My daughter tried the oxtails for the very first time, and she absolutely loved them! We also started with the deep-fried deviled eggs appetizer, which was fantastic and a total must-try. ​Beyond the amazing food, the atmosphere and team made our meal truly memorable. Miss Pearl (Auntie Pearl) was such a joy, and our waitress, Kim, provided fantastic service from start to finish. To top it all off, we got to briefly chat with the owner, Kevin Johnson, who was so incredibly kind to my daughter. ​We'll definitely be back soon. We learned on our very first visit how good the gumbo is and it's become a must ever since. The people who work here are friendly and you can tell they have a lot of regulars who stop in for food. There's a gravel lot right next to the building and you can take your food to go or enjoy it there. Our food took about 15-20 minutes and then we took it home to enjoy. The portions are definitely fair for the price. They also pack everything well for the ride home. The gumbo is our favorite, it's flavorful and packed with protein like their sausage, chicken, and shrimp and has just a hint of spice. We tried their riblets for the first time and it was a generous portion and we really enjoyed the bbq sauce they used. The mac and cheese is good, but I like mine creamier. It does have a little spice which was nice. The dressing was packed with flavor and we were excited they offered this side because you don't see it everywhere. Their hot water cornbread is definitely something they're known for and is really good on its own or dipped into the gumbo. The Palmer here tastes like Brisk raspberry tea mixed with lemonade, and we really enjoy this twist on it. Overall this spot is a local gem and we love visiting.

I was recommended Tori's Place for their fried chicken so I gave it a shot. I found the lightly crispy skin to be excellent. You can see the herbs and spices that they use in the breading and the taste is outstanding. It's one of the best chicken skins I've had. The combo meal comes with three pieces - a wing, thigh, and drum. You also get your choice of side as well as their hot water butter cornbread. Though I loved the exterior taste of the chicken, I found the inner part to be less quality than I would have liked. Certainly not bad, but I could tell that the actual chicken quality wasn't as high. As fried chicken is, the grease factor is there so expect to use a lot of napkins! The side I chose was mac and cheese, and Tori's doesn't skimp! I found their portion to be very nice. The mac and cheese was also very creamy and soft. It was very comforting to eat. The cornbread was interesting and very large. It wasn't my favorite thing, but it was an interesting bite for sure. Tori's is especially famous for their gumbo, so the next time I go I'm going to give it a try!
