Used to be a decent place. My friends and I have been customers here for many, many years. We used to order tabbouleh to go for parties. This most recent time, the owner charged us extra for just some extra veggies for the tabbouleh. AND, they didn't even put all the extra veggies we asked for. What a wonderful gem to stumble upon while the hubs and I were out in Burbank!!! I'm so happy we found this on Yelp and discovered it was only 8 mins from where we were. It's located in a cute quaint shopping center. When you enter in, you're greeted with a nice smile from a lovely woman. I forgot her name but remember she is from Brazil and married to the other owner who is from Syria. She suggested several items that were dairy free and meat free. The items were delicious! Everything was so affordable and made fresh. There's also a grocery section and a small area to eat inside and outside. We felt welcomed and appreciated! I could tell she's someone who gets to know the regulars because a guy came in and she called him by name. I just love small businesses! This place is great. We stopped here because my daughter needed to use the restroom. The service and hospitality was out of this world. The owner is Syrian Christian and explained the backstory of all the dishes. For example, the Armenian coffee had cardamom in it and that's a traditional Syrian Christian way to make it. It was so good, I've never had Armenian coffee that good. They brought us a bunch of dishes on the house just so that we could try it! The food is delicious and fresh. I can't praise Zaatar Factory and Bakery enough! First of all, the owner Samuel is the friendliest guy and super warm. He loves introducing new customers to his food. My boyfriend and I went in to try his catering offerings as they were going to cater my mom's memorial service. I was interested in Zaatar because the food is very similar to the food of Sephardic Jews from Greece, where my mom's family was from. Everything we tasted was delicious! The cookies we had for dessert were wonderful and almost identical to the ones my grandmother used to make. Listening to Turkish music while we sipped our espresso completed the whole experience. We also met Samuel's wife Fabiana who was lovely. Zaatar did a wonderful job catering the celebration for my mom and all the guests kept commenting on how much they loved the food. I look forward to catering another event with Samuel and I know I'll be back soon for more of those amazing Turkish cookies! read more

We are having an event catered by Zaatar next weekend so we went in to taste some of their food. The Owner Samuel and his wife Fabiola just started bringing us samples to try. Assorted bureks, all of them good. A bunch of other stuff. So much food. And some Turkish coffees as well. We tried the date cookies and sweet cookies and added those to the catered event list. You mean to tell me this fantastic Syrian bakery has been around for over 10 years and I'm just now finding out about it? Why isn't this place making front page news on LA newspapers?? I had a trip to the Burbank area for errands and wanted a simple quick breakfast that was also open that early since it seems most places are not opening until 10 or 11 due to COVID (can't entirely blame them!) Tucked in the corner of this small shopping center is Za'atar Factory, an amazing Middle Eastern bakery and market serving a ton of varieties of everyone's favorite boregs, manaish, pastries and more. I was immediately greeted by a very kind and friendly worker who asked if I had any questions and if I was new since she had not seen me before. I looked at the case actually not expecting them to be hot still and ordering the za'atar & cheese boreg along with first the potato, egg, cheese but that was not made today (my luck!) so I opted for just the potato since it was smaller and the former was already a BIG boreg. As I mentioned earlier, to my surprise they were still so hot and fresh!! Typically middle eastern bakeries may have a warming tray or just sit out for a while which isn't a bad thing since they last at least a couple days but these were straight from the oven which was amazing. The zaatar and cheese was so dense, fluffy, soft, and had a super thin but crispy crust surrounding the boreg. The bread had such great flavor that it really shows the effort and authenticity where not to skimp on the dough flavors. The balance of zaatar and cheese was perfect, I tore that boreg open to a stretch of cheese held together by all the zaatar. The zaatar was fresh and offered the nice nutty, fresh herbal notes that it should! Easily one of the best boregs and manaish (or combination I guess!) I have had. The potato boreg was also good, but I will say it's not one I would order again. The dough on this was thinnner and crispier with a nice crunch on the crimped edges. The filling was also different than what I'm used to - typically potato boregs or anything has more of a "paste" filling whereas this had a mixture of diced potatoes and a very creamy mashed potato. There were great herbs and spices used to really give it flavor since the potatoes are typically bland. if I had more time or was heading home from here I would have checked out the market more and taken more items home but now that's another excuse to make a trip specifically for Zaatar Factory!
