I was never a fan of Cefiore so I didn't cry when that place closed down. Nick H told me that they're opening a new bakery soon and he wanted to ftr the place. We checked out this place during its "soft opening" day. The workers were super nice. They also had free sample; a basket of freshly sliced baguette plus a bowl of cream. Bread with sweet cream..that's a typical Korean bakery. The baguette was so fresh I could eat the whole basket myself. I like how you can see the open kitchen while you eat. I got a deli sandwich with cheese, slaws, turkey and spicy sweet mustard. The mustard with cabbage was the best part. The baguette was fresh. It did get a little messy since sweet mustard squirted out everytime I took a bite. Good thing I had the wrapper covering the table so I didn't really waste the sweet mustard. Mmmmmmmm They will be open at 8 am so you can pick up your freshly brewed morning coffee and breakfast here on the way to work. I know I will be doing that anytime soon. They also sell cookies, donuts, roti (green tea, sweet potato, etc) and ice cream sandwiches. My friend got me some Korean donuts with green tea and red bean fillings. The green tea one was not so good but I did like its red bean donut. I went back again and got its Vietnamese iced coffee. I was skeptical getting Vietnamese coffee @ a Korean bakery located in Japanese Village Plaza. Come on....boy I was wrong. The coffee was good and cold from the first sip to the very last drop. The worker said it would get better when the ice melted a little and he was right. The ice didn't dilute the coffee. Amazing. Strong coffee, super cold and not too sweet. I'm going to let you in on a little secret...Cafe Dulce may not be much of a looker, but it's got serious potential and quite possibly some of the best coffee in downtown! This new diamond in the rough cafe may not completely fit in in Little Tokyo, but let me tell you: These baristas know their stuff. Brewing fantastic beans via LAMILL, Cafe Dulce looks like a strange ice cream shop/bakery type of place and not so much the next hipster coffee shop. However, note the beautiful La Marzocco machine, and fall in love folks! Their barista, Frank, was not only incredibly skillful, but also very knowledgeable about various local roasters and passionate about good coffee. It was great to nerd out with someone about coffee for a while. ;) My vanilla latte was perfection (and topped with a beautiful rosetta), while the boyfriend got a special concoction from Frank that had honey, espresso, milk, and a dash of condensed milk. I tried it, and it was super tasty! The other guy behind the counter was also incredibly friendly, but I regret not getting his name. He somehow got the boyfriend excited about everything in the bakery case, so we left there with 1 Tiramisu cup (which was more of a chocolate parfait, but still good nonetheless), 1 green tea donut w/ cream (AMAZING), 1 blueberry scone (yummy), and 1 sweet brioche (a little on the dry side). It was topped with a soft, sweet white frosting that didn't have much flavor. The Fruity Pebbles were soft and chewy rather than crispy. The donut didn't have much flavor. * Bacon donut hole ($1): Small pieces of bacon atop a very sweet vanilla icing. The very sweet icing didn't work with the bacon. * Green tea donut ($2.50): Their best seller, the green tea donut is a raised round donut. The sugar dusted shell is thin and lightly flavored with green tea and black sesame seeds. Inside there's a generous amount of creamy vanilla custard. Get to know them a little... Find out you really like what they have to offer... Go out with them several dozen times and are totally infatuated... But then they begin to change... And it becomes evident that most of those qualities you loved about that person are no longer present... You try and try to make it work but you know the relationship has run its course, so you part ways... This sums up my rocky relationship with Cafe Dulce. It used to be a joy grabbing espresso here, back in the days when Frank La was slinging the best shots of LAMILL anyone has ever tasted...but then they ended their LAMILL exclusivity in favor of going multi-roaster. Bad idea. In all my experiences since their transitioning away from LAMILL, I can say with confidence that I have yet to enjoy a tasty cup of Verve or Stumptown or whatever is in their hopper any given day. (Despite this, at least it's not $tarbux.) I'm not even knocking them for having less than enthusiastic baristas and staff either. Nowadays, they're some of the most sour people I've ever encountered. Why? I used to tip them very well but they still wouldn't crack a smile! It baffles the mind. I think they have a regular menu for maybe breakfast and lunch, but