One of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots in Baldwin Park. I feel like I've stepped into a real French bistro. The prices are reasonable. My only complaint is the lack of flavor/seasoning including salt with most of the items with eggs. I'm not a person that ever puts salt on food but its necessary here. I love this place! From the pleasant and welcoming staff to the decor. The food is also delicious! First time here was with my 12yr old daughter. She takes French at school, and her teacher had told her about this little place. We had lunch here and the food was amazing. So simple, yet so amazing. I had a simple turkey sandwich with an orange drink, and she had this fancy grilled ham and cheese type sandwich, which she loved. We came around the time that France was playing in the World Cup, and watched part of the game with one of the owners, which was nice. He was so pleasant. They are great at recommending menu items if you're unsure of what you want. Such a pleasant place in a beautiful location in Baldwin Park. I love this small cafe which is owned by a French couple. The food is consistently amazing and we have become regulars. Everything is made fresh! Their pastries and crepes are amazing. I frequently stop in for breakfast and lunch as I live in the area. They are closed on Monday and on Tuesday there is a group that gathers there to practice speaking in French. The service is kind and typically quick although the place can be very busy on the weekends. I highly recommend Cafe 906 to everyone I meet. read more

Only good thing about this place is the taste of the food, and even then its mediocre. The Management IS THE WORST!!! I have asked them A HANDFUL of times to politely to change their business hours in apple maps as it doesnt reflect the actual business times. STILL HAVENT CHANGED IT. I like to stop here on my day off for a special breakfast treat- a latte macchiato and a croissant. I find the service to be very courteous and fast. The croissant is not heavy and is definitely homemade. Prices comparable to Starbucks. I'm a local of Baldwin Park, though I've traveled all over Europe and enjoyed a vast array of cuisine. Cafe 906 offers a moderate array of food and beverage options spanning breakfast food, coffee, and brunch items. I've dined here several times now; I've enjoyed their tarts, their omelets, their crepes, and their toasts. While the food at Cafe 906 ranges from "mediocre" to "good", the prices reflect the location more so than the quality of the food. You can easily find yourself spending $12 or more for an omelet that is served cold (I've received lukewarm or cold food on two of my five trips) , and after several visits I am inclined to believe that many of their menu items are not made fresh in-house. (This does not include the croissants, tartes, or quiche, which I know for a fact are made fresh-- however, I find the quiche dense and lacking in flavor.) However, what I cannot overlook is the prolific abuse of the staff by the owner. I've both witnessed and heard tell (via neighbors) of screaming, swearing, inappropriate language, and-- as other reviews across multiple platforms have mentioned-- racism. They appear to be constantly short-staffed, which is unsurprising given the hostile environment. If you're going to support this restaurant, do yourself a favor and get take-out. Their baked goods or specialty items may be worth the trip, but you can easily get a coffee, omelet, or sandwich somewhere nearby for half the price. read more

I came here over the weekend for a laid back brunch outdoors. And, I wanted quiche! While I wanted to LOVE this place, I have to say I have mixed feelings. My quiche, I felt, was very good indeed! However, the side salad was pretty underwhelming and my friend, who ordered an omelet was so disappointed with his food. The omelet was overcooked and rubbery. Plus, they gave toast instead of hash browns. For this part, I knew they came w/ hash browns but the lady asked me 'what kind of toast do you want?' and I said 'oh it comes with toast?' and she said yes so I assumed that meant it came w/ toast AND hash browns. Unfortunately they gave the toast instead and we had to order hashbrowns on the side and pay $3 for them (when toast is $1) Anyway, I didn't take stars off for that. I could've misunderstood.... I took stars off because his food really was disappointing... so while OK for atmosphere by the lake and I liked the quiche, the rest was disappointing. Wow what a difference. My last review was 5 stars and I loved going. Today I ordered the same exact thing. Almond croissant, croque madame, iced coffee. Egg was hard like not over medium- it was completely cooked so no runny yolk. The bread was literally publix white bread thrown together with thin ham and light cheese. All wrong! The side salad was the only thing that tasted the same. The almond croissant was nowhere near as good as last time, not to say it was bad though. Compared to my other trips 18 months or so ago I would say this place has declined and comparatively would earn 2 starts but had I not had the wonderful experiences before I would have to give three stars. It's a bummer too because the ambiance is nice, is he prices are fair, and the service is always good. read more

