The pancake was the highlight of our meal and service was excellent. The pancake was thick warm and we loved the maple syrup on the bottom. It's setup to share around the table because it's more than one person could eat with a large dollop of butter and flaky salt on top. The Cuban was good but greasy since the bread was thin and my wife loved the avocado sandwich. We would go back and do drinks and the pancake again!
We got in early on Sunday which was nice, didn't feel like we were being rushed at all. The server was spot on with his recommendation of the lechón hash. And might be one of the best cortaditos I've ever had. This place is like fancy Cuban food served in a nicer Dennys. Can't wait to go back and try more!
I've been wanting to try this place due to the hype and let me tell you, I understand it. It truly is that good. The service was great and the food was delicious. It's not your typical Cuban dishes as I initially anticipated but it's their twist on staple dishes and drinks. We were also pleasantly surprised that it was happy hour when we arrived. To drink, I tried the Vanilla Carajillo, which is their take on espresso martini, and it was delicious. I'm not much of a coffee drinker but I enjoyed this drink. Between 6-7 pm, they have 99 cents martini. I ordered one and it was very strong, dirty and delicious. To eat, we tried a few dishes. We first started with Beltran's Bacon. It was the best thickest bacon I have tried. We also ordered the Bao con Croqueta and it was delicious. This twist to bao buns was very interesting but the flavors worked very well together. As the main entree, I had the Plantain Crusted Snapper and it was so tasty. It came with a lot of mojo onions, which I enjoyed. The snapper was cooked to perfection. As a dessert, we tried the Arroz con Leche Blintz and it was so tasty. I've never had anything like this and I loved it. The best way to describe it like a rice pudding in a crepe with fruits on top. I would definitely return to this establishment again and either order different dishes or repeating the ones I tried already because they were that good. The service was amazing as the ladies kept checking in on us. We did have to ask them to replace a cup as there was something in it and they immediately did it. We were there talking for a few hours and not once did we feel rushed. They also provided some amazing suggestions from the menu and I'm glad we listened to them because everything was delicious. I absolutely love when the hype is real for places like Chug's Diner.
If you're walking through Coconut Grove and feel like a sweet coffee treat, the iced café con leche is delicious! You can stop in, order at the counter, and take it on your walk. Or, you can stop and pick one up on your way to the beach! We also love the cozy diner feel of Chug's in the bustling area.
Still a five star from me. Their flan is the BEST!! Words fail me to sum up to do it justice. But I will throw some descriptive words out there, for you to get the vibe - Smooth, decadent, luxurious, heavenly, naughty, silky, authentic, addictive (you get the picture?) .....If you go to Chugs and happen to be lucky enough to sample one, please hit me up and let me know YOUR verdict. Also, I sampled their 99 cent happy hour martinis. You have to purchase a food item for this speciality. Not my fever with regards to taste, but if you want to get a buzz on, and start a drunken night, I recommend!
Had an amazing experience at Chug's Diner in Coconut Grove. The food was packed with flavor and perfectly captured that Cuban-American comfort food vibe Miami is known for. Everything tasted fresh, from the pastries and croquetas to the main dishes, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every plate. The atmosphere was lively, welcoming, and had the perfect mix of neighborhood diner charm and modern Miami energy. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. Whether you're stopping in for breakfast, brunch, or dinner, this is one of those spots that keeps you thinking about your meal long after you leave. Definitely worth the visit and I'll be back again soon.
Great food and service cafe con leche iced coffee was great definitely taste the coffee not an overload taste of milk, the breakfast was great bacon is one of a kind , Chugs Slam is a good choice comes with a bit of everything I'd give it a 8/10. What took the show was the cast iron pancake it was delicious and it's enough for 2-3 people def 11/10. Get there at reasonable time this place gets packed on weekends.
If you are looking for an iconic Coconut Grove restaurant, I present to you Chug's Diner, a critically acclaimed Cuban-American diner founded by Chef Michael Beltran. It first opened in 2019 as a pop up before expanding into a full-service, 70-seat restaurant in September 2021. Chug's is known for its Michelin Bib Gourmand status highlighting restaurants that offer high-quality, delicious food at a great value Chug's menu fuses traditional American diner fare with the flavors of Cuba. I decided to grab lunch after the King Mango Strut Parade. I found seating at the counter but they have comfy looking booths, tables, and outside patio seating too. The menu is broken into sections for brunch, croquetas, pastelitos, snacks/picadera, salad and platters, entrees, sides, and handhelds. A counter in the restaurant sells breakfast sandwiches, pastries, coffee, and beverages to take out customers. I ordered the Diner Burger with lettuce, pickles, Chug's sauce, and American Cheese along with a side of fries. It was a large and satisfying portion of food. I especially appreciated the friendly and caring employees. My server made sure I had plenty of water before my meal came which I really appreciated since I suffering the effects of the heat from the parade. Nothing says Miami more than Cuban cuisine. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the twist Chug's puts on it.
