    Korean Style Sausage Soup (Soondae)
    Meekyung J.

Came here because I love soondae and Seattle doesn't have a decent place. The reviews said the soondae was the best they've had so we decided to give here a try. The price was good compared to Seattle prices but compared to other Tacoma prices, it's average. I got soondae soup with soondae only. The soup broth was decent but the soondae itself tasted very stale like thawed from freezer... which honestly was so weird because I saw them making fresh soondae. In addition, there was literally nothing in my soup other than little bit of green onions and couple pieces of soondae. I was super duper disappointed!!! Soondae has been one of my absolute FAVORITE Korean street food as long as I can remember. I've had soondae from just about every single Seattle area restaurant. I have not found a restaurant that has really good soondae Since other reviews brag about how good their soondae is, I would be willing to give them one more try before I completely dismiss their food. If their soondae is good the second time, then I will change their rating and make edit to this review. This might be a while since I do not plan on driving down to Tacoma out of my way to try here.

We stopped in and while the exterior says dive the inside is very clean and well maintained. You can see the clean kitchen when you order. Tried the Gyoza, Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Sweet and Sour Chicken. The Sweet and Sour Chicken was good and so was the Sesame Chicken. The Goyza and the Mongolian Beef were outstanding. Especially the Mongolian Beef served on a crispy bed of rice noodles and the taste was full and balanced. Goyza was perfectly done and no taste of oil and served in a little boat with the sauce (mmm ginger). No kids menu but order and share. Order extra Nd take some home! Service: excellent, slight wait as food is made if it's busy (and it is busy at times) Cleanliness: Very clean Kids menu: no MyFitnessPal: no Restroom: yes but only use if you need. Very clean but you need to ask as it is around back in the kitchen

Teriyaki joints are saturated w/ Korean owned businesses. I was only interested in the Korean food he had to offer. I ended up ordering Soondae (Blood sausage pork blood with cellophane noodles and glutinous rice) and Spicy Pork Bulgogi (Pork, Onion & Spicy.) The ugly looking establishment exceeded my expectations as far as their quality of food! Recommended. Thanks Blake

    Delicious Soondaeguk

Come here if you want delicious soondae!!! Like VERY DELICIOUS soondae. I almost lost count of the years I've been searching for spots that serve good, quality soondae. First off it's RARE to even find a Korean restaurant that serves it at all, and then if in the rare instance they do, it's just meh. But alas, Samwon Garden Restaurant is it. Even though it's a 40 mile drive for me from downtown Seattle, I've been every weekend for the last three weeks. So good! Like I shed a happy tear good. I get soondaeguk and then an order of soondae. The soondaeguk isn't fancy or complex by any means--no noodle, no deulkkae garu..just broth, green onion, and soondae. I bring my own bag of deulkkae garu to add to it lol. It's so good!!! Sometimes the broth is fattier and more flavorful than other days though, but still always delicious. So glad I found this place! Thanks, Yelp!

    Beef Bulgogi to go
    April J.

Was craving Beef Bulgogi so grabbed some for takeout. I was pleasantly surprised to receive 3 side dishes of kimchi along with it! It was flavorful and such a large portion that I still have half of it for lunch tomorrow. I'll admit it wasn't as smokey as if you dined in but the flavors were all yummy. Try this place if you haven't!

Sul lung tang for me and soon dae gook in the back.

Friend recommended this place for the authentic taste. The flavors were delicious but there were a few things that bummed me out. They didn't have the traditional coarse salt and only take salt. The service was also not that great. I'm used to most Korean restaurants that come to check up on you.

We had our Korean fix this evening. Daughter, Kaylah agrees that the food was very tasty and flavorful. She got the Spicy pork bulgogi and I got the Kalbi. They both were delicious. Our first time here. The owner was very nice and cordial. We would return again.

Seolleongtang soup (to go). Generous meat and soup portions. They even included glass noodles! Everything here was delicious!!

There was nooooo flavor! It desperately needed salt, MSG, soy sauce literally anything to add flavor. The super hot bowl crisped up the rice which was a fun texture but made it stick to my teeth real bad bc it got too crispy. Some parts started to burn bc the pot was so hot. The chicken was non-existent. There were a ton of beansprouts and pickled veggies which costs next to nothing however they charge $20 for this dish. My friend got shrimp fried rice and also had to add seasoning when she got home. For the prices, I'm shocked at how bland and boring the food is. The service was quick and they get packed during lunch hours.

