My friend and I were in Tuesday. We had a great experience. Food was great. Lots of choice. My Mexican friend approved of the tamales. Said it was good. I enjoyed everything. Especially, my favorite, the espresso cake. I had gen tso, orange chicken, fried biscuit, crab puffs, I think it's garlic shrimp with shell. My friend very much liked the stuffed crab, the soup. Service excellent. Attentive, nice. Nice restaurant. There's a tree as you leave, good size tree, pink leaves. Also panda Hi and doggie Supreme. Cute. Restroom clean. We felt very welcome. Had a great experience. We'll be back and continue to bring our friends for a great buffet of Chinese food and other delicious foods offered. read more

The way our group was treated was completely unacceptable. We visited with a group of clients who have physical and intellectual disabilities, including individuals with special dietary restrictions and one client with a G-tube. We intentionally take our clients to sit-down restaurants to help them learn and practice proper restaurant etiquette, social skills, and how to appropriately conduct themselves in public. Despite the way our group was treated throughout this experience, our clients remained polite, respectful, and well-behaved. They did not cause a scene, disrupt other guests, or give the restaurant any actual reason to have an issue with our group. From the beginning, the staff was not accommodating or welcoming. Some clients brought their own meals because of dietary/medical needs, and we were initially told they could not eat their own food inside the restaurant. We calmly explained the situation to management, yet one of our clients was STILL not allowed to eat their own lunch. After that incident, this client became so upset that they cried for essentially the entire remainder of our stay. Not once did a manager or staff member acknowledge what happened, check on the client, or offer an apology or concern. That alone said a lot about the level of compassion and professionalism shown toward our group. Most of the food that came out was cold, which was especially disappointing considering the experience we were already having. Then things became even more uncomfortable. One employee, Pan, repeatedly stayed around the private room where our group was seated, walking back and forth and monitoring us. She would literally stand in front of our private room watching our group. Considering the hostess area had multiple cameras displaying different angles throughout the restaurant, I genuinely don't understand what she thought our group was going to do. At that point, it felt like Pan and management were looking for something--anything--to have an issue with our group, despite our clients behaving appropriately. At one point, Pan actually attempted to touch one of our clients who was simply getting up to get ice cream in an attempt to get him to sit down. That was completely inappropriate and crossed a line. Our clients deserve to be treated with patience, dignity, and respect--not monitored and treated like a problem simply because they have different needs. Then came the check. A tip was automatically added to the receipts without any prior notice or consent from our group. After everyone had already paid, Pan insisted in front of our entire group that someone had not paid. She was extremely adamant that she knew who had eaten and that someone was missing payment. We had, in fact, ALL paid. When one of our group members looked at the receipt Pan was waving around, it turned out she was holding a receipt belonging to a customer who had ALREADY PAID. Even after that was cleared up, Pan continued hovering around our group. There is a major difference between appropriately assisting a group with disabilities and making people feel watched, unwanted, and unwelcome. Our clients deserve to go into a restaurant, enjoy a meal, and exist in public without being treated like an inconvenience. What is especially frustrating is that our clients came in to practice appropriate restaurant etiquette, and despite being subjected to what felt like constant scrutiny and disrespect, THEY remained polite and respectful. We were doing exactly what we were supposed to do as caregivers: supporting our clients in being active members of the community. Instead of being met with basic understanding, we were made to feel like our group was a problem. We came in expecting a normal meal and an opportunity for our clients to practice their social and dining skills. Instead, we spent our time advocating for our clients and dealing with behavior from staff that was completely unnecessary. This experience was deeply disappointing and, more importantly, completely unacceptable. read more

