Trattoria Della Nonna in Mansfield was incredible! The food is authentic, creative, and delicious. You can tell there's real passion behind each of the menu options. There's a nonna back there that knows what she's doing! The restaurant has two sides and is cozy. The wine selection is excellent, and our waiter recommended a Montepulciano that was so phenomenal we ended up ordering a whole bottle. We're still craving it days later. We started with the oysters, which I believe were from Wellfleet, and they were outstanding. They were meaty, fresh, and had no brine/salty taste at all. Even the bread with olive oil was memorable because it was perfectly salted and soo flavorful. For my entree, I had the chicken piccata with house‑made gnocchi--- simply divine. Truly one of the best gnocchis I've ever had! Wish there was more of them though. This was our first time trying the restaurant and it was SO good. I'm usually a bar side patron of the small plates, but decided to bring some friends to the dining room side for a birthday celebration. Our server, Cameron, was super friendly and chatty--all around personality plus. My one initial concern would be that he forgot to put our bread order in and we were drinking martinis on empty stomachs! Yikes! But we all came away none the worse for wear. The brûléed fig bruschetta special was amazeballs. Friends enjoyed salads. My chicken piccata was exceptional--tender and delicious, and the browned butter gnocchi were delicious--moreso the next day as leftovers. The lasagna was "different" but reportedly delicious as well. The spaghetti and meatballs were also hailed as delicious. I was a bit surprised that the house didn't comp for the birthday cheesecake (like Capital Grille and others do), but it didn't stop us from enjoying one of the most delicious slices ever. I made a reservation and was seated promptly by our server Diana - if you go, ask for her, you won't be sorry! Very unique space! You can be seated on the porch, the dining room or the back tapas lounge. The food was amazing! It was pasta night so you get a salad and choice of pasta dishes. I got the lasagna and you could tell the noodles were fresh and home made. The sauce was a tangy red meat sauce. Delicious. For dessert I had the brioche bread pudding and it was amazing! They take cards, there's more space, and everything just feels easier. We ordered takeout since it was a busy Saturday night, and we were right to assume the place would be packed. The restaurant is located on the main road in Mansfield, but the entrance is on the side, giving it a bit of a speakeasy vibe. Inside, it's cozy, with two rooms. A bar and dining area in the back, and a reservation-only room up front. The chicken parmigiana was fresh, tender, and the sauce was spot-on. We also got the tomato bruschetta, truffle fries, and Caesar salad. The Caesar was fine, but would have been better with more dresssing. The bruschetta was excellent and the fries were amazing. I really wanted to love this place but it was just ok, but could've just been it wasn't our cup of tea. Located in downtown Mansfield - street parking only. Just note that the entrance is not at the front of the building, it's at a side door down the alleyway. We came here for our anniversary dinner as the mister knows I love a good home made pasta and from reading that everything is made fresh with hand picked ingredients, he thought the pasta was homemade as well, unfortunately only the gnocchi and ravioli were made in house. We were told that due to staff shortage, they couldn't keep up with making fresh pasta anymore. The bread appetizer was good that had a tasty olive oil that accompanied it. The fresh ricotta and pecorino/prosciutto sticks - both were fine but nothing phenomenal. We both ordered parmigiana after we were told their parm is delicious as they don't put it in the oven twice - so we got one chicken and one veal. We realized when it came out what they meant - the burrata on the parm was cold. Very interesting rendition but not for us. I didn't like a bite of warm chicken then a bite of cold burrata to follow up. Our favorite prob was the dessert, toffee cake - it was a nice finish to dinner. The service was good but it was pretty busy that night so everything felt a bit chaotic, but kudos to the team as glasses were always filled and dishes were cleared promptly. I really had great expectations for our impromptu dinner/drink visit. We had experience here a number of years back and it was very good; not so much this time. But this review pertains solely to the bar side of the business. The issue is with the food. We chose the bar because we were somewhat hungry but not in need of a big dinner. The wines are great, the cocktails are great. One person behind the bar was on top of her game and was very attentive and knew the needs of her customers. But when she was not present, the others had no apparent interest. When you have to ask to put in a food order, after considerable time with menus in front of you, something is off. But then the food arrives... Salads are swimming in dressing. Pizza is loaded with salt. Who puts salt on a pizza? It was almost inedible. My wife thinks it was an attempt to get one to drink more. My husband and I went to Nonna's on a recommendation from a work colleague. We have been "regulars" ever since. The physical space is like it jumped out of the North End and landed in Mansfield. The food never disappoints. I love the olive appetizer. It is warmed with olive oil and has a bit of cheese on top. Excellent for bread dipping! We also frequent the bar for small plates. We had a great server- I think his name was Matt. Very attentive and pleasant. We skipped apps and went right for the entrees. I had cod two ways- which was sort of salty but delicious. One was a crabcake and one was breaded and baked on a bed of spinach. It felt sort of healthy- no additional starchy sides. My husband- the weekday vegan- ordered the short ribs on mashed potatoes with a rich sauce. Both were fabulous and we split a creme brulee which was perfect. Its top notch quality food in the suburbs. My only complaint about this place is the lighting in the dining room is grey and uninviting. First off, the service was great. The service staff was attentive and friendly and made us feel welcome. The bruschetta and wine were excellent (the reason why it gets two stars instead of one). The entrees were extremely sub-par. Both meals, seafood marinara and paparadelle and beef, were cold and bland to say the least. The seafood was obviously frozen (for the prices the least we would expect is fresh), the portion of beef for the paparadelle was less than 1/4lb ($42 dish). And the paparadelle was hard and crusty. I mentioned to our waitress (Kim) that my Nanna always put anchovies in the Pasta Agli Olio. She talked to