It was my first time going to a Lebanese restaurant and Hayat's Kitchen was spectacular! Hayat's Kitchen located in the center corner of a mini shopping center on the corner of Vineland Avenue & Burbank Boulevard in North Hollywood. Beautifully shaded outdoor patio with lush green astroturf carpeting. The outdoor seating area is dog friendly. The tables are decorated with beautiful placemats, plates and rolled up silverware. The waiter was friendly, placed a basket of pita bread for the table and helped describe some of the Lebanese dishes for me. Ordered an iced tea, fries and a chicken wrap. Went inside of the restaurant to use the restroom and on my way I saw the amazing desserts station, vintage serving trays & gold coffee pots, some classic framed photos of Lebanon on the walls, the kitchen and the indoor dining area. We really enjoyed the food here! The meat especially was really cooked to perfection. They literally cook it outside when you're walking in, and our mouths were watering so much haha. We ended up getting the feast for 2 because it was a great deal to try the meats and get 2 dips. It was all so delicious, with the exception of the pitas that came in a store bought bag. We really loved everything except the pitas. Would have been nice if they were warmed up at least. Everyone was very helpful in the restaurant and we also loved the lemonade with rose water and dessert. They even gave us some ladyfingers on the house. Would definitely return! read more

Awesome authentic Middle Eastern food, came here on a Sunday night, awesome atmosphere. Not sure if it was a private party or standard weekend stuff, a dancer was dancing with music in the back. This was literally the most authentic Lebanese restaurant I've been to in my 5 1/2 years of living in LA. The server chose our dishes for us except for the French fries, and each of the dishes blew us away. The baklavas and other assortment of desserts amazed as well. Across the street from Circus Liquor in North Hollywood lies an oasis tucked into the corner of a mini-mall: Hayat's Kitchen. Serving amazing Lebanese cuisine, the abolute must-get is the Kaak bread with toasted sesame seeds. This bread is made on the spot, fresh from oven to table, and is some of the best bread I've ever had. Everything else was absolutely delicious as well including great hummus, shwarma, and fresh vegetables to round out the meal. I especially loved the stewed fava beans ("Ful"), which were incredibly rich and satisfying. My vegan dining companion was very happy with his options as well. I was treated to free baklava for Mother's Day...thank you! The baklava was fresh and not too sweet, which is hard to find. Hayat's Kitchen in North Hollywood is a homey and authentic slice of the Middle East. I have been to many Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurants, and Hayat's truly impressed me with their warmth, friendliness, and authentic cuisine. While I have never been to Lebanon, I lived in Israel for a year, and I know authentic Middle Eastern food. My friend, whose grandmother was from Lebanon, came with me to Hayat's for dinner, and he said it was the best and most authentic Lebanese food he has eaten, aside from his grandma's. The kibbeh, grape leaves, baba ganoush, falafel, hummus, fresh bread, lamb shank, salad, and rice were all sumptuous, fresh, and delicious. The filet mignon kabab was juicy and tender, cooked perfectly. The cashew baklava melted in your mouth. The rosewater pudding was divine. We also had ghraybeh and ma'amoul, Arabic cookies. The ma'amoul, my favorite dessert, was stuffed with dates and sweet, but not too sweet. The ghraybeh was a "melt in your mouth" shortbread cookie. I loved that one, too. My absolute favorite thing on the table was the kibbeh. They were fried perfectly, the meat was seasoned perfectly, and I loved the roasted pine nuts. I want to go back and have a dinner of just kibbeh and hummus with fresh bread. Our server, Lisa, was as sweet as the baklava. What a love! Wow!! Just wow!! I am amazed and blown away by the experience I just had with eating here. First off, the entree portions are HUGE. I had chose the "beef shawarma," entree platter and paired it with baba ganoush, fattoush salad, and rice. The beef was FANTASTIC!! they also have the meat on display for the thinly sliced cuts and a real fire oven where they smoke/cook the meats. I am very impressed and definitely had to take some leftovers with the portion size. My plate was $24 and my partner also got the chicken and beef skewers. All together our bill was about $65 and WELL WORTH IT. From the moment you enter you are given a whole pita for the table to share. We sat outside but there was