what is most prominently displayed are their many attractive desserts from individual cakes (like the Asian-French cakes you would find at Bonjour in Gardena) to many sweet buns (like their blueberry roti). I ordered their mocha roll, which looked good and had a good lightly sweet flavor. Unfortunately, it might have been in the refrigerator too long. It was a little too cold and packed. It was not very light or airy. The mocha roti was good though. I have not had these Asian buns that often, but I've found a few that were a little on the bland side. This one was nicely sweet. It was also very light and airy. The outside part was great. It had a nice flavorful crust that was reminiscent of a pancake. Service was quick. Prices were decent. The prices were about what you would expect to pay at a gourmet bakery. Given the quality and portion size, the prices seemed reasonable. I liked their mocha roti and even though I was not a big fan of the mocha roll, I would consider trying some of their other individual desserts. Cafe Dulce occupies a sweet spot in Little Tokyo's Japanese Village Plaza: it has been a fixture in the neighborhood for the greater part of a decade and it serves a variety of delectable treats and refreshing drinks. Despite its small size, Cafe Dulce offers a wide variety of drinks, pastries, and food to whet your appetite. The pastry case is stocked with donuts, roti, churros, breads, and other desserts. There are two vegan options - a coconut donut and a peanut butter donut. They are neither my favorite thing to order nor do they rank among my favorite vegan donuts in LA, but they are a welcome addition thanks to their airiness. The real standout here for me are the churros, which bear more resemblance to dinosaur eggs than the typical cinnamon-covered sticks. They are doughy. They are slightly sweet. They have interesting texture thanks to the sesame seeds and walnuts. The drink menu features what you'd find at other coffee shops in the area with a few unique twists. Drinks prices are on par with some of the fancier drink shops in the area, but won't break the bank as if you were visiting Demitasse. I have several coworkers who frequently order lunch (salads or sandwiches) from Cafe Dulce, but can't say much other than they exist. What's really great about Cafe Dulce is how invested they are in the Little Tokyo community. The Reeces Pieces just had a piece of reeces pieces stuck in the middle like a ham crossiant. The blueberry jam had no blueberries and was off with the flavor. The bread itself, pupusa-ish was delicious. the filling(s) messed it up. The service was top notch. Cafe Dulce is a cute little bakery & coffee shop. I almost passed up on this place. I'm glad my cousins decided to stop in. They have a small but tasty selection of pastries. I noticed there was a coffee bar as well but opted not to try it. The things that stood out- The ROTI's are to die for!! ROTI's are sweet bread with filling inside. I tried the mocha and green tea flavored. Both flavors were delicious!!! My kids split one of the fruity pebble donut. My son ate his as if it were his last meal. My daughter said the frosting was too sweet for her that she ended up throwing it away. When I first stepped into the store I wasn't going to try anything. But after speaking with one of the employees I decided why the heck not?!? I wish I she had worn a name tag just to give her a shout out. Cute little bakery tucked away inside the Little Tokyo center mall. First off, the staff here is super friendly. I immediately felt welcomed, and the ambience of the place is very casual. Bonus: they play good music here, so you can vibe on your own while you wait for your food or coffee. Now I've only tried their donut holes (bacon, and fruit pebbles) and I can vouch that they are delicious and soft! I did wish that there was maple glaze for the bacon donut though - that would make it perfect in my eyes! My friend sent me a photos of the donut holes from Cafe Dulce a few days ago. I realized this was the place when i walked by and saw those fruitty pebbles donut holes. It's a nice little cafe with fun baked goods. I tried the Fruity pebbles donut holes, maple bacon donut holes, koko churro, and green tea donut. Each and every donut was delicious! Green tea donut - This is a green tea donut with green tea cream inside. it was sooo good! Probably the best one here. I've never had a donut like this one before. Very impressed. I looove this little cafe/bakery! :) I passed by it on accident while I was in the area but I just had to check it out because I remembered having it bookmarked on Yelp after seeing the high ratings. I got the Vietnamese style iced coffee as recommended by one of the workers there. It