First Visit - Beautiful Space with Some Growing Pains We stopped in to try this new upscale restaurant and bar in downtown Salt Lake City and overall had a mixed but hopeful first impression. It's been a few different spots in the last few years so we were very excited to see this c The space itself is beautifully designed. The tables, finishes, and overall aesthetic feel very upscale and thoughtfully done. The service was also spot on--friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which definitely made the experience better. We ordered the dumplings ($16 for 6). Unfortunately they came out undercooked and cold, which was disappointing, because the flavor was actually really good. If they had been cooked properly, they could easily be a standout dish. We also tried the Sakura Rosé Spritz sparkling sake by Tsuki Sake. It was light and floral, but just okay for my taste--I personally prefer a non-sparkling, fruitier sake. For the price point, what arrived at the table felt a little underwhelming. That said, they're brand new and clearly still working out the kinks, so I expect things will improve as they settle in. What I'm really excited to come back for is the speakeasy in the back and to try more from their Italian side of the menu. They also serve late-night pizza until midnight, which could be an awesome option if you're out late in SLC and want something good to eat. Overall: great atmosphere, excellent service, and lots of potential. I'm looking forward to coming back in the evening to see how it evolves.

Ambiance...As I'd call it.. the "Gossip room"!

10/10 the service and food was amazing! The ambiance was also amazing! We're definitely going again!

When you arrive you can choose to sit on the Italian side (front) or Japanese side (they called it a speakeasy, the back). Both are well decorated with date night lighting. The staff is friendly and helpful. I wasn't feeling so amazing this night so we only got three things. Sea perch was heavy on the truffle oil, not really my thing but it was fine. Massaman shrimp was very salty but the flavor of the coconut curry and the quality of the shrimp lifted its potential. I'd definitely give it another shot in the future. The tuna tataki was light and cooked just right, seared all the way around and tender inside. The avocado puree was a nice touch that made it a bit creamy. I'm looking forward to trying more next time!

We loved the vibe at Gossip Kitchen. Elegant atmosphere from front of the house dining to the speakeasy in back. Everything we ordered was honestly outstanding; taste, quality, and presentation. We got exceptional service from both the manager (Hannah) and our server (Bella). Even the cocktails were great! Highly recommend!

    Bruschetta

Gossip Kitchen was a great experience for our group of 10. We were a little worried about spacing since it looks small and intimate, but reservations were easy and they accommodated us comfortably- yes they accommodate kids on the front side but not the speakeasy side. Our server was attentive, kind, and the food came out quickly. The complimentary bruschetta was just okay, but the smoked salmon and tagliatelle porcini were amazing. Great service, cozy ambiance, and delicious food overall! Bruschetta: mid Burrata: Good. Refreshing Fettuccine Bolognese: Good. Fresh ingredients. Good texture to the noodles. Simple. Not amazing. Tagliatelle porcini. Amazing. Good flavor. Not too mushroom. Not too truffle. Salmon Wagyu steak. Worth the price. Salmon dish smoked: They way they do the smoke is amazing! 100 on point.

When I went, there was only around one other customer but all staff seemed to be engaged and well into their work. Even the feel of the place was very fitting to the aesthetic, not cluttered at all! Even the bathroom was clean and beautifully designed. An overall amazing experience! Would visit again.

It's a very unique, strong garlic flavor with a thick broth. However, in my second visit, I became acquainted with the Spicy Kani Miso ramen... And holy *smokes,* is that a delicious ramen. The broth is deliciously miso and umami, with a lowkey seafood flavor, as though they cooked the crab in the broth. It was topped with a serving of shredded snow crab and the most tender, melt-in-your-mouth chashu pork slice. I savored every bit of this bowl, and even drank all the broth!! The appetizers were good, the best bang for your buck being the spicy karaage--it has a good kick, crispy fry without being greasy, and unique spicy flavor. Everything else we tried (garlic edamame, takoyaki, and enoki chips) was good, but nothing special. Service was incredibly speedy and very friendly, and you can tell that the owners put a lot of thought into the restaurant's design to make it feel like a genuine Japanese ramen shop with a modern twist. Do note that this restaurant is a bit pricy, but each bowl is thoughtfully crafted and the ingredients they use are the real deal. If you like ramen of a higher standard, especially when so many restaurants these days use generic ramen soup base with premade noodles and frozen appetizers, it's 100% worth the cost. I think my only complaint is that they boast about using locally-sourced ingredients, but nothing on their menu really sounds local (such as enoki, snow crab, wagyu beef, etc.). Also note that if you're driving, the nearest parking garage is often crowded, but the restaurant offers parking validation.

It took literally TWO MINUTES from when we ordered to getting our whipped tofu, and the other dishes were also a short wait, which I was not expecting with how busy they were!! - They refilled our water, gave us updates on when our food would come out, and had really great service overall! The vibes - I loved sitting at the bar, with the warm wood, green tile backing, view into the kitchen, and nice music playing in the background.

