Decided to try this place as we wanted to take a drive and get some fish. I will say the name is deceptive. It should be named "Jakes near the Lake" but we could not of had a better experience. We sat at the bar and our bartender, Sarah, was awesome. She was attentive and extremely pleasant. Now to the food. We got the platter and got to sample most of the fish they have, except for the salmon. I will say it was delicious. Wasn't a fan of the fries, but that's on me because I don't like fresh cut fries. We never had been here before, so we drove out and found ample parking and a very nice restaurant. We were surprised that Jake's was NOT on the lake, but across the street from the lake. If you're going for a lake view restaurant, this wasn't it. Upon entering, we were greeted by a very pleasant young lady. Seated by the window, we were pleased by the menu and the daily specials. Our server was very prompt and courteous. We ordered the walleye sandwich and the perch sandwich. Both sandwiches came with hand cut french fries and coleslaw. Our son ordered the grilled cheese sandwich and tomato basil soup. Our food arrived very promptly. My wife and I both loved the fish and felt that it was one of the best fish sandwiches we've had in a long time. The fries were rather limp and could use some more attention by the kitchen to make them stand out more. I like a mayo based coleslaw, so I didn't really love the slaw, although it was fresh and tart. The soup was very tasty and the grilled cheese was done just right! Overall, we would recommend this restaurant and we can tell that the local crowd likes this place and has kept it in business for a long time. We went for a late lunch here and we were not disappointed. The place was packed and the crowd never died down. We only had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. Our waitress was knowledgeable and the menu had a lot of great choices. I chose a perch sandwich while my hubby had the walleye with hand cut fries and coleslaw. Not from the area but we looked up local faves and Jake's came up, so we stopped for dinner and were so glad we did!! The service was perfect, the atmosphere was like eating dinner at a friend's house (with great music) and the food was fantastic. We had the pierogis, fried shrimp platter, and captains platter. The fried shrimp was some of the best I've ever had, with yummy cocktail sauce and homemade fries. The pierogis were THE best I've ever had. I'd be a regular here if we lived close by!! read more

Service was amazing! Everyone was extremely courteous and engaging. Had a short wait. Not much room inside so we waited outside. They came out and offered everyone a beer while waiting for their table!! The restaurant was very clean and had a cozy atmosphere. We had the seafood platter. With fresh Lake Erie perch and walleye. The shrimp were good. But I believe they were a frozen item. Homemade coleslaw was good. Homemade clam chowder was good also. Also had the prime rib special of the evening. This was a little underwhelming. The prime rib itself was tasty and tender. However, the baked potato was not fresh. It was gray & pasty. The broccoli was soggy also. Stopped for a second time to Jake's on the Lake in Avon Lake Ohio. First time we had some wings and a Fish special that was so tender and seasoned right. This time we had a burger and some Potato skins. This Restaurant can get crowed on the weekends. Be aware. Their fries are fresh cut like "fair" fries. Service is always friendly. I have to say that it has been a while since I left a restaurant completely satisfied. We have been bored of the same old and our children make it tough to wait for tables to open up. Our kids were with my parents and we decided to go to Jake's on the lake as it's been a while. The food was so delicious. I had the Cajun scallops special and my wife had the bourbon steak special with fresh green beans and baked potato. Everything was amazing and the sauces were unique and delicious. The service was great as well. We will definitely return more often. read more

Jake's is a cozy local eatery in an old house in Avon. As many have noted, it's not on the lake, but there are parks and boat ramps nearby. Plenty of parking, friendly service, and delicious fish sandwiches and burgers are the standouts here. read more

Jake's on the lake, more like Jake's on a busy road with no lake in sight at all. I mean, yeah, the food was and service was great, but I was expecting a view of the lake. I left unhappy because I wanted to see the lake while eating. There's like no restaurants on the lake at all in this area. What a joke. Maybe the Avon Lake Power Plant project will allow for that and this place could actually be on the lake like its name. Anywho, it was a great burger. Walked right in on a Saturday 1145am for lunch and got a table. The place did fill up pretty fast by the time we left. Place is plenty big inside. Yea it's an old house, but so what. It has character. Menu was ample with reasonable prices. Our server Jessica was pleasant and prompt. My sandwich was fantastic. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. Went there 3/13/26 around 7 PM. Front entrance was packed with people waiting walked up to give my name got lucky. Two people were leaving the bar and nobody was waiting for bar seating they cleared the bar. We sat down bartender was attentive got us our drinks we ordered clam chowder to start. And the Lake Erie perch dinner to split. The chowder came out within 10 minutes. It was super thick bland barely any clams. About 20 minutes from that. Our dinners came out. They gave us two separate plates, each with three pieces of perch, coleslaw, and onion rings, tartar sauce, and ketchup.. onion rings were hot, crisp, and very tasty, coleslaw was average. The perch was room temperature at best, not very crispy and flavorless. Bartender was great, might go back on a less busy day to try some of their other menu items. Was here for the first time on a Saturday for lunch. The place was busy! But, only a few minute wait. Service was prompt. We got a half order of onion rings which were very good. I got the walleye sandwich and the wife got the "Savannah Grille". Both were good, but the Savannah grill sandwich was messy the way they cut it. One of those sandwiches once you pick it up it is hard to put back down without it falling apart. Bottom line is we'll be back, but perhaps on a weekday. read more

Even though they were super crowded on a Saturday night our party of two was seated almost immediately. We were greeted quickly by our server who brought our drinks and took our order. Wisconsin Ham Chowder was excellent. Highly recommend if you get a chance. Our split plate perch dinner was split in the kitchen. Perch and tartar sauce were very good. Skin on fries were good. Great little restaraunt. Lots of food choices. Service was so good despite it being very busy for lunch hour midweek. They do make you wait until your entire party arrives.