We went on a Sunday at lunch time. It was crowded but there was parking 3 rows away from the front door and we were seated right away (2 people). We were greeted warmly and our server was equally friendly despite having lots of tables to serve drinks to & clean up after. The buffet is HUGE! There is everything you can imagine. I like sushi, my husband can't stand it. Not a large selection of sushi, but there was enough for me. Expected Chinese dishes you find in lots of carryout & many you don't. My husband found a long black strand of hair in his ice cream. We notified the female manager and she made it clear that it was normal for a buffet to have hair flying around. We asked that they switch out the ice cream tub for subsequent customers since it's contaminated. They stated they would not be switching it out. When you first go in the lady at the front just guesses our ages she just looked at my daughter and charged her as and adult which is ages 10 and up and keep in mind my daughter is 8 and she charged me as an adult for her also the lady who was serving us our drinks and taking our plates was sweet but then when she brought us our check she went to go clean another table and some other worker went to us and just stared at us until we paid she just watched as my husband was putting the other ladys tip and she just took it. If you are one of us that is in need of a service dog, Cafe East in Humble is not a good choice. Being a vet in need of a service anamial you are made at best to feel to be a second class person. You are made to sit as far away from the food as possible, away from everyone else. my service dog sits under the table, does not beg, and most people don't even know she is there. There are plenty of places in Humble that treat not only vets but anyone in need of help with respect. read more

The spacious setting, delightful aroma as I walked in, and the genuinely friendly staff all added to the positive experience. Contrary to the reviews, the restrooms were clean and well-maintained. I am inclined to believe that people may have misunderstood or overlooked the true qualities of this place. I am even considering revisiting in the future. I love to go to Cafe East every time I visit Houston area. But lately, the customer service is not very good. My husband and I were getting ready to leave and he was waiting for me to use the ladies room before we left and he said the waitress came by 3 times while I was away from the table and asked him how he was going to pay. I promise, my husband does not look or dress like a bum and I was only gone a few minutes. I could tell he was annoyed when I came back. It is not the only time that same waitress has behaved rudely. I remember this past summer, my father was visiting from out of state and we took him to eat there and there was an older couple sitting at the table next to us who had to leave due to medical emergency. The lady's husband had medical issues and was on a walker with oxygen and she got buffet plates for the both of them and had just sat down when he started having an emergency situation. She asked to take the plates with her in a carry out and that same waitress not only caused an issue but kept arguing with them after they told her they didn't care, they would leave their food, and just wanted to pay, they needed to go. She argued with them until someone finally said either you let these people go or call an ambulance. My husband said after that and how they treated him today, like he was a bum, he doesn't want to go back and we won't be having any family get-togethers there any more either. I Don't know what people who bang on this place expect to get. High-end Asian cuisine? No, it's a buffet. And one of the few remaining ones after the pandemic. It offers a TON of variety, with more seafood than you will find at nearly any Chinese buffet. Some of the food is really good, some just good, some "eh". But it is a decent value and you can make multiple trips and always get something different. Overcooking one batch of fried rice or the food being cold 15 minutes before they close doesn't mean they deserve a 1 star review. read more

