This place is so good that when my friends suggest Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food from any other restaurant, I am kinda not interested... I'd just rather have Cafe Elegante!! The best of the best: Their chicken breast kabob and chicken koubideh are magnificent. So flavorful and fresh! Their vegetarian appetizer sampler is BOMB! So yum. Trust me, you need to get this and share it, or if you're a vegetarian, this is the perfect meal choice for you. Their beef luleh and salmon kabob plates are also delicious. *** The man who owns the restaurant is a DELIGHT! So friendly and wonderful and he really takes pride in his business and his customer service. This is so rare these days and is a delightful extra! *** The only thing I would change about this place is the decor... I meeeeaaannnnn... it's kinda dated and could definitely use a refresh. Also, considering that it's always pretty empty when I go there (even before Covid), they should strongly consider downsizing their establishment and moving to a location with more visibility. Their location is in the middle of basically nowhere and can't really be seen too well from the street. But this is just my layman advice; I'm no restauranteur or anything. I was driving around Burbank today, when it hit me - I hadn't had hummus in almost 3 weeks. I'm addicted to hummus. I would try to mainline hummus if I could stand needles. Anyway, a friend of mine came to the rescue and said, "I know a place. Follow me while I ride away on my Yamaha scooter." Enter: Cafe Elegante, a quaint restaurant nestled in the corner of a strip mall in Burbank. 4 words. Hummus, kabob, koobideh, faludeh. All good. We arrived in time for the lunch special, which goes from 11am to 3pm. The lunch specials are quite affordable, all under 9 dollars. The restaurant itself is nice and spacious, and not super busy, which really helps if you're looking to have a decent conversation! Oh yes, the food. The hummus came with a basket of pita bread that was so soft. I'd wager you could make a mattress out of their pita bread - a comfortable, warm, tasty mattress. The hummus itself was pretty good as well. Next, I tried the chicken koobideh, which is made of ground meat. I've had koobideh before that was super dry and overly spiced. That was not the case here. You could tell it was freshly cooked, as the meat itself was still tender and the spices didn't overpower the taste of the chicken. The rice was also prepared well, cooked just right. And now for a pitfall of many many restaurants: Chicken Breast. Initially, I ordered the chicken breast kabob and thought, "Crap, why'd I order that? Everyone overcooks chicken breast." I've never been so glad to be wrong, because that breast was flavorful, juicy, and tender, all at the same time. I know... quantum chicken. For dessert, we ordered faludeh, which is a kind of sorbet with rice noodles and rosewater. Very interesting. It was my first time trying rosewater, and I think I might just like it. And again, to top it all off, the owner/proprietor came out to chat and thank us for coming by. Good stuff! A great experience, overall. Oh, before I go, the waitstaff was awesome. Mmm... This place is a find. There are tons of kabab and middle eastern style food places in Burbank and Glendale, but this one stands out. This is our family favorite. We like it better than Shamshiri and find the quality of the food to be what sets it apart. The atmosphere is relaxing and often you will find that the dining room is empty. Then all of a sudden it fills up. A good part of their business is catering. As to the food, all of the cooked meats (shish kabob, luleh kabob, chicken kabab, etc.) are delicious. Juicy and just the right amount of seasoning. Of course the rice is wonderful. Be sure to try the Stuffed Grape Leaves appetizer and if you have room, the Persian Ice cream which is made from rosewater. Quite a different, but wonderful taste. I had no idea that this little Middle Eastern restaurant literally down the street from me was an absolute GEM!! My friends Jodi and Ann and I had lunch here today, and all I can say is that the owner, Greg, and his staff have insured that this will be the first of many visits for us! JoDeei knows Greg, having worked with him to cater events at her church, but she had never eaten at his restaurant before. As soon as we walked in, Greg greeted us warmly and we were seated. Before we had even finished perusing the menu, our waitress appeared with an enormous vegetarian sampler platter, compliments of the owner, and set it down before us. Nice way to start, and good thing we were hungry. We devoured hummus, tabbouleh, baba ganoush, cucumber-yogurt dip, dolmas (stuffed grape leaves), and more, all accompanied by a generous basket of pita bread. Ann and I chose the chicken breast kabob, while JoDee opted for the beef shish kabob for her entree. The meat was juicy and delicious, and came with a side salad AND a bowl of soup (clam chowder for me, lentil for JoDee and Ann). We ate and ate and felt extremely satiated. The waitress was pleasant and attentive (but not overly so). When we were offered dessert, we all felt too full. However, the waitress disappeared momentarily, then returned with three small servings of baklava--again, she said, compliments of the owner. Well, who could say no to that? We managed to find room for these delicious, sweet, flaky little confections, sprinkled with crushed pistachios and tasting faintly of lavender flower. It was an utterly delicious and enjoyable meal, due in no small part to the warmth and generosity of our host. The three of us made sure to grab menus before we left, as Cafe Elegante also delivers locally. We will return. What a beautiful