I've been here a couple times and boy does it take foreverrrrrrr to get your order. First time I showed up and ordered there and it took about 30 minutes to get just two teas. Second time I ordered ahead of time just to avoid waiting so long! and guess what, I asked why they took so long and they replied that we have to 1. Order through the phone. 2. Then check in to let them know we have arrived. 3. Once you have checked in then they know you are there and present so then they can go ahead and make it. 4. Then once again you wait another 30 minutes. Ordering ahead of time is pointless. I tried giving this place a second chance but they failed me. I will not be going back again. read more

All of my friends had been posting photos from their Cafe 86 experience and I finally had the opportunity to try them out for myself. At this time, you had to order in advance through their website and pick up. Super easy to do, getting their was so hard, Siri had me drive into the parking lot but don't just stay on the road Cafe 86 is on the street side and there's parking the front. I ordered an ube leche flan cupcake, ube crack cheese and a regular Halo Halo (I actually wanted the upside down halo-halo but oh well). I'm sure most people know what Halo-Halo is, Mix-Mix in Tagalog mixing coconut jellies, boba (usually red beans or mung beans) flan and ice cream in some shaved ice. Cafe 86 gives it a twist by adding frosted flakes, added some fun textures at first then it got soggy, not a fan of that, next time I'll ask them to omit that. The leche flan on both the cupcake and the Halo-Halo are my favorite so delicious, they should have a larger version for order. I really like the cheesecake that was super tasty definitely would get that again and try their ube truffles. If you have a sweet tooth and love ube you would love Cafe 86 but I feel like they can decrease the sweetness by just a touch. read more

I love this local spot for our milk tea / boba cravings! They also have a variety of awesome Ube desserts/drinkswhich is their signature ingredient! My go to drink is the Tiger Milk tea with boba. Half thai iced tea and regular milk tea. Great combo and not too sweet. I also mix it up a bit and get the Jasmine Calamansi iced tea with Aloe. A cool and refreshing drink. They also make milkshakes, loose lead teas, expressos and lattes. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere when they were open, prior to Covid19. *less one star because they dont have different boba options and other variety drink add-ins. read more

I wanted to like this place, but it didn't meet my standards. I ordered the tiger tea which is a combination of the milk tea + thai tea and the drink felt really watered down. The ambiance is nice and this is a great place to hang out with friends if you want to catch up and talk. They have couches and lots of available seating. Parking, however, is limited as well as timed if you want to park in front of the store. Also, the free cooler with check in only applies with purchase of a pastry, which isn't mentioned on the yelp page before you click "check in". I felt like this gave me a bit of false hope and that there should have been the mention of the need to purchase a pastry for the free cooler before I checked in. read more

Got a chance to try this place out famous for their "All Ube" desserts. Fyi, u need to get there early if u want a chance to try everything. We got there later in the afternoon and a lot of choices were sold out. We wanted to try the ube flan and those sold out quick. And of course right now certain stuff will sell out even quicker because it's only phone and online orders so order early and fast. Maybe once everything goes back to normal, then they may have more choices and less likely to run out so fast. The cafe is located in Chula Vista/Eastlake in a upscale neighborhood. The cafe looks like it's part of an apartment building along with other businesses surrounding it. It's across from a big park so it'll be nice to grab your desserts and just chill at the park. I've been wanting to try this cafe for years. And I was disappointed. Every dessert looked so good but I guess pictures could be deceiving. The flan ube cupcake seemed like the most popular so I tried that. The cupcake itself was moist and good but the flan had a weird texture and it was a little bland. I also got the the cheesecake and it was ok. It tasted mostly like sour cream and the crumbs on the bottle didn't stick to the cheesecake. I also got the hibiscus tea. Upon browsing some restaurants here on yelp. I came across with this cafe. It's called Cafe 86 and they mostly sell with ube in it. I told my husband we got to try their Ube leche flan cupcake and Ube crinkle because I read the reviews from yelpers and said that they were really good. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, we can't dine in yet to this cafe. I thought of ordering online for pick up here on yelp than calling. So I ordered ube leche flan cupcake, Ube crack cheesecake, Ube crinkles, mini ube monster milkshakes and grilled cheese. Everybody at home got their own taste verdict (lol). We voted everything and all of them were good. The leche flan cupcakes were moist and ube crinkles were soft. Ube cheesecake was good too! Only giving 4/5 because I believe the prices are way too high. Otherwise, FINALLY a location in SD! Smaller than the LV location, but still does the job. Service is great and the cafe is clean. Parking is tough, but I believe there is a back lot where people can park and just walk to the cafe. There are desserts that change everyday, and because it has been so popular, I recommend calling in and asking for their inventory on desserts so you don't waste your time making the trip. They do not make the desserts in house, which is why once they run out, they are done for the day. Besides all of the dessert options, they also serve drinks from shakes, teas and coffee, as well as a couple sandwiches! So obviously, if you don't like ube, you shouldn't some here lol. But if you do, I highly recommend the truffles, ube flan cupcake, and ube monster drink! Although, the other desserts do not disappoint. read more