I am a French food fiend and so was excited to try this out when my daughter started swim lessons across the way. I hate to say, it was a disappointment. The service was a little disorganized and somewhat unfriendly. But, this is an order-at-the-counter joint, so, no bother. But... the food... I had a croissant with chicken, cheese, and mushrooms. It was not at all seasoned and really lacked flavor. My husband had an equally subpage sandwich. I ordered the quiche for my daughter and she rejected it. My wife and I stopped by at 2:45pm and waited a few minutes in line. By the time we got to the counter, the owner said the kitchen was closed. I looked at my watch and it was 2:48. They close at 3. They need to change their sign to say closed at 2:45 if they aren't taking to go orders at 2:45. I absolutely love this place! It's my favorite place to grab lunch! I go so often they know my order. The staff is super friendly and beyond helpful. The food is amazing. My favorite is the palais-royal. Their deserts and pastries are delicious. The chocolate almond croissant is to die for! Their coffee is so good. Some of the best I've ever had. The only thing is you can only get soy milk with a latte because of their machine which is a little disappointing if you're in the mood for a cappuccino and are lactose intolerant but the latte is so good. The sandwich was hearty and had a good amount of cheese but I wish the fried egg would not have been cut off, and the yolk wasn't as runny which is one of the main reasons to have it on a Croque madame. I tried them last week. I don't plan to return. Took my order to go. The apple croissant I had was raw in the middle and the fruit cup was 2/3 full, but fruit was not very ripe. Salad of the day had maybe 1/4 cup chicken cubes (not fresh made); very little goat cheese and maybe 2 cups lettuce. My dressing was 1 oz at most. I had an iced latte. A true waste of $26. Not having the great fortune of living in France with access to the boulangeries, we take this as a pleasant substitute! I think it is a bit pricey but knowing how expensive retail rent can be in Baldwin Park and how much I enjoy sitting outside their cafe with my croissant and cappuccino on Saturday mornings I will gladly contribute to keeping their doors open. Substitutions are frowned upon in French food culture. Yes this is America, but we should also respect that this is their cafe and also their decision to decline substitutions - as many other restaurants in the area choose to do. This is a nice, quaint little place in Baldwin Park, near the lake. I have been to this restaurant twice now and I have to say, I like it. The service is very good, always very helpful and pleasant; I ordered one of their dark chocolate gluten-free small cakes one time and was given 2 for the price of one since the gentleman that took my order said they came out small that particular day. I love the chocolate gluten-free mini cakes (I can't remember their proper name); very light & fluffy and not overly sweet. These are perfect with a cup of tea. I also tried one of their quiches which had spinach and goat cheese. The texture of the quiche was exquisite, I have to say. Incredibly light & fluffy and I can't figure out how they got it that light. The flavor was only so-so; not a bad flavor at all but I would've liked it to have more of the goat cheese flavor since I love goat cheese. And I understand that's a strong flavor so they may have chosen to go the safe route so that all people would like it. But when I want something with goat cheese, I want it to scream goat cheese! But that's just me. I will absolutely be back and highly recommend them to you. I am glad that I work only a few blocks away from Cafe 906, over on Lake Baldwin Lane, and look forward to taking a walk during my breaks when the weather is much cooler. read more

French comfort food at its best. I like to try something new every time I come in but have a bad habit of always choosing my favorites. I was ecstatic when I found out they were moving to Baldwin Park a year after closing down their location at Fairbanks. I always end up having a sweet tooth when I come here for breakfast. My favorites are the chocolate and almond croissants with a café au lait. If you take the croissants home, make sure you toast them just a little bit to give them that nice flaky texture on the outside! For lunch, I can never go wrong with a croque-monsieur or a croque-madame (reviewer Cicely S. has obviously never had one before, because these are very authentique... why on earth would you ever want to use provolone cheese?! Blech!). The béchamel sauce is delicious! I really like the addition of the self-serve soda station. Great idea. Make sure to try their soup of the day! Bon appétit! read more

It is nice to have a new restaurant in Baldwin! I'm happy to see them slowly expanding their menu for more variety. The prices are a little high in my opinion, $7 for a croissant sandwich at breakfast is pricey. The owner is really nice, the waitresses professionalism/manners are hit or miss. Some have been wonderful but last weekend one brought us the wrong order and accused us of ordering wrong rather than taking ownership. Definitely worth trying because the food is good! read more

Went this morning to get a croque madame-- the line was long. the people in front of me keep getting told they were out of stuff. As for my croque madame, I hated it. the counter attendant, who I think is the proprietor, would not let me substitute provolone for swiss cheese, and I don't like swiss cheese, but I thought I'd give it a try since he was so adamant. Well guess what, it was gross. the ham was not anything special, it was served on white bread, COVERED in swiss cheese, the egg, which was supposed to be fried, was barely over easy. I can't understand why they wouldn't use a higher quality bread. Yuk. My husband, who does like swiss cheese, also didn't like it. Maybe this place is good for pastries, I mean they had a long line, so I guess some people like it. But I was very disappointed. read more

I was really surprised by the good reviews of this place. I'm sure their food is good but I went there for coffee and it blew my mind how bad it was. I asked if their espresso was local and she was confused and said it was the kcup stuff. So, I said no to paying 5 dollars for something college students make in their dorm room. Had their light roast coffee and it tasted like it had been sitting grinded in storage for months at a narcotics anonymous meeting. Waffle House is better. *no sarcasm here* I paid the tip UP FRONT, when I ordered. A Waffle House cook should teach this guy how to cook hashbrowns, which were undercooked and lacked flavor. The sausage links tasted like they were in a freezer bag, before being "cooked". My omelette was tiny, only about five inches wide. I was never asked if I wanted another coffee. Nobody came out to ask me how everything was. I won't be back here again. read more
