This is my new fav spot in Carmel! It does not give touristy vibes (which is much more my style) & has an absolutely beautiful assortment of desserts. From the moment I saw the cannoli shells & house-made filling, I knew it was gonna be good! We were greeted by the owner, & he was so friendly, and clearly has worked hard to make this place special. My only regret is not picking up a cream puff! read more

I was excited to try this coffee from the reviews, yet was deeply disappointed. Purchased a gingerbread latte and an iced mocha. Both were heavily watered down, little flavor, sour. It was a small space and very warm inside. I had to wait outside. It took a very long time to get our coffees and the server was uninterested and did not pay attention. I hope others have a better experience. read more

This was a nice find. The owner said he runs this gelato/coffee shop with his older brother. They get gelato shipped from Italy four times a week. The baker is from Sicily and lives in Monterey now. The affogato $10 was great. You could choose the ice cream flavor! The gelato was $7 per scoop and you can choose only one flavor. The shop has some seating inside, but it's not spacious. Parking in this area can be tough. There is free 2-hour street parking. Next door is a chocolate/candy shop. Fun to stop in after a meal. read more

Decided to swing by for a sweet treat after a lovely dinner around the area. I must say the location was a cute little shop that had a unique character. The dessert selection was marvelous, they had cake slices, gelato, cannoli, etc... I ended up having their raspberry gelato and wow was it perfect. It had a nice sweetness but light texture as you indulged. We also went ahead and tried a slice of their Chocolate Hazelnut cake. It was phenomenal and again the sweetness was perfectly balanced with the chocolate and hazelnut. The last item we ordered, a 3 piece order of mini donuts. A flavor of white chocolate, dark chocolate & milk chocolate. Overall, we spent about $30 so be aware the pricing is a bit high but totally worth the experience. This tiny little place has big taste! I came for the cannoli. They fill them fresh with a choice of traditional shell or chocolate dipped. They also have smaller size, but who wants a tiny cannolo? They don't offer any toppings like crushed pistachios or candied lemon, so bring your own. I went for the traditional. The cookie was crisp with a slight cinnamon taste, just perfect. Nice filling too. This is going as my top local cannoli on my cannoli board. Service was a little slow, but that could have been due to the overwhelmed mother trying to get gelato for all her kids, without them smearing it all over everything. Once they left, a sigh of relief, and the line started moving again. They sell lots of gelato flavors and other desserts. I would have gotten some to go but had a concert to attend. I will definitely return for more and try the pistachio cake I was eyeing on my way out the door. Things are pricey, but hey it's Carmel: that's what you get. read more

We ordered pistachio cake, americano and iced sweetened matcha ! Everything was amazing. Americano, was on point, could taste all the notes. Matcha was prefect, wasn't too sweet which is good because we could still taste the matcha As you come in you are greeted by a variety of beautiful cakes. It has very comfy seating and beautiful paintings hung up making the atmosphere of the place feel very welcoming ! Staff took care of us in short amount of time and provided great customer service. This cute little gelato shop is ran by a father and his two sons and it is just the cutest spot ever! I was craving something sweet and at around 7pm, this was this only spot that was open. This shop has a handful of baked good options and maybe about 10-12 gelato flavors. They had a really interesting one that was a mix of like pistachio, chocolate, and strawberry? I ended up getting the raspberry sorbetto, iced matcha latte, and their chocolate cannoli. The sorbetto was super refreshing and had a good raspberry flavor. The iced matcha was not my favorite, it was more on the bitter side and slightly grainy. The cannoli was really good! It's definitely more so on the sweeter side, but hey, that's dessert for you! What really stuck out was just how personable the owner was. He's definitely the kind of owner that makes you feel like family. read more

This small shop serves up big flavors in many kinds of desserts. We ordered a Napoleon, a Hazelnut chocolate cake, a cappuccino cake and a pistachio ricotta cake. They were each delicious! The creams are so fluffy and the cakes so light, each well flavored. While we didn't try the cannoli or gelato, they look really nice. We ate on rattan benches that line one wall of the shop. While there was a long line, it moved quickly. We certainly enjoyed this after a good day of walking! read more

We got their matcha lattes and they were very underwhelming. They allowed you to pick the sweetner. We got one vanilla and one lavender. Both matchas were very chalky and had no matcha flavor at all!! You could also see all the matcha chunks on the bottom of the cups. We even saw a paper on the wall in the back for "how to make matcha". read more

