I live in Dallas and frequently visit friends in the Sherman area. I saw Cafe Blackbird when I was driving through Denison several months ago and finally got to try it this weekend! It is a very cute café on the inside and out, a very nice cozy atmosphere. My friend and I had the same thing, the Hippie veggie sandwich with turkey added, some chips and a glass of iced tea. The sandwich was very good and on toasted sourdough bread. It was a very large sandwich and we both ate only half and took the other half home for later! A person could definitely split the sandwich and be just fine. We also purchased a slice of chocolate cake, a slice of toffee cake, three pieces of buttermilk pie and a loaf of the pumpkin bread, to go. ( don't judge) My mother makes buttermilk pie so I wanted to try this out on other family members and I hate to say this, but their buttermilk pie was better than my moms! The hint of lemon really set it apart, a bit like a lemon chess pie. Chocolate cake , And the toffee cake we're also very delicious! Light and fluffy and not overloaded on icing. And this morning we all had a piece of the pumpkin bread with our morning coffee, it was also very good and moist. Everyone approved! Next time I am in the Denison area, I will definitely stop in and try out the other menu items. And some coffee, too! read more

Fantastic food! Now I'm never going to be able to go to any of the other sandwich shops around Denison/Sherman again...THE tomato basil soup was phenomenal and tasted so fresh and the 3 different sandwiches we tried were all on point! This is such a quaint and cozy little sandwich shop! Everything is freshly baked, in house and the bread is to die for- pillowy and crusty and lightly toasted on the hot sandwiches, it makes for a rather enjoyable mid-day escape. I indulged in a chocolate chip walnut cookie and am so thankful that I'm far away from this shop because those could get really dangerous, they're so good- salty and sweet and chewy with a lightly crispy edge! There is covered patio seating as well as indoor seating and the staff feels like old friends. Will definitely venture back! 4 stars because the tomato basil soup left some things to be desired, but still good for sandwich dunking. read more

I've eaten here once and gotten take out twice. The first time (dine in) was AMAZING, I got a sandwich I didn't order but ate anyway and it was really good. However, the last 2 times we've gotten take out it was a waste of money. We ordered cake with our food that was so dry it was inedible...I gave them another chance and ordered broccoli cheese soup and it was the worst soup I've ever had in my life. Panera has better soup and cheaper. I'll wait a while before I attempt to eat here again. read more

I'm building a house in Denison and came out to check the progress today. I decided to travel the little downtown area and try a local eatery. Cafe Blackbird was the PERFECT choice for my first Denison meal. High quality, fresh ingredients from top to bottom. The best Tomato Basil soup (yes even better than La Madeleine) I've ever had. The toasted turkey sandwich was incredible. Delicious turkey, avocado, bacon and the best slices of sourdough I've eaten since I traveled to San Francisco. I cannot wait for this to be a regular hangout for me as the desserts and coffee are just as amazing. I'm partaking in vanilla poundcake with a lemon glaze and drinking a vanilla latte. When we were asking questions about the menu the employees were all so passionate about telling us about the place. If you're looking for a big Texas breakfast, this isn't the place. I think I could have eaten the entire menu and left hungry. No way to have a decent meal from the menu. You have to go up to the counter to order and pay, you are asked to leave a tip before you get your food, or before you experience any service. As a traveler, this was a waste of time and money, by the time we got to Dallas ( about an hour), we stopped for lunch. Driving to Colorado for a two day turn around and found this little gem in a tiny Town. I was sick of eating fast food on road trips so my husband and I stopped here for some lighter fare and homemade dessert. I had the Greek sandwich with fresh cantaloupe and chips with peach tea and I was very happy! Sooo good! Husband bhad the Reuben and it was also fantastic! We shared the homemade strawberry shortcake with fresh whipped cream and left very happy and not full of greasy 'eat on the road' fare! Hope to pass through again someday! These ladies were hustling today! The busiest I have ever seen, I normally come in on the end of the service. But what I wanted to write about was that the owner, Carli, had refreshed her menu with great tastes! Today I had their Tuna Melt. I would so recommend this to every one!!! This was my find of the week. While fatigued and hungry I spied with my little eye what I initially thought to be a quaint little antique shop. To my pleasant surprise it was a cafe and was I ever starving. I entered the shop to find old fashion, down-home, southern hospitality combined with home cooking. Call me crazy, just don't call me late for supper. I had the "veggie sandwich" and slap my buttered biscuits!! It was good! I scarfed it down in now time. Don't fly through these quite little southern towns because you might just be missing out. They offered fresh homemade pies, cakes, and southern charm. It's nice to meet folks who don't have to be color blind to like. It is the kind of place where no one is a stranger. We are just friends who haven't met yet. Found this gem on a road trip through Texas! So glad we stopped! A sign outside they stated they had the world's best cookies, and they were definitely top notch! Can't leave without trying one! The first clue of this restaurant being awesome was the long line waiting to place an order. The next "attention getters" were the very clean building, the wide variety of home baked displayed desserts, and the many staff members quickly moving around helping guests. The food was excellent! I ordered a Reuben sandwich which was filled with tasty corn beef and the Zuppa Toscana soup which was very flavorful. We were a group of four so we ordered four desserts. All four were fresh and excellent! Our favorite was the warm blueberry, vanilla bread pudding. I highly recommend this wonderful new business on Main Street, Denison!! read more

Too expensive for a sandwich. $9.50!! And nothing special! Felt very uncomfortable as no associates were wearing masks. Iced tea was in a container where all customers were touching the spicket. Silverware not wrapped and everyone touching it. Lemons for tea were in the open and tongs were laying in the lemons that everyone touched!!Bathrooms had a roll of paper towels on a household holder. Not sanitary to Covid standards! When you pay, the cashier takes your payment and gives you a cup of ice from an ice chest. She wears no gloves, handles the money and gives you your cup of ice from a scoop that is left in the ice chest with her germs on the handle. Such a nice place but needs to become more Covid conscience! Won't be back! Felt too uncomfortable!! read more