Although he was able to explain the AYCE rules thoroughly, he lacked the basic knowledge of what the sauce contained. He also kept asking if we wanted the grill changed. We explained that once the grill was "seasoned," the food would not stick; which is why we didn't want it changed... yet he asked if we wanted it changed right after this. I also asked for more napkins, he brought one. The ventilation in this restaurant is horrendous, the smoke and heat from the grill were unpleasant for anyone sitting near the wall. I had to move seats after I was done cooking, because the heat was making me sweat profusely. A female employee came by and asked if we needed anything, and I asked for napkins (to wipe the sweat off my face). She looked at me as if I was asking for a slice of pizza. I asked her if there was a problem, because of the look she gave me. She responded, "no." I got the feeling as though she didn't want to give us napkins for some reason. Again, the food was good, but the service was terrible.

I stopped by around 9:30pm by myself.. jeez, the parking lot was absolutely packed. Every single spot in the main lot was taken, so I had to park in the isolated back area and walk to the front. Not an ideal parking situation imo, especially at night, if you're alone like I was. Thankfully there's sufficient lighting. The restaurant itself is pretty small with only a handful of tables, and it was EXTREMELY busy. There were already at least two parties waiting ahead of me, and there's barely any room near the entrance to wait comfortably. Only about four chairs available to sit and wait. It took about five minutes before any staff member acknowledged me, but to be fair, I guess everyone looked like they were running nonstop trying to take care of tables and orders. Eventually, a middle-aged male staff member came over and kindly asked how many [for a table] and when I told him "just a table for 1," he explained there would be a wait since there were no tables currently available. He spoke decent English thankfully, so it was easy to converse, and once I told him I was willing to wait, he remained polite and attempted to figure out the table seating situation. Based on his attitude and willingness to accommodate me, I decided to stay despite the hectic first impression. That's mainly why this is 4 stars instead of 5. He was nice enough to offer me a cup of water while I waited, I said yes, and he brought it out immediately. I waited about 30 minutes before finally being seated. By that point I was absolutely famished, so I ordered the BBQ Intestine Combo A along with a corn cheese appetizer. The Combo A is supposedly enough for 2 to 3 people, but I can definitely eat lol. It also came with bean sprout soup, Korean salad, and complimentary side dishes. The soup was decent. I didn't really care for the salad personally since I'm not much of a salad person. They also asked if I wanted rice, and they brought out the Korean-style rice mixed with (i think?) grains/beans/barley that I really enjoy at every Korean restaurant. The corn cheese was super good! It was cheesy, flavorful, and not watery like some places make it. I finished the entire thing. The BBQ intestine combo itself was absolutely delicious. It came out cooked really well and piping hot with veggies. Everything tasted savory and satisfying after such a long day. The combo included small and large intestines, beef stomach, and pork heart. I ended up eating about 85% of it before finally giving up and asking for a small takeout box so I can enjoy the rest later (which still tasted amazing after tossing in the air fryer). My total ended up being around $111 including tip, which is definitely pricey, but my stomach was very satisfied and the food was totally worth it. The atmosphere here is very lively. Throughout my meal, I noticed several Asian families dining together, mostly Korean with some Vietnamese families as well. You could hear laughter from most of the tables and even the kitchen staff. If you're sensitive to loud or crowded restaurants, dine-in may not suit your preference. Overall though, I would absolutely recommend this place for the food. Just be prepared for waits, limited seating, and a crowded environment. If you're dining with family, impatient with wait times, or prefer quieter places, takeout may be the better option. I did notice they seemed a little more naturally comfortable interacting with Korean customers, but I noticed the Korean party in front of me waited just about as long for their table, and personally, I did not experience any discrimination and felt I received fair service throughout my visit.

But this place needs to get really checked out for the way they are treating customers, especially return loyal ones. I have actually never had an experience like this from the waitress, but there was one that even my friends noticed was very rude and looked angry for working there tonight. I came with a group of friends around 8:30pm and was told we had to leave after 1 hour - not explicit in telling us they were planning to close. Once seated, our grill was malfunctioning. It took 2 different members of staff over 5mins to get it running. The food itself was nothing to write home about, but also not the worst Korean bbq I've had. However, the service was simply horrendous. For the whole time we were there, we were made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome and our patronage unwanted. When placing our orders, staff would: roll their eyes, walk away as we are verbally ordering, would not acknowledge our requests (so we didn't know if they heard it or not) and denied us items from the menu. From the moment we sat down, we were told the kitchen was closed so no steamed eggs and there was no lettuce left for us to have with our meat. We were not asked for any final orders before being denied refills despite having time left from what we were told on entry. The cherry on top was extra tip charged on the bill. Their menu explicitly states 15% for parties of 5+ but they put 18% on our bill. I definitely won't be coming back and would recommend others to avoid this place. No food is good enough to out weigh the terrible service we received.
