinks. In and of itself can be explainable, but there weren't a ton of people in the restaurant. Worse, the owner was one table away chatting with some regulars. Had the tortilla espanola app. Was pretty good. Very heavy. Had a blackened salmon entree with asparagus and saffron rice. Cafe Madrid is a fabulous place for a family gathering to celebrate a graduation. We were served an amazing array of dishes. The food was excellent from presentation to flavor. The service was warm ,friendly and efficient. Every waitress went out of their way to make us feel well attended. We loved it so much we stayed well past closing time. Another great find! I visited this attractive and quaint (the good kind of "quaint") restaurant in a historic building. My server, Nicole, made me feel welcome, had a good sense of when to check in, and was a pleasure to deal with. I don't often find healthy AND tasty vegetarian food, so I was pleased when the Vegetarian Fidegua was as delectable as described. I don't recall all the veggies, but there were mushrooms, grilled asparagus, artichoke hearts, and some others mixed in a base of noodles. The dish was served in a hot pan on a trivet, and the portion size was generous enough to enable me to bring some back for dinner. When finished, I walked throughout and noticed two more dining rooms, including a private dining space and a bar area. Each room was inviting, attractive, and relaxing. One more way this restaurant sets itself apart is with its delicious desert menu, which includes: - Fresh Strawberries in a Green Peppercorn Marinade served with Vanilla Ice Cream - Layers of house-made Toffee, Strawberries, Yogurt, and Strawberry Meringue - Chocolate Mousse topped with Mandarin Meringue - Ladyfingers soaked with Espresso and Rum, covered with Mascarpone cheese and Chocolate - Lemon Mousse topped with walnuts and honey, and - Egg Custard with Carmalized Sugar In the interest of time I passed on dessert, but as a former CA Governator said, "I'll be back." read more

My little brother's wife is from Barcelona and we had a couple for buy one get 1/2 off main meal. With a 24 hours notice we ordered the Paella and many appetizers. Some things amazing some things horrible. We waited and waited for the Paella to come out. We were full from the appetizers and mains when it was brought out. To our dismay, it was rather bland and couldn't believe it took so long to make to be lacking in flavor. Service started out awesome in the beginning and then was nonexistent. My favorites were the appetizers, and the desserts (pictured) the rest was meh. I like the Spanish restaurant in Park City quite a bit better and the tapa restaurants in Vegas much better. Great ambiance and decor, the front entry way was impressive. Not sure I would go back unless we had the appetizers and desserts. This was really expensive for the quality received. read more

Wow! Flavor, considerate and valuable recommendations, gorgeous decor and aesthetics, we were blown away by everything! Croquette starters came out very quickly, sangria and house wine were delicious, and the house special was an incredible beef dish that's sadly going off menu tomorrow, but it sounds like there's going to be an awesome pork chop special for a while. Thoughtful touches: sorbet palate cleansers, freshly baked and scored bread rolls coupled with tasty olive oil and vinegar, and the outside section has a large fountain and vines covered in grapes and string beans. Easily one of the best dining experiences I have had, especially in Salt Lake City. I went on a date here and it was a Friday night, we had a reservation and it was nice because everyone wanted to sit outside in the nice weather so we got all of the inside to ourselves which was really nice. This is an old home that was made into Cafe Madrid which is one of the only authentic Spanish restaurants that is around the area. There is another one I haven't tried that's called Mar-Muntaya I believe and that one is on the sixth floor of the Hyatt House hotel downtown. We got the "español omelette" not sure if that's exactly what it was called but it's a Spanish dish made out of potatoes, onion, and eggs. Really yummy. We also got bacon wrapped shrimp. If you want to get the authentic paella you have to order it an hour ahead of time. They do have a similar dish you can get it meat or seafood style so we opted for the seafood style dish and it was amazing. Wonderful dining experience and will for sure be back here. We started off with wine and bread. Both delicious no problems there. For our tapas we ordered paella, charcuterie and stuffed peppers. Paella: decently good! Flavor was good, not very much seafood at all. 2 mussels, 1 shrimp, and a few pieces of calamari. Somewhat understandable for a tapas portion but felt like we were just eating rice. Charcuterie: We really enjoyed this. We liked the two choices of meat. Stuffed peppers: This was the first miss, I found this dish on their online menu, said to be a pepper stuffed with goat cheese and topped with caramelized onion and balsamic glaze. What we got resembled scrambled eggs and Campbell tomato soup.. when we asked the waiter, he informed us that management had changed it to a fish stuffed pepper and never updated their menu? This was taken off our bill though which we appreciated! We decided to split an entree, New York strip with chimichuri, au gratin potatos and mixed vegetables. Sounds simple? This was one of the worst dishes I've had at a restaurant in a long time. The steak was incredibly chewy, the whole table shook as we sawed through it. Absolutely no seasoning on it either. The potato's and veggies were also lacking any seasoning at all, and the chimichuri did not taste fresh. Overall for $110 before tip we won't be back. read more

Such a cute spot! Located on its own in a little cottage, it does give Spanish vibes. I actually went twice a few days apart and the food both times were really good but the quality was off the second time around. I ordered the same meal on the second visit and the food was slightly different than the first. I think they changed the menu or something because even the menus didn't match - my husband had one version and I had an older version. Service was nice, friendly, attentive.
