Cafe Elegante is a lovely little sit down restaurant with a little bit of an upscale feel and great Persian/Mediterranean food. A couple of friends brought me here just before Thanksgiving for a nice working/visiting dinner. They've been here several times and were really looking forward to sharing their wonderful food find with me. And I was certainly an appreciative audience. We all three ordered the Beef Luleh Kebab plates, our usual order at Persian/Mediterranean restaurants and they brought us some warm pita bread and hummus to snack on while we waited. When our entrees showed up, they were quite lovely looking with the bright white of the rice with a contrasting streak of the yellow saffron rice, the brown of the meat, and the bright red of the charred tomatoes. The tomatoes always seem to be my favorite part when they are beautifully charred like this with the skin both red and black and starting to peel back from the warm and tender flesh inside. If it sounds like I've got a little fetish about these tomatoes, you'd be right on the mark! The meat was tender and well spiced, and the rice was done perfectly. I'd absolutely recommend this restaurant if you're in the Burbank area and want to experience some great Mediterranean food in an elegant atmosphere! read more

Several days ago, my wife, a friend (from Burbank who recommended this restaurant) and myself during our visit from out of town, went to this restaurant for lunch which was not too bad, food quality-wise. I paid for the lunch using a VISA card which was taken from me by the wait-person. This was the only time that this VISA card was used and was out of my possession on this trip. A day later, I received an urgent call from my VISA card's Bank Fraud Division, that there was a fraudulent attempt to use that same VISA card to purchase over $14,500 worth of jewelry at a Zale's outlet in Glendale, only a few miles away. I called the restaurant to notify them of this situation, and received an abrupt denial of any responsibility. I will leave it to the readers of this review to draw their own conclusions as to exactly how this fraud attempt at the Zale's jewelry store using my VISA card came about. However, my friend, wife and myself will never return to this restaurant again. read more

I just ate here for the first time. My mom and sister have been coming here for years and often chat with the owner and his daughter. I LOVE businesses where you can be friendly with the owners. The customer service was perfect, so friendly. We just missed the lunch special (which is at a fantastic price). I had the chicken breast kabob. We ordered hummus and the Persian salad. SO good. I haven't a clue about how authentic Mediterranean food should be prepared, but I know that I like the food they serve here. The kabobs are pleasantly seasoned, and overall portions are great. Great food, A+ service! Had the shish kabob special and it was tender, juicy and cooked perfectly to order. The chicken breast kabob is juicy and succulent. They offer barberry topping for the basmati rice, which must be tried! It adds just a smidge of tart, savory goodness! I've dined here many times and the food and service are always fantastic! Lily consistently provides a warm welcome and fantastic service, more restaurants could use a fantastic member on staff like her! no need to go all the way to raffi's place. totally found our new go-to armenian spot. i would have never came here if it weren't for my brother and sister in laws wedding rehearsal dinner. super quaint little family owned place being run by father and daughter. simple lay out and decor but the real good stuff is the food esp when washed down by 6 kotayk's beer brewed from the finest breweries in mt. ararat. beef kabob and chicken kabob are the items we chose to devour this evening along with the usual hummus and ikra which were all top notch. idk if you're supposed to or not but the wife and i slam the shit out of our dishes and sides with soma because its freaking delicious and made everything taste that much better. the rice was perfect, meat from both were tender, juicy and not as tough as raffi's imho and even my daughter was able to enjoy. we'll definitely be back, probably within a week. read more