"Tami in Miami" brunch series review! Who doesn't love brunch? Perfect cheat day indulgence with your special friends & loved ones. Today we tried Chug's in Coconut Grove, and SO glad we did! Yep, It's a wait and parking was a b*tch, but we finally lucked out after a few passbys with a great space out front. No RSVP for brunch, so we got on wait list and strolled around the beautiful grove. All good! After about 25 mins, we got a table. Place is comfy & cute, lively. Floors are cement, upscale "diner-esque." Staff is great, menu selections unique and amazing! Don't be shy about asking for recommendations or looking at Yelp photos. WOW!! We got the famous HUGE-mongous pancake, the likes of which I've not seen. Like an actual CAKE size, and we added banana slices & chocolate. It's the perfect moist, yet still fluffy texture, baked like top/outer, sitting in a pool of delicious syrup and yet, not soggy?! SCORE-great choice!! We Could not finish it together. I also tried the chocolate shake and fries--worth it! It's for dipping the perfect light crispy bistro fries in thick chocolate shake. Yaaaassss-brunch nirvana. Hubby got a meal and Americano coffee, pictured here. He loved it, minus the eggs which he said were not cooked over easy to his liking. Oh, well. Not my eating experience, so I can't comment. *Pet peeve: I never like a $4 ice tea that doesn't come with complimentary refills, AND it was small. I also knew enough to ask, so as not an unpleasant surprise afterwards!! Ugh, really? Just charge an extra dollar or two guys and give refills!! I only had croquetas. And they were okay. This is a half review because we were there for 30 minutes. The decor is super cute although it's a little dark. I will be back to taste it and judge more.
The good part - the food was very good. I get why they had the Michelen nod. The iron pancake was a carb of sweet and savory goodness with the salted butter and syrup. The latkes were crispy outside and soft inside and on point with the seasoning. The breakfast sandwich was a winner. The breakfast burrito was solid with great sauce. (TBH The regular breakfast plate was meh but tasty). I would want to try more things on the menu BUT: The what is going on here part - service is not good. As in we had to physically leave our seats to get water several times. And check on our coffee order multiple times. (It came AFTER our meal was done and five reminders). And retrieve standard table items like sweetener and drink menus etc from the bussers station. Our waiter was friendly but the hosts/runners were doing the absolute least. We bussed our own table. The scan to pay and split the check was a nice touch. It made leaving with our just arrived coffee a little easier.
Location is very well taken care of and decorated in a very welcoming lighthearted fashion. The food was great to good. Not everything was at the same level, pancake was insanely good, tried the 50/50 croqueta and the lechon hash. Both were very good but were not anything that would blow your mind away. The reason why this is a 3 and not a 4 is simple. The service. We were sat down. Handed waters. And had other tables sat down and tended to before we were asked if we wanted to order drinks. This amongst the couple of missed requests on the order is the only reason it's getting knocked down a peg. I'd definitely be open to come back and try more
I loved this quick diner spot! Our server was a sweet young girl who helped me pick the snapper. I loved the pickled salad it came with, but I think the fish needed a bit more seasoning itself? Loved their fries so much, I almost ate all my husbands. He enjoyed his patty melt 110%
This place is such a cute spot for brunch, although I think I'm more interested in their regular breakfast menu more, the entrees were more interesting. They also have a martini deal, from Wednesday to Sunday 6-7pm. We had a sizable group, the restaurant has been super accommodating with the arrangement as well, and our server was very attentive. We shared the cast iron pancake as a group and had individual orders as well. I definitely ordered with my eyes with the lechon hash and duck croquetas before even diving into the pancake. I especially loved the croquetas, not a huge fan for the hash but that's a personal thing not liking potatoes that much. I was able to take in a bite of the pancake, which was very fluffy, the syrup was surprisingly not too sweet. I've tried their shaken espresso and a cortadito, both have been great. Strong, not too sweet, perfect for a humid summer day. I think that's the biggest surprise for me, I thought Cuban sweets would be much sweeter. My group has also raved about the breakfast sandwich and harino con huevo (especially if you're vegetarian). read more