inside seating as well and this place is pretty spacious! (To go order) Ordered two shawarmas and baba ganooj and sad to say the $5 baba-j stole the show. The shawarma was uneven on protein packing- one had decent amount and the other was well packed but loose so it was falling all over the place. I think they tried to press it cause it had a crispy bottom but even with a slop of garlic sauce in the middle, it didn't hold it together cause it was sooooooo dry. The $5 eggplant meze came in a large to go plate with pickles but also dry (how?!?). The $3 meat pie was cute but nothing special or nothing a proper pastry place can't beat. My order came with the traditional bag of pita (which is nice but all legit places do this); I'm only mentioning this cause I thought this changed with $3 pita side option on the menu. And they gave me the cute little baklava (2) they hand out as a freebie dessert (but also not as good as it used to be). Really really sad that it's nowhere near what it used to be almost a decade ago when I lived in Noho. I come here almost once every ~ 3 months and look forward to my takeouts when I get the chance, but after being disappointed consistently, not likely. Good luck tho! The portions were very generous (which I don't rate on normally but in these times, it's nice to be able to stretch a meal into two or three). Hidden gem in N. Hollywood. Their falafel sandwich is 12/10. So delicious and fresh. I highly recommend this dish. The staff there is extremely welcoming and nice. I always get the side of garlic sauce (which is SO good). Definitely a go to spot. read more

Pita was served in a prepurchased bag, lots of dessert selection but nothing really hit, worst of all there's customers smoking cigarettes all over the patio. Highly don't recommend for someone with sensitive lungs or anyone who doesn't want to have smoke with their food. The irony is that all of the smoking is in an area with a huge "no smoking" sign. read more

It's a family owned portions are generous, and the food is to die for. It's also very cozy. I love the baklava and I love the hummus the kebabs extremely delicious and out of this world! They have raw meat Kibbeh nayeh which is to die for! They have Sojouk, Mannan, Lubey in oil, foul, fattoudh incredible food, and incredible desserts. I can eat the whole menu.! I take my family that comes from out of town here, especially my picky father, and now he wants to go literally every time he is in LA! It's a little hard to find. It's nestled in the corner on the left hand side in the plaza that it's in. It's across the street from Circus liquor. I usually get the Shawarma plate with half chicken & half beef. I get it with rice (but you have a choice of other sides), humus, and salad! They also give you a whole bag of pita bread (literally) which is amazing. The food is very simple but very well seasoned. At the end of the meal they bring you free homemade baklava drizzled in honey and it's some of the best baklava I've ever had. So delicious and flavorful. Both crunchy and soft and the flavors pair so well together. The ambiance is very casual and the staff is also nice too. We stopped here for lunch in between appointments in the Valley and we have found a new favorite! It was my daughter's first time trying Lebanese cuisine and this was a great place for her to experience something new. Hayat's Kitchen is absolutely delicious. Our server was so friendly and took his time making suggestions and explaining things we were unfamiliar with. We had a combo appetizer plate with all the dips as well as sanbousik. For our entree, we shared a chicken kabob plate. Everything was so delicious and flavorful. The best grape leaves and babaganoush I've ever had! We sat outside and it was a nice, quiet patio on a later weekday lunch. Only downside is there were some men smoking really stinky cigars on the patio, but they weren't right next to us. My second time here and love the food! I got the kabob-shish tawook (chicken). I love that it comes with salad and hummus. You get a choice of a side of fries or rice or for an extra fee garlic fries. They give you a bag of pita and also a side of toum (garlic spread). Everything was delicious. Hayat's is located in a crowded strip mall across from the famous Circus Liquor. Since it was 2pm on a Wednesday, I was able to find a parking spot. I was there years ago and don't remember getting lost trying to find the entrance. I walked into a dark restaurant and was told across the way. I stopped and looked inside the door but it looked like I was walking into the kitchen. There was seating outside and I asked the waitress is there indoor seating and how do I get in? She pointed at