For state employees I'm not sure if there's a better deal downtown. Getting a full meal for about $10 is unheard of. The service is fast and friendly and the value is incredible. The food is pretty standard, nothing to brag about, but you'll leave full for cheap. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tons of seating with nice views of downtown out of the big glass windows.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's definitely in the lunch rotation Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Marcel's foodie score: 3.7/5

I have been here a few for breakfast and lunch. I have to say, it's one of the best deals in downtown if you feel comfortable going by a security check and being surrounded by state workers go for it I know I do.

Overall: 3.8/5 Food: 4/5 Cleanliness: 3.5/5 Customer Service: 4/5 I got the breakfast scramble. Comes with 3 eggs, and I got all 4 meats: Chorizo, Sausage, Bacon and Ham, plus it comes with a Hash Brown and for $7.60! Hard to find any breakfast for that price. Now keep in mind, this is a cafeteria in the Secretary of State building, so do not expect top of the line restaurant quality. But for an affordable and good food option downtown, you cannot be mad at this place! Solid place to eat downtown!

This place has been one of my favorite places to get lunch! When you walk in, it looks like a cafeteria but don't let that fool you because the food is SO good at such a great price. You can easily be full with less than $10. On days I just want a snack I get their soups of the day for $4. There is also a ton of seats if you want to sit down and enjoy your lunch. You do have to go up to the second floor to get to the restaurant and the security guard check badges. I am not a state employee but I work around the area and I've never had an issue getting to the restaurant. As long as you're wearing a badge they'll let you in.

So I usually go to LaBou when at work but decided to stop here for lunch as people have been bragging about the cafe. I went inside the building and noted it's secure. Must show security your state badge for access and if not a state employee you can sign the visitor log. Walked into the cafe and was a bit lost lol. I looked at the menu to find something to eat. I learned the salads are in the refrigerator and are fresh. Cash registers are in the middle toward the exit area. Staff were friendly and guided me because I was confused lol. My salad was sooo affordable and way cheaper than LaBou. I went back to my building to eat but you can eat in the cafeteria. When I ate my salad, I was sooo impressed by the freshness of everything and was full. I'm definitely coming back when in the office and bringing my peers with me. Can't wait to come back.

This is a hidden gem for state workers looking for reasonably priced food. Just walk into the Secretary of State building and let security you want to go to the grille upstairs. They will ask to check your badge before letting you in. They serve both breakfast and lunch depending on the time you go. I have only tried their breakfast so far. I got the 3 meat (bacon, ham, and sausage) scramble with an extra hash brown for under $9. Definitely can't beat that especially these days.

So my coworker told me to try this place as it was good food and reasonably priced. It is so good! I try and order different things every time but my favorite has been the Philly cheese steak! loaded with meat and cheese! soooo good! they also offer a daily special which I haven't tried but I'm sad I didn't the day they offered meatloaf and mashed potatoes. they also have premade salads and they're loaded with fresh ingredients. I highly recommend eating here and they also have a lot of seating.

I absolutely love coming here for breakfast! It's inside the Secretary of State building. All you need is a state employee badge or photo ID to enter. The Gold Rush Grille is located on the 2nd floor. First you order. Then you pay. I love coming here for the breakfast. Their portions are huge and they have great pricing! I normally get their 2 egg white with mushrooms, spinach, and onions with a side of hash browns or add on bacon and sausage for about $.69 each slice. They have a lot of other items and specials too, I've seen my coworker bring back a HUGE breakfast burrito once for $6 or $7. I've also tried their patty melt and fries.. not the best but was decent. Definitely affordable cafeteria food. The workers are also nice and quick too. There is also a lot of indoor seating here and I've notice it's not ever that busy around 1pm. The seats by the window are always the best!

This is a cafeteria in a State Building, you will need your State work badge to get into the building. The security guards do check your badge as you enter. Overall, this is a solid lunch cafeteria that has your basic breakfast and lunch items. So far I tried the BLAT (Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado and Tomato sandwich) and the Cobb salad. Both made well and the most importantly it was fairly cheap. Most lunch items were around $6-$7 for a full size meal..now that's what I call a deal! Tip: Come before noon if you want to beat the lunch crowd (depending on the day of course)..some days the line can get long. It's only a couple of cooks making the food so it can be a wait depending how long your lunch hour is.

During dinner, the Operations Manager, Michael, stopped by our table to introduce himself and let us know he was available if we needed anything. He checked in with us multiple times throughout the evening, which was appreciated. However, the experience ended on a disappointing note. As we were leaving, we asked about having our parking validated and were told that nothing could be done because they had no validation tickets available. While the food and service were excellent, after spending approximately $2,500 on dinner, we expected that an Operations Manager would have the authority or flexibility to offer some alternative solution. And the way he spoke to his staff was not very nice. Unfortunately, that final interaction overshadowed an otherwise enjoyable evening and left our group feeling that this would likely be a one-time visit.

The hostess was very sweet and sat us at our table right away. Our server was amazing and very attentive. We didn't feel rushed at all and gave us enough time to eat our appetizers and meals. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered for an appetizer the house made focaccia bread and was hot, well seasoned and so fresh. I felt as if it just came out of the oven. The French onion soup was excellent, flavor was on point and soup was hot. The boneless beef braised short rib entree was incredible. I literally licked my plate clean. We did order the bread pudding Togo to eat later since we were so full but didn't care much for it which is a bummer. It was a little dry to me and lacked flavor. I do look forward to coming back! if you haven't tried you must!

The happy hour prices were reasonable and had so many great options. Can't say for certain about the parking situation because it was a close walk from our hotel. We ordered 2 mocktails, the watermelon sugar and basil berry fizz. Both drinks were super sugary and tart, which I ended up diluting with water. Still refreshing and tasty, but I think it was a bit overkill on sugar. For our mains, we tried the rigatoni bolognese, trio of fries, and chicken tenders. All food and drinks for under $50! The portions were massive, especially the trio of fries, which I was not expecting. The sweet potato fries were a bit soggy compared to the other 2, which were significantly crispier. The chicken tenders were ok and probably the least exciting thing we ordered haha. On the other hand, the bolognese was by far the standout! Flavorful, rich, creamy and the cheese pull from the pasta was to die for. Our server was super cool and patient with us, as it was our first time coming here. Totally recommend checking this place out with a group of friends to enjoy happy hour.