We Googled this place and said let's give it a try. We walked in and to note we are not Caucasian. There were a few people people at the bar and ooh the looks we received as why are they here. However, the girl at the counter was pleasant to us when we walked in. We decided to sit inside since no one was at the tables and they were a few people outside, not buy at all and it was around 8:30pm We sat down the waitress, Asian lady was not rude but not friendly. No greeting, asked if we wanted water. She got the water, placed it down a little hard and that was that. We looked at each other and said oh lord, here we go. We sat for about 20 minutes before our order was taken. I mentioned it was not busy. Once we ordered it had taken another 20-25 to get our food and you CA. See below what we ordered it shouldn't have taken that long. Anywho, we received our food, then you can feel the Asian lady energy started to change for the better. She talked to us and was engaging. However, interesting experience. We ordered the following: Chicken Karaage - 5/5: This was good and the sauce that came along with it was good. I needed more for the amount of chicken that was given. Miss soup 5/5: it was good and not salty, just enough flavor. Salad 3/5: the salad was good, I should have ordered the salad dressing on the side, it was bit much on the salad. Shrimp tempura maki roll 5/5: fresh and good. Nice size cuts not too big or small. Veggie Maki roll 5/5: fresh and good. I would return if ever back in Utah.

Update 2 This…read more"James" started attacking me via private message. This is absurd. Update 1 It's incredible to see this James L, the "employee," jump out and lie. I went to the door to your kitchen and asked for help. No yelling or screaming. Once you got a bad review, you started attacking your customer. What a brilliant tactic! Your act makes you a total clown. Original Post My friend and I tried this place a few nights ago. The entire experience can be summarized in one sentence. The teppanyaki* chef was professional and friendly. The boss's service attitude was a deal breaker. First, some context. We came for all-you-can-eat, but we were not trying to stuff ourselves or eat until we were uncomfortable. We just wanted a good meal with a good experience. In a typical teppanyaki meal, meat and vegetables are served first, and fried rice or noodles are served at the end. At this restaurant, they began with fried rice and noodles immediately. It was apparent they were trying to fill people up early. Honestly, this kind of tactic is easy to spot, but since we were not planning to overeat anyway, we let it slide. You could also tell the process was carefully designed. The first round was cooked fresh in front of you, which felt engaging and fun. After that, if you wanted to order more, everything had to be made in the back of the house and brought out later. This was clearly stated on the menu, so, from a rule-based perspective, it was acceptable, but from an experiential perspective, the live-cooking element diminished noticeably. To be fair, the chef during the first round was great. He was friendly and engaging, interacting with guests throughout the cooking process. The atmosphere at that point was pleasant. Once that first round was over, the experience quickly went downhill. My friend and I ordered another round of beef and shrimp to share. We ultimately waited half an hour. We repeatedly asked, and the only response we received was "almost ready." The problem was that my friend needed to catch a flight after dinner, so time was tight. I eventually went to the kitchen and asked what was going on. I was told by a boss-looking guy very seriously that grilling takes more time if you want it to taste good. That explanation made no sense, since the teppanyaki had been cooked earlier in just a few minutes. After more than thirty minutes, the food finally arrived. It was a tiny plate, about six or seven slices of beef and six or seven pieces of chicken. I did not mind the portion size. Smaller portions are better than wasting food. But things got worse. We had ordered beef and shrimp. What arrived was chicken and beef. Even worse, the meat was lukewarm, clearly not freshly cooked. After we pointed this out to the server, less than a minute later, a freshly cooked plate of shrimp was brought out. The color and temperature made it obvious it was just made, which only confirmed that the earlier beef had been prepared in advance and was sitting around. I asked to speak with the owner or boss. The staff told me the person I had spoken to in the back kitchen earlier was the boss. When he came out, he did not look at us directly, spoke while turned to the side, and never offered an apology. He repeatedly said, "We don't know what to do." At that point, this was no longer about the food. It was about basic service attitude and basic respect. I fully understand that running a restaurant is hard. Being busy, making mistakes, or having process issues are all understandable. But when a customer gives serious feedback, and the response is dismissive, indifferent, and shows no remorse, that is not a simple mistake. It implies that the customer does not matter. *One last note. Strictly speaking, this place is not hibachi but teppanyaki. The name does not matter, nor does the format. In the service industry, what truly matters is sincerity and basic respect for customers.

We came for the Valentine's experience and tried almost everything on the menu (the only things we didn't get were the roasted cauliflower salad and the mushroom truffle pasta). Every single dish we had was incredible. The Wagyu Gyoza were perfectly seared and packed with flavor. The Maguro Crudo was beautifully done with just the right amount of heat and sweetness from the blueberry-habanero. For the shareable course, the crispy rice Hanabi was unreal...spicy tuna, jalapeño, avo, that crisp texture...so good. We had a reservation for 4 at 7 PM, and we weren't sat until 7:34. Then I got a drink so bad we sent it back. Music was so loud we couldn't talk to each other at the table. I was told to try the dessert but after the full dining experience we decided to cut our losses and leave.