Cafe 86 is a location across the street from Heritage Park which is so great! If you love ube, you'll definitely enjoy this place. The ambience was very warm and cozy. It's really cute inside! The lighting, furniture, paint, etc. went really well together. I loved it. We got there around 7pm. I guess that was kind of late because most of the pastries were gone. We were able to get the ube cupcake with the leche flan on top and an ube truffle. Both were really good! I'm not a huge sweets person, but you can't say no to ube. For drinks, I got an ube latte (I'm pretty sure there was no coffee but I also didn't ask). My boyfriend got an ube monster. It had Oreo crumbles on the bottom of the cup, ube shake, and Oreo crumbles on the top! So good. We'll have to try it again at an earlier time because I really want to try the ube crinkle cookies! read more

We took a stroll down to Chula Vista to check out Café 86 new location. We arrived about half an hour before closing so we expected that some things were going to be sold out. My husband and daughter both got the ice cream sandwich and I got the ube flan cupcakes. The ice cream sandwich was pretty good and worth the price. The cookie was soft and they used ube ice cream for the filling. The ube flan cupcakes were really good. Cupcake wasn't dry at all and the flan didn't just taste like egg compared to some places. The service could've been a little better from the supervisor or whoever was suppose to be training the cashier that was helping us. He was a little slow, which we didn't mind at all (you could tell that he was new). The only issue was that he was constantly going to the back to ask his supervisor questions on how to ring up the items. Rather than the supervisor staying with him until he completed our transaction, she just kept going to the back. He started getting really nervous and kept apologizing, which he didn't have to. I just thought that his supervisor could've stayed out with him if he had any questions instead of throwing him to the wolves. Other than that we would be back again. read more

New spot in my neighborhood. It's been open for a few weeks now and we finally decided to check it out - even if the weather is cold lol. The line was kind of manageable (it was just outside the door) compared to the days I've seen that goes around the building - possibly because of the rain. Well, it was well-worth it. My cousin Rhyan actually told me that he knows the owner from LA (where he's from - visiting for the weekend) and that this place is awesome (reason why I finally said let's go and try it - I'm not into waiting in line just for dessert). Ordered the upside down halo halo and the ube cupcake with flan --- OH MY GOD! I would say that I have a new favorite spot for dessert and it's just a couple of blocks from my house!!! Parking: A little hard to get a spot in front of the Cafe but there are plenty of parking the the back of building. Ambience: Cozy Service: Fast and Friendly. Very helpful with going over menu for first timers. Food: I came there to try the famous Ube Crack Cheesecake, Crinkles, Ube truffles. Sadly this is my third time going and still never got to try them as they've ran out. I got the Ube Monster and Ube Leche Flan Cupcake instead. Both were pretty good. Overall: My order was good but probably not worth the price and hype unless I do get to try their infamous ube crack cheesecake. I think to get the best experience I would recommend going earlier in the day when they still have all their popular items available. A great addition to this quiet neighborhood! Came here on a Saturday night with anticipation of some line action and wait time. I was told that this spot is still very new and trending (justifiably so!). The wait time wasn't too bad since there is a lot to look at on the menu. There are so many options for drinks that don't always have deacriptive names. If you're not a milk tea consumer on the regular, you'll probably be a deer in headlights. Despite the variety of more interesting and complex drinks, I heeded to the basic choice of the honey milk tea. It's delicious and definitely what you would expect the drink to taste like. It is sweet, so I would adjust the sweetness next time. My mom got the Rosie milk tea and hers tasted better than mine. I will most likely get that next time! We also tried the ube cupcakes...and well, now my pants are tight. The consistency of the ube cake is perfectly moist and dense that it makes you appreciate every taste buds that are still fully functioning. I've never had an ube concoction that really tastes like ube halaya...the major Filipino brands can't even compare. read more

