    Chicken Pesto
    Claudia A.

The owners are passionate about this place, which I enjoy seeing. There's long lines during peak hours like breakfast and lunch, but the line goes fast. If you're ordering FOOD food, the wait can be long, but it's worth it. If it's sunny, sit outside!! The Madeline was delicious the first day I visited. The Pesto Chicken was amazing the second day. I didn't picture it here, but their Mocha Frap was tasty and light with the sweetness. If you're used to a mocha Frappuccino from Starbucks, it's not going to taste like that - it will taste better and balanced. Definitely hit up this spot!

What a cute place for breakfast. The restaurant is dog friendly. It is located in one of the touristy plazas of Carmel, which is surrounded by a lot of other restaurants and shopping. We arrived early just a little bit past 9. This place was one of the few places that open early. I love that they have both traditional and non-traditional offerings for breakfast such as the breakfast sushi rolls and homemade dumplings. Needless to say, I ordered the breakfast sushi rolls and my husband ordered a quiche and coffee. The breakfast sushi rolls look very much like korean gimbap. It comes with ham/bacon, scrambled eggs, and avocado. Very delicious and creative way to have breakfast. I'd order this again.

We stopped for a late lunch yesterday. We wanted a little soup. The clam chowder was very good and the sourdough bread bowl was a big plus for me! Love the chunks of potato and the little morsels of clams. My friend loved the Tomato Basil soup. She said it was so fresh and delicious. Not acidic at all. The staff is super friendly and I loved eating outside on a beautiful afternoon! Just what we all wanted!

I love the location, downstairs in the mall. Both inside and outdoor seating. Easy to get to, right near the main strip. Order at the counter, get a budget and wait for tire food to come out. And wait. And wait. Took quite a long time for the food to arrive and it didn't seem like it was busy. Some dishes were pretty good, like the ramen. I didn't expect that. Others were so so, like the breakfast sandwich which came out cold. I'd it work would be much better if it was warmer. I will give them credit for having a huge, wide variety menu. Standard breakfast dishes, plus Asian dishes (ramen, rice plate, potstickers), plus Italian paninis, plus sandwiches (Philly cheesesteak, grilled cheese chicken), Mac n cheese, and Greek salads.

Came in and got salads. I got a chicken ceaser salad and my friend got a Greek salad. My salad was simple and the lettuce was fresh. There was not enough dressing which sucked. And then they placed hot chicken on top of good green which made them wilt. The Greek salad had boiled eggs that had unpleasant green/grey ring around the yolk. Food came out fast but I would of preferred Panera over this place.

We had the breakfast sushi and it was incredible. It tasted like a bite of fried rice in every piece. Would highly recommend. The service was great- my dog pooped and I needed hand sanitizer and they gave it to me even though it looked to be for the staff only.

Great place to swing by and grab a coffee. Ordering was quick and easy. There was a bit of noise due to a table of 10 but it added to the characters of the place.

Tucked into a corner of Carmel Plaza is Cafe Luna, a cafe that serves an eclectic menu paired with traditional coffee offerings. Since this is in downtown Carmel, parking is a difficult thing to come by so be prepared to lap a few times before you can find something that sticks. When you arrive at Cafe Luna you're greeted by its many outdoor seats and large menu sign. From ramen to sandwiches and pastries, this place has a very diverse menu, for better or for worse. We arrived with a large party and the ability to find open seating for a group that size was a large plus. However, ordering took a very long time. We understand that we were a large party but even by those standards the process of doing so felt clunky and not efficient. We ordered the grilled chicken sandwich special they were offering, the pastrami panini, a hot chocolate, and a regular latte. Before we touch on the food itself, we have to note that the prices on things here are, quite frankly, ridiculous. Obviously this is Carmel so things are going to be more expensive but for the quality of food that you receive, and also on the principal of the food you're paying for, around $20 for a panini is criminal. Getting our food also took a while. Admittedly, we were part of a large party so it probably wasn't easy getting all that food out but just out of transparency, we did wait quite a bit. Forgetting the price and wait and moving onto the food, it was very uninspiring and bland. The grilled chicken was marinated, which was interesting because when I asked if it had anything done to it they said it was seasoned but this was far closer to chipotle chicken than any grilled chicken sandwich I've ever seen. It was also supposed to come with cheese and while it technically did, the amount they put on it was skeptical. Normally an average sandwich is okay, but at these prices it's a major letdown. As for the pastrami panini, more of the same. The quality of the pastrami was okay and the sandwich didn't taste all that special. The bread was bland and light which didn't add any quality to the sandwich. We turned to the drinks to hopefully add some balance to things, which it luckily did. The latte was decent, the foam and espresso being good enough. The hot chocolate was good, not amazing, but good enough where we didn't feel like it took away from things. Ultimately, this was a very big letdown of a meal. We can tell this place tries and that's better than a lot of other places but the food was just not up to par for what you're shelling out for it.