I arrived at Chug's around 9:30-9:45 and was able to get a seat at the countertop. Just walking up to the counter top and seeing what everyone was eating I knew I was in for a treat. It was cute inside, it had a very welcoming vibe. I started off with the Mongolian Beef Pastelito. Loved it. It reminded me of a Chinese food Cuban fusion. I would get this again, but I'm really kicking myself for not trying the Guayaba y Queso Pastelito. The Malanga Latkes were AWESOME. It came with a guava apple sauce and a saizon sour cream. These are must get when you visit. Thank me later. The Bao con Croqueta was great. The kimchi slaw paired great with the ham and shrimp croqueta. I also loved that it was in a bao. I'd get this again, but I really want to try the Duck. And you know I had to get the Cast Iron Pancake. It's legit, it's not just a viral menu item. It was soft on the inside and soaked up the syrup, the outside had a nice crust on it. The flaked sea salt was a nice touch. I'm STILL thinking about this pancake and I'm upset that I don't live in Miami because I would have gone back the next day for this. LOVED IT and you will too. I tried my friends breakfast sandwich. I don't remember which one it was, but it was terrific. I had the Short Rib Boliche, which was braised short rib, white rice and an egg. It was great, but honestly, with everything else on the menu I was just whelmed. Next time, and there will be a next time, I'm going for all new dishes because despite leaving there satisfied and full, I have food regret. Small 30 min wait on a long holiday weekend. Service was fast despite busy schedule. Our server was super kind and gave us some recommendations which ended up being delish (the fries!!) The burrito is a really big size and was super tasty. The lechón was so tasty and the tortilla was perfectly crispy. I would maybe pass on the croquetas. Their sauce was amazing but the croquetas themselves were a bit too mushy. Fries were delish! read more

The Thai latte was good, but I had 3 sips and it was gone. The pancake was so yummy it kept me full after 2 slices and the harina con huevo was seasoned well especially if you love grits. There is a wait though during brunch but the wait was worth it. read more
Chugs diner is a wonderful haven in the middle of coconut grove. I love how they stay open later to make sure anyone coming to the grove has a go to spot to fill their hungry tummies. The food is good. You're not going to find award winning meals here. But you will find a friendly face, a clean comfortably restaurant and leave with a full belly and your wallet intact. Delicious food, and definitely see why this is a local favorite!!! We waited about 40 minutes at 1pm on a Sunday for brunch/ lunch. We ordered two pan con bistec which comes with their house fries and a matcha green tea latte with almond milk. The ambience was great we loved the music and the Cuban-American vibe. Chug's is the place who's picture you will find next to the "Miami Diner" definition on the dictionary. It is the perfect mixture of comfort diner food you'd expect with cuban and latino influences that makes for one of the most unique dining experiences I have ever experienced. Theres a special emphasis on their sweets and deserts, as the arroz con leche crepe and the goat cheese flan were the most memorable and shocking plates of the day. Their mamey matcha is one of the clearest examples of hoe effortlessly and succesfuly they are able to blend unique latin touches with popular classics. And for a more expected meal from a diner, "la completa" with added ham and avocado makes for a hearty and delicious meal. All of this is complimented by one of the most amicable service experiences you can find in Miami, all with a cozy yet elevated diner setting that you'll only want to keep coming back to. I truly feel so passionately about this place and believe wether you're a Miami local or a visitor, you should come by and have a taste of their unique offerings. read more
Chug's is a brunch spot in the heart of the Grove serving classic Cuban cuisine. The coffee is good, the food is good, the service is good; what's not to like? I got an iced vanilla latte with oat milk and a la completa for my dish. The food came out relatively quick despite being their usual state of busy. The potatoes were delicious and had perfect crunch, and the eggs were seasoned nicely and made just how I like. We also got their popular pancake to share since it's huge, and that was also soft and yummy. Overall, you can't go wrong at Chug's! read more

This restaurant is busy! We came for brunch last Saturday and there was a 30 minute wait for an inside table. Luckily for us, two people left and we were able to sit at the bar! We watch the barista make coffee and matcha while we caught up. We ordered the cast iron pancake, the Phyllis's broccoli breakfast hash and a side of chicharron. Two of us shared all 3 dishes! Everything was delicious! I really liked the pancake but I can't imagine eating one by myself. We even gave a piece to a guy sitting next to me as he had never had it. We also ordered two mamey matchas, which were incredible! Great company, great food and great atmosphere! They didn't even try to hurry us when there was along wait by the door. I went for lunch during the week and it was fairly busy. Thankfully, we were seated quickly and the waiter came to our table right away. The menu offers a good variety of options. I got the Cuban American sandwich with the salad, which was EXCELLENT! You could tell the food was cooked fresh and the dressing for salad was so good. The reason I'm giving a four star review and not a five star is I wasn't please with our server and lack of attention. All "he" did was take our order, after that never saw "him" again. The food here is amazing and I will absolutely be back when I'm in the area. You