This spot is a gem! Despite its location, it manages to be slightly off the beaten path. I must be hitting it at just the right time because I've never had to wait long for my food. After trying their chicken and pork bánh mì (chicken for the win!), I haven't been able to branch out to the rest of the menu - though their other sandwiches and salads sound yummy too. A decent cafe on Capitol Mall in downtown. This is a simple restaurant serving fresh, food in a casual, affordable manner. They have moved from their original location in 4th to a new location in 7th. At the new location, there are a few patio tables and chairs for enjoying your food, and the ordering terminal is just a window where you pay and another where you receive your food. The cashier was friendly and patient and good with interacting with different clientele. The Thai Peanut Chicken Wrap I ordered was good and fresh but didn't have anything special. I suppose if you're a fan of Panera but want to support a local business instead, this is a great option. Not only is the food delicious and very inexpensive, but they also have a wonderful training program, so you're supporting an organization that's making a big difference in young people's lives. Friendly staff and clean. During this time of COVID-19, pocket hand sanitizers for customers were at the counter, as well as a hand pump next to the register of course. Cute that handmade cards were also for sale. I had a Thai peanut wrap on spinach tortilla with tofu. The wrap was quite large and served cut in half. I liked the generous amount of vegetables--romaine, red cabbage, carrots, cucumber, red onion, and cilantro with some peanuts. The Mission behind the program is great... My Sister's Cafe is a program of My Sister's House. It is a private, non-profit organization located in Sacramento. They address the needs of women and children impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking in the Sacramento region mainly serving the Asian and Pacific Islanders. By supporting My Sister's Cafe you are helping provide a safe haven for these women and children. I had the Turkey lunch box. It came with salad, potato chips, chocolate chip cookie and the turkey sandwich. The meal was good and very filling. The individually boxed lunch was a full traditional meal and was given to me free but I'm looking forward to visiting the cafe at their location at the Capitol Mall in Sacramento for other meal options. This restaurant is located very closely to the Downtown Commons (DOCO), and right next to the bank as a part of a high-rise building. Might be a little difficult to locate at first but I believe they have a sign out by the sidewalk now. The interior is quite small with limited seating, though I never really had trouble. As yelp advertises, this place is considered an Asian fusion. They serve fresh made food or they also have pre-made food available to grab in the fridge to the left of the entrance. I typically order their banh-mi, which you can't really go wrong with. It's nothing out of the ordinary for me to rant/rave about. I ended up coming to "My Sister's Café" on a whim since I was craving a decent family-owned and operated deli spot that offers salads and sandwiches. Much of the food that is offered here is Asian fusion which means they have ethnic cuisine including Teriyaki bowls, Pho, Ramen, Chinese Chicken Salad, and my personal favorite, Bánh mì sandwiches. Located at 455 Capitol Mall, this place is adjacent to 5th St. and within walking distance to the Golden 1 Center. Parking can be extremely challenging so it is advised to walk, bike, or take public transportation. The location itself a bit hidden as it is on the bottom floor of a major high-rise building. Once inside, they offer seating but it is quite limited especially during the lunch rush. Many people here order their meals to go. As I am avid fan of Bánh mì sandwiches, I decided to try their "Pulled Pork" offering, This consisted of the traditional toasted Vietnamese baguette served with shredded pork, pickled carrot and daikon, cucumber, cilantro, and jalapeños. Keep in mind, this sandwich was not cheap being priced at close to $9. However, you are in the heart of Downtown Sacramento so this is double of what you'd be paying for a Bánh mì in South Sacramento. I do want to point out that if you "Check-In" on the Yelp app, you can receive a FREE drink of your choice (fountain drink, Snapple, or tea). Since they were extremely busy (which was around 12:30pm on a Friday afternoon), it took nearly 20 minutes from the time I walked inside until the time I was handed my sandwich. I made the short 5 minute walk back to my office and was prepared to see (and taste) what this sandwich was all about. Overall, the sandwich was very well-proportioned and filling. But taste wise, I was not very impressed. The pork did not have much flavor at all nor was it seasoned very well. Had it not been for the mayonnaise and jalapeños for the heat factor, this was be an absolutely flavorless sandwich. The good news is that I definitely got filled up as I ate only half during my actual lunch and eating the other half for dinner. The bad news is I doubt I'll be ordering this again. I was there this morning last week, had the white mocha coffee. It was really bitter I had to add three more packets of sugar. The staff are friendly but their selection is mediocre. I wanted to try a new lunch spot. I did not know it's part of a domestic violence support program. Taking that out of my equation for this review. I ordered a tofu banh mi sandwich and a latte. I was told they are "out of espresso" which I found odd for a coffee place but later realized they were closing in 30 minutes -so they may have stopped serving because they cleaned the equipment? The bread on the banh mi was delicious! ( If not for the bread I would give 1 star. ) the tofu was bland- no seasoning. A couple spoons of shredded carrot and jalapeño. They put a bunch of Mayo on the sandwich!!!! I've NEVER heard of this on banh mi or I wouldn't have ordered it. I hate Mayo. Anyway - got back to work and found out that's what I have. So I might be a little biased as a board member reviewing My Sister's Cafe, however having had a zillion meetings here I have watched the growth of this Cafe and all of the menu additions. I've had everything on this menu and hands down the signature item of this place is the Bah Mi, and it comes vegetarian. The Asian flare is infused into some items in a creative way. I recommend going with the specials because they're for a limited time. I'm a big fan of all of the soups. I also really like the tuna because it is light on the mayo. I really like the combo of sandwich with soup or salad. The Chinese chicken salad is a fav! If you are there for breakfast you got to try the quiche. This Cafe is a training program so be patient and know your money is going to help support My Sister's House and survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking and sexual assault. We all eat out. But it feels so personally rewarding when helping fund a non profit addressing such a crucial need. read more