place. After an exhausting long flight from India, my aunt took me here for a special lunch meal. I know she is a regular here. The restaurant was quiet, peaceful although packed with customers. It had a different inexplicable positivity that was radiating from the warm service, aunt said she is the owner's daughter. A family run business, it is a must have for Chicken and Beef Kebobs. Great on the pocket. I came here today because the 5.95 kabob lunch special pulled me in. then I noticed the name cafe elegante " oh this is the place I keep seeing those ads for in the back of my receipts" So I had to try it. I went with my son, we had the chicken breast Kabob and the beef shish kabob. I was afraid the breast would be dry and over cooked but it was perfect! Cooked just right still juicy but cooked all the way through full of flavor My son loved it too. The owner then came by to comment on how he loved it when kids finished his food cause it means it's good, and it's true. I had the beef cooked medium, " delicious" ! I wanted that one all to myself but my son kept steeling pieces of my beef. so juicy, tender and flavorful. The service was also very friendly they made me feel welcomed and at home. Cafe Elegante has it all in the name! It's a charming little restaurant with twinkling icicle lights tucked in the plaza on the corner of Glenoaks and Lincoln. The music that plays in the background makes you feel like you're eating right out of a scene for a movie. The luleh kebabs are $9 and come with 2 long kebabs, basmati rice and a char-grilled tomato. Theses kebabs are so juicy and flavorful and are some of the best I've had. And each meal comes with pita bread! I would definitely recommend here coming here for lunch because you get the same thing but it's only $6. Cafe Élégante is now my new standard for falafel. I find that it's difficult to find good falafel. Most of the time it's pretty thin, the crust is thick, and the inside isn't great. These were nicely sized, the crust was perfect and thin yet crispy, and the inside was so delicious. My husband got the salmon kebab and again normally I think salmon is tricky to cook but these were phenomenal. We will be making this a regular spot! I am coming here for about 30 years. It is the best Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food I have ever had anywhere and an international travel is my hobby. This place is famous for excellent food: tasty kebabs, rice with sour cherries, veggie platter, e.t.c. and friendly service. You might live in Burbank or near for years and not know about this place because of the the location but people who work nearby know and love it. Many businesses in the area were ordering from Cafe Elegante before going on working at home schedule during the pandemic. It is always nice to see Greg, the owner. He is a very nice and kind person. He works very hard and takes pride in his business. You cannot find a better place for Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food! I am writing this update review to let Yelpers know that during the coronavirus the restaurant is open for take-out orders only and they are great! We are ordering 1-2 times a week and it is always a great experience. I phone in the order and 20 minutes later it is ready to be picked up. There is an ample parking right outside the door. Try it - you will not be disappointed. I am always looking forward to tasty kebabs and rice with sour cherries - my latest favorite there. Cafe Elegante is a lovely little sit down restaurant with a little bit of an upscale feel and great Persian/Mediterranean food. A couple of friends brought me here just before Thanksgiving for a nice working/visiting dinner. They've been here several times and were really looking forward to sharing their wonderful food find with me. And I was certainly an appreciative audience. We all three ordered the Beef Luleh Kebab plates, our usual order at Persian/Mediterranean restaurants and they brought us some warm pita bread and hummus to snack on while we waited. When our entrees showed up, they were quite lovely looking with the bright white of the rice with a contrasting streak of the yellow saffron rice, the brown of the meat, and the bright red of the charred tomatoes. The tomatoes always seem to be my favorite part when they are beautifully charred like this with the skin both red and black and starting to peel back from the warm and tender flesh inside. If it sounds like I've got a little fetish about these tomatoes, you'd be right on the mark! The meat was tender and well spiced, and the rice was done perfectly. I'd absolutely recommend this restaurant if you're in the Burbank area and want to experience some great Mediterranean food in an elegant atmosphere! read more

Several days ago, my wife, a friend (from Burbank who recommended this restaurant) and myself during our visit from out of town, went to this restaurant for lunch which was not too bad, food quality-wise. I paid for the lunch using a VISA card which was taken from me by the wait-person. This was the only time that this VISA card was used and was out of my possession on this trip. A day later, I received an urgent call from my VISA card's Bank Fraud Division, that there was a fraudulent attempt to use that same VISA card to purchase over $14,500 worth of jewelry at a Zale's outlet in Glendale, only a few miles away. I called the restaurant to notify them of this situation, and received an abrupt denial of any responsibility. I will leave it to the readers of this review to draw their own conclusions as to exactly how this fraud attempt at the Zale's jewelry store using my VISA card came about. However, my friend, wife and myself will never return to this restaurant again. read more
