Who would have thought that the best crepes in Canada would be found in the English speaking side? This may not surprise many Quebecois since they feel that Canada ends in eastern Ontario, but that's not the point. Cafe Crepe has very good crepes at very cheap prices, and even better, their booze is inexpensive: $5 for a martini! Not since the Reign of Terror has there been a deal this good. I was on two chairs re: number of stars, and went with 4 (instead of the "A-Okay" rating of 3 stars) because you can get a drink here that won't cost as much as your mortgage! Also - hot fresh crepes that actually stopped us jonesing for Paris (for about 10 minutes), and that is saying something. This is not a swank place. It's almost diner-ish... a cafe, as the name implies. The restaurant can be loudish, and the service seems a little crazed sometimes (this last time we had a particularly stupid, "I don't wanna be here, I wanna be partying" sort of waitress), but the combo of affordable booze, perfectly fried fries, and big, tasty, hot crepes is just too good to pass up. read more

Came here on a Saturday morning. They offer cheap breakfasts here until 10:30am, unfortunately for us we got there around 11am so we missed it. We got some savoury crepes instead and here's where things go downhill. The ingredients inside our crepes were decent enough (brie and prosciutto - Costco styles), but the crepe itself was thick and rubbery. I was pretty surprised because the joint always smells of butter AND they call themselves "Cafe CREPE", so you'd figure they'd have the crepe part nailed down pretty well. Sadly the crepes were a sad suckfest and we had to watch everyone enjoying what looked like pretty decent breakfast deals that they just squeaked in at the 10:30am breakfast deal deadline. They should just call this place "Cafe" and drop the "Crepe" part. The night I came here I got the basic Nutella banana crepe, it was delicious and did satisfy my sweet craving, they just put way too much Nutella. The second time I came here I didn't know if I wanted a savoury crepe or a dessert so the girl recommended the stuffed French toast crepe. It almost got 5 stars. It was soooo close. The only reason it didn't is the service. Give yourself a good 15 minutes between getting the bill and having them notice you, but that's the worst of it and here is why you HAVE to go here! I've been going to Cafe Crepe for about a million years. Either a million or the last 8 years that I've lived in Vancouver, I can't remember. I used to be in love with their ham, egg, lettuce, tomato baguette, but since they axed that and traded the egg with swiss (still great but not the same...) I've branched out. They have a ton of paninis to pick from and all of them scrumptious. They don't over do any ingredients in the paininis and they are a meal for the price. Perfect if you're late or just dying for food. Same with the baguettes. Of course, you want me to talk about the crepes, it being called Cafe Crepe and all. Well I wont do it! Just kidding. The crepes are awesome. I stay away from the savoury ones those, they tend to put too much in them and I can't finish them. An overload of spinach or cheese or whatever it is, doesn't let me. I however, drool over the bananas and sugar or any other of the sweet crepes so good. Oh and their burgers. They are gooooood and inexpensive. Try the chicken burger. Totally worth it. I had stopped in here a few weeks ago and grabbed a quick sandwich - it was decent, so I decided to pop in yesterday for lunch as I was in the area and starving. I seriously wish I had decided to go elsewhere. Firstly, I had to wait for an incredible amount of time to be helped - there were two people on, one of which was making crepes and the other was... well, that's just it.... I really don't know what he was doing aside from avoiding having to interact with customers. He finally heads over to start taking orders and made it VERY clear with every look and every word out of his mouth that he hates working there and really didn't care what you wanted. Great... just the person I want making my food. Well, I pressed on and ordered my panini and a cup of soup. I go select a table (none of which were clean) and watched as they proceeded to pump out everyone else's orders who arrived after me. Finally, he starts prepping my food - at which point I hear that dreaded noise of the food industry. Sure enough there was my soup, being reheated in the microwave in a random plastic container. Awesome. They call my number and I approach with caution - he hands me a panini and a to-go coffee cup. I'm confused and ask about my soup to which he replies "yeah... it's in the cup". I know I ordered a cup of soup, but really... isn't that a little weird? The panini was pretty bad - chewy ham and only one olive (on a sandwich that listed olives as one of it's toppings). The soup was palatable if not a little bland. All in all, I left feeling like a jerk for spending money on something so sub-par. Will definitely never go back! Sigh! I love crepes. To be honest I love crepes, Swedish pancakes, pannekooken, poffertjes, and well made pancakes! :) Hubs and I had breakfast here, the special with eggs, bacon, and a choice of crepe. I had the lemon and sugar, he had maple syrup [adventurous guy!]. My scrambled eggs were cooked well and the bacon was good. The crepe was a tad rubbery, which sometimes I really like, even though I know they are not necessarily meant to be that way. But today I was looking for soft flavorful crepe, and the lemon was so slight that I could only taste it in about a third of the bites. Shame. The service was not fabulous. 