Curry Chicken with Coconut Rice with Black Eyed Peas
Sammi T.

The service here is great and very personable. And the food is superb. I can tell they put much care into everything they do.

Cafe Connection impressed me being my first time! To start, service was wonderful! The staff was very nice and welcoming. I ordered the curry chicken which came with coconut rice and a salad which I got peanut dressing. I thought the salad was good, although I wish it was a cold salad versus warm and mixing into my chicken. The chicken was delicious and tender. The rice was good although it didn't taste like coconut. If you're in the downtown Sac area and looking to try something new, highly recommend this spot! I'll be back!

Absolutely will be returning! The Jerk chicken was Smokey and flavorful and the Chicken curry was rich and savory! Definitely can tell it was slow cooked to perfection. Shared a plate with my husband for lunch and it was plenty to leave us both satisfied.

I've been meaning to stop by Cafe Connection for a long time, but I kept missing them as they're open M-F 11am-3:30pm. It's perfect for the Downtown crowd, but I tend to do more exploring on the weekends. I was walking back to my car after some meetings and saw they were open and took my chance! As I entered, I was greeted with the delicious smell of Caribbean food. When I made it to the counter I asked for their recommendation and ended up getting the chicken curry plate. I also ordered a chicken and a beef patty to take home and got a half sorrel half mint lemonade for my drink. The staff was so friendly and was telling me about all their favorite dishes. I need to come back to try more soon. As I left, I took a sip of my drink and that completely won me over. The Sorrel (hibiscus) and mint lemonade mixed is so flavorful and refreshing. The portion sizes were generous and everything came out to $35.84 after tip and will easily be at least two meals, maybe three. I'm excited for my next visit already!

Curry Chicken Roti Wrap

You've read about the prompt service at the counter - check. You've read about the cleanliness of the shop and the convenient location across from the capitol - check. You've read about the delicious food and ample portions - check. I got a curry chicken roti, which was conveniently wrapped (although it would also be great as a plate). The roti is filled with white and dark meat boneless chicken and potatoes, so it's easy to eat without having to navigate through weird pieces of bone or anything - definitely a plus - and if Keith Lee were to ever drop by, this place would blow up like crazy because the seasoning on everything is excellent. What you haven't read *enough* about is the amazing couple who run Cafe Connection. The fact that this little place has stood the test of time, in and out of Covid, and for 18 years, is simply a testament to Ken and Debbie - some of the most down to earth, warm, and genuine people in the game. They have events and are truly involved in the community. All in all, this is a great spot to get your fix of fast, easy, and very tasty Caribbean cuisine.

I've gone here a few times now and always like to stop by after going to the Cathedral. I haven't tried the other food except for the patty; they have 3 (chicken w\potatoes, ground beef and veggie (which is like the samosa ingredients). All $4.85 each. My favorite is the veggie and chicken. It reminds me so much of an empanada but super-sized. They call it "Patty" in the Caribbean from what I take it. I like the dough, the filling and just how it is the right size for a quick lunch. They provide 1 container of the tamarind sauce however I think the sauce is a little too watery. Also, they will not give you extra if you buy more than 1 patty and will put in the container (see pic) which I think is good for 1 patty. The service can be slow at times when they still have to bake the patties and they run out during the lunch hour. Parking can be tough in this area and if the sauce can be less watery I think it would help. I give this place a 3.5 which rounds to 4.

The Curry Chicken & Jerk Chicken are amazing. Great assortment of drinks. Solid amount of indoor seating available. The hot sauce is phenomenal, but Hot! Recommend giving it a try for lunch!

The jerk chicken burrito was a flavor bomb, 100% worth ordering. But it desperately needed a sauce of some kind to help make it less dry.

They are secretly hiding a gourmet kitchen in there. I only came for coffee, but the food envy was real the second I saw the dishes on the other tables. I ended up ordering the steak and eggs with an iced herbal tea. And what can I say? SO. GOOD. The steak was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the culinary mashup of kimchi and chimichurri was immaculate. I loved it so much I literally couldn't leave without buying a second order to-go for my mom. Yes, THAT good. This is a must-visit if you're in Sacramento. I'm already plotting my return to try their popular Vietnamese coffee.

I didn't want chain coffee today. The Graham coffee w oat milk ... super yummy. The breakfast options were plentiful and creative. After minutes of deliberation... I settled on Chicken Sisig rice bowl. This is much more than a rice bowl! The flavors all popped in my mouth like a song. Not to mention the " made to order" temperature of my dish. I especially appreciated the smiles of the staff. I was greeted with a smile by who looked like she would be the owner. (Her quirky style and sweet but 'bout it demeanor is why I say that) The chef emerged from behind the half curtain with a smile and a look of pride for the dish he was presenting. Even Door Dash guy was greeted with a smile and told " thank you!" The variety of music was on point. I definitely recommend this spot. I will return when I am in the area again!

The banana cream had small bits of banana in it- not too large to mess with the texture, but still yummy and packing a bit of sweetness in each of them! The matcha itself was great, the taste was earthy and not bitter. I downed my drink faster than I'd care to admit. The egg cream coffee was unique and yummy, definitely strong! We recently stopped by Cafe La Vies and ended up having such a fun experience…read more I ordered the banana matcha, which was absolutely delicious. The banana flavor paired surprisingly well with the matcha and made for a really refreshing drink. It was one of those drinks that I immediately knew I'd order again. But honestly, the highlight wasn't even the drink itself. It was the adorable little elephant vessel it came with. They put dry ice inside and then pour water into it, making it look like the elephant is blowing smoke out of its trunk. My daughter was completely mesmerized. Watching her reaction was worth the visit all by itself. What I loved most was that it wasn't just a gimmick. The drink was actually good, and the elephant made such a cute keepsake afterward. It felt like getting both a treat and a souvenir. The café itself had a fun atmosphere, and it was one of those places that felt a little different from your typical coffee or tea stop. Helpful tip: If it's your first visit, order one of the drinks served in the elephant. The presentation alone is worth it, especially if you're visiting with kids. Between the banana matcha and my daughter's excitement over the smoking elephant, this ended up being one of those unexpectedly memorable stops we'll be talking about for a while.

I walk up to the counter and asked for the Mango Sticky Rice and the guy who helped me, idk what his name is had an attitude and was like we're out of it. I'm thinking to myself, sooo if you KNOW you're of something that's popular and on the menu, maybe you should put a sign somewhere stating that it's currently NOT AVAILABLE. Then I had to call back home to let my siblings know that the initial drink they wanted was not available, so they can choose something else and again the guy taking the order wad annoyed. My siblings decided upon the Mangonada with brown sugar boba and the iced Dubai Chocolate Matcha. Unfortunately, brown sugar boba was not available was all out for the day according to the cashier.. but no sign stating that they were sold out. I had to call my siblings again to let them know and ask if they wanted crystal boba as a replacement. To keep the order going while I was calling them, I asked for a mochi waffle and the guy threw his hands up annoyed and was like do you not want the boba for drink? I told the cashier I'll have the crystal boba instead of the brown sugar since it's currently unavailable, and the guy goes with an attitude... soo do you want the crystal boba? I said yess...yes I do. The Iced Dubai Chocolate Matcha was alrightt. It is definitely not all that it is hyped up to be. The drink IMO was just a basic iced matcha with chocolate drizzle on the side of the cup and the pistachio foam that barely tasted like pistachio.
