After hearing my coworkers rave about this place opening I decided I'd try it out for lunch. They gave me a coupon that they'd received for a couple dollars off of a platter, so I decided to give this place a shot. The owner was incredibly friendly, shook my hand, and walked me through the menu, explaining what each item was and even offering a sample of his [great] sweet tea! I ended up ordering a gyro platter (came with salad, chips, and a soft drink - I chose the sweet tea), but when I pulled out my card the owner told me that they only took cash and that I could just pay tomorrow when I had some cash on me. Even better, he gave me back my coupon and told me to "keep using the coupon until it wears out... then I'll give you another one".This guy is awesome. Anyway, the gyro was great, and I've never had better customer service. I'll be back tomorrow to pay him back and order a few things so that my girlfriend can try this guy's food... it's that good. Moral of the story: the owner is cool, the food is good, and they just opened. You have no excuse not to eat here. read more

I am from a town with a large Greek population. Therefore I have had many a good gyros. I went to the interestingly named cafe flamingo international the other day and payed 7 bucks for a flimsy pita with two or three slices of meat. In my town you can get a gyro literally twice the size as here, with fries and a drink for a few dollars less than the cost of just this sandwich. That's all I'll be having here. I love falafel too, but when I asked about it the lady working she told me that they were prefried and that they just put it into a pita. It was 8 30 at the time and completely empty so who knows how old it was. A good falafel has to be freshly cooked in my opinion. One star cause I have to, and one for the character of the place and trying to be different. read more

I wanted to like this place. I really did. But the food was very average or below. The owner Alex was extremely hospitable as many people have stated. But my Greek salad with lamb was a travesty . It was basically a few little morsels of lamb dropped on top of some greens that look like they came from a box and some Kalamata olives and a few pieces of feta and a little drizzle of dressing and cost ten dollars. It really was not tasty. My dining companion had a gyro sandwich, And he liked it , but admitted there were at least two other places in town that made better gyros. We will not be back when we can have excellent middle eastern food at similar prices at other places in town. We may come in on the weekend where we can experience the live music and belly dancing, but wll likely eat elsewhere. read more

New to town and saw an ad in The Advocate. As a vegetarian, I really appreciate the many choices! The owner, Alex?, made me feel like a superstar on my lunch break the other day. Delicious food from a generous man. We stumbled across this place (the location seems to change hands frequently) and the pictures of luscious thick pita sandwiches drew us in. The owner is friendly and too generous! He obviously takes great pride in the food he serves. The baklava is some of the best we've tasted. The "Indian Cotton Candy" is a real treat. And the fresh sprigs of mint in the felafel 'sandwich' really hits it home. read more

This place and its menu and presentation need work, but we'll give it a try sometime again to see if he's worked out the kinks. I believe we landed there the first day they had their soft opening and the food was mediocre. Have to say the okra stew was pretty bland and awful. That dish needs lots and lots of attention. The tzatziki sauce needs to be pepped up, too, but we won't levy too much criticism until we go back again and try other things. The owner was enthusiastic and friendly, that's for sure, and he was very welcoming, which will bring us back for another try. Nice to have another Mediterranean/Middle Eastern place in town. Visiting from out of town, and I hopped in here for a chicken shawarma sandwich...Which was totally solid, and gone in like under 3 minutes: Fresh, soft, warm pita, chicken was juicy and tasty, veggies fresh and well-proportioned, and a bit of zippy sauce holding it together. SUCH A GREAT PLACE TO EAT!!! They have fantastic customer service (the owner will personally walk you through the menu and give you samples before trying things). They are so friendly and helpful there and the food is DELICIOUS! I have been hurting for a good place to get gyros here and I'm so happy that now we finally have one. My boyfriend and I (obviously) ordered the gyros here and they were delectable and reasonably priced. We were also given a sample of a new soup they were experimenting with which had some unique Egyptian spices in it-- so warm and yummy, like Middle Eastern soul food. We were also given a sample of their baklava. Good grief, I'm definitely going back for that one. It was sweet, light, crispy and had a mix of unique flavors. I read another review which commented that they don't accept credit cards. When I went in recently, I was able to pay with my debit, so they have that option now. I highly recommend! read more

I love Greek food, so I was excited to try this place. The proprietor was nice...a bit over-friendly, really. While awaiting my gyro, I had a better look around the restaurant. Grotty is the best word to describe it. The place looks like an auto mechanic's breakroom circa 1975, minus the nudie wall calendar. A few rugs on the floor seem to be both hiding and carrying untold nasty secrets. I was beginning to have second thoughts about eating anything from this establishment. When my gyro was presented, I almost laughed. Eight dollars he was asking for the thinnest, most pathetic looking gyro I've ever seen anywhere from here to Istanbul. For some reason, he cut one dollar off the price. To lure me back again, perhaps? Maybe he's not yet decided how much to charge. The menu and everything else about this place looks temporary, like it could disappear before the health inspector arrives. I paid the seven dollars and took my gyro to go. I almost threw it straight into the nearest garbage, but curiosity won over, so I unwrapped the gyro to have a look: A very mediocre looking pita, no dressing of any kind, a smattering of overly cooked and very dry meat, a bit of rapidly wilting lettuce, exactly two tiny slices of onion and three cubes of diced tomato. I'm not sure what you might call this anywhere else, but no self-respecting Greek would dignify this pathetic offering with the name gyro. And only a less risk-averse person than I would eat it. So, I'm sorry, nice man, but your food and atmosphere are off...way off. I don't see how Flame-N-Go, or is it Cafe Flamingo...even the name seems designed for a fly-by-night operation...survives in this town. It doesn't even belong in this decade. read more

We had a couple of amazing lamb gyros here, with perfectly cooked lamb and lots of quality ingredients packed in a nice soft pita! There is a great variety of middle eastern food offered here and the owner Alex is willing to make just about any dish from the region you want to try. Highly recommended read more
