Second trip to Cafe Fili and first review. Nice, corner location at 2nd and G street NE. Easy access from Union Station and worth a walk over here. The trio sampler of hummus, baba ghanoush and red pepper hummus is a great way to start a meal. Be sure to request both soft pita and pita chips for variety. This trip was a lunch visit, so we stayed with salads; the Mediterranean for my guest and the Fatoosh (with chicken) for me. Both were very large, filling and fresh. Why have I not been here before? Cafe Fili is so outstanding when it comes to food and service. I went there today for brunch and was greeted by Chris who was very nice and wonderful. For food I tried the Goat Salad, forgot to take the picture because I was busy speaking to my guest and the salad was just amazing. I really appreciate Chris asking me about wanting Goat Cheese instead of Feta because that was unavailable. Small details like that matter and it is the people who work in these establishments who are the highlight of these place. Here's what's to love about Cafe Fili: 1) Food: It's good. Regardless of meal, each menu is filled with sandwiches, grain bowls, salads, and pastries. For breakfast, I ordered the briella, a type of croissant/muffin with Nutella. They warmed it for me. For lunch I had a chicken shwarma in a wrap. It was solid, but what blew me away was the small side salad it came with. It was perfectly crunchy and dressed with flavor. The dinner menu includes beer and wine. 2) Service: Every single staff member I met was friendly. 3) Space: It's designed beautifully, full of natural light. The cafe is to the right. Wonderful neighborhood location with a lovely patio and charming service. Enjoyed a Sunday brunch here the other day (and they only serve brunch on Sundays, so if you come on a Sunday, get brunch!) The ambiance was great, and the service was awesome. Our server was so kind, remembered everything, and all without writing it down because their handheld system was down - I was super impressed!! The food was good - super heavy, but delish! I got the lamb benedict (no lamb) because I didn't want the vegan option and they were able to make the lamb benedict vegetarian! Well, congratulations on a new frequent customer. I have this thing where I genuinely get upset when I discover a place I really like because I know that my wallet is going to suffer going forward and discovering this place made me feel that. Their falafel grain bowls are delicious and fulfilling. Service is also good. Atmosphere is nice. What a hidden little gem! My server Mike was super sweet and knowledgeable. I got the Tunisian salad, which comes with chicken but I also added sautéed lamb. Our first night in Washington DC and my wife felt like having a salad. We were walking in NOMA district and there are a few restaurant selections by us as this is a happening neighborhood. The restaurant is situated right next to apartment homes and I thought it was kinda interconnected to a hotel or something. My son got the lamb kafta kabob platter which came with vermicelli rice, couple of succulent lamb shaped balls, hummus, small salad and some pita chips. His dish was amazingly delicious and complete. I got the fatoosh salad and added gyro slice meat for $6 extra. I loved the salad itself and the lemony dressing topped it all off. I do have to admit the gyro slices were a bit dry. My wife got a Mediterranean lamb salad and hers too was really healthy and the presentation was amazing. For starter, we shared a black pepper French fries order which was just alright as we wished it was more crisper. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and the place has a nice vibe without making it too clubby. Our server, Chris, was top notch as well. Will recommend this place. read more

I might be an anomaly - check out the other reviews and judge for yourself. Many diners seem to frequent this restaurant in the evenings. My experiences are based upon breakfast, lunch, and late afternoon orders. The restaurant seems nice - it appears to be clean in the dining areas and the staff are sometimes courteous (the tall slim African guy is very nice to everyone while other staff ignore customers or select who they want to be courteous to). None of that compares or makes up for the bad food: in taste and after effects. I had five separate meals on different days and times and I got sick after eating each meal. The food did not taste good either: the meals were overly salty, the meats were dry and overcooked, the breakfast had a weird burnt taste like the grill was not cleaned, and the fries looked and tasted like stale fries refried. I liked the generous serving size (for the fries) but most of it was inedible. By the third order I should have stopped this dining experiment. I continued on principle to try to make a fair judgment and... I was just really confused on the number of customers given my experiences. Maybe they cook differently depending on the type of customer? I hope not. Maybe the drinks are really good - so much that food does not matter? Eh. ‍ If you try it, I hope you have much better experience than me and share your experience. read more

