    Vegan Crab Sandwich

Not only did the meal taste great it had a beautiful presentation. So glad we found this. It is in the back of a building that is on the Main Street. There is free parking in the back. We sat outside with our dog. Ate some of the lunch before I remembered to take a picture.

I was very excited to try this restaurant. I was in Newtown and looking for something to eat. I saw the Vegan Cheesesteak on the menu and was excited to try it. The restaurant is literally a hidden gem. It's a little tough to spot, but the vibe in the place is amazing. The guy working on my visit was super friendly and helpful. And the vegan cheesesteak was very tasty. Can't wait to go back and try the other vegan options on the menu.

Okay, so you follow the directions to a downtown area and at first you will not be able to see this cafe. We looked and looked but it wasn't u til we saw the sign for their cafe on a sign pile with other businesses that we were able to find it. You have to walk through a small sidewalk area to the back of the building and they are located on the bottom of the building. We were seated quickly and had our lunches within 10 minutes. My daughter enjoyed the chicken sandwich which they pressed as a panini for her and the sweet potato soup with jalapeño had just the right amount of heat. A lot of vegan and vegetarian options. Nice little cafe.

I have been coming here for about 3 years and it is always such a pleasure! Vegan options are in abundance at Cafe Con Leche and I am so grateful for that! Enjoy the many options that are offered at this restaurant. They have options for nonvegans and they also have desserts and coffee.

Bigger than it looks. Vegan burrito to go

If you're going to know one thing about my experience at Cafe con Leche, it's that I accidentally said "damn" when my burrito came out. But of course I'll tell you other things too ;) On my way to World of Falafel, which unfortunately was closed for succot (jewish new year) so I ended up yelping this place with a long history dating back to just before the 21st century, and a much changed menu from back then, I was thrilled to see a whole page with vegan options. Everything from mexican to indian to "Vegan Crabcakes" which I'll need to try. Upon suggestion of the hostess, i ended up with the vegan burrito, stuffed with spanish rice, romaine, and very well seasoned and cooked seitan. All wrapped in a blue corn flour tortilla and a side salad for $14. A little more than chipotle but also a little better than chipotle ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Great place, very quaint, and empty on a Sunday at 3:15 (I guess not many people eat full meals at that time...) Lookig forward to returning some day.

I have eaten here since 2005, but really increased my frequency in the last few months, and it's been delicious every time. If you're nervous about a vegan restaurant, don't be. They have vegan options but also lots of real meat options. Among my faves are the vegan crab cake sandwich (doesn't taste like crab cakes to me, but I think of it as a variation on a veggie burger). Mussels & linguine is also very tasty in marinara sauce. Sides are always salad or veggies - they don't default to fries or chips, which I love because it's so much healthier.

Great food! On a Friday night at 7pm, we were the only ones there but the servers were very nice. Get the bruschetta!

Ask the Community - Cafe Con Leche

Do you have gluten free options?

    Yes they do.

Is this cafe accessible by wheelchair? I see there is 1 step into the cafe, but is the cafe itself up or down a flight of stairs once inside?

it is a small narrow place. No stairs but a step or two to get in. I doubt that a wheelchair would fit in unless they have an entrance in the back or something that is handicapp accessible

We were there tonight and our server was Ashley and she really went above and beyond. She provided us with our single best experience at your restaurant. She was the icing on the cake! We will continue bringing all of our family and friends there. The only thing better than Anthony's smoking old fashion was Ashley caring service. Nice work having her on your crew! 59 Almshouse seems to be the place for large groups to get together which is both great and tough…read more Great because they accommodate large parties, and not because the restaurant can get very loud, very quickly. They have three seating options- their inside bar area, an outdoor covered area, and an inside dining room. We sat in their dining room which was nice until more guests came in and it became increasingly harder to carry a normal conversation. That aside, the staff was super nice, attentive, and great with menu suggestions. Now the food- damn (excuse the language). The portions were HUGE (the sticky rice bowl easily could have fed two people) and delicious. We ordered the tempura green beans side as an appetizer along with the bangin' shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was in a more cornmeal-like batter versus a tempura based you would have expected but good nonetheless. And you can't go wrong with tempura green beans with various dipping sauces. For entrees, the turkey reuben was crispy yet saucy, paired with coleslaw, grapes and pickles. The sticky rice bowl was packed with all your favorites and topped with crispy wonton chips (yum). Coupled with a trio of sauces, you also have eight protein options to select from. Aside from the noise level, good experience overall. Side note for new guests- the entrance is in the back, up a long ramp, NOT on the street side.

Solid service by Cheryl (server) and Lindsay (sp??) our busser/water etc…read more Delicious food including the special pasta that night. We also got dessert to celebrate 2 birthdays and an anniversary. Dinner for 4 was a little over $200 - although 2 of us did not drink. Cocktails here are from $14 and up. The famous bartender who does "7 deadly sins" does not work on Sunday nights. A great special occaision spot.

Had an OK to good lunch experience here with my son. We sat in a dining area that faced the river…read more I would recommend asking to be sat along the windows if you can reserve one. The service was somewhat slow, but the waitress was very nice. Their beer was in cans or bottles. I ordered a Head Hunter IPA and it had a date code from the summer, so their stock was a bit old. I split a bowl of crab bisque $15 with my son. It was ok on spices/flavor and had small strips of crab, but the body was on the thinner side and I didn't think it was creamy enough. A miss, plus the guy who brought it out must have had the soup shift on the walk over so he had his thumb on top of the spillage that went onto the rim. I should have sent it back, but we were hungry. The small cornbread muffins that we had before our meals came out were tasty. After discussing the lunch menu with the waitress she said the Yardley Burger was very popular. $19 - roasted tomato, boursin cheese, hand cut fries. My son ordered the chicken cutlet - $18 fresh mozzarella, vodka aioli and chips. He skipped the sauteed spinach that was supposed to come on it. They took awhile to come out. The burger had a ridiculous amount of boursin on it (plenty of herbs and garlic coming off it), the meat was bland and the hand cut fries were a tad soggy. Even the bun was weak, so for $19 they can keep it. My sons sandwich was much better. The vodka aioli flavor was a home run with the thick cutlets. Still not worth $18, but much better than the burger. I had a Yards Washington Porter with my burger that slightly helped my disappointment. This place only gets the 4th star because I love history and the building has it. It was just OK other than that. Maybe a dinner/date night is in order to see what these higher yelp reviews are all about. Their entree prices seem much more in line. For lunch, I'm a no.
