Came here for dinner on a Thursday night; two of us arrived around 7pm. Walking in, we were greeted and sat promptly. Once sat, bread and oil was delivered to the table. This bread was so good, we asked for seconds. We each started with a cocktail (my old fashioned was very good). We started with fried calamari as an appetizer. It had a light batter and light fry to it, which meant it wasn't dense from oil. The calamari plus some hot peppers and marinara sauce -SO GOOD! For dinner, I opted for seafood fra diavlo. The portion was perfect, not a whopping bowl that you have to take some home. And the ratio of seafood to pasta was much better than I usually find at other restaurants. For dessert, we got two slices of cake - a carrot cake and a turtle cheesecake. When our waitress brought them out, she recalled from checking our IDs (when we ordered drinks) that it was my husband's birthday, so she put a candle on it and sang happy birthday! I thought that this was truly above and beyond! The place is on the smaller side with tables close together, but nothing horrendous. It has an open kitchen that you can watch your dinner being prepared. With the kitchen being open, a bar area, tables close together, it can get above average for noise levels. If you are looking for an intimate dinner, this wouldn't be the best option. However, there was never a point where I couldn't hear what my husband was saying nor a point where I got annoyed with the noise level. Overall, a great find for Italian food in the Wrentham area. Definitely plan on returning! read more

Wow, I had one of the most disgusting meals of my lives. I ordered the papardelle bolognese, and it was one of the most revolting meals I have ever eaten. The noodles were beyond overdone. I NEVER send food back, but this dish was completely unetable. It was essentially a giant bowl of mush covered in a painfully sweet tomato sauce. My sister ordered some ravioli that were perfectly cooked and beautifully seasoned. I must have gotten the new cook or something. One extra star for how polite the waitress was when I complained. read more

I've loved Assisi since I first was introduced several years ago. It's been a favorite spot even if I don't get there too often. After being away for a long time I came back to celebrate my son's 30th birthday. The food was excellent as usual but what really impressed me this time was the unbelievable service. The staff knew we were coming to celebrate a special occasion and they went out of their way to treat us like royalty. I can't thank them enough for making our birthday celebration so special. Assisi is one of my top five restaurants in the state and is as good or better than most well regarded Italian places in Boston, and much more affordable. A big thanks to everyone on staff at Assisi. I can't say enough good things about this place and I can't wait to go back, hopefully soone. NOTE: like others, I was a little put off about the fee for extra bread however, inflation is making it hard for small businesses and I would gladly pay the extra cost to ensure quality restaurants like Cafe Assisi can stay in business. I also don't need the extra carbs especially given the generous portions at Assisi. It's really only a bummer because the bread is so good. read more

Food was almost inedible. The bolognese was soupy with big pieces of undercooked crunchy carrot, overcooked mushy pasta and Very bland. The steak was as also so thin and chewy, over another big white soupy flavorless "risotto". Tasted like Arborio rice in milk. So disappointing. I have had a very disturbing experience at cafe assisi in which 3 times the pasta and sauce accompanying the veal parm ead cold each time. As a result they charged me full price for the meal when I said are you serious? They only took 4 dollars off and nothing else was offered. Needless to say I was not satisfied with the side cold pasta and cold sauce. Disgraceful. I ended up going to macdonalds as I was so hungry. Never to return. read more

Did you get new cooks Cafe Assisi? Seems like it. I have been here several times and enjoyed it. Recent visit was not as good at all. Very greasy butternut ravioli dish-very small portion. Dried out ravioli and many had fallen apart. Could not taste any sage in it at all. Friend got the calamari pasta which was drowned in sauce and she actually felt it had too much calamari in it. Lemon cake was the best part. Don't think I'll go back soon. read more

We hadn't been here in a while and were disappointed in both mine and my husband's meals. Chicken Piccata tasted like it was drenched in lemon juice - very overpowering. Chicken parm sauce tasted like tomato's out of a can, bland with no seasoning. Both meals the chicken was tough to cut and chew. Like it had been overcooked by reheating it in the microwave for too long. Food has gone downhill, we will not be back. read more

Relatively small place but good food. Better to make reservations beforehand. Got takeaway, took about 20-25 mins. Got the caprices pizza (6 slices) and the eggplant parm both of which were pretty good. Overall good experience, glad I came here after going to the outlet malls instead of going to one of the chain restaurants. read more

Walking in the door you are immediately greeted. You think you own the place. The dining is close but comfortable. The food, which is what you are there for, is unquestionably the best around. This place has good vibe with small tables spaced very close to each other for half of the restaurant and a bar on the other half. It's a little noisy but not enough to ruin conversations. There is no pretentiousness here, just rustic Italian cooking, no fancy dishes and decor with the food. However if you are looking to have a decent meal at a vibrant location, this is it. I had some calamari for starters that were fried just right. For the main I ordered the veal cacciatore and it was average, though it was placed on the capellini which were over cooked and mushy. The portions are above average in size. For dessert I had a cannoli with as per the mean included a generous amount of ricotta cream and it was true! This place is mediocre at best. We ordered a veal dish, gnocchi with bolognese meat sauce, side of spinach & broccoli. The gnocchi had so many weird vegetables that were not finely chopped. Cute spot that has figured out a creative way to make the outdoor dining experience pleasant during the pandemic with some strategic fencing, plants, lights and heat lamps...you almost forget it's on a busy street. The bread was warm and the oil was good, but I felt a disappointed by the butternut squash ravioli after the second bite. The pasta was very dense and chewy, which took away from the squash filling, and while I love sage brown butter, the vegetables were finely chopped and were sort of drowning in it. Seemed a bit overpriced for what it was, service was a bit spotty, but the ambiance was nice. I went here for lunch after Christmas. The food was okay . I had the chicken fried sandwich. Chicken was a little overcooked and dry. I also got charged twice on my charge card for the same amount. I've been trying to reach them for several days, but no one seems to be picking up the phone. I've had good luck before this wasn't one of those times. read more

The quality of their food especially tomato sauce and meat has gone downhill from what it used to be. Some of our meal was very good and some was especially bad. Obviously they didn't try what they served us first. They were very nice about our complaint and didn't charge us for half of our meal. I had my doubts when a friend recommended this place by saying it was as good as any place in the North End. I'm delighted to report that he was right. We had the Caprese Salad, Butternut Squash Ravioli, and the Lasagna. I would give each one top marks. Everything was so fresh.