can tell they take the food here serious and everything was absolutely fresh. I have wanted to try Chug's Diner for a while, and I was finally able to find a day where it worked. I am so glad that day finally arrived. Chug's is the kind of place that screams comfort for food. There is nothing fancy here. Just beautiful, indoor and outdoor seating in a diner type atmosphere with excellent food and even better service. I must admit that, even in major cities like New York and Miami the parking gods smile on me. As is strangely usual for me, as I drove up to the restaurant on a busy Sunday morning, someone pulled out only steps away from my destination, leaving me a space to pull into. Walked up to the restaurant since they do not take reservations on Sunday mornings and put my name in. I was informed of the wait, which was not a problem because it was a beautiful day to walk around. I peruse the neighborhood, seeing other lovely restaurants and shops before being informed that my table was ready quite quickly. It was a gorgeous day to sit outside, but the first table that opened up was indoors, and it was kind of nice to enjoy the ambience of an old style diner. Perused the menu, which was quite nice, but told I could only order from the brunch menu, which was a little bit restrictive. We ordered La Completa with smoked salmon, a pancake with Nutella and bananas, and a milkshake and french fries for dipping pleasure. Everything was excellent. Service was over the top good. Really enjoyed it and will be back. I always feel I have to explain why I leave four stars instead of five at a restaurant that I love. In this case it is specifically because there was nothing creative about the pancake. They start with an exquisite preparation, but do nothing to make it extraordinary. For example, served with fruit compote and nuts or ice cream and sliced fruit or any other creative arrangement could really elevate the dish, making it both picture worthy and enticing to return to try more options. Despite that minor criticism, I really love this place and will be back and even try other meals here. Oh and don't forget to hold my parking space. read more
So happy to have stumbled upon this place! It was our first time eating at a "Michelin Star" restaurant, so that made it a little extra special. This is a breakfast review - the food came out insanely quick and it was all perfectly fresh. Our server was delightful, answering all our questions and helping us pick out a few menu items. The breakfast sandwich was one of the best I've had... and served on super soft and fresh Cuban bread! The diner vibe was on point too. It was a Cuban American mixed menu. Cute place in a fun location in coconut grove. We had the fresh juice and a mimosa. The mimosa didn't take like pineapple was in it but decent. Little bubbles tho. We had the queso frito, the beltrans bacon, and the skillet pancake.to share and my bf had the completa breakfast too. The bacon was delish crisp and sweet and thick. Lots of hype, but didn't live up to it. I was so excited to try this spot -- it's in a great location at Cocowalk, and I'd heard so much about it. The restaurant itself is pretty small, and we ended up sitting outside. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend that if you're visiting during midday in Miami -- it was extremely hot, even with the large fans they have set up. We ordered the duck croquetas -- those were amazing! Even my boyfriend, who's a plain cheeseburger-only kind of guy, loved them -- that was a win. But the famous pancake they're known for? Totally underwhelming. It was burnt on the outside (which I actually didn't mind -- nice crunch), but the inside was way too mushy. Just not a great texture overall. I also tried the lechón hash browns -- portion was really small for the price, and unfortunately, the lechón was dry and lacked flavor. Overall, aside from the croquetas, nothing really wowed us. A friend and I had attempted to go somewhere else for lunch in the grove but it was closed !! Soo I said I've been to chugs once before and I think we should try it again !! I'M SO GLAD WE DID !! We had ana amazing lunch and I highly recommend it for anyone that wants a diner experience with a real twist !! I was finally able to dine at Chug's (as i've heard so much about it) and I loved it. I had the lechón sandwich my first time, and the lechón hash my second time, both delicious. The lechón hash comes in a metal skillet that mixes a few breakfast items together. The only downside is that they don't accept reservations, so expect to wait at least 20 minutes to sit down (on a regular day). Although I do understand this is probably by design. I was able to sit with my friend at the counter quickly as those are first come, first served. I love that the menu mixes traditional american breakfast with Cuban style/flavor. If you come on a Sunday afternoon, expect at least 1 hour wait. The bar is first come first serve, so we were able to snag a spot there. Extremely friendly service. Cafe con leche is a must, very sweet and strong! We got the pan con bistec and the broccoli hash. Both were large in size and very tasty. The broccoli hash was like a solid broccoli cheddar soup flavor - amazing. Could not recommend it here enough, definitely check it out! read more
