A beautiful restaurant that we frequented for Christmas Eve. This restaurant is so cozy, and the ownership and staff and so friendly! I know they really care about their guests. For the holiday, they served a set menu, which gave us a few options for four courses, including a tapa. I was more than pleased with the quality of all the options I chose. However, for the price, the desserts were rather small sized. We have come here for years, and the price rose significantly this year, something we will consider again in the future. Had a great tapas dinner today with my gf. They have Tapas Tuesdays with everything under tapas menu 50% off! This venue kind of looks like an old house that was converted to a restaurant but that brings very warm and welcoming atmosphere with some outdoor seatings as well. Decors are very proper and bring you to the Western Europe. There were a lot of personal touches and I thought were nice. Service was excellent. We had to wait a few min before getting seated but once we were seated, our server Cole provided us with a 5 star service. It was a pleasant experience to wine and dine at cafe madrid. Food was also great - the Gambas con bacon (bacon wrapped shrimp) was perhaps overcooked and the shrimp was too tough but I loved the brussel sprouts and bacon wrapped dates. Calamari was very crunchy, but size of each ring was a bit small. Since many of tapas have sweet flavors, I recommend getting a dry wine to pair with them. My sister and her husband have told me before that they consider this restaurant to be one of the best that they have ever visited. They sure did not disappoint. Top notch service, wonderful food (dates are a center point of many of the tapas), and great dessert (chocolate mousse with orange meringue is not to be missed). We made a meal out of the bread, lobster bisque, and sharing several of the tapas. Every bite was a wonderful sensation to itself. We will be back again. Definitely worth going back to. My wife and I were celebrating our Anniversary (of more than 30 years I'll say) and they took excellent care of us. The waitress was very attentive and helpful in deciding what we wanted for the entree. The drinks were also delicious and the atmosphere was pleasant. This was for diner and we learned they are also open for lunch as well. It's a small restaurant and reservations should be considered especially during holiday events such as Valentine day (for example). Highly recommend Café Madrid! We ordered a wide range of dishes, and everything was delicious. Crowd favorites included the sangria, Brussels sprouts, calamari, and crème brûlée cake. I just moved here and was looking for a great tapas restaurant. Cafe Madrid more than delivered. We made a reservation for two at 7, there was plenty of availability but when we got there the restaurant was busy and we waited about 5 minutes before being seated. Our server Diego was amazing and gave us dishes that would pair with our wine selection, as well as interesting information about the winery itself. We got 4 tapas and paella, all which were fantastic. The paella says it serves 2, but definitely would be enough for 4. For dessert, Diego even brought us some chocolate mousse on, the house, alongside our strawberry merengue and sherry, as it is his favorite thing to eat with the Don PX that we had. We were in Salt Lake visiting friends and happened to find this gem. The building is beautiful with a gorgeous little patio, perfect for a warm evening. The staff were all very attentive, we were greeted and seated quickly even though we didn't have a reservation. Our waitress Nicole was exceptional, she was friendly and made great suggestions for pairings from the tapas options. We chose small plates which were good portions for sharing, the Tortilla Espanola was delicious and the Butifarritas Con Brevas with the black mission fig sauce was as well. Our only complaint is that we don't have Cafe Madrid where we live in California. We will be back when in the SLC area and highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic Spanish food. read more

Last night we were seated just a few minutes after checking in. They sat us at a very busy table so we requested to go to a more private table by the windows. There were several empty tables available. They tried to seat another couple at the crappy table; they also moved to a quieter table. Hello?! It's a romantic day for couples. Give us as much privacy as possible. Our server Ebony was great. Very friendly and helpful. We were only served one hot, fresh, delicious hard sourdough roll with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. They have four-course meals for Valentine's with several choices for appetizers, entrees and desserts (their yummy strawberry mixed greens house salad was served after appetizers). I chose a cheese plate with pears, walnuts and raisins. My husband ordered calamari. I had the best chicken Madeira I've ever eaten with mashed potatoes, mushrooms and thinly sliced onions. My man loved their blackened salmon. We had chocolate mousse and creme brûlée cakes with whipped cream and sliced strawberries for dessert. Ebony boxed leftovers and gave me a beautiful long-stemmed red rose and chocolate mints. The food was superb. Even though it was a busy night, we didn't feel rushed. My husband calls it the party dropping restaurant because it means he's getting lucky that night. We ordered lots of items and our waitress was perfect in timing all our dishes so we were not overwhelmed. The food was hot, and flavorful. My favorite was the creamy sauce in the shrimp gambos - I don't eat bacon and they accommodated with ease. All together it cost $110 for 3 of us for a fun night out. Would definitely return. 