Stopped by this coffee shop today and while the guys behind the counter were genuinely nice, the drinks and gelato were a bit of a letdown. I ordered an iced matcha (not pictured) and unfortunately, it didn't taste like authentic matcha. It was missing that distinct earthy and slightly sweet flavor. My boyfriend got an iced coffee (also not pictured), which he found to be quite strong. We both requested vanilla flavoring in our drinks, but neither of them tasted like they had any sweetness added at all. We also decided to try a mix of their gelato. One was called a "spinoli," which was a combination of pistachio, chocolate, and strawberry. The other was a mix of vanilla with raspberry. Honestly, neither of these really wowed us, and I'm not sure I'd order them again. Sampling wasn't allowed here. They did have a selection of other desserts that looked interesting, so if I were to potentially give this place another try, it would likely be something from their baked goods instead of the drinks or gelato. Overall, the friendly service was a definite plus, but the quality of what we ordered today wasn't quite up to par. read more

Pistachio ricotta cheese cake - 4.5/5. Very unique and delicious! The pistachio cream was like light and fluffy! The cake itself was moist and thin. The whole cake tasted like a cloud. Lol. I wasn't sure I'd like it and it blew us both away. The flavors are amazing and not overly sweet and heavy like American cakes. It was recommended by one of the owners, lol. His face is on the painted portrait behind him lol. Mocha drink: 3.5/5. My bf typically drinks black coffee so he was being adventurous. Cafe Del Mar offers gelato, cannolis, & small cakes, but I was zeroed in on the cookie case. Priced at about $2 each, it's a hefty price tag for the size, quality, & lack of freshness. I ordered a big enough variety to know there are better bakeries in Carmel: both raspberry & apricot linzers, chocolate crinkle, Italian wedding cookies, & a simple chocolate chip. Polite service, but the side streets surrounding Ocean Ave. overflow with great bakeries so I'll have to bring my dessert allowance to those establishments next time I'm in town. read more

Not sure about the hype of the review. 3.5 stars for me, service was 4 start which brought it up from 3 start to 3.5. Quite an assuming entrance for this little cafe where they sell cookies, gelato and Italian desserts like tiramisu and cannolis. The staff recommended me a chocolate covered cannolis and said they are famous because they fill the cannolis fresh. You only see the shells from the shelf. The shell for me seemed thick but the filling inside is light despite the crystal and thick look of it. But this is not worth a $7 charge. Service is friendly and nice. The drink menu is not that special though. read more

I asked if he had any recommendations, and he suggested the tri tip. I hadn't even noticed it was one of the options, so I was actually glad he pointed it out! I told him to make it however he thought it would taste best since I'm not a picky eater, and he absolutely delivered. The tri tip sandwich was so good! It was packed with flavor, the meat was tender and delicious, and the bread was just right. It ended up being such a great choice, and I'm so glad I took his recommendation. The sandwiches were made quickly, and the customer service was outstanding. He was so attentive, acknowledging everyone who came up to the deli counter while keeping orders moving efficiently. You could tell they genuinely care about their customers. When we checked out, the cashier up front was just as friendly, which made the whole experience even better. The tiramisu was also much smaller than expected and much sweeter than a traditional tiramisu. There was also a small outdoor patio, which could be really charming, but it also looked tired. The wooden tables were weathered, dusty, and in need of some care I know this café is known as an old French café, and I really wanted to love it. I truly hope they invest a little into both the space and the coffee because the location has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, this visit just didn't live up to all the amazing reviews.

The first thing they brought out was bread with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette and, no joke, that ended up being my favorite bite of the meal. The clam chowder was good and comforting, but if you've had chowder in Monterey, you know the bar is pretty high. The calamari was the bigger disappointment. It was chewy instead of tender and didn't have that light, crispy crunch that makes calamari worth ordering in the first place. By the time we finished the chowder and calamari we were full, but we still looked through the menu to see if anything tempted us. Honestly, nothing really stood out. The pasta prices felt steep, and there wasn't a dish that made us say, "Okay, we have to come back and try that." The only thing that really took away from the experience was how close the tables were. I could hear the people next to us whispering and accidentally became invested in a conversation I was never invited to. Overall, it's a cute place with great service and a nice ambiance that's worth checking out if you're visiting Carmel. I don't regret going, but I also don't see myself going back. On the bright side, at least the bread gave me something to remember. Someone in that kitchen deserves a raise for that basket alone.