the same door I thought was the kitchen so I cautiously went in and it was the entrance. I found my friend! It took a few minutes to get a menu. One waitress came back and took our orders. We finally got our food but no drinks. It had been a while and my friend got up to find the hostess/waitress. She was super sweet and apologized. We both ordered Arnold Palmers and I ordered water also. She brought the drinks and they were awfully dark. Yup. It was just strong iced tea. Took a few to catch her attention (there were maybe 3-4 tables full out of 10) We said we ordered Arnold Palmer and she quickly took the teas back. I said you can just bring a glass of lemonade instead. So she said okay! Again super sweet and apologetic. She said FREE unlimited refills! The table in front of me had a lot of delicious dishes that I've never seen or don't know what they are. They seemed VIP and knew the owners or something. I saw she asked for her pita bread to be toasted. A gentleman had taken the pita. The h/w dropped off another bag of pita bread and the lady said I already got some, I asked for it to be toasted. So the h/w said it's okay you can have extra. I asked the h/w for pita. She said, "OMG this is not your day!" The girl behind me offered her bag but the h/w said no you take it home. She quickly brought us our bag of pita. It's literally a bag of pita bread. I think there were 6 in the bag. I was talking my head off so my friend finished eating before me. She asked for a to go box. The h/w brought it and said save room for dessert. It's in the house since you've had such a bad day. So the h/w brought us a piece of baklava and what she said was like a cream donut. Absolutely amazing! No one else was in the indoor dining area with us. Everyone left. We had to go find her to get the check. She brought us another in house made chocolate to go. She also offered an Arnold Palmer to go. She was absolutely fantastic customer service but I just didn't understand the lack of service because it didn't seem that busy. She was so sweet and the food and desserts were amazing. Classic, tasty Lebanese spot! Portions were comparable for the price and the food all tasted fresh. I ordered takeout from Hayat's tonight for the first time and was pleasantly surprised with the flavors. I ordered the "Grilled Boneless Trout" which .... unfortunately... had many many bones in it. I understand that that's a result of wherever they got the fish from, but still a bummer when you expect boneless. Nonetheless, the flavor was great and it paired perfectly with the rice, salad, pickles, and hummus. We also ordered a couple pieces of Lokum for dessert. Heard about Hayats from a friend who loves good, well prepared food as my wife and I do. Yesterday, we (their were 3 of us) finally had a chance to go to Hayat's in N Hollywood for dinner. Our first time. We didn't maybe order just right because we didn't know that much salad, humus came with the Mixed Grill Plate. We started with the Humus with Meat appetizer which was delicious...got the Garlic Chicken Wings and a Greek Salad to start. All in all...every dish was great...the meats (chicken, steak, ground beef) were cooked perfectly...tender and juicy. Salads were as fresh as they come. The garlic sauce (Toum) was some of the best we've ever tried. The outdoor/covered tables area was casual but nice. Definitely should put it on your places to try. Authentic Lebanese gem tucked away in a North Hollywood strip mall. Feels like I'm back visiting Beirut while eating this delicious and authentic food. I highly recommend you visit either in person or to go. Here's what I recommend you order: hummus and babaganoush of course, taboli and fattoush salad, arias (ground beef between pitta bread toasted crispy), beef sambousek (essentially and empanada), cheese rolls, and the mixed plate of shawarma. When our meals did arrive, they were delicious, particularly the lamb, the mezze, fish and the desserts. I've always appreciated Lebanese food and there's no question I will return to Hayat. One thing to consider: there is a sizable outdoor area for hookah and cigars so bear this in mind. This space is not sealed from the smaller 6 table inside dining room. EOY. read more

Decent good but terrible customer service. Kind of shocking how they made it this far with the level of service they have here. Came to pick up food and was not helped for almost 10 minutes with workers just walking by and ignoring me until I had to flag someone down to pick up my food. The food became cold and bland by the time I ate it. Been coming here for awhile now and wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt but the service has been terrible for too long.