I am wheelchair bound with the service dog and was refused interest to this restaurant today . I was treated very badly . I asked for a manager and a lady came and I told her that this was discrimination for a disabled person and that this was a Texas law . They cannot refuse interest to a disabled person with a service dog . I called back to get some information in a mail answered the phone and said he was a manager and when I start telling him what happened he passed your phone to a server . I was very hungry and I am wheelchair bound and don't cook that much I asked the lady manager if she could go get some food for me . At first she said no that the customers don't like dogs in there , I told her are you going to listen to the customers or the Texas law . She then told me she will go get the food for me and I told her it's a buffet she don't know what to do that could I stay in back and and try to point things out to her that I want it . She then agreed and was rushing me I'm standing for I couldn't see all of the items it just was a bad experience . When I got to the register my bill was $20 I am on a fixed income I usually pay around 6 to $8 . She that large amount of food and slapped it on my plate which I have pictures of it with juice running over all the food she dipped up . I am going to pursue this further because I Google it and they cannot deny a handicapped person with a service dog interesting to in a public place in Texas and I told them this several times . I had to pay the $20 which I couldn't afford . This is the worst experience at this restaurant I've had in my life . This building should be condemned. The seats are ripped, tiles are falling off the wall, and the floor is stained and miscolored. The worldweary tables should have been retired years ago but are still agonizingly propping up plateful after plateful of the bland and achromatic meat that some of the patrons here seem inexplicably drawn to, no doubt doomed to carry on until they collapse. From top to bottom this place reeks of neglect. It's entirely devoid of passion or joy- from the food itself, to the disinterested management. Cloying pop hits from a decade ago echo loudly through this cavernous mausoleum of american gluttony. Don't be fooled by the word 'chinese' in the name either. They offer the worst version of basically any food you can imagine. Half of the buffet is dedicated to lukewarm pans of mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, french fries, and cheese pizza. All laid out like the cursed, decaying remnants of some child's fevered dream. Another section was dedicated to sushi and nigiri- but as far as I could tell no one was brave enough to venture there. As I walked by, I noticed a single upside down slice of pizza in the middle of the aisle- cheap red sauce bleeding out from underneath it. As though it voluntarily threw itself off the counter in contempt for it's own existence. The desert area was what I imagine taking a tour of Willy Wonka's factory while on a bad acid trip would be like. While matte jello slabs hardened in one corner, in another the shrapnel'd flack of cratered ice cream topping buckets seemed to cover everything. The ice cream machine itself was dirty and bruised, and even the ice cream cones were stale. Look, I could go on and on but you are probably getting the picture. And understand, I am not a buffet or food snob. I've eaten at some dives in my time. I enjoy unhealthy, indulgent food as much as the next guy - every dish i've mentioned here is one I would normally enjoy. But there has to be some primitive level of cleanliness, some baseline of dignity, that we as a society demand. Of the 5 people who ate here with me, 3 felt sick later that night. I've done a lot of reckless things in my time, but eating here ranks near the top. It's not hyperbole to say this is the grossest food establishments i've ever visited and under no circumstances should any self-respecting person eat here. read more

There bbq ribs were delicious, pork egg rolls were great and so was there chicken and broccoli. No stars. But can't post without a star. My family and I came to have lunch, but stopped and got the 2 little ones McDonald's since they do not like Chinese. The hostess greeted us, we asked if it was ok that they have their own food, she said yes and took us to our seats. The waitress took our drink order and brought them back. We, the 2 adults, got our food and before we could eat, another worker told us to leave because of the outside food. We were appalled since multiple workers saw us and never told us it wasn't allowed. We will NEVER eat there again. We called Happy Family Buffet on 1960 and they told us it was no problem at all. They welcomed us with the kids happy meals and treated us wonderfully. We will be taking our business there instead of Cafe East. read more

I love food businesses with free Wi-Fi! Give a person to ignore the one they love while eating! This dining experience was almost a 3 star experience. The food is 3 star worthy. This particular location's food is not that bad in comparison to my normal, Katy location. I was saddened that the service was about a 2 star experience. You have your traditional Chinese food options here. General Tso this, sweet and sour that...nothing really out of the ordinary. I was surprised that they did have stuffed crab, which was actually pretty tasty. You had a nice variety of sushi, soup and desserts as well. No matter how long I live in Houston, I am still surprised to see quesadillas at a Chinese food buffet! All in all, for buffet food, this place will do you right, even though they are kind of pricey. My biggest disappointment is the waiter service. Having your drink refilled at a buffet makes or breaks your experience. When I am up, getting a fresh plate, and looming over my next victims on the buffet, a server should have already refilled my glass. For a place that is so pricey, and ensure that you pay extra by not allowing you to refill your own drinks, they should at least have this part down pact. I had to ask several times for refills. It had gotten so bad that the manager openly started yelling at the waitress in a native language about the refills. The manager just opted to start doing the refills himself.