had like 3 or 4 espresso shots in it which was perfect because I had to stay up to study anyway (and it did the trick)! It tasted REALLY good too! Not too sweet and not too bitter, surprisingly. I would definitely get that drink again. I also tried the green tea donut which was delicioussss! I haven't had a donut like that in a LONG time. It reminded me of the donuts in Korea which I love! Way better than the American ones that are way too sweet and sugary. I definitely recommend the green tea donut! I also tried the mocha roti bun which was pretty good but I wanna try the other flavored roti buns next time like the snowcap one which I heard has cream cheese in it! But, I'm not a fan of the whole - Bacon Makes Everything Better theology. I agree to that, most of the time. But, with the sweet and then salty, and the slight, I don't know what the hell I'm tasting here thing, isn't always appealing for me. Nevertheless, it wasn't torture to get it down. I bought the Mini-Me version, it looked more irresistible. Their sandwiches and burgers are worth a try. I had the Pastrami Burger and the Spicy Korean Cheesesteak. Both weren't bad at all. I stood, then stared and stared at the Red Velvet Cupcake, Fruit Tart, and Banana Bread Pudding. Looked but didn't touch. I have to admit, they bake some attractive goodies here. I love Cafe Dulce. This is small little shop in the Village in Little Tokyo. The waiters were super friendly, and really helpful. Just to clarify, a roti is NOT an indian flat bread, but actually a bun with cream filling inside, and a cookie-like layer on top. I was quite confused right then. Cafe Dulce's green tea roti is absolutely freaking delicious. There was a green tea filling inside, which I really loved, and the pastry or the custard wasn't overly sweet. I could taste the green tea flavor, and it had a perfect balance of texture, between the chewiness and the firmness of the crust. Their green tea donut, on the other hand, was not as impressive. It was really oily, and the custard inside was too sweet for me. If I wanted good green tea donuts, I'd go to California Donuts. The last roti I bought was the blueberry roti, and that was pretty good. There was a blueberry jam filling, which wasn't too sweet. My friend tried their churro roti, and she said she liked it a lot. After having dinner around the corner, I wanted something sweet and decided to try Cafe Dulce. Looking through the glass, my choices were limited. Here's what we bought: - Bacon donut hole: real bacon pieces and a super sweet glaze on top. The donut dough itself was soft and chewy, slightly airy. However, when it comes to bacon donuts, I like the Nickel Diner version the best thus far. - Green tea roti: this one sounded good, but it was just alright. It had a crispy exterior and soft interior. Not much taste to it and I didn't feel it was worth the $3. I've read other reviews about it tasting great served warm, but mine was not warm; it was cold. - Sweet potato roti: way better than the green tea roti! There was sweet potato mash filling in the middle which made each bite enjoyable. In regards to seating, there was counter space with stools inside and patio tables with umbrellas just outside the cafe. On a Saturday night, the tables were full. Ok this Hello Kitty pin thing is crazy so after a fun day with fellow yelpers we decided to stop here after checking out the museum our queen dessert Kenzie K wanted to come back here so we all came so i was lucky enough to get the green tea donut which i wanted to try for a long time and it didn't disappoint. Even when we went there was a line but before in the morning when i got here there was a long line about 1 hour to 1 and half hour wait for the Hello Kitty pin which we decided not to wait for since we were hungry for lunch. Other than that i need to come back and try the other donuts like the cinnamon toast crunch donut. I'll have to come back for sure. read more

Amazing breakfast burritos. I grabbed one on my way to work to eat breakfast while I tackled some emails. I ended up getting nothing done because this burrito was so delicious it's like it demanded my full attention. Went back, of course, and have since tried their sandwiches. Unsurprisingly, also amazing. I've had the ham & swiss and the spicy korean cheesesteak so far. I'm sure the others are just as good, but I haven't had my fill of these two just yet. read more

