I had never tried Cafe Demetrio before and decided to visit on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, it wasn't a great experience. I really wanted the French toast sliders. When I paid, I mentioned that I'm allergic to nuts, and the cashier then told me I couldn't have anything with French toast because the batter contains nuts. Nowhere on the menu does it state that, which is concerning for anyone with allergies. At that point, I was already disappointed. When we received our drinks, my latte was cold. I even asked the runner if she was sure it was mine, and she said yes. After she walked away, I checked my receipt and it clearly said regular (not iced). Overall, it was frustrating. I'd rather just go to Crema down the street next time. read more

As we were approaching the entrance we could smell the coffee from the outside, immediately we knew the coffee was going to be good. The inside is pretty big and there's outside seating as well. We Came on a Saturday an hour before they close and it was jam packed! Every seat was taken. Customers started to leave slowly and we were able to sit down. We only ordered coffee but the plates that were passing by us looked delicious. The only thing I did not like was that customer service was not the greatest. The server was not nice, and none of the employees were friendly nor approachable. Not once did any of the employees smirk, smile, or say hello to us. We ordered a cafe Leo and a hot latte. The food is good. The service is good as well. I've been coming here for many years. I am a resident, but it is very surprising. They open at 9 AM when most everyone begins their workday at 7 AM. The least you could do is open at 8 AM. I think it is quite lame to open at 9 AM, most people in the area will have to be sitting in their office or workplace by 9 AM. This café was just a 5-minute walk from my hotel, and what first caught my eye was the beautiful architecture. After learning it's the oldest café in Coral Gables, I knew I had to try it before leaving! I ordered a couple of coffees for my husband and me, and the service was incredibly quick. The woman who took my order was so kind and gave me great recommendations--the Cinnamon Toast Latte and the Leo Latte. Both were delicious! I wish we'd had more time to try the food, but that will have to wait until our next visit. The inside is absolutely gorgeous, and the giant tree in the backyard adds such a cozy, welcoming vibe. I'm only in Coral Gables for one day and this was on my list of places to go because I saw that it's the oldest coffeehouse in the city so I'm thinking it's 100 years old! Then I found out that it actually opened in 1997, but the building and its historic architecture was built in the 1920's. Quaint and cozy spot, with seating outside in the patio too. They've got an extensive menu with signature salads and gourmet sandwiches, but I wasn't too hungry, I really just wanted to see the place. Then their strawberry pistachio tart caught my eye, it was the perfect snack. I was so impressed at the presentation too. Look how beautiful the plating is. Well worth the trip here! read more

Came here for lunch. It's a quaint place with indoor and outdoor seating and you order your food at the counter. I went with the Famous Tuna Salad sandwich and soup. The soup was delicious. Perfect balance of flavor. When the tuna sandwich arrived I was a bit disappointed. It looked plain. No mayo, no tomatoes or onions. From the looks of it I could not figure out for the life of me what would make this famous then I took a bite and then understood. The bread had the right crunch and chew. The tuna was absolutely amazing. It was lemony and did not need all the other stuff I was expecting in a tuna salad. It was light and bright. I can't wait to come back for more! read more

Hidden gem! This spot is so unique and full of history. From the moment you step in, it feels like you're taking a step back in time (in a good way)-- the walls are adorned with old paintings and the ceiling has beautiful chandeliers. There's ample seating (large and small tables) both indoor and outdoor. And the outdoor space is beautiful; with a large oak tree above, it feels like you're in a small European town drinking coffee. I went with a friend for late lunch snack and ended up ordering their 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 soup deal. I loved it! I ordered the broccoli soup of the day along with the turkey panini and was more than satiated. I also ordered some of their freshly squeezed orange juice (delicious). Cant miss place for me had an early lunch here in the 1920's era corner building. There is indoor or outdoor seating by a large tree at back, i sat indoors. Had a Demetrio 1/2 ham, cheese, tomato, romaine sandwich on a wheat toast plus a pumpkin soup & chips lunch special in addition to a hot 2% milk hot cappuccino, service was quick, food hot. I have been going to this cafe for a while and decided to write a review today. First off the parking is near the cafe but it is pay for parking just make sure you pay on your app before stepping into the restaurant. When you walk in you must order first before sitting down and you are given a number to put on your table. I ordered a omelette that comes with a croissant, cappuccino, and Belgian waffle which comes with two so you can def share. Marisol was the server that brought me the food and she was beyond sweet and professional. It was a beautiful day to sit outside and enjoy breakfast in this cafe in the heart of coral gables. I've been coming to Cafe Demetrio for over a decade since I used to work in the area. The food is consistently good, I usually have a sandwich and I honestly like them all. My go to drink is the Café Demetrio coffee which has a little chocolate drizzle and whipped foam on top. The ambiance is also really chill and they always have jazzy or low key music on. I've come here for several meetings and to work on my computer, and the only suggestion I have is be prepared for the music being a little on the loud side, so if you get distracted by music, bring headphones. The outdoor garden seating area is also really charming. It's a great option if you get cold easily because indoors can be on the chilly side. read more

I usually come here for business meetings. Their coffee is great. I think I've had them all. I wish they had tea lattes though, like chai or matcha. Love that they have WiFi. The cortadito wasn't my favorite but the orange juice was delicious. Me and my friend shared the French toast sandwich and the Greek omelette. The Greek omelette was surprisingly delicious. I really enjoyed it. The he sandwich was good but I expected more from it . I didn't like that you have to order at the counter and then get your own table. Crunchy, flaky, super buttery layers and a LARGE pastry size paired amazingly with butter, jam, and a brunch item! I've tried the New York City eggs (smoked salmon, cream cheese, chives) and the Greek eggs omelette (feta, tomato, olives) without disappointment. Their brunch plattera are well balanced and come with the croissant or baguette option as well as salty potato quarters. Their coffees are delicious; I recommend the cinnamon toast latte for a sweet kick. The service is quick and food is brought out to you. On a Saturday it was surprisingly quiet, while a Sunday was bustling with a standing line. The interior echoes an old European coffeehouse with a pleasant gated patio and lots of patio seating. The vibes are immaculate. Such a serene feeling. It's never loud/noisy and for the most part the food comes out fast (even if there's a lot of people in the cafe!) I appreciate the service here and the food is just chef's kiss. I got the le classique with scrambled eggs and bacon. I don't like coffee so i ordered the iced vanilla chai (not too sweet) and it never disappoints. Now there are always good memories associated with this place (hanging out with friends, birthdays, meeting new people...) I always enjoy coming to this classic neighborhood staple. I often go for the house specialty, the "Cafe Demetrio," and one I am not over which had malted chocolate...so GOOD. I love the unique decor--it has laid-back elegance. On my last visit, the owners' son shared about their blend of artwork: their mother's love of Peruvian sacred art (which I love) intersects with their father's love of the chess game, as seen in some of the art. The cappuccinos are delicious (they give you a little chocolate heart in the middle!) and the atmosphere is super darling. Their service is also really solid - the line can look intimidating if you get there around 9 when they open, but it moves quickly. I haven't tried any of their food yet, but my friend got a sandwich that she absolutely loved. I think my only complaint is that it isn't open earlier.
