Everything bagel with jalapeño salsa cream cheese packed some heat

Food was fresh - warmly toasted - cold cream cheese that slightly melts. Added some putting hot vanilla brewed coffee. Quiet atmosphere and plenty of seating. Simple ordering and call out for pick up.

Everything bagel with Plain Cream Cheese

Honest review ** I thoroughly enjoying trying new bagel spots and Sam's was recently recommended to me. I got an everything bagel with cream cheese and a cinnamon sugar bagel. Great amount of cream cheese, bagels are freshly made and best to go in the morning. Owner was pretty cool too, also a nice study spot if you're a college student and all your local coffee shops are crowded.

Everything bagel with lox, cream cheese and the fixins

Sometimes I like to treat myself. You know, carbs are bad...well maybe not for you, but for me....they are the devil. Anywho, on this particular day, I was craving a bagel with lox. Enter Sam's bagels. I pass by it often, but have never stopped on in. Why not give it a try. The inside it larger than what I expected, they have various options from just bagels to other pastries. On this date, I decided to try the bagel and lox sandwich, they happen to have two, one that is an actual sandwich and the other which is open faced. The bagel itself was okay. It was slightly more chewy than what I would like. I kinda felt that they could have given me more lox and fresher pieces of lettuce. The sandwich itself came with a bag of chips and a pickle which I thought was a good deal. All in all I thought the experience was fair to middling. Good to know that there is a bagel shop near by.

The bagels and cream cheese are quite good and reasonably priced (6 bucks and change for two). Sure, I've had better with a better selection of flavors... just not in the area. So, if you want a quick, cheap breakfast, you'll do well here. Their problem is they also do lunch. I ordered a corned beef - and it just wasn't very good, like at all. The pizza bagels look descent, so I might try that, and I may even go in for an egg sandwich (served all day) but I think I'll avoid their deli-meat sandwiches in the future. Staff is friendly, and patient (I tend to be indecisive). They keep the place clean. Parking is plentiful in the lot too, which is a plus, but the building this is in lacks the charm of downtown Catonsville.

Bacon and egg on an everything bagel
Audrey F.

Bagels were somewhere in between good and great, and Sam's offers a wide variety of flavors and types of sandwiches. The shop was clean, and the staff was extremely friendly! I ordered an everything bagel with bacon and egg but much preferred just a plain bagel or a bite of my mom's pb&j on a sunflower bagel because the egg was microwaved and flavorless. Overall, would recommend.

Portion sizes are small for the price. Service is slower than it should be. I was expecting more based on previous reviews.

Not bad if you just want to grab a snack to tide you over. A bit overpriced, though, for what you get.

Decent breakfast sandwich, although eggs seemed microwaved. Bagels are average sized, chewy, but lack a slight crisp

I came here for a very Instagrammable coffee flight and was not disappointed. We ordered a simple…read morecorned beef sandwich and I got the iced coffees flight. So the flight was for different ice lattes paired with a pastry, which was a croissant a Blondie brownie, a macaroon and lastly.strawberry cake for $25. It took a while for the flight to be prepared because I think they're a little bit shortstaffed on a Monday morning, but they had a lot of comfortable places to sit and wait. The corn beef sandwich came out good and I mentioned it was simple because it's literally just corn beef with some white bread and some cheese, but it was actually pretty tasty for breakfast. The coffee flight came out and it's on a large paddle and it looked really delicious. I have to say the regular flavored lattes and the croissant weren't my favorite choices, but as I started moving down the paddleboard towards flavored lattes and the Blondi bar, it was pretty good. My favorite latte was the butter beer and my favorite pastry actually turned out to be the Blondie brownie bar. The inside has enough seating for about 50 people and it's really cutely decorated. I highly recommend stopping in if you're in the mood for a coffee after a day of shopping in Ellicott city.

There were 6 of us, and they were able to put two tables together to accommodate us. I was overall disappointed with the food. The waffle which I paid $5 for was super small and there were just chunks of sugar in it. I also ordered scrambled eggs with spinach and cheese. The spinach came out on the side of the eggs and was uncooked. The cheese was not melted, and the eggs were burnt (dark brown and dry). The waitress was kind enough to take the eggs back for the cheese and spinach to be mixed/melted. They were still burnt and flavorless. I picked around and ate what I could. I also ordered some kind of spinach and feta pastry from the front case, which was good. We also all enjoyed the homefries which were crispy with a unique seasoning. We ordered the stuffed french toast which had a great flavor, but it wasn't really stuffed, there were just toppings on it. My nephew ordered the chicken and waffles. He's 15. I'm guessing that waitress assumed he was a kid and gave him the kids portion. Either way, the fried chicken looked like two pieces of frozen chicken schnitzel. My mother ordered the Reuben and did not like it at all because it lacked flavor.

This is a familiar place that updates the look and menu now and then, yet still feels like home. We often get a beet salad when it's available. Matthew's is scrumptious, with tender sweet juicy roasted beets, tasty grilled chicken, red onion slices and fresh spinach, tangy crumbled bleu cheese, and delightful candied walnuts, complimented by tart raspberry vinaigrette. By the way, it's gluten-free. We loved the rich cream of crab soup du jour, full of crab lumps and full of flavor, with a little spice from good old Old Bay. Delicious and dreamy. Their quesadillas were served a la carte as an appetizer, loaded with savory roasted chicken, heavy with a mild cheese and a lightly spicy flavorful thick red sauce, rolled in tender lightly seared flour tortillas. Generous and satisfying. Matthew's building dates from around 1862 as a station and hotel at the end of a horse-car line, before electricity! It's been through around 5 names over the years, and has been the Parsons family's Matthew's 1600 since 2004. We've felt comfortable and welcomed here for decades. It has plenty of free parking in their own lot. By the way, many of their already reasonable prices are discounted a little if you pay cash. That's a endearing way of keeping it real in Catonsville, only charging when it costs them.

We were able to flag down our waiter and inform him of the error and he went to the kitchen to get some on the side. It wasn't on it as it was intended but it was still good. I would come back--especially for the eggroll sampler.

We were walking out to Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror and honestly it felt like a perfect sendoff. The service was friendly without being over the top. Fair warning: don't come expecting espresso drinks or mimosas, it's a traditional diner. But they do have oat milk, and fresh dairy alternatives. This is the kind of neighborhood spot you want in your rotation. Highly recommend -- we'll definitely be back.