I've never tried a non-Krispy Kreme donut at 9pm before. Traditional wisdom says that Mom-n-Pop bakeries put out the good stuff earlier in the morning and that anything that lasts into the evening #1 Won't be fresh, and #2 Clearly isn't tasty enough to be popular. But when Yelper Liz O and I were in the neighborhood and she mentioned they sell interesting donuts, I was down for walking by and seeing what a donut shop in Little Tokyo looks like. Wouldn't you know it, right as we were walking in they were taking a batch of Green Tea donuts out of the oven. I was sold! Omnomnom. This may have been the most delicate donut of my life. The pastry shell was extremely soft and thin as if it had been baked rather than fried. The custard was warm and extremely creamy with hints of black sesame coming through the underlying light vanilla flavor. The matcha was actually in a layer all of its own, between the shell and the custard, which made for a subtle, not-overpowering bitter green tea taste. On top of all of that, the donut was perfectly sprinkled with a light coating of sugar - just enough to add some sweetness but not enough to draw attention to itself! I must say, it was a very enjoyable donut. Not necessarily a life-changer but good enough that I'll come looking for it next time I'm in Little Tokyo! read more

Stopped by after work for a coffee while in town. Got an iced coffee, green tea donut, and a blueberry roti filled with blueberry jam. I enjoyed sitting outside in the courtyard in the Little Tokyo area to enjoy my coffee, treats and book. The coffee was a great cold brew, the star of the show was the green tea donut. It was light and fluffy, full of flavor with a deliciously subtle and sweet vanilla cream. It was perfection in pastry form and I wouldve eaten five if I could have. The blueberry roti, while good, was no where near the level of tasty the green tea donut was. The filling was tasty but the dough felt dense/bland in a basic wonder bread kind of way. They also had other flavors of roti, donut holes, and other various donuts. Beverage wise they also had tea options that looked tasty. I 100% recommend you swing by for a green tea donut (or 10) and a coffee! read more

Donuts are fresh at 11am, that's the tip that I got from the super duper friendly cashier girl. I like her bubbliness. So whoever you are, good job for making me happy too. I came on a late Thursday night. When drinks were running slow, she made sure that those waiting didn't feel ignored. There's a good deal of selection here if you like donuts and dessert. I opted to try at least a latte as well since this is a cafe after all. Seating is pretty limited. There are tables outside but on a cold night you don't wanna be out there. There's an internet password, so just ask the barista. -=-Dulce Latte-=- This and the regular latte are pretty similar, but the Dulce Latte is so much sweeter. Regular latte drinkers would probably not like this as much since the froth didn't give that enlightening taste that only froth lovers would know. -=-Bacon Maple Donut-=- I had to get one of these because it was my first draw here from what others have mentioned to me. The dabs of bacon sweetened with maple syrup really does make for a great dessert flavoring. I would have probably enjoyed this more if it were hotter, but well, it was like fifty something degrees outside. -=-Fruity Pebbles Donut Hole-=- I actually preferred this to the Bacon Maple Donut. Was super excited to try out this place; my boyfriend loves donuts. He was not as satisffied with their donuts; he thought they were too sweet. I, on the other hand, realllyyyy enjoyed my selections. Who visited: My GF and I Little Tokyo is a place in DTLA full of culture. From the great restaurants to the hard to find asian inspired cultured items, this place is awesome! So, as a true Yelper I gave it a go and this is my review... Location/feel: In the heart of LA, a tiny little location which allows for a true intimate coffee style feel, Well done. I met a young girl by the name of Stella, who was very pleasant and helpful with alllll my questions. ORDERED: Vietnamese Iced Coffee( ranked #2 in LOS ANGELEs). It was truly bold and tasteful, something that is hard to do with this specific type of coffee. The condensed milk and coffee really fuse to balance one another. I truly enjoyed it and recommend it. HONG KONG milk tea was tasteful and must be drank without the lid. The perfect combination of foamy milk and tea. mmmmm.... Bacon doughnut, a true show stopper. I've been to this little cafe a couple times and it is a solid place to go to get a cup of coffee/tea and maybe a little treat. I think what is great about this place is that the prices are very reasonable. There are donuts that are $1 for smaller ones, but you can also get a regular bacon donut for $2.50, which is a steal compared to some other donut places. I got their Iced Dulce Latte and it was good, but not amazing. I think it was a little too milky for me, but I have had other drinks like the hot hong kong milk tea and it was good. read more