I highly suggest trying the Ube desserts (I unfortunately couldn't get a picture of it) but the truffle and ube cheesecake were my faves. Finally! A good boba and dessert place in this area! Walking in, the esthetic definitely delivers. It's cute, it's clean, and the menu is easy to navigate despite the many items to choose from. I ordered the ube concha cupcake and the house milk tea with boba. The cupcake was perfect! Not overly sweet so it'll keep you wanting more. And they have non-dairy options for their drinks for lactose-intolerant people like me. Phew! My husband ordered the ube monster and the ube crinkle and they were both delicious! We love how all the ube taste real, unlike other places that taste artificial. We will definitely be back! The corn flakes were a nice touch of crunch and you could actually taste the ube, not too sweet either!! UBE GALORE! I've tried the truffles, ube leche flan, crinkle cookies, cheesecake, ube monster drink, and mermaid milk tea. I was so glad Cafe 86 landed in SD after dreaming of one day going to their north locations. And they chose Chula Vista, compared to the many other valid areas in SD they could have chosen. My favorites are definitely the truffles, ube leche flan, and ube cheesecake. The ube monster was also very good. Ube overload! The mermaid milk tea is a sea salt jasmine milk tea. For me, I tasted more of the sea salt. Would have liked to taste more of the jasmine. The boba itself was alright. Luckily the 2 times I went it was pretty chill with no line. Parking can be a little tricky if you go during the day. Evening is not busy at all. read more

Came here yesterday Monday at 2pm with my gf. Line out the door but we decided to try anyway. No pastries in sight, no signs but my gf was going to get a drink anyway. So I didn't feel the need to ask. Plus she said she came Sunday and they had pastries in the back. When we finally got to the front, they had just run out of all pastries. I decided to try my luck again today after picking up my daughter from school. Got here around 330. Saw line by the door again, got lucky and found "customer parking" in the back. What's nice is that I don't have to walk all the way around the building. U can't enter through the back door but there's a small corridor that leads to front next to it. I did try to call during my drive over but the phone was off the hook or busy or something. I called multiple times. As I was standing in line, a woman came in and walked directly to front. Apparently customers were parking in the back in "tenant parking". So they changed the sign on pastry glass to warn customers that they were towing. Only one cashier, took awhile to get to the front but I was able to order all that I came for and more, ube flan, ube crack cheese cake, ube truffle. They had more pastries in back FYI. My daughter wanted ube monster shake and added boba. I had a free small hibiscus cooler for checking in on yelp and was able to add lychee for 50 cents. Also, thanks to my gf, she told me i could order a "mini" monster shake, the cashier was actually unaware she could do that but she figured it out right away. it's the first week. I get it, they're trying and I'm sure they're doing their best with the staff they have and hopefully will be more fluid as time goes by. I Hope this business stays in the area for a long time cos I'm not in LA enough to hit up their other locations. If you love all things UBE, you will love this place! If you don't know what ube is, give it a shot! (It's essentially a sweet purple yam.) I've tried the UBE BARS, UBE CUPCAKE with LECHE FLAN, and UBE TRUFFLE. All are AMAZING!! They are not overly sweet, not even the flan! For drinks, I've only tried the ONE HOT KOUKIE. BEWARE - it is made with whole milk but you may ask for almond or soy! It doesn't say this on the menu but I saw the guy pull out a gallon of whole milk and I was like wait a second! FYI: Ube bars are only available on MONDAYS. My mom tried to get them another day and this is what they told her and apparently they have different things daily. I'll give them a 3.5 star review! Ube latte: just ube puree and milk. They only serve this drink in one size though. I love the prominent ube flavor, compared to most boba shops that use ube powder. I'd recommend this to someone who loves sweet and ube flavor. Ube milk tea: muted ube flavor (compared to the ube latte) and has floral undertones. This drink isn't too sweet! I'd recommend this to someone who wants a drink that has more depth in flavor. Boba: wasn't that flavorful to me. That could be a good thing if someone ordered a very sweet drink... but I found it a bit lackluster. I wish it was more sweet. Atmosphere: it's a great place to hang out or do some light laptop work. Service: very friendly servers! At the time, there were only 2 staff members while I was there. A bit concerning after the crowd starting coming in. read more

Loooveeeee love love this place!!!! I was driving around on my lunch break and I saw this place and had never tried it so I stopped in! The first thing that caught my eye was the hibiscus calamansi drink!!! I love calamansi so I had to try. I also tried an Une cookie. It was good. The next time I was there I got the ube cookie butter brownie which was super moist! And today I tried a new drink and got the mini Thai tea milkshake super delicious. Cannot rave about this place more! The place is also super chill for homework or book reading and they even have some outdoor seating!! read more