Came here with a friend recently for the first time. I work pretty close to My Sister's Cafe but just haven't had a chance to give it a try. I know it's for a good cause to support My Sister's House which helps women escaping domestic abuse situations. I'm glad they opened this cafe to generate revenue for their non-profit. We came right at noon and there weren't too many people yet, we took kind of a long time to make our choices since there were sooo many options, from sandwiches to salads to wraps to soups. Perhaps there is such a thing as too many choices. Eventually, I decided on a pork banh mi wrap (it had me at "Asian herb infused pulled pork"), and my friend picked the smoked salmon corn chowder (so many different flavors being packed in a little cup, she noted) and an iced cappuccino latte or something like that (I don't know my coffee). They brought us the food faster than I expected based on previous reviews. The wrap was quite delicious although a little too soggy. Oops, I took a couple of bites before I remembered to take a picture. =P Juicy and delicious, gets a bit messy when it starts falling apart, $8.19. I ate it up quickly. And I managed to eat the whole thing in one sitting. It was pretty big! My friend seemed to have enjoyed her soup and iced coffee. We enjoyed our lunch and will probably be back to try other items on this cornucopia of a menu. There's a self-serve lemon water and condiments counter, other than that it's a pretty simple cafe. Again, we were served our food pretty quickly, it didn't take as long as prior reviews seem to indicate, and the cashier was friendly. I like this little café. Their purpose gets my stamp of approval. They seek support for their cause by serving the local people good breakfast and lunch. They specialize in Vietnamese: sandwiches, nonalcoholic drinks, and salads. Don't get the impression it's Vietnamese cuisine only. They do have an excellent array of choose your own sandwich ingredients as well as traditional American style salads. Their sandwiches are HUGE. Just checkout my photo. Their specials are an abundant serving, too. I made 2 meals out of their curry once! They have daily specials, too. Cold case has quick to go meals (mostly snacks and maybe a sandwich or salad or two) and canned and bottled beverages. Free soda, or bottled water or tea upon Yelp check-in! Fyi, plan ahead your potty break, I have no idea where you find the restroom - it's probably in the building somewhere and may require a key. Food has always been fresh & service always great & welcoming. There are limited tables. Maybe 13 total two-three tops. You can put them together to seat a small group, but it's hard to tell if that multiple tables/seats will be available when you come. There is a single outdoor table in the center of the building - free for all within the building, not just the restaurant, so if it's important you sit down, try to come outside of peak hours 12:00-1:30. Great food for a great cause! I'm happy paying a bit more if my money is being donated to charities like My Sister's House. Conveniently located on Capitol Mall, tucked away just enough to miss most of the lunch rush crowds, My Sister's Cafe offers salads, coffee, tea, bubble tea, sandwiches, and wraps. Today I had a Honeydew Milk Green Tea with Boba, and a Chicken Banh Mi sandwich. Might have to give them another chance on the Boba since it was way squishier and softer than I've ever had before, and I'm not sure I like that. The Banh Mi is not the most traditional I've ever had, but it made me miss my old favorite in Oakland a little less, and will be a good substitute while I track down other local Banh Mi spots. They use a very tasty mayo spice spread and the veggies are fresh. Much bigger portions than typical Banh Mi, which was also a nice touch. So I'm not going to be a purist because it was delicious! Just be warned that the sign on the door now states that the cafe closes at 2:30 daily, and although I reported this to Yelp!, it's not showing up on the business page as of yet. My first visit was when I searched boba on yelp. I didn't think that this cafe actually had other things. I like their chipotle turkey wrap and their drinks. You can add boba to any drink (does that include soup?...just kidding). They have different specials each week which they post on social networks. Whenever they have ramen or pho on their special week I like getting that because they are both healthy and yummy. I'm a bit conflicted with this review because My sister's Café is a non-profit that supports My sister's House, organization which helps women escaping domestic abuse situations which is a very near and dear cause for me. With that being said putting their mission aside, the food is just ok and the service though polite, on busy days they are slow and overwhelmed. The pork Banh Mi is not a traditional Banh Mi which is fine but the pork was salty and the mayo was plain mayo and way too much. I drowned it in sriracha and only ate half. The curry chicken salad sandwich was missing something, I can't describe it but it felt like it needed more seasoning or another ingredient. My-co-workers seems to like them a bit more than me. So it could be my taste buds. The service: everyone is very polite and sweet. We have called in orders or just walked in to order to-go, and the few times I have been the turn around time has been over 20 minutes. This café is pretty small so being in and close to business buildings can cause the location to get pretty chaotic and overwhelming. Great Cause but Ok Food/Service.