This is the best restaurant I've been to so far in Carmel by the Sea. The food is very flavorful and made fresh. I tried the beef and kimchi pot stickers, chicken wrap and chicken pesto pasta. The pot stickers are made from scratch. Be prepared for a bit of a wait to get your food. I didn't mind at all. My only issue was with the pasta. The sauce was delish but the noodles were way over cooked. I Will definitely be back to try other dishes.

    Eclair and raspberry cheesecake
    C. B.

This cafe was so good! We got the tuna salad, quiche, an eclair and a raspberry cheesecake. The service was quick and very friendly. My dog and 11-month old baby were with us as well. My dog jumped up and ate part of my tuna salad and the waitress very kindly offered to get us more. We said that was okay and thank you, but 5 minutes later she walked out with an extra bowl of tuna salad. The dessert were also very good, my husband just about went in an ordered a second slice of cheesecake. :)

Excellent food and excellent customer service 10/10. This was the best breakfast burrito I've had! All of the ingredients were so fresh, and the white chocolate mocha was spot on. I'll definitely be back.

My boyfriend (who has a seafood allergy) and I came to Cafe Luna for lunch. We ordered two ramen bowls and their homemade potstickers. When our ramen arrived, we noticed there was fish cake in it. We hadn't mentioned the allergy when ordering, so we understand that part was on us. We let one of the staff members know and politely asked if it could be remade without the fish cake. She took the bowl back to the kitchen, and we assumed it would be corrected. However, when the ramen came back out, it still had fish cake in it. We calmly let another staff member know that we had requested it without fish cake. Shortly after, an older gentleman (who we assume may have been the owner) came to our table to make sure the order was correct. The bowl was returned very quickly, which made us assume the fish cake had simply been removed rather than the ramen being fully remade. Later, when our potstickers arrived, I asked about the ingredients in the house sauce due to a peanut allergy concern. During these interactions, we felt uncomfortable and judged for simply trying to make sure our food was safe to eat. Food allergies are not preferences, they're serious health concerns. The lack of attention and the way the situation was handled made the experience frustrating and disappointing. We left feeling more stressed than cared for, which shouldn't happen when it comes to something as important as food safety.

We found this place through a TikTok video for when we visited Carmel. We ordered a mocha, white mocha, and two breakfast burritos. My sister ordered almond croissant and the breakfast sandwich. The almond croissant was the stand out but everything was delicious. Their giant chocolate cookies are super soft and sweet, but their drinks are just right and not too sweet. The atmosphere is very clean and unique from the lighting to the chairs and tables. The service was super friendly and accommodating, we will return.

Do they have gluten-free bread or gluten-free pancakes or gluten-free waffles?

Sorry, we don't have any ,but we have gluten-free ramen

Do they have a vegan ramen?

Hi Yvette, yes we do. We have miso broth .

Can you walk inside with your dog to order and then sit at an outside table afterwards? I'll be traveling solo with my dog.

    Should be no problem.

Do their ramen broths contain fish or shellfish? We have a family member who is allergic to seafood.

It is a pork based broth, not seafood. But you should ask if they add fish sauce which is unlikely unless it is Vietnamese or Thai

Is this still a "cash only" establishment? Thank you!

No, credit cards were accepted as of a couple months ago. However, during shelter in place they initially were offering food and drinks to go, but seemed to have stopped in April. Future viability unknown.

Is there a veggie broth available for ramen?

I am not sure, but I am sure they can whip up something like this for you if you call in advance. They start serving ramen at 11:00 am. You can call them at: (831) 238-6478.

The Good: * We loved the location--down a set of stairs into a dimly lit, cozy space. * And speaking of cozy spaces, we love that every table is its own private booth. Nothing is more annoying than having to dine with strangers just inches away, in my opinion. * Service was, uhhh, interesting but passable. We actually liked the dude who was following up behind our server, as he seemed like a really cool guy with definite opinions on the food. * Make sure you order their unique take on chips and salsa! Their fried wonton wrappers paired with a deliciously unique ginger pico de gallo were fantastic. * The Fried Fish Cakes (a daily special, so they might not always be on the menu) were delicious and full of flavor. * We both loved our entrées; my Black Bean Halibut was cooked perfectly--tender and flaky--and I loved the funky fermented black bean sauce. Carissa is still talking about her Almond Sea Bass weeks later, so 'nuff said. * The Warm Tempura Banana Sundae was a bit odd but worked in a weird way. We normally skip dessert unless it's something unique, and this certainly fit the bill! The Meh: * Reservations are handled the old-fashioned way: via telephone. * No outdoor dining. The Ugly: * While being underground is part of their charm, as mentioned above, it is definitely not ADA-compliant. So if you or anyone in your party has difficulty traversing stairs, this probably isn't the place for you. Conclusion: Fantastic date-night spot with great service, ambiance, and food. Highly recommended.