3 or 4 wait staff, one told us it would be a 5 minute wait in a bit of a stressed tone. there were clearly tables free but needed cleaning. The next lady seated us and was overly stressed, said she hoped we weren't in a hurry since the kitchen was busy and it would be about a 15 minute wait for food. I didn't have a problem with the wait but frankly it was a shame they couldn't own their jobs a bit better and be more positive for their customers. I worked in fast paced retail for over 20 years and the busier you are the better you should be! Don't pass your stress on to your customers please. Got a wait time? I ordered the French toast crepe from this guy who was standing by the register that seem like he didn't want to work there.. lol.. So he took my order and said your # is 76. Okay, so I sat by the window while watching the guy make the Crepe. He opens this container and pulls out a half sheet of pre-cooked Crepe and places it on the heated Crepe making surface. Okay, I'm a little confused, but when you order a Crepe from a place that calls themselves "Cafe Crepe" shouldn't you make the Crepe fresh and how long does it really take to cook the batter? I paid $7.50 for a small Crepe, that was pre-cooked, re-heated and didn't taste like French toast (where's the maple syrup Aye?). As a big fan of cafe-crepe, I was shocked when I was denied access to the washrooms as a member of a group of a bunch of paying customers. I was told that the key had been lost where upon immediately it had re-appeared for others who were not part of a paying group - I am not sure what to make of this. Further when I approached the manager about this situation I was not given her name. It was not until my girlfriend approached her that I was redirected to the owner. Again, I am not sure what to make of this. The owner was forthcoming, but still I cannot help but think that I was discounted as a patron by both the Manager and members of her staff (whom I repeatedly asked for her name). Mediocre at best... Went there and I was a little surprised to see all those different type of crepe and savoury crepes. I was actually born and raised in Paris, France and I have never heard, since stepping a cafe crepe, of savoury crepes of the sort. It's funny to see that North Americans will actually think they are eating authentic French crepes, and why would they doubt it? Some of the waiters have french accents. Nice business marketing but who are you kidding... The sweet crepes are okay but the savoury one are all over the place, their salmon one gave me the run to the bathroom. Service sucks too, the place was half empty when I went there and it took the staff 20 minutes to take out order and another 30 minutes to finally grab something to eat. For crepes! We'd seen multiple Cafe Crepes all over Vancouver and we decide to give the place a try the other morning. Crepes are typically delicious and a big cup of Lavazza coffee sounded great. When we arrived on a weekday morning, the place was pretty much dead. Only 1 or 2 other patrons dining in. Our server was friendly and upbeat so the service here is no complaint. We decided to split one of the large breakfast plates with eggs and bacon along with an order of cinnamon-banana-hazelnut crêpes. The breakfast plate wasn't bad but the hash browns tasted like they were previously frozen. But the main disappointment was the crêpes. I mean....I expected more from the crêpes at a place called Cafe Crêpe. They weren't bad, just boring. The breakfast meal was pretty cheap, under $20 for 2 people including endless coffee. I did enjoy the service overall but I don't think the food was good enough to draw me back. It definitely has a strong touristy feeling but even as a tourist, it's just so-so. read more

In some ways, I want to lean towards 2 stars, and in some ways I want to lean towards 4, so I'll go in the middle here with 3. We went to Cafe Crepe for breakfast before we were leaving to go home and service started off beyond poor. We were seated at the very back of the restaurant (despite there being lots of open tables) behind a pillar so that no one could see us. It took at least 15 minutes for them to take our drink order, and another 15 to get those drinks. Cherie could see that they had been sitting up front waiting to come to us, getting colder by the minute. By the time we finally got them, they brought two regular coffee's instead of one decaf and one regular. When the gal came back with the decaf, Cherie told her that we weren't happy and that we were really tempted to walk out at that point. It was then that another person came and apologized to us, and then they really stepped up their service. There was a miscommunication between the servers and they didn't know who's table we were. They were then great about coming out to make sure we had everything we needed, and they even sent us a complimentary crepe. The food was excellent. I had the prosciutto, egg and brie crepe and it was wonderful. Cherie had the mushroom, spinach and egg crepe, and Margaret had the one of the nutella crepes. The crepe they brought out to us for us to share was the exotic crepe (which had coconut, sugar, grand marnier, and banana) and it was also very good. Also, make sure you pay with either Canadian currency or a card if you're from out of country; they wanted to charge us something like another 1.8% for the exchange rate on American cash. So that is why I lean both ways; service started off crappy and ended up good, and the food was always good. Cafe Crepe has consistently been my safe backup plan for years. I'm a huge fan of their $5 (2 oz) cosmos! I'm pretty sure they used to free-pour, because in the past they just tasted like pure alcohol. Today they actually tasted like cosmos are supposed to, but I still had a pretty good buzz going after. The food has most often been a hit for me. The cheese and tomato panini is deliciously cheesy and salty with a few juicy slices of tomato thrown in. Imagine the fries at McDonald's, but much classier. They're perfectly seasoned with a perfect crispy to soft ratio for all french fry preferences. Today I decided to spice things