The owner recommended the chicken wings over the popcorn chicken and he was absolutely right. Eat them hot and they might crackle when you bite, and the salty goodness and juiciness will not disappoint. A quaint and cute café that gives immediate cozy and intimate vibes as you walk in. My boyfriend and I stopped by here for dinner while our dogs were getting groomed nearby. As we entered, we were greeted warmly by the cashier near the register which is pretty close to their entrance. We took some time to look over the menu as they offer all sorts of food and drinks from tasty appetizers, savory ramen, delicious dup baps, and all varieties of teas, smoothies, and more. We decided on the takoyaki, spicy tonkatsu ramen, smoked salmon dup bap, watermelon milk tea, and lychee milk tea. Service was very friendly and they did check up on frequently as well as another table. They always did everything with a smile and it seems that this place accommodates both English and Korean speakers! We were able to sit wherever we wanted freely and chose a small corner in their café. I went to use their bathroom which had the cutest décor and very well-maintained. Once I returned, our drinks were delivered then the rest of our food. The milk teas were made to perfection and the cups are super cute too. My boyfriend really enjoyed his smoked salmon dup bap and devoured the whole thing! I liked the spicy tonkatsu ramen but the broth felt very grainy and wasn't spicy enough, but luckily a woman (whom I believe is the owner) also dropped off chili oil to add to my ramen if I wanted it more spicy which I appreciate. Other than the grainy taste of the ramen, there was a generous amount of ramen toppings and the chashu was delightfully charred. We also enjoyed the takoyaki as well, it had nice pieces of octopus. Stumbled across this hidden gem. Parking is limited in front, additional parking in the back. Very clean and open dining area, extremely nice and customer focused staff. You order at the counter and they being your food out to you. If you are unsure what you want, they offer a menu to look at from your table and then you walk up when you are ready. They bring out water while you wait and very helpful with recommendations/answer questions you may have. Throughout our time, they constantly checked to make sure we were OK, how the food tasted and refilled our water cups. We ordered 2 rolls, quite a few to pick from. They also have photos to look at if you are more visual. Both rolls were tasty, fresh and very nicely presented. The smoked salmon bowl was very flavorful with fresh veggies on the side. So delicious! The chicken karaage was not greasy, well seasoned and came with a delicious dipping sauce. Always amazing food and service at Cafe Brown. There isn't a single item that I don't enjoy, but the Super Dragon Roll is delicious! Tonkatsu Ramen is really good. I usually order it without bean sprouts just because I don't like bean sprouts and add an extra pork chashu. The crispy fried chicken is crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside they have to do something special. Food is great, but the service takes them over the top. The best ramen place i have been to! I have been on the search in the tacoma/lakewood area for ramen places and just have not had luck. But the flavors are so good here and the food is always fresh and clean, very homey. The noodles are good, i have been comin regularly and it seems they have just continued to better their food. noodle texture was very delicious. My husband and I have traveled to Japan and have tried various ramen dishes before and without a doubt the spicy miso chicken katsu ramen ranks in our top ramen dishes. The chicken katsu was cooked perfectly without it being too dry or chewy. The lighting in the place also gives a nice ambiance. Cafe Brown is as out of the way as you can get with a non-descript marquee and plain storefront. It's next to a smoke shop on a busy road, and unless you're looking for it, you're likely to miss it. Don't. The inside is comfortable, modern, and minimal. Something about the lighting made me feel like I could be in there all day. They offer a variety of sushi's, ramens, and milk-teas on their menu. I chose to have a deep fried spicy tuna roll, Chicken Katsu Ramen, and gyoza. The deep friend roll right be the best I've ever had. Most places leave the batter on the outside slightly under crisp choosing presentation and color over taste and mouth feel. They got both. It was like they fried it, cut it, and refried it. The gyoza were flavorful and crispy but slightly doughy on the inside and they may have been understaffed. The ramen was flavorful and had plenty of noodles to hold the crispy chicken katsu!The only complaint that I have is that the ramen had far too many bean sprouts. It felt like they were used as a bowl filler and after time got in the way of what was otherwise a great bowl of ramen. This place was pretty good aside from the bean sprouts. I will be returning once more during this vacation. I'm going to give it four stars that would have been 5 should they choose to justify price with higher quality jnstead of portion size. read more