We've become regulars here. The staff is very friendly and the food is extremely flavorful. We are here at least four times a week for happy hour and the happy hour bites. The food is fresh and delicious. My favorite is the grilled shrimp in the phyllo dough bowl with salad and hummus. Just fantastic! And, I highly recommend the french fries. read more

My husband got the lamb platter, which was also yummy. The on draft seasonal cocktails were so tasty, andI loved the Lebanese beer I had. The service was even better than the food. Our waitress, Brie, I think was her name, was so patient with my two toddlers. She handled all of our requests to make the food more toddler-friendly (no za'atar on the fries or Aleppo chili on the chicken tenders). She brought them lemonade with sparkling water, and always asked what else we needed. She told us she only works Mondays and we were so shocked. Just went here for the first time based on someone else's recommendation and had an overall excellent dining experience. Very good Greek and Mediterranean selections of small plates to share as well as entrees. I consider it to be a good value compared to similar restaurants in DC: our bill was right around $100 for dinner for two that included a hummus app, salad entree, lamb kabob platter, plus alcohol and dessert. We took advantage of a cooler summer evening and sat outside on their front patio. Grabbed some hummus and homemade pita chips at the Baltimore Feastival yesterday and snacking on it this morning. All I can say is I can't wait to go back for more and to try more of their food. There were 3 different types, and I had the pesto hummus. I'm not a fan of store bought hummus and when you taste things like this it's easy to understand why...it just tastes so completely different. It was creamy, had a nice texture and is well seasoned. Can't have hummus without pita, these were perfectly thin and crispy. Looking forward to going back and trying the trio with both the soft pita as some reviewers have suggested. We stumbled across this place by accident. Big family group coming from all over and one person was jonesing for hummus. So we looked on Yelp. The food was absolutely delicious, the portions were large, and the drinks were yummy. The waitress was even kind enough to split the check for us by splitting the cost of the appetizers and then adding each persons entrees and drinks separately. I've eaten here several times pre Covid and during Covid. During this pandemic, takeout from here had been amazing-- the highlight of my Covid meals has been this amazing Chicken Shawarma takeout for only $12. (I think dine in prices are higher). It came with a small salad and a generously sized and stuffed shawarma. The pita was toasted to perfection, the take out container was perfectly packed, and the service is consistently super friendly and kind. Actually, their entire staff is great and is what makes this place even more special. They have patio seating available if you prefer dining there. If you've spent much time in Dearborn you know what good Lebanese and Levantine food is like: This place has some of the best Levantine food in DC. Have been here twice now and have been impressed both times! A really fresh restaurant with great drink prices and a wonderful Mediterranean menu. My sister and I came here about a week ago and ordered several small plates. We really loved the harissa and the Lebanese celebration. The squash was really delicious as well and the lamb sliders were excellent. The second time I came here, I ordered some drinks and the sweet potato papas bravas, which was a fantastic dish. Came for dinner, and the pita is not good!! It's thin and chewy when cools down. (See pita in photo). They have a second version that's crispy and tastes like a chip, which was slightly better, but still not good for dipping or soaking up the olive oil. The service is excellent. It was our 1st time, and the staff was super nice and very knowledgeable about the menu. The Lebanese celebration and beet root salad were delicious. Squash hummus was really unique and tasty. Great spot for mediterranean brunch! The service was great and I got the Chicken Grain Bowl which comes with a variety like grains, cauliflowers, turnip, salad, hummus, and the garlic yogurt. I really liked the cauliflower and the hummus had a good nutty flavor with creamy texture. The chicken had lots of flavor but it was a bit too salty for me and it didnt feel too special compared to other cheap halal places or even cava.