The first thing they brought out was bread with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette and, no joke, that ended up being my favorite bite of the meal. I was still thinking about the bread while eating everything else, which probably says more than I intended. The clam chowder was good and comforting, but if you've had chowder in Monterey, you know the bar is pretty high. The calamari was the bigger disappointment. It was chewy instead of tender and didn't have that light, crispy crunch that makes calamari worth ordering in the first place. By the time we finished the chowder and calamari we were full, but we still looked through the menu to see if anything tempted us. Honestly, nothing really stood out. The pasta prices felt steep, and there wasn't a dish that made us say, "Okay, we have to come back and try that." The only thing that really took away from the experience was how close the tables were. I could hear the people next to us whispering and accidentally became invested in a conversation I was never invited to. Overall, it's a cute place with great service and a nice ambiance that's worth checking out if you're visiting Carmel. I don't regret going, but I also don't see myself going back. On the bright side, at least the bread gave me something to remember. Someone in that kitchen deserves a raise for that basket alone.

We had a party of nine. Shortly after we were seated, a party of well-dressed ladies that the employees seemed to be familiar with, so I can only guess they were "regulars", arrived. When we first got there, it was fine, but once the other party arrived, we were completely cast aside. We ordered two cups of coffee that we observed an employee walk around with for 20 minutes, stopping to chat , before he plopped it down on a counter before our server brought it to our table. Needless to say, it was already cold. As far as other drinks, we didn't order any. We all drank water and we weren't offered a refill literally until the end when we were almost done with our meal. They were tending to the other party the entire time. When I saw that the other party received all their meals before we did - even though we were there, seated and ordered before they were, I stopped what I can only guess was the manager (dare I say an owner?) and said, "Excuse me sir, we got here before the other party and they've already gotten their food, and we're still waiting." His response was not, "I'm sorry it's taking so long. Let me check on it." Or "I know it's been a while, your food is coming right out." He actually said to me in an irritated tone, "Well because they got all fried food and you got all grilled!" And walked away. And here's the kicker - all our food wasn't grilled. Most of us ordered salads. Granted one had chicken and one had salmon, but who says this to a customer? I honestly wouldn't have cared so much about getting our food after the other party had he responded differently but for someone in the food service industry to treat a customer that way is just gross; for someone to run a business that way is just gross. I wanted to walk out of there without paying, because honestly, the food was gross and the service made it even worse. We got an order of egg rolls (that were all lumpia wrapper with no meat, by the way), my Caesar salad? Every piece of lettuce in my salad was the core, so I pretty much picked out the chicken, and to top it off we ordered clams, which wasn't even part of the delay because they forgot to include it in the order all together. Don't even get me started about how he couldn't answer the question about the menu. I'm Filipino, and that was an insult to Filipino food and to Filipino hospitality. I have so many family and friends in the food service industry and for this reason, I have never given less than 20% gratuity. I cringed doing that here, but I honestly wanted to leave nothing. That's how bad the taste Edwin's left in my mouth. Do better next time. No matter who enters your restaurant, treat all your customers with some warmth, no matter who they are, even if they aren't your regulars, don't make out-of-towners feel like you're doing THEM a favor by LETTING you feed them. Everyone who enters your doors helps keeps your doors open. They have a lot of restaurant choices in the area. Don't make them regret choosing yours.

Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to that excitement. After being seated with menus, we waited about 15 minutes without anyone checking in, offering water, or asking for a drink order. It honestly felt like we had walked into a private gathering, as staff were engaged in long conversations with other tables. Since we were already pretty hungry and hadn't even received water, we decided to leave, so I can't comment on the food itself. When asking how much longer for our drinks, we were told by our waiter 'I put the order in. It should probably be ready now.' He was not friendly and was not what I expected at all of a Pebble Beach restaurant. We come somewhat often as we only live 30 minutes down the road so this visit definitely fell short. With our tip already being included in the final price, I feel as though the effort from our waiter was as if his service to our table didn't really matter as he was getting his tip either way. The restaurant was not very busy either so it just seemed like a lack of effort. I would like to recognize the busboy as he was extremely attentive and always made sure to clear our table timely. I feel as though he would make a better waiter than the individual we had. The food was subpar for a restaurant of this caliber. My bento box with butterfish came out cold. Overall, I think I would go to Sticks at Pebble Beach instead as we have always had great service there.

Everything was really fresh and prepared well. The restaurant has beautiful vaulted ceilings and great vibes. Only note was the music was all over the place but not a big deal at all. We ordered a lot since we were both very hungry and left satisfied. Starters: Spicy garlic edamame - great flavor and not overly done (5/5) Shrimp & Veggie tempura- perfect amount of batter (5/5) Gyoza (5/5) Mains: Chicken Teriyaki served with miso soup, salad, and steamed rice. (4/5) only because the salad while good had a little too much dressing, not a deal breaker. Sake sashimi 5/5 Tiger roll 5/5 Would definitely recommend as a great sushi spot and will be back!

Spacious interior and a separate room for private party. Agedashi tofu and the sushi rolls (Aspen, Sun and Whole-Hearted) were delicious and I'd highly recommend for a good variety. I appreciated the freshness of the fish, rice to fish ratio and creativity of each roll. They also have vegan rolls. Prices were a little elevated for the smaller portions of sushi - $18 and up for each roll but they were tasty enough. There's 60 min street parking nearby.
