I really like this place for a quick bagel or sandwich. I have gotten just a simple bagel with cream cheese, an egg and cheese bagel sandwich, nova lox bagel sandwich. I bought some nice looking cookies here, and I'm completely confused as to how you can make cookies taste this bad. I got several varieties to make the $5 credit card limit and they taste like styrofoam. I'm certain they've omitted butter and used fake chocolate, but I can't put my finger on the rest of the simultaneously flavorless and terrible taste. read more

God awful customer service from the owners. Also noticed that all of the power outlets are covered to discourage use and long stays. Bagels are ok. I would recommend Baltimore coffee and tea in Hanover or bagels and grinds also in Hanover. read more

Worst everything bagel I've had. Tasted like salt and very rude owner. Walked in hoping to get one bagel for there and 6 to go. The owner didn't even allow me to buy two to go. In the end I was very happy I didn't get the bagels to go because they where tough and had an overpowering taste of salt. read more

The hot pastrami sandwich was delicious. This is a good neighborhood bagel shop with a variety of pastries and coffee.

I'm staying at the Holiday inn express a quick walk to cafe bagel. Not a bad spot for a breakfast bagel. I've visited 4 mornings this week. Git off work exhausted one evening, wanted something quick to bring back to the hotel and got a sandwich on bagel. No problems, good sandwich. Ugh. Hate this place so much. I hope they go out of business. The owner (I assume he is the owner) is a jerk. There is a sign on their soda machine that obnoxiously points out that refills are *not* allowed. Tried getting a partial cup refill (I didn't fill up the entire way the first time), and the owner literally shouted at me! If you're not going to allow soda refills, put the machine behind the counter as opposed to making it a serve-yourself. And if you're going to shout at customers over the fact that they are trying to get two cents worth of extra soda, you should probably rethink your decision to go into the customer service business. read more

I visited Cafe Bagel for the first time today. I was in the area and hungry so decided to give the place a try. The line was long and there were plenty of people waiting for their order so I figured that I made a good choice to grab an on the go breakfast sandwich. Upon entering the restaurant, there is a handwritten sign that reads "no cleats allowed, for your safety". Once I entered, I noticed another handwritten sign on the soda machine that reads "ONE (one is underlined twice) refill per person. As I waited for my sandwich (7grain bagel with egg, munster cheese and turkey slices) I went to the women's bathroom to wash my hands and was completely grossed out at the perimeter of the toilet, it is completely black and gross! A simple caulking around the outline of the toilet is well needed. Oh, the food was decent. But because of the aforementioned issues I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Will NEVER go back! My husband & I have been regulars here for a few years, getting bagels several times a week. The bagels are decent. The owners are incredibly rude, nasty, always scowling & this morning, one of them practically yelled at my husband for no good reason. They have absolutely no gratitude for customers. I would give the food 3 stars but everything else a big fat 0. The owner is not a nice guy and always in a mood. The doors are supposed to open at 6AM but several times I have stopped by at 630 and they are still closed with no signs of life within. If you are going to open up late, at least put a sign on the front door indicating what time you will actually open. The place also seems dirty all of the time. read more

Years ago, I used to come to Cafe Bagel often and sometimes brought my team from work there because they had great bagels with creative toppings, and awesome service. I went back recently and was very disappointed: like the other reviewers, I found the food average and the service sub-par (and that's being generous). I visited with a friend from out of town who had an hour to kill before his flight; we got there around 2:45 on Sunday and ordered meals to eat-in. We were a little surprised when our food arrived in to-go containers, but much more surprised when a few minutes later, the young lady who took our order came to our table to tell us they were closing and we had to leave. There's no obvious sign with the store hours nor did the young lady indicate that they'd be closing soon when we ordered our food to eat-in. I won't be going back to Cafe Bagel; it's a shame because it used to be a really nice place. read more

Bagels are very good for outside of NY. I also really like their whitefish, tuna and chicken salads - they use only white meat and not too much mayonnaise (I hate goopy mayonnaise salads!). The teenage girls that work here are really nice and friendly. Unfortunately, the manager (Andy Lee) is completely the opposite. I have been getting bagels here every weekend (and sometimes mid-week as well) for NINE YEARS and he never once smiled or said hello. Usually he just scowls. Went in for a ham egg and cheese on a whole wheat bagel. Instead Got a breakfast covered with sesame and poppy seeds. That means they don't clean their counters when you get a sandwich covered in seeds. Some people can't eat seeds. Thanks for stealing my 5 bucks! Never again. Clean your cooking surfaces. read more

Really surprised by the low ratings. We live in the area and this is our go to place for a quick breakfast. Bagels are great and you have a wide variety of sandwich/spread options. Lunch sandwiches are awesome too. It's not Bagel Works but nothing can top that. It's mostly staffed by the local high school kids, which I appreciate! We almost didn't go when we first moved to the area because of the bad ratings. Don't be fooled, it's a solid place. read more

Originally from the New York area, I find it hard to get good bagels in Maryland. Cafe bagel has decent bagels. I enjoy the occasional bagel sandwich for lunch and have had their breakfast sandwiches a handful of times. Good when trying to grab something fast but nothing special. read more

Ok bagels and poor business practices. This place consistently makes me feel unwelcome and unvalued as a customer. This morning I purchased $19 worth of bagels for work (something I do regularly - more for convenience than any other reason). I then attempted to purchase a $2 cookie (yes, a cookie that cost $2!??) for my 8-yr-old whom was with me but I needed to use to use a personal credit card. I was asked if I had cash, but I did not. And then I was refused service because they have a $5 minimum for credit card purchases. I JUST SPENT $19 there on the previous transaction. This is a place with typical individual sales of probably $6-$10 in the morning and I just spent $19. AND I COME IN THERE ABOUT ONCE A WEEK TO BUY BAGELS FOR MY OFFICE. Correction - I USED to go in there about once a week. No more. Missing the previous owners more than even - they CARED about their customers... he would have probably given me the cookie for free and been happy to meet my son. read more

Had the worst interaction with the owner/manager that I've ever had at a restaurant. He was extraordinarily rude and in front of my little son. And it was completely unwarranted. He accused me of taking an extra refill of an ice tea. At the time there were no signs to indicated that - and he talked to me as if I was stealing. There was no indication of the rule but he talked to me as if I knew it and if I was a common thief. And let me say this was in front of my infant son. So I politely took his unkind words and left - never to return again. I've walked by and know a couple people that have been there since and now there are signs on everything with 'rules'. He apparently wants to squeeze every cent out of people that he can and not interested in building a customer base. As I said, since that experience, we haven't stepped foot in the place. Also, expect that whatever you order - even if it is one bagel - that it will come out incorrectly. Too bad because it is conveniently located near our house. He has probably lost thousands of dollars in our business in the couple years since that experience). But, I refuse to spend another cent in the place. I refuse to put money into the pocket of the owner/manager. Terrible. If I could give it zero or negative zeros, I would do that. Just terrible. read more
