I'm a huge supporter of My sister's house. They are an amazing cause, and as a side note, I would encourage everyone to consider looking into what they do, and if you're philanthropic, this is a worthy cause. If you've been a victim, are a victim, or know a victim of domestic abuse, please reach out to them. When I discovers My Sister's Cafe, I super excited to try their food, especially knowing that it supports their overall cause. Located on the ground floor of an office building, parking is next to impossible. We walked over. I ordered the bahn mi In anticipation of yumminess. Sadly, it wasn't mediocre at best. The actual bread was dry/slightly stale, and the inside of the bread was bare. The ingredients were basic and underwhelming. I found the meat to be over cooked and blah. A great cause, not so great food.

Baun My Sister's Banh Mi Sandwich taste like Indian food and salty sauce was horrible

Ordered BaunMi with chicken. It taste like India with some horrible salt sauce saturated the bun.. not good taste in my opinion. After eating it i smelled like I had been eating gram Marsala.. by the spoon full.

This spot is a gem! Despite its location, it manages to be slightly off the beaten path. I must be hitting it at just the right time because I've never had to wait long for my food. After trying their chicken and pork bánh mì (chicken for the win!), I haven't been able to branch out to the rest of the menu - though their other sandwiches and salads sound yummy too. If you're anywhere near the Tower Bridge or Capitol, don't miss out on this cute cafe only a short walk away. The service is stellar, and it supports a radical cause.

I ordered a grilled chicken chipotle sandwich and it was delicious! Great serving size for the price. Staff was also super informative about the menu. Very easy to order at the outside window where Apple Pay is accepted. Plenty of seating outside as well.

Good basic Asian fusion food at a nice small cafe. I'm glad I had the chance to try this and support My Sister's House. The location is best to walk to in downtown at Capitol Mall next to DOCO. Friendly staff and clean. During this time of COVID-19, pocket hand sanitizers for customers were at the counter, as well as a hand pump next to the register of course. Cute that handmade cards were also for sale. I had a Thai peanut wrap on spinach tortilla with tofu. The wrap was quite large and served cut in half. I liked the generous amount of vegetables--romaine, red cabbage, carrots, cucumber, red onion, and cilantro with some peanuts. The peanut sauce was rather plain, but at least it wasn't too salty or heavy and was clean eating. I might come back to try a different dish and coffee or tea

The Mission behind the program is great... My Sister's Cafe is a program of My Sister's House. It is a private, non-profit organization located in Sacramento. They address the needs of women and children impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking in the Sacramento region mainly serving the Asian and Pacific Islanders. By supporting My Sister's Cafe you are helping provide a safe haven for these women and children. I had the Turkey lunch box. It came with salad, potato chips, chocolate chip cookie and the turkey sandwich. The meal was good and very filling. The individually boxed lunch was a full traditional meal and was given to me free but I'm looking forward to visiting the cafe at their location at the Capitol Mall in Sacramento for other meal options. Looks like they offer a nice variety of gourmet and deli sandwiches including wraps and salads. Business hours are Mon-Fri from 9:00a to 3:00p. Closed on weekends. Review #2057

    Sweet Pork Banh Mi Sandwich

I ended up coming to "My Sister's Café" on a whim since I was craving a decent family-owned and operated deli spot that offers salads and sandwiches. Much of the food that is offered here is Asian fusion which means they have ethnic cuisine including Teriyaki bowls, Pho, Ramen, Chinese Chicken Salad, and my personal favorite, Bánh mì sandwiches. Located at 455 Capitol Mall, this place is adjacent to 5th St. and within walking distance to the Golden 1 Center. Parking can be extremely challenging so it is advised to walk, bike, or take public transportation. The location itself a bit hidden as it is on the bottom floor of a major high-rise building. Once inside, they offer seating but it is quite limited especially during the lunch rush. Many people here order their meals to go. As I am avid fan of Bánh mì sandwiches, I decided to try their "Pulled Pork" offering, This consisted of the traditional toasted Vietnamese baguette served with shredded pork, pickled carrot and daikon, cucumber, cilantro, and jalapeños. Keep in mind, this sandwich was not cheap being priced at close to $9. However, you are in the heart of Downtown Sacramento so this is double of what you'd be paying for a Bánh mì in South Sacramento. I do want to point out that if you "Check-In" on the Yelp app, you can receive a FREE drink of your choice (fountain drink, Snapple, or tea). Since they were extremely busy (which was around 12:30pm on a Friday afternoon), it took nearly 20 minutes from the time I walked inside until the time I was handed my sandwich. I made the short 5 minute walk back to my office and was prepared to see (and taste) what this sandwich was all about. Overall, the sandwich was very well-proportioned and filling. But taste wise, I was not very impressed. The pork did not have much flavor at all nor was it seasoned very well. Had it not been for the mayonnaise and jalapeños for the heat factor, this was be an absolutely flavorless sandwich. The good news is that I definitely got filled up as I ate only half during my actual lunch and eating the other half for dinner. The bad news is I doubt I'll be ordering this again. My rating for "My Sister's Café", just an average three stars.