The food is incredibly fresh and flavorful. The staff is very warm and friendly. You feel like family when you visit. As I was sitting there several regulars came in that they knew by name. My 1st time here, ambience is nice. I ordered a medium beef kabob, it came out a bit well done. Owner also wanted me to try try some of their appetizers and offered me hummus, eggplant dip, Persian salad, yogurt and cucumber dip. The one that i enjoyed the most was their Eggplant dip. Love this place! It's in the Clock Tower on Glenoaks. It's a lovely place to grab a meal with a friend. The place is generally not that crowded so you can actually talk with your friend. The kabobs are delightful; I usually get the beef kabob. Also, they have a discount meal on the Weekdays. The waitress is very friendly and accommodating. If you're in the area, check this place out! I have been going to Cafe Elegante for several years now and I just had dinner there again tonight. The owner, Greg is very nice and always in the restaurant, usually cooking your dinner himself. Their meat is very good and cooked the way you order it. The generous portion of meat comes with rice and a grilled tomato. Their appetizers are all good - I recommend the sampler plate, but it's large so you'd better be hungry. Their hummus and tabbouleh salad are always very good. Their prices are little higher than some other places but the quality of the food is worth it. Yes, there are not usually too many people in the restaurant because they do a healthy take out and catering business but I like it this way. It has given my friends and me a chance to talk with Greg and his daughter Lilly and get to know them. They are very nice people and I am happy that they have a thriving business here in Burbank. Too expensive!!! Only one skewer and the taste is not what I've expected. Zancu chicken has the same and for the same price and is way much better there, I can get more for my money, and more yummy at zancu chicken. Definitely I will not come back to cafe elegante. Besides their service is not good either. I was thirsty and and they didn't even give me a free soda and when I was at zancu they offered me soda while I was waiting for my food! Visited Cafe Elegante for the first time a little over a year ago. I decided to make a return since I was impressed by the value (at least to my memory I was). Anyway, my brother and I visited recent on a Friday, just a few minutes after opening (about 11am). It was empty, obviously. The waitress was familiar, she was the same waitress from my first visit. She was very endearing, with a calm demeanor, and took her time taking our orders. I ordered the lunch special lamb and my brother, the chicken luleh. Both with basmati rice, roasted tomato and lentil soup on the side ($2 extra/ bowl). First out on the table was the lentil soup. It was a small portion, about a cup or so. It was clearly from the night before. The lentils were very soft and the broth was very delicious, however the chef opted to make things speedy and we ended up with lukewarm soup. I understand that throwing away perfectly nice soup is bad for business, but if soup from the night before is being served for lunch the next day I would at least expect it scorching hot. Big disappointment, I cannot emphasize this further. Complimentary pita bread and buttered arrived next. Almost nothing beats free. The bread was warm and the butter made it even better. I love pita bread! Our order took a few minutes to arrive which is fine. The lamb was delicious, juicy. I ordered it medium, when it arrived it was very tender. A bit chewy but not too chewy. Downside was that it wasn't nearly as seared as hoped :( It didn't taste game-y at all, the meat had a slight beef-liver taste (only the second time I've ever had lamb in my life) but it was more than enjoyable. The portions were fair, maybe about 6 ounces of cooked meat. Yummy! The basmati rice was good, I take it that Mediterranean recipe is a bit plain, but coming from Central American rice, this rice left me wanting more. The roasted tomato was cooked very well. It was definitely got all the way through while avoiding a smoky taste. I had a taste of my brother's chicken luleh and was pretty good. A bit dry and oily, but seasoned quite well. Would definitely try in a future visit. Overall Cafe Elegante is slightly above average. Feels very home-y and has a good vibe. Very casual with ample seating. Negative points for lukewarm food and slightly price for the lunch special portions. Would definitely visit in the future! read more

skip this place and go to Cafe Bravo instead No, there's nothing wrong with Elegante, but there's nothing great about it either. The food, service and value are just solidly mediocre. You can get tastier and larger portions for cheaper at any number of places in the area. A funny fact: This is my boss' favorite restaurant, and he thinks the food here is delicious- best he's ever had. But he literally has no sense of smell, because his sinuses were removed. This is a small, cozy cafe that has some sweet people running the place. I have been here twice in the last 8 months I started working nearby and I love this place! The food is good and the prices are great. First time I came, we were asking a bunch of questions and the waitress was so nice. She offered us some samples to help us figure out what we wanted to order. Then the second time I came, we had a different waitress but she was equally as nice and friendly. I came both times after 7 and closed the place down since I was with friends I haven't seen in awhile. Both times, they were in no hurry to rush us out the door. I came here with my grandma once between the lunch and dinner hour and it was delicious. We ordered a little bit of everything: chicken kebab with rice, hummus, and a couple of other dips. Each item was tasty and cooked very nicely. The portions are also very generous. The pricing is super reasonable, especially for the quality of the food. The interior is a little out-dated but it's clean and neat which is always nice. The staff are very friendly and the owner came out to talk to us which is something I always like when eating out. Our office LOVES this place for lunch. They're very friendly. It's never crowded. Good go-to spot when you're trying to please a lot of palates. They have simple, healthy middle eastern fare- basmati rice, a variety of kebobs, hummus, salads, etc. That said, the food is just OK. There's not much seasoning or creativity going on in the kitchen. My uncle on his low-fat, low-sodium, nothing spicy or" interesting" for one's stomach diet could totally eat here. We tried this place for the first time a month ago when this restaurant participated in a fundraiser for my son's band program at Burbank High School. I picked up our order to go and everything was still warm when I got home. First of all, Greg, the owner is very friendly and cheerful - it was actually a joy to interact with him while I placed my phone order and picked up our food. My lamb and beef luleh kabob combo plate was yummy and flavorful. My husband loved his Albaloo Polo (thankfully he shared some of his delicious cherry rice with me) and my son was raving over the beef shish kabob. We got a side order of Garlic sauce and it was magical! We also liked their feta cheese, which they serve with tomatoes. I like this restaurant. It's a hop, skip and a jump away from my house. It's usually very quiet during dinner time. We often have the whole restaurant to ourselves. Pita Bread-Soft and served warm. Falafel-Delicious! Cooked to a Golden Brown color. Crispy on the outside. Soft and moist on the inside. Chicken Combo-Chicken thighs were good, but slightly chewy.