up and get the nutella and banana crepe with a single scoop of vanilla ice cream. Giggity! SO WORTH the calories! I also had a bite of my friend's crepe, he got the nutella, strawberry and cognac one. Um, flavour explosion anyone? It tasted like a purdy's chocolate was heated up and exploded inside of a delicious crepe. This is officially my favourite place to go drinking after class on Thursdays. I've given this particular Cafe Crepe a star more than its neighboring Granville Street restaurant simply because we were able to get our food in under 30 minutes each time we came here, so yay...! This Cafe Crepe is an 'Express' Cafe Crepe with only a couple of tables inside and out as opposed to the more spacious (not by much) restaurants on Robson and further up Granville street. I have learned to stick to the crepes and nothing but the crepes so help me God at Cafe Crepe, being disappointed only once by a silly decision to order a sandwich. Not as great as the crepe only because well, it wasn't a crepe! Otherwise, the panini's are pretty tasty but if you haven't been, have a savoury or sweet crepe combination and you're bound to be satisfied. P.S. ...get it to go! read more

Not too bad. Theres lots of reviews for this location already, so I won`t say too much other than that my Nutella/Banana/Strawberries added crepe was delicious, and the coffee good too. I liked the semi seedy looking back area as well, a good place to hang out at if you`re a people watcher. Though I suppose the front patio does that job as well. I came here for breakfast and tried their BC crepe (Salmon + spinach + cream cheese). I was skeptical about whether I'd enjoy the cream cheese at first but they weren't as heavy handed with it as I'd thought so it was a good touch. It was pretty quiet at 8:30am when I arrived and I chose to take a seat. The food arrived fairly quickly and the server gave me a glass of water. The crepe was bigger than I expected and I was quite full after eating it. The crepe itself was not too crispy and slightly thicker than the dessert crepes I am used to eating. The absolute worst service experience I've ever encountered! I wish I could tell you about the food but unfortunately it never came... Me and my boyfriend ordered coffee and we both ordered food from a male server. Sat there for 10 minutes and my boyfriends food arrived- still no coffee. I abhor going into the actual restaurant and ordering from the table. It's always too crowded with the tables jammed together in a small, dark space. Pitchers of Hefeweisen for $12.95! All we wanted that day was to enjoy the sunshine on the patio while we sipped the afternoon away. There's no full service at this place, so you have to go up to the counter to order. "1 pitcher of Hefeweisen please." "Are you ordering any food with that?" "No, I just want the pitcher." "I'm sorry but we can't serve alcohol without you ordering any food. It's a new law." Really?! Do I have to get food?? We had just eaten and could not possibly eat anymore. We pondered for a while, and contemplated whether getting food that we likely won't finish is worth the wonderful patio at the corner of Robson and Granville. And so, we got our pitcher, along with a order of the cinnamon sugar crepe. We basked in the sunshine, enjoyed our beer, and finished our crepe because we just paid a whole $4.50 for it. The crepe really wasn't that good. Lack of cinnamon, and the texture and flavour of their crepes have just lost its appeal to me. There's perks to this 'seat yourself' place since you are basically undisturbed on the patio. Maybe I've been spoiled by the amazing crepes whilst living in Germany, but I had a very bland crepe. I had the cinnamon and sugar crepe, and it seemed flavourless; I was chewing, going through the motions of eating it purely due to hunger. My boyfriend enjoyed his ham and cheese one though, so there ya go, maybe I ordered 'wrong'. The prices might seem high, but the secret compensation is the $12 pitchers, large and tasty jugs of beer that seem out of place in such a faux-ritzy pancake parlor. If you're hankering for a pancake, these thin little folded crepes will deliver a decadent satisfaction, something unique and delicious mixed into the downtown series of fast food joints and bar foods. These must be popular when you can have two on the same street and just a block apart. I showed up on a Sunday night and they weren't busy. I ordered 3 crepes to go. They made one at a time. This made me nervous because they made the savory crepe first (which is best eaten hot). Our other two were sweet crepes. The odd thing is that they made the plain (butter & sugar) crepe last. And then top it off - after they gave me all 3 crepes - they then put my fries in to cook. I had to wait another 5 mins for the fries. Then, they put them into a cup and handed them to me. I had to ask for a bag to try to keep the fries warm while I walked back to the apartment. By the time I got back - the savory crepe was warm and went half eaten because it wasn't that good. The dessert crepes were good, but crepes should be eaten hot. They need to come up with a system to make the crepes at the same time as the fries and then pack so the food will stay warm. read more

This was the first place I ever visited the first time I visited Canada, and it felt like a neat introduction. Since then, I've found it a reliably positive experience for brunch. Breakfast is different in that typically, instead of hash browns or other potatoes, you get a crepe of your choice. Since sampling other crepes in Vancouver, I've found that the crepes here are okay... not great, not bad, but okay. Breakfast as a whole is solid and satisfying, without being all that expensive. Staff is quick, attentive and friendly. I'm still searching for that blowaway brunch spot in Vancouver, but until then I know I can count on Cafe Crepe to do a decent job. read more