Kinda menu value of the place

I wish I took pictures of the interior, as it felt so intimate and the seats were comfortable. The food of course, are the stars of the show, and I've never been blown away from how good everything was. The Pad See Ew had a yummy smoky, wok hei flavor that not a lot of places incorporate. The ribeye is cooked perfectly, green curry has a nice coconut sweetness to it. And the laotian sausage, paired with their sauce and sticky rice hits the spot. This place was indeed comforting and my only regret is not trying more items. If you're craving southeast asian cuisine in an intimate atmosphere, I can't recommend this place enough.

The location was a bit odd, as there were barely any other businesses nearby. There is street parking that you can pay for. It's a fairly small restaurant. We were were seated pretty quickly. Service was very friendly. I would say that portions were pretty reasonable. Things we ordered: -Pineapple fried rice: Very fragrant with the char and flavorful. Seasoned very well. We opted for mild spice on this. I would order this again. -Chicken pad thai: Done very well! Some places the pad thai is too sweet, but this one was very balanced and had a good tamarind flavor. Medium spicy was a bit on the spicy side, but perfect for me! Would order this again. -Duck larb: Unique, but I couldn't tell it was duck. My partner enjoyed this more than I did. The portion for the larb was on the smaller side and it came with some lettuce, radish, carrots, cucumbers. -Mee kati ground pork: A very unique dish that not many Thai restaurants seem to have, in which it came with noodles, and a variety of toppings like beans sprouts, lettuce, green beans, peanuts, and cilantro. It came with a fermented curry gravy, and it delicious! I would totally order this again. -Green Thai tea: Quite fragrant and not too full on half and half like some other places have it. It's also not as sweet as another local Thai restaurant. I would actually order this again. -Classic Thai tea: Strong Thai tea flavor, also not too sweet. Overall, Hiso was a great Thai/Lao restaurant and I would totally come back and recommend this place!

Yes, today was our first. I'm a sucker for excellent customer service and Cafe Burma and Mikayla had me at HELLO. LOL NOTE: I DIDN'T DO ANY PRE- REVIEW UPON ARRIVING. The husband wanted a Monday Date night and who am I to say No. What we had: *Planta with Chicken Coconut Dip. This planta is a crossover of naan with Mochi like middle with the prefect crisp served with an amazing Chicken sauce. Yah...will be having this again. Hubby had most of it because I was saving my appetite for what's to come. *TeaLead Salad - Yes its a MUST. The fried seasoned garlic is the secret to why this salad hits the palate in the most perfect way. The dressing is oil based which wasn't over powering or even greasy. The peanut was tastefully done. Yes - I ate most of it. Fresh ingredients in every bite. *Chili Basil Beef - at first glance, it looked like Mongolian Beef but far from the taste. The cumin, ginger and chili flakes gave this dish the wow factor. Mind you, I dislike ginger pieces and didn't come across one piece so they must have used ginger powder which I appreciate. We all know the benefits of ginger and I feel like I got a dose of it without biting into one. *PadThai - we were warned that the Burmese way come with a hint of sweetness and this was definitely true but notoverpowering. Husband enjoyed it, me not so much. The dishes came with extra large prawns. You can tell the prawns we're seasoned first hand before getting tossed into the mix. DRINKS: Husband had the coconut monsoon (rum with coconut flakes and I had Bite Dog HAZY IPA - yum. Prime location - corner of 16th street and J, street parking. Restaurant was clean and with a bar and open kitchen concept. What I would have liked: I wish the aesthetic of the restaurant showcased the culture. Wish the dishes were served in a more traditional serving plates. My eyes eat first so I would have appreciated the extra touch but the TASTE definitely made up for it. Will definitely be back! Need to try a dessert next time. Thanks for having us Chef Burma.