the Chef and he graciously added some and it was delicious, brought back warm loving memories!!! Everything fresh and made to order, hot food hot/cold food cold, flavorful and seasoned. They even have their own home-grown ground Calabrian Chili... Yvonne, Kim, and Mark were all so friendly and thoughtful...we were running late and waiting for our UBeR to take us to the concert and Mark and Yvonne both separately offered to drive us there if we needed. We declined, as we were so comfortable and chill, we were not going to stress about being late. As we were waiting, had a nice chat with the owner, a true gem in this hectic, often transactional, industry...all of the people here show what Hospitality was and should be... This place is hands down the best Italian food located in the village of Mansfield, MA. I wish it was closer to home for us, but its worth the hour ride every time no matter what. We started with the stuffed artichoke, which was stuffed a chicken based red sauce. This is a must have app if you enjoy tender artichoke hearts with the flavors of an amazing sauce. I ordered the stuffed veal chop special spinach, cheese, and prosciutto, pan fried with a fantastic crust. If you like a stuffed veal chop, you cannot get one anywhere else after eating this! My wife ordered the seafood risotto with swordfish, mussels, calamari, shrimp. It was another excellent dish. My girlfriend and I has a wonderful date night here to celebrate a successful medical procedure. The oysters were good, as were the salads. The tuna crudo was lackluster. The braised beef ribs with papardele in cream sauce was absolutely fantastic, a perfectly balanced dish. Some restaurants play kind of a dirty trick where they don't offer /any/ budget friendly wines. Trattoria Della Nonna takes the opposite approach and offers a good variety at all price points. The restaurant setting is cozy and boisterous. The customers were mostly middle aged and all seemed to be frequent visitors having a good time with friends. We will go back if in the area. read more

While the cheese stuffed dates that are no longer on the menu are my favorite. The spaghetti and meatballs are so good. I eat so much when we go because it really is divine. We also ordered the artichokes stuffed with spare rib and it was delicious. It's a small place but very family friendly and great for date nights or family dinners. We had reservations for four at 6PM on Saturday night (10/15) for a business dinner with associates. We arrived about 10 minutes before six and were promptly seated at 6. Our waitress said she'd be right back with waters and to take drink orders. At 6:15, she came back but without water. I had been working outside all day and was as thirsty as a camel in the desert. She grabbed a water jug and filled the water glasses as she took our drink orders. 10 minutes later, she returned with the drinks. at that point, there were six people in the dining room including our group of 4. The dining room began to fill in and we realized it would be good for us to place our order. Our waitress was not easy to flag down even though she passed within sight multiple times. About 6:30, we asked about ordering and she said that they had a number of "specials" and the recited at least 6-8 items that were not on the menu. Many sounded great but remembering them all was impossible. They didn't offer a printed list of their specials which was disappointing. My wife is plant based and ordered marinara and pasta only. I ordered the rib eye steak medium plus or medium well and the waitress confirmed pink in the middle only and I said yes. We were ready for more drinks but again, flagging her down to order them was not so easy. The wait for the entrees were painful and finally, about 7:45 (now 1:45 from arrival and 1:15 after ordering) she brought three entrees. My wife's entree wasn't even close to what she asked for and was a prepared something - unknown. My rib eye didn't show. We again flagged her down and she took my wife's entree and said she'd be back. A few minutes later she showed up with the rib eye which was a touch past raw. Blood red center and pink on the outside. I asked that she please have it touched up. Now our guests are eating and my wife and I are both without entrees. Next, the chef came out to confirm that my wife wanted only pasta and sauce. He said the marinara has meat in it but he can remove the meat. We said "marinara alone doesn't have any meat???" I still did not have my rib eye back. It is now close to 8:15 and our guests have nearly completed their meals and the rib eye and my wife's pasta and marinara came back. My rib eye was stone cold, and while the outside looked like it had been warmed, it had been sitting long enough to reach room temperature or less - literally. I was pretty disappointed to say the least. The quality of the food was good, but the experience with the problems with timing and service were terrible and frankly ruined our experience. In the end, we just wanted to get home and let our guests go who live over an hour away. The bill arrived, and I gave my business credit card. The waitress returned after a minute and said "We don't take American Express" This was frankly the final nail in the coffin. My own company accepts credit cards and we have for 30 years. There is an incorrect belief by many that American Express charges more than Visa and MC, but the reality is that ALL CREDIT CARDS end up costing the merchant about 3.5% including AmEx. On the surface, Amex appears to charge about 1% more than other cards, however, Amex charges are "all in" while the others charge all kinds of fees and some credit cards, particularly the ones that give 1-2% cash back or all Government credit Cards, charge upwards of 4% to the merchants far exceeding AmEx. Again, this was really irritating. I found that I had enough cash on me to cover the bill (nearly $400) but not enough to leave a tip so I had to use my personal credit card further complicating the business expense. I will never go back nor recommend this restaurant. It is too bad because the chef was a nice guy and the other reviews were so strong, that's what took me there but I think our waitress was just in way over her head, or, the restaurant was understaffed and overbooked. It seemed that way at least to me. Either way, it was hugely disappointing. The waitress made multiple mistakes with the order and being handed cold (still under-cooked) steak after over 2 hours, was just horrible. We left at 8:45 and our guests were also very displeased. read more

We found a gem tucked away in downtown Mansfield! Everything from the roasted artichoke with meatball to the meals were fantastic! Stacy was our waitress and she was outstanding! She is a superb waitress and bartender. Not surprised that she has been on staff for 10 years there.