5 stars for the ambience 2nd visit - I wanted to take my mother out to fun lunch date. After some Christmas shopping we walked into Cafe Madrid close to 2:30pm - they have a separate less ornate side for lunch. I asked the host if she would seat us on the dinner side because I knew my mom would love the decor. The host was extremely accommodating and let us enjoy our lunch while they finished setting up the dinner side tables. We enjoyed delicious sangria. The tortilla espanelo is a very yummy egg custard cheese pepper pie with white cream drizzled. We had fresh capresse salad with soft creamy buffalo mozzarella and my favorite shrimp in white sauce served in a hot skillet with bread. Wonderful food and excellent service! The ambience is wonderful with beautiful art throughout the restaurant, It truly does create a warm welcoming atmosphere to enjoy! My mom got the beef tenderloins and... those were out of this world! We also tried the jamón serrano and cheese plate and this was just like you'll find in Spain. The rolls were delicious, the free chocolate mousse I got for my birthday was delicious, as was the crème brûlée cake - even though I was sad they didn't have regular crème brûlée - no stars shall suffer for this. Café Madrid, It appears you have done it again; you have left 2 people feeling compelled to write you a 5-star review. How DO you do it?! Before one enters the restaurant, one knows they are about to be treated with a grand time. The dim white roof-trim lighting and the reasonably sized parking area made the initial experience welcoming and warm; not to mention the heavy metal doors that made me feel masculine opening them for mi lady. When upon entering, one is delighted with elegant décor from origins that appear to be far from Utah, paintings that make one ponder, and a check in table command desk that is worthy of a fine dining establishment. As we were taken to our seats, we were delighted to have been selected to sit at a cozy booth with velvet lined benches and a pillow (which I'm not going to lie, tempted me towards a post meal nap after eating my meal). Being our first time to Café Madrid, we were graciously oriented and guided regarding the menu by our competent server Sassi. We ended up ordering three tapas and one entrée (which I am still feeling full the following day as I sit to write this review). We were initially greeted with delicious rolls, perfectly baked, golden crusted, with a fluffy, glutenous center. Each bite dipped with freshly poured olive oil from Italy and Balsamic Vinaigrette. Sassi quicky perceived that my date and I needed another roll to which she responded quickly by offering another helping of the glutenous treasures. Next, our order of Plato de Quesos arrived. Displayed on its own charcuterie board, we were delighted with an assortment of flavors. A toasted baguette, with samples of brie and manchego cheese, grapes, walnuts, raisins, and this yellow/orange jelly like substance that melted in one's mouth with a delightful fruity flavor. We were soon delivered our next tapa, albondigas caseras. Who doesn't love a good meatball? Well, I can think of a few people, I'm not sure why I asked that question. The answer certainly is that my date and I love a good meatball. We both described the meatballs as...light. I don't know how else to explain it, but I will try. The ball is divinely packed, as if it was prepared in a cloud, the meatball keeping its form but upon entering the mouth, opens into a delightful range of flavors, not heavy, not dense, just perfect. A well-formed meatball topped with parmesan cheese and parsley and a sauce worth getting another roll for dipping. The pace in which the tapas were delivered was expertly done, thank you Sissi. At two tapas, we were beginning to feel slightly full, but how could we resist diving into the next tapa, seafood paella de España, a dish so oriented to Spain, that it was featured on a recent Netflix cooking competition show, The Final Table. If you haven't seen it, you must watch it! (Note: if you want the full Paella dish with socarrat, please call ahead like we didn't do; which is the recommended practice by the restaurant so the chef commence creating your Paella before you arrive). The Paella was delightful to try. Certainly, packed with flavor, so much flavor it is hard to distinguish the ingredients in your mind with each bite. There were ample quantities of shrimp, clam, mussel, and squid. I can only imagine that for a moment we were transported to Spain, tasting flavors from a country we can only hope to visit one day. At this point, we were delightfully surprised when Sassi cleared our table and brought us a "palate cleanser". A sorbet. Fresh. Sweet. Unexpected. Fruity, maybe raspberry or strawberry. We were now ready to dine upon our entrée, pechuga de pato con manzanas en salsa de naranja - grilled duck with apples and an orange glaze. We were enchanted with General Manager Diego who brought our entrée to the table. Before leaving, he asked a peculiar question, "May I help by serving your plates?" My date and I exchanged glances. Is this common practice? Or did he realize we were not familiar with fine dining etiquette and felt compelled to help us have a more elevated experience? We do not know, but we thank Diego for honoring us with his time as he perfectly plated our shared entrée onto our individual plates. Let me start w the end first, the Flan is made in-house and is an absolute must. We had all tapas- The butifarritas con Brevas- an authentic tasty Catalan sausage in fig sauce. Croquetas de pollo, crunchy shell w soft middle filling, just like we had in Barcelona. The Albondigas Caseras- a delicious homemade meatballs that was tender but slightly sweet taste that I didn't prefer. The Tortilla Espanola-an egg/potato frittata, very authentic and filling, so just get 2 if your appetite isn't huge. Gambia's con bacon- can't go wrong w shrimp wrapped in bacon!. I had the very tasty sangria and also had Calimocho/Kalimotxo- the best Basque invention ever, coke + red wine!.. it could have used a little more coke though. Many visits, but a new review, since this is the first time I experienced their Paella. Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful seafood with beef and an exceptional chorizo in a perfectly seasoned rice. Designated for "two" the serving platter offered much more than we could possibly finish Paired it with an excellent Spanish red they recommended, and it was a wonderful meal. Couple of notes. The paella must be ordered in advance through their website. And you have the option of seafood, meat, or a combination. We did the combination and were very happy. Great service as well. read more

We traveled to Salt Lake City for our Son's wedding, we are new to the area, and found Cafe Madrid almost by accident. I contacted Todd (Owner) and asked if they did wedding rehearsal dinners; he confirmed that they do, and put us on their Calendar for our event. Many, Many things changed as we got closer to the event, but the one constant was Todd and Cafe Madrid. The Dinner, Atmosphere, the Staff; we're in a word, simply Perfect!! We had a fabulous evening and several people who live in the area asked us "How did you find this amazing Restaurant?" It was a complete home run, we would not hesitate to recommend or do it again.
