SERVICE PER, VIOLATION OF TRUTH IN MENU LAW, SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN! I, along with a travel group from Internations, went there for dinner on Friday night before Labor Day. It was pretty obvious when we arrived, that the staff was overwhelmed trying to seat our group of 16 (even though we'd made reservations). It took quite a while to get our orders taken. I ordered just a grilled cheese but wanted a glass of wine to relax. Noticing the menu boasting: NEW ZEALAND SAUVIGNON BLANC, I ordered a glass, but then, because it was readily apparent I was NOT going to be able to get a second glass anytime within the next hour once they started serving (since it was taking so long just to take the orders) ordered TWO glasses. After the initial sip, I knew instantly, that was NOT a Kiwi (New Zealander). I went up to the counter and wanted to see the bottle my wine had been poured from. Sure enough, it was Paso Robles, California. I explained that it designated CLEARLY on the menu, New Zealand. The manager opened a case and brought another bottle which was from France, and gave me a taste. However, that was not any better. I kept the two glasses I had, thinking surely they would give me a discount off the $12 X 2 = $24 price since obviously the wine I was getting should have been priced around $8 per glass. Imagine my surprise when I did NOT receive a discount and then the manager kept insisting "You drank the wine." "Yes, because you did NOT have what you had put on the menu" this fell on deaf ears. I paid the bill and noticed later ON TOP OF THAT INSULT they had charged 30% gratuity onto everyone's ticket, in spite of most of us had wrong orders etc. I'd never heard of such a steep "forced" gratuity. There for dinner, and the entrées looked marvelous. Burgers, salads, pasta, fish! Plus the selection of appetizers was wide. Don't pass up the sides- I was able to make a meal out of a few sides. The baked potato was medium in size and came with butter, sour cream, green onion, and bacon. To that I added the green beans, which were tender and very flavorful. Have been coming here for years. Brought a friend in to share it with him because I love the ambience and the food is always so good. The servers are lovely and provide great service. Today, however, my friend and I were treated to a disgusting spectacle from who we learned is the general manager berating every server to the horror of the dining room. No person should have to put up with this kind of behavior where they work. You could see them running around with fear in their eyes. We addressed this issue with him directly following our meal. Sunday the 17th. of May 2026 1145am After being seated and drinks served, We ordered a Blue Cheese burger that was the daily special but not on the menu and a Rubin sandwitch. After 45 minutes we got our food.The rubin was good but the burger was awful. The meat looked like a hocky puck and was just as hard, way over cooked to the point of dry and burnt. We eat at the ridge quite a bit for lunch/dinner. Finally got to have breakfast there and wow! The best breakfast out we've had in a long time. The country potatoes were crisped to perfection. We were fortunate enough to stumble upon the Cafe at the Ridge while overnighting in Kerrville. We couldn't have asked for a better recommendation to go to for dinner. And our waiter, Austin, made everything even better. He has a great sense of humor, and our enjoyment along with the dinner was watching him buzz around the tables chatting it up with the diners. My husband tried my fried green tomatoes for the first time ever. He proclaimed them very good and would have them again when we come back...and we will. He had a burger (can't remember which one) that he proclaimed excellent, and I had the pot roast, also excellent. My only regret is that I had no room for ice cream or anything from the bakery. What a gem in the hill country we arrived 45min prior to closing on a Week night and they were very accommodating. Great recommendations on their dinners available that evening. On the whole - it was a wonderful experience. We all love the atmosphere and ambience of the cafe, bakery and especially the plant nursery! The little gift shop is an added bonus. The staff is very inviting and friendly. We were surprised that the food itself is not very tasty, although the presentation and portions are great. It's not terrible but that's not the reason we'll be going back. We'll be looking forward to some music outside on a weekend in that beautiful nursery and checking out the amphitheater. I do have to say that the fried green tomatoes, and the fried mushrooms were excellent. In Kerrville for a doctors appointment and searched YELP for a place to have lunch. The reviews were good so we drove out to try the Ridge Cafe. The cafe and actually the whole venue is charming. The staff are all very nice and helpful. However, we did not find the food to be that good. My wife ordered the chicken fried steak and it was tough. There is a diner in Comfort that serves a better one, and of course the best is at Richter's The Antler on 46. Her two side dishes, mashed potatoes and green beans were very good. I had the fresh flounder which was not good at all. First of all, I wasn't convinced it was flounder, the filet was very thin like tilapia, smelled fishy and was mushy/overcooked. My sides were sautéed spinach which was pretty good and a barely warm baked potato. We will give the Ridge Cafe another try at some point in the future but for now the review barely squeaked in 3 stars. read